ELIZABETH BACON

Elizabeth “Tracy” Bacon, 77, of Danville, wife of Don Bacon, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 28, 1934 in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late I. G. and Mildred Robertson Smith.

She was a retired medical technician at Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters: Terry Whittaker of Iowa, Windy Maxwell of Danville and Robin Bennett of Wash.; a son, Robbie (Linda) Tucker of Ohio; a sister, Ruth (Bob) Rogers of Danville and ten grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Andy Tucker and a brother, Fred Smith.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 10 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Terry Morrison officiating.

DORA CARTER

Dora Carter, 89, of Harrodsburg, widow of the late J. T. Carter, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at the Harrodsburg Healthcare Center.

Born May 16, 1922 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Johnson and Minnie Randolph Johnson.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing Bingo, working puzzle books and reading her greeting cards. She was also a member of the Red Hatters Club.

She is survived by a step-daughter, Judy Carter Coulter of Willisburg; a brother-in-law, Buddy Steele; three sisters-in-law: Martha Steele, Ruby Raley and Arlene Medley, all of Harrodsburg; two step-grandsons and a cousin.

Services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Don Turner, Darrell Agee, Buddy Steele, Darrell Catlett, William Rogers and John Trisler.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, 312 South Main Street, Harrodsburg, Kentucky 40330.

RUBY CHAMBERS

Ruby Belle Watts Chambers, 87, widow of William Chambers, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011 at The James B. Haggin Extended Care Facility.

Born April 13, 1924 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Stella Maddox Watts.

She was a homemaker and former baby sitter. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Boyle County.

She is survived by a step-daughter, Pearl Chambers of Harrodsburg; two step-sons, David James of Louisville and Donnie James of Clarksville, Ind.; two brothers, Raymond Watts of Harrodsburg and Kenneth Watts of Georgetown; two sisters, Mary Baker and Beverly Griffith, both of Harrodsburg; seven step-grandchildren, one step-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Nellie Watts; a step-son, Jimmy James; two brothers, Iva and Ronnie Watts and five sisters: Sue Watts, Juanita Byrd, Georgia Mae Weldon, Thelma Stevens, and Viola Baker.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Derek Baker and Dr. James McCarroll officiating. Burial was in New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Bill Baker, Art Baker, Charlie Baker, Maurice Baker, Harold Baker and Cleo Baker.

MALLORY GOGGANS

Mallory Lauren Edmiston Goggans, 25, of Danville, died August 7, 2011 at the UK Medical Center following an illness.

Born August 1, 1986 in Danville she is the daughter of Billie Debie Wise and Roy Edmiston, both of Danville.

Mallory was a graduate of Ft. Logan High School and was a student in the RN Nursing program at Spencerian College and on the Dean’s List. Her illness, Pulmonary Hypertension, interrupted her studies but she always wanted to be a nurse to help others. Mallory was a free spirit. She loved life and took it a day at a time, a rambler, she loved music and to dance. She was a dedicated mother and a wonderful wife and friend.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by: her husband, Joseph Goggans; a daughter, Aurelia Rose “Aurie” Goggans, Danville; a brother, Dustin Garrett (Erica) Goggans; sons, Tyson and Felix, Harrodsburg; her grandparents, Rose Edmiston and Chris and Bill Wise; her mother and father-in-law, Lori and Mark Goggans; her grandparents-in-law, Delores and J. T. Goggans, all of Danville; her brother-in-law, Stephen M. (Brandi) Goggans, Mt. Washington; and her aunts, Betty Edmiston (Joe David) O’Daniel, Lebanon, Rosemary Edmiston (Jimmy) Akin, Louisville, Linda Wise (Jon) Sandberg, Stoneybrooke, NY, and Penny Wise (Peter) Germanis, Fairfax, Virginia.

She was predeceased by her grandfather, Roy Edmiston and an aunt, Beverly Stouffer.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 13, at the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. Rev. Tommy Valentine and Rev. Quentin Scholtz will officiate. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Goggans, Mark Goggans, Roy Edmiston, Dustin Edmiston, Stephen Goggans and Kevin Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jennifer Donselman. Visitation will be after 4 p.m., Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.

RONNIE HUGHES

Ronnie Lee Hughes, 65, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2011.

Born in Lexington, he was the son of the late John Harlen Hughes and Emma Easter Woods.

Survivors include: his stepfather, Howard Woods Sr., Lexington; three children, Stephanie (James) Manley, South Carolina, Ronnie Hughes Jr., Winchester, and Kevin (Holly) Hughes, Winchester; four brothers, John (Carolyn) Hughes, Lexington, Harold (Barbara) Hughes, Berea, Howard (Nancy) Woods Jr., Winchester, and Michael (Judy) Woods, Harrodsburg; three sisters, Sophia (Gordon) Pickett, F, Charlene (Harvey) Watkins, Winchester, and Inez (Thomas) Hines, Paris; and six grandchildren; Joshua Hughes, Wade Hughes, Faith Hughes, Brittany Manley, James Robert Manley, and Thomas Hughes.

Services were held Friday, August 5, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Main Street, Lexington. Burial followed at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

WILLIE PENIX

Willie B. Penix, 84, of Burgin, widow of George W. Penix, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011 at the Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation after a long illness.

Born Feb. 15, 1927 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Georgie Johnson Doneghy.

She was a graduate of West Side High School in Harrodsburg, a self-employed domestic worker, a former member of the St. Andrew AME Church in Burgin and a current member of the St. Peter AME Church in Harrodsburg. She was also a member of Harrod Homemakers, Loyal Benevolent Society at Robinson Roe, KY Club of Danville, Order of Eastern Star Celestine Chapter #9 in Danville, Steward Board and the L.B. Morton Missionary Society.

She is survived by four sons: Charles W. (John Etta) Penix of Danville, William H. (Tricia) Penix of Harrodsburg, Michael A. (Janie) Penix of Richmond and George Lee (Mary) Penix of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Ann (Steve) Garvin of Louisville and Vicki Penix of Burgin; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, George Penix Jr.; a brother, Raymond Hollie and a sister, Florence Doneghy.

Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 9 at the St. Peter AME Church with Bro. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial was in Robinson Roe Cemetery in Burgin.

Eastern Star Services were conducted Monday, Aug. 8 at the church.

Pallbearers were: Charles Marzell Penix, Charles Anthony Penix, William H. Penix, Michael McPherson, Jim Baxter, Michael Baxter and Tom VanArsdall.

Honorary bearers were: C. L. Bartleson, James Dunn, Larry Gayton, Alvin White and Jim Pittman.

RANDY BUSSELL

Randy Lee Bussell, 53, of Harrodsburg, husband of Ginger Trisler Bussell, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 11, 1958 in Lexington, he was the son of Eva Thompson Bussell of Lexington and the late Henry H. Bussell. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and the Kentucky Native American Counsel.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Joe Bussell, Beau Taylor Claunch, Lucas Matthew Claunch and James Ethan Claunch; two sisters, Patricia Semones of Burgin and Mary Kanatzar of Lexington and a brother, Henry Bussell Jr. of Beaver Lake.

He was preceded in death by a son, Sean Michael Claunch.

Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 17 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

SNIDER DEAN

Snider A. Dean, 74, of Harrodsburg died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec 18, 1936, he was the son of the late Robert and Myrtle Blacketer Dean. He was a retired press operator at Corning Glass. He loved animals, country music, auctions, collectibles and antiques.

He is survived by two sons, Donald Dean of Knoxville, Pa. and Larry (Sue) Dean of Willisburg; two daughters, Sherri Dean Ritchie of Coral Springs, Fla. and Gina Dean of Tenn.; a sister, Blondie Dean of Louisville; a brother, Bill (Betty) Dean of Springfield; nine grandchildren; ten great-grand children and a special friend, Violet Russell.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Billy Dean, Craig Dean, Matthew Dean, Larry Dean, Tyler Dean and Todd Cheatham.

Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

MICHAEL FISHER

Michael Reuben Fisher, 64, of Danville, died Monday, August 15, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born August 26, 1946 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Emery Bonapart and Lola Moore Fisher.

Mike was retired from the Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife. He was a 1964 graduate of Lafayette High School and a 1968 graduate of the University of Kentucky where he was a UK Cheerleader. Mike had been a member of the Kentucky National Guard and was a volunteer Fireman with Boyle County Engine # 1; Boyle County EMS, National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association. A Kentucky Colonel and a Republican, Mike loved hunting, fishing, his computer and UK basketball.

He is survived by: his wife, Debra Goggin Fisher; a daughter, Heather Cocanougher (David) Prather of Perryville; a brother, Don (Pat) Fisher of Lexington, two grandchildren, Joseph Muth and Megan Prather and his in-laws, Billy and Billie Lou Goggin.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m., Friday at The Presbyterian Church. Bro. J.O. Burkhead and Rev. Jim Stewart will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, Boyle Co. EMS, and Boyle Co. Engine #1.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Stith Funeral Home.

Memorial donations are suggested to the National Wild Turkey Federation or the wildlife conservation organization of your choice.

ALLEN GLASSCOCK

Allen Stewart Glasscock, 84 of Perryville died Sunday, August 14, 2011 in Perryville. He was the husband of Wilma Best Glasscock.

Born April 20, 1927 in Marion County, he was a son of the late Chafe and Nancy Cleo Stewart Glasscock.

Stewart was a retired shipping supervisor for American Greeting Corporation, and a Marine Veteran serving during World War ll. He attended Perryville Baptist Church, was a charter member of the Battlefield American Legion Post #301, and an avid Dallas Cowboys Fan. Stewart loved farming and simply just watching the cattle graze. In his younger years he loved boating and water skiing. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida at least twice a year.

In addition to his wife Wilma, he is survived by: two daughters and their husbands, Lynn (Bobby) Purdom of Lexington, Sharon (Richard) Jones of Harrodsburg; one son, Jeffrey Allen (Sherry( Glasscock of Perryville. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Brett Jones, Giles and Reed Glasscock and Lindsley Purdom.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Helm and Louise Lannum.

Funeral services were held Wednesday August 17, 2011 at the Wilder Funeral Home by Rev. Doug Davis with burial in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Giles and Reed Glasscock, Brett Jones, Lindsley Purdom, Mike Harmon, Larry Lannum and Ritchie Zaeh.

Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Daugherty, Marion White, Bobby Joe Ellis, David Lannum and Bruce Helm.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Perryville Baptist Church Building fund and Heritage Hospice.
