SHARON JOHNSON

Sharon Johnson, 59, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011.

She was born in Annville on Nov. 29, 1951. She graduated high school at Annville Institute in 1969, received her bachelors at Hope College in Holland, Mich., received her Master of Science in social work at the University of Louisville, and was employed as a mental health specialist in several settings. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She is survived by her mother, Lenora June Hurley; brothers, Eric (Bonnie) Johnson and Darryl (Brenda) Johnson, both of London, Mark (Beth) Hurley of Waddy, Kevin (Rosa) Hurley of Harrodsburg, Kent Hurley of Lexington, and Glenn (Mary Beth) Hurley of Frankfort; sisters Kathy (David) Hadley of Harrodsburg, Rose (Mike) Miller of Williamsburg, Va, Lisa (John) Erwin and Amy (Robbie) Prather, both of Frankfort, and Elaine (Jim) Lamb of Lexington and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Johnson, Jr, step father, Leonard Hurley and her brother, Dale Hurley.

Private funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society.

OMEGA PITTMAN

Omega Ruth Pittman, 90, of Harrodsburg, wife of Jimmy Bruce Pittman, died Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care, Harrodsburg.

Born March 26, 1921 in Lawrenceburg, she was the daughter of the late Goldey and America Childers West.

She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God.

Survivors include: her husband, Jimmy Bruce Pittman; one daughter, Barbara Howard of UT; one sister, Mildred Belcher of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, Ruth (Jay) Willis, Pam Cully, Ronda Richardson, David (Missy) Tharpe and Randall (Shirley) Richardson; eight great –grandchildren, Ashley (Drew) Hammond, Emily Richardson, Meaghan Richardson, Kelly Cully, Phillip Pittman, Mike (Leah) Caudill, Rocky (Jessica) South and Travis Richardson; six great-great-grandchildren, Kelei Pittman, Summer and Autumn South, Addie Hammond, Payton Hammond and Jacob Caudill; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Edith Bristo, a son, Raymond Howard, two sisters, Louise Hicks and Alpha Haache and a granddaughter, Rhonda Tharpe.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 24 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Donnie Irvin. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Pittman, Rocky South, J.W. Willis, David Tharpe, Drew Hammond and Terry Darland.

LAVONE POYNTER

Lavone Whitis Poynter, 80, of Eubank, Kentucky, gently passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Somerset Nursing & Rehab.

She was born in Eubank, Kentucky on February 22, 1931, daughter of the late Menifee and Lillie Mae Harper Whitis.

She was a farmer, homemaker and a devoted and loving mother to her children. She was a member of Eden Baptist Church.

She is survived by: three sons, Marion & (Donna) Poynter, Lee Poynter and Dale & (Gidget) Poynter, all of Eubank; four daughters, Shirley (Junior) Roberts of Eubank, Hazel (Wendell) Goff of Williamsburg, Kathy Sue Lovely and Kay Poynter, both of Eubank; four brothers, Everett Lee Whitis of Nancy, Ellis Whitis of Stanford, Wayne Whitis of Eubank and Jr. "Junie" Alvin Whitis of Harrodsburg; four sisters, Jessie Poynter of Harrodsburg, Evelene Phelps of Danville, JoAnn New of Burnside and Betty Lou Weatherford of Shopville, 13 grandchildren, three special grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, extended family and friends at Somerset Nursing & Rehab and Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Bruce Poynter, who died on June 8, 2003, her parents, four brothers, Raymond Fee Whitis, Audie Whitis, Emmitt Whitis and Bruce Whitis and one sister, Gertrude "Gertie" Sims.

A funeral service was held Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill with Bro. Delmer Whitter officiating. Burial was in Eden Cemetery.

Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

RONALD PROFITT

Ronald L. Profitt, 58, of Junction City, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born March 23, 1953 in Jenkins, he was the son of the late Carl Lee and Mantie Adams Profitt. He was a member of Cornerstone Community Church in Salvisa and was a retired Digital Technician with Bellsouth. He was a lifetime member of the Communications Workers of America.

He is survived by his son, R. Travis (Kay) Profitt of Salvisa; his companion, Reva Edwards of Junction City; two brothers, Carl (Glenda) Profitt of Texas and Tim (Susie) Profitt of Arizona; a sister, Marieda (John) Allen of Lexington, and four grandchildren.

A celebration of life service was held Sunday, Aug. 21 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Casey Taylor officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were Chris Edwards, Mike Edwards, Dennis Brooks, Alvin Snipes and Mike Egbert.

ROSE TURNER

Rose Etta Turner, 72, widow of Jerry Turner, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 28, 1939 in Bethel, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John H. Hurst and Bessie Lucille Pulliam Hurst. She was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Denise Coffman of Harrodsburg and Sherry Diane Kelley of Versailles and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Darrell Eugene Turner.

Services were conducted Monday, Aug. 22 at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Rev. Noel F. Zamora officiating. Burial was in Parksville Cemetery. Grandchildren served as pallbearers.

BETTY WAMPLER

Betty Lyons Wampler, 71, widow of James David Wampler, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 8, 1939 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late J.B. and Martha Colvin Lyons. She was retired from the Mercer County Health Department, a member of the Southland Christian Church, and had recently been attending Carpenter’s Christian Church.

Survivors include one son Eric (Holly) Wampler of Lawrenceburg; two daughters, Beth (Doug) Vandivier of Mercer County and Jean (Doug) Curry of Floyds Knobs, Ind.; two sisters, Carolla Cocanougher of Lexington and Mary Lou Zody of Louisville; eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Aug, 24 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Doug Vandivier officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Doug Curry, Daniel

Pallbearers were Doug Curry, Daniel Crowell, Zane Wampler, Luke Curry, Jarred Vandivier, Gene Cocanougher, Mark Zody and Mike Zody.

OMEGA PITTMAN

Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Donnie Irvin. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers were: Phillip Pittman, Rocky South, J. W. Willis David Tharpe, Drew Hammond and Terry Darland.

Visitation was Wednesday, August 24 from 11-2.

GEORGE ABSTON

George Allen Abston, age 53, of Mackville, passed away at 5:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at his home.

He was born on April 13, 1958, in Barren County to the late Walter Huston and Ruby Spralding Abston.

He was a 1977 graduate of Washington County High School and was a farmer.

Survivors include two sisters, Patty Pinkston and her husband, Jerry of Springfield, and JoAnn (Tommy) Buckner of Greensburg; four brothers, John (Polly) Abston of Greensburg, Donald Abston of Bradfordsville, Robert Abston of Mackville and Glenn (Geneva) Abston of Lebanon.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 27, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Knecht, minister of the Mackville Church Of Christ, officiating. Burial was in Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

Serving as honorary pallbearer was Jim Powell.

Serving as casket bearers were Jerry Pinkston, Roger Wohner, Daniel Abston, Jeremy Pinkston, Dalton Pinkston and Lonnie Edwards.

Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

KIMBERLY ADER

Kimberly J. Ader, 49, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Vanceburg.

Born July 26, 1962 in Louisville, she was the daughter of Jane M. Corman Ader of Harrodsburg and the late Lawrence L. Ader. She was a former C.N.A., a graduate of Homewood High School in Homewood, Ala. where she was a member of the Homewood High School Marching Band and participated in the Macy’s Parade, the Mardis Gras Parade and the Alabama Governor’s Inauguration Parade. She was a baptist by faith. She attended the Louisville School of Art and enjoyed dance and playing the piano and flute.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Jennifer B. (Patrick) Coslow of Harrodsburg; a son, William J. (Jessica) Gernert IV; a brother, Steven (Donna) Ader of Crestwood; two sisters: Karen (Robert) Berry of Prattville, Ala. and Erica (Jim) Floyd of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Hilary Claypool officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Patrick Gernert, Barry Gernert, Brian Bailey, Benjamin Ader, Robert Berry and Patrick Coslow. Honorary pallbearers are: Paul Collier, Johnnie Carr and James Corman.

Visitation is today, Thursday, Sept. 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. and after 7 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

PAMELA BECKLEY

Pamela Ann Sheffer Beckley, 64, died Thursday, August 25, 2011 at her residence. She was born October 22, 1946 in Henderson, KY daughter of the late Wayne Samuel and Jimmie Nell Carden Sheffer and was preceded in death by a brother Dennis Wayne Shefford.

Mrs. Beckley was a retired employee of Kentucky State Government having worked in Human Resources, Environmental, and Transportation Cabinets. She received a B.S. Degree in Zoology from the University of Kentucky, a member of the Salvisa Christian Church and a member of Wolf Park. Her talents included oil painting.

She is survived by: her husband of 41 years, Paul Lee Beckley; one son, Paul Marshall Beckley; one daughter, Gwyndolyn Kerry Beckley’ and one grandson, Nathan Lee Eastburn, all of Lawrenceburg.

Funeral Mass was conducted Saturday, August 27, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Fr. Chris Clay officiated.

Memorials are suggested to the Nathan Lee Eastburn Fund in memory of his grandmother, Pamela Ann Beckley.

Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home, Lawrenceburg, was in charge of arrangements.

JUANITA COOK

Juanita Jean Goforth Cook, 77, widow of Jack Samuel Cook Sr., died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Born Sept. 20, 1933 in Jessamine County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Wesley and Pauline Jones Goforth. She was a retired Oncology R.N. having worked at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville and The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg. She earned her associates degree from Lexington Technical Institute, bachelors degree from the University of Texas-Galveston and masters degree in Public Health Administration from Eastern Kentucky University. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Boyle County and enjoyed teaching for six years at BCTC in Anderson County.

She is survived by a son, James Hershel Lathery of Lexington; two daughters: Pauletta Best of Lexington and April Finch of Albuquerque, N.M.; a stepson, Jack Cook Jr. of Fulton, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Wendy Michelle Cook of Fulton, Mo.; three sisters: Edna Smith of Dayton, Ohio, Ruby Tackett and Brenda Reed, both of Harrodsburg; four grandchildren; a great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Goforth; a sister, Margaret Taylor and a grandson, Jacob Lathery.

Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 30 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Arvid Tackett, Eddie Reed, Wallace Taylor, Randy Tackett, Danny Smith, Bill McCullah and Zachary Finch.
