DONALD SMITH

Donald S. Smith, 74, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born December 5, 1936 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Carl Columbus and Ardell Votaw Smith.

He worked as a roofer and attended Faith Baptist Church in Danville.

He is survived by a son, Donald “Tito” (Lisa) Smith of Harrodsburg, three granddaughters: Elizabeth Pierce, Heather Renee Smith and Amber Nona-Marie Smith, all of Harrodsburg; a step-grandson, Jeremy Butler of Ga. and five great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted Monday, July 18 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Barry Delaney officiating. Burial was in Patterson Cemetery in Dixville.

Pallbearers were: Nick Sanders, Ed McGinnis, Chris Pierce, Justin Followell, Robin Huffman and Wayne Collier.

SAMUEL STINE

Samuel Stine, 76, of Mallard Cove, husband of Verna Lou Adams Stine, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at his home.

Born June 27, 1935 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Orville and Anna Mae Ball Stine.

He was a retired pipe fitter, an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Burgin Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Pamela J. (Glenn) Bugg of Harrodsburg; a son, William A. (Janet) Price of Harrodsburg; a sister, Minnie L. (Alfred) Wilson; four grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; five great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifton, Wayne, and Ralph Stine, and two foster brothers, Howard Ball and Hugh Smith.

Services were held Sunday, July 17, at the Burgin Baptist Church with Carl McCray officiating. Burial was in the Burgin Memorial Garden.

Pallbearers were: Chris, Brandon and Greg Price, Mike and Terry Wilson and Rodney Stine.

ROBERT WILLIAMS II

Robert James Williams II, 49, of Fla., died Monday, July 4, 2011 at Hope Hospice House in Fort Myers, Fla.

Born Sept. 4, 1961 in Fort Myers, Fla. He was the son of Robert J. Williams Sr. and the late Phyllis Carr Williams.

He enjoyed spending many summers in Harrodsburg with his grandparents, the late Herbert and Martha Carr. He was an electrician by trade and enjoyed fishing and was an avid gemoloist. He was a member of the International Gemological Association and a member of the Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church in Fla.

In addition to his father, he is survived by Lori Williams; a son, Benjamin Carr (Kendra) Williams of Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister, Robin Moulton of Calif.; a grandson, Hayden Robert Williams of Fla.; a great-aunt, Louise Isham Dean of Harrodsburg and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Williams.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations are suggested to Hope Hospice of Fort Myers, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908 or your local veterans organization, in lieu of flowers.

JEWELL BARTLETT

Jewell “J. T.” Bartlett, 73, husband of Connie M. Bartlett of Nicholasville, died July 24, 2011 at Dawson Springs Rehabilitation in Dawson Springs.

Born September 27, 1937 in Owensboro, he was the son of the late Byron and Viola Bartlett. He loved God, his family, his cat, Peggy Sue and UK basketball. He went to all home games, prior to his sickness.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters: Paula D. Bartlett of Nicholasville, Ruth G. (Tom) Rosa of Palm Springs, Calif., Sherry (Bob) McIntyre of Reed, Tonna (Bobby) Cline of Owensboro, Sharon (Derrick) Lovell of Greenville; two brothers, Larry (Anna) Bartlett and Wayne (Rosemary) Bartlett, both of Pleasant Ridge; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Services will be held at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home today, Thursday, July 28 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Matthew Cole officiating with burial in the Springhill Cemetery.

Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. July 27 at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

Contributions are suggested to the American Heart Assoc., or the Jessamine Co. Humane Society.

ALBERT CASE

Albert Eugene “Gene” Case, 60, of Nicholasville, husband of Dorothy Mae Wheeler Case died Monday, July 25, 2011 at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington.

Born May 2, 1951 in Staunton, Va., he was the son of the late J.C. and Sue Virginia Thompson Case.

He was an Army veteran, a custodian and a lifetime member of the Kentucky VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed playing pool and country and bluegrass music.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David Case of Connersville, Ind.; two daughters, Regina Dennis and Tonya Parker, both of Connersville, Ind.; a stepson, Steve Gorman of Lexington; a stepdaughter, Tammy Gorman of Nicholasville; three sisters: Joeann LeMaster of Wellington, Kan., Helen Neeley of Berea and Janet Sommers of Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren and a stepgrandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Jerry Case.

Services will be conducted 10 a.m., Friday, July 29 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Nicholasville, with Jason Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be today, Thursday, July 28, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Friday at the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

HAZEL MAPLES

Hazel Wyatt Maples, 93 of Harrodsburg, widow of William Everrett Maples, died Sunday, July 24, 2011.

Born June 9, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Bennett and Ollie Qualls Wyatt.

She was a charter member of Stanford First Church of God.

She is survived by three sons: Ronald (Ruby) Maples of Lancaster, Lonnie (Wilma) Maples and Bobby (Rosemary) Maples, both of Stanford; four daughters: Deanna (Richard) Kuehl, Vivian Coleman, Gayle (Thomas) Breeding and Paula Maples, all of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Thelma Gorley and Shirley Coleman; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and two special friends, Lou Bugg and Ron Grote.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson.

Services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 at Stanford First Church of God. Dr. Harold Harness and Rev. Bud Bastin officiated. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Scott, Ronnie and Kevin Maples, Rick Jenkins, Chris Wadell, Jeff Coleman and Whitney Dienger.

Honorary Pallbearers: were Stacy Crain, Lisa and Tracy Kuehl, Adrian and Micah Wadell, Toby and Jeremy Maples, Donna Horner and Veda Ray.

CHARLES MCGINNIS

Charles Frank McGinnis, 74, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born January 25, 1937 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Perry Oliver and Fannie Bell (Watts) McGinnis.

He was an all around handyman.

Survivors include two brothers, Joe McGinnis and Perry McGinnis Jr., both of Harrodsburg.

Services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at the Spring Hill Cemetery by Larry Molnar.

JAMES MCKNIGHT

James Arthur McKnight 60 husband of Rosa “Rose” Ramsey McKnight of Waco, KY died Tuesday July 19, 2011 at Hospice Care Center Richmond.

He was born Oct. 21, 1950 in Hamilton, Ohio.

A graduate of Kentucky College of Business and a finish carpenter. Jim was a singer and musician with “The Bybee Travlers” gospel group. A member of Bybee United Methodist Church and attended New Vision Pentecostal Church, and a board member of Madison County Right To Life.

Additional survivors include: his mother, Freda Stevens Abbott of Hamilton, Ohio; one son, Daniel McKnight of Richmond; one step son, Charles “Chuck” Todd of Radcliff; one daughter, Rebecca “Beckey” McKnight of Richmond; one step daughter, Pamela “Pam” Todd of Waco; one brother, Dennis (Moncia) McKnight of Ohio; one sister, Alma (Thirlon) Jackson of Ohio; two grandchildren Elizabeth “Beth” McIntosh and Kimberly “Kimmie” Todd and one great-grand child Landon Denny.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 23, at the Bybee United Methodist Church, Hwy 52, Waco, with Revs. Yancy Adamson, Lynn Young, Arthur Ray, Rickie Winkler and Aleen Coon.

Active pallbearers were Jamie Wallings, Glenn Richardson, Michael Carman, Elbert Jones, Jonathan Denny and Dennis McKnight.

Honorary bearers were David Tapley, Charles Todd, Buz Ramsey, Thirlon Jackson, Rev. Seldon Short, David Hume and board members of Madison County Right To Life.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Care Center Richmond, Bybee United Methodist Church or New Visions Pentecostal Church.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FLOSSIE RENNER

Flossie Currens Renner, 83, of Harrodsburg, wife of Marvin Dean “Jim” Renner, died Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the St. Joseph Hospital East in Lexington.

Born December 14, 1927 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late James and Beulah Merryman Currens.

She was a retired seamstress from Cricketeer and was owner and operator of Spots For Tots Day Care for 30 years. She was a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sisters Gladys Lewis and Louise (William) Smock; three brothers: Jimmy (Margaret) Currens, Eldorse (Doris) Currens, both of Harrodsburg and Lee (Shirley) Currens of S.C.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Carr and three brothers, John, Louis and Jake Currens.

Services were conducted Tuesday, July 26 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Morris Trayner officiated. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Levi Smock, David Smock, Terry Currens, Jeff Currens, Lee Currens Jr. and Tommy Currens.

Honorary bearers were: Keith Currens, Lennie Currens, Kevin Currens, Todd Currens, Kelly Currens, Johnny Currens and Bobby Lewis.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Joseph Hospital East, Richmond Rd., Lexington, KY.

ROBERT SHETRONE

Robert Allen Sargent-Shetrone, of Versailles, infant son of Amanda Sargent and John R. Shetrone died Sunday , July 24, 2011.

Survivors, other than his parents, include: his maternal grandmother, Thersa Lancaster, of Harrodsburg; maternal grandfather, Loren (Linda)Lancaster of Versailles; paternal grandmother, Patricia Brumback of Lawrenceburg; paternal grandfather, Carl Shetrone of Frankfort; and paternal great grandparents, Rev. Gilbert and Ann Sargent of Versailles.

Services were held Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Clark Funeral Home-Rose Hill with Rev. Gilbert Sargent officiating.

Interment followed in Rose Crest Cemetery.
