CORDELIA MILLER

Cordelia “Cordie” Reed Virgin Miller, 83, of Greenup, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 at her residence.

Born May 24, 1928 in Cornishville, she was the daughter of the late John and Lottie Warner Reed. She was a member of the Three Mile Christian Baptist Church where she was the church pianist and the women’s Sunday school teacher for years.

She is survived by three sons: Greg (Roberta) Virgin of Wurtland, Dennis (Lydia) Virgin of Wurtland and John (Karen) Virgin of Greenup; a daughter, Joanna (Ronnie) Fyffe of Lexington; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Paul Ed Virgin and Joseph Miller; a daughter Rita Gay Virgin; a brother, Roy Reed and a sister, Carolene VanDiver.

Services were held Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011 at the Three Mile Christian Baptist Church with Brothers Donnie Smith and Eugene Wilburn officiating.

Burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 2330 Pollard Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

LOREN TERHUNE

Loren Thomas “Terry” Terhune, 77, husband of Scottye J. Terhune, of Lexington, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2011.

A native of Harrodsburg, he was a son of the late Claude and Laura Isham Terhune. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and a retired Systems Engineer for IBM. He was an active member of Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, his Bible study group and the ROMEOs. He enjoyed spending time at the lake, listening to music and maintaining his home and lake house.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Lori (John) McIntosh, Jeff (Marty) Terhune, Greg (Bo) Terhune, Leah Terhune, Jon (Katie) Terhune and Judi (Mike) Zernickow; a sister, Anne (Marshall) Freeman; a sister-in-law, Ruby Terhune; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

A funeral Mass was held at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Lexington, Friday, Sept. 9 with Reverends Dan Noll and Robert Nieberding officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

WILLIAM WESTERFIELD JR.

William Sheridan Westerfield Jr., 90, of Danville, died Friday, September 9, 2011.

Born March 19, 1921 to the late William Sheridan and Ilga Waggoner Westerfield.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sherron Westerfield of Danville; three sons, Thomas Logan Westerfield of Seminole, Fl. and William Hankla Westerfield of Lexington and Brent Martin Westerfield of Richmond, TX.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Sheridan Westerfield. Private graveside services and burial were held Tuesday, September 13, at Paris Cemetery

Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington is in charge of arrangements.

KENNETH WILLIAMS

Kenneth Dale Williams, 55, husband of Ruby White Williams, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 at his residence.

Born Dec. 7, 1955 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Walter Carrol and Marjorie Grubbs Williams. He was a former employee of Hitachi, a member of the Battle Baptist Church, an E.M.T. and Volunteer Fire Fighter with Dixville Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kenneth Michael Williams of Harrodsburg; two daughters: Kim (Chris) Caldwell of Stanford and Kelly (Jason) Myers of Danville; four brothers: Carroll, Jimmy and Mark Williams, all of Harrodsburg and Stevie Williams of Burgin; five sisters: Becky Williams, Denise Bradford, Phyllis Williams and Rita Elliott, all of Harrodsburg and Lisa Garrison of Georgetown; a half sister, Rose Bea Anderson of Harrodsburg, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Williams; a half brother, Colon Williams and a sister, Judy Gayle Williams.

Services were held Monday, Sept. 12, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Hale and Bro. Mark Williams officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were: Eric Releford, Anthony Dennis, Shane Abrams, Tony Harmon, Foster Elliott, Justin Williams, Lee Williams and Blake Bandy.

Honorary pallbearers were: Lee Prather, Johnny Drury, Jeff Bradley, Joe Travilian, Devin Caldwell, George Barnes, Cody Mink and Dustin Williams.

LOU BARNETT

Lou Will Satterly Barnett, age 90, Harrodsburg, widow of Jessie Burnice Barnett, joined her precious Lord in Heaven on Friday, September 16, 2011.

Born October 18, 1920 in Willisburg, she was the daughter of the late W. O. and Lora Dennis Satterly. She retired after thirty years as an educator. She was also a life-long member of Bethel Baptist Church where she had been a Young Couples Sunday School Teacher, choir member, Training Union Leader, Bible School Teacher and WMU leader. She was also a member of the Mercer County Retired Teachers' Association and a lifetime member of the Kentucky Extension Homemakers.

To cherish her memory, she leaves two daughters: Pamela (David) Mobley of Harrodsburg, and Loralee (Pat) Coe of Shelbyville; two sons: Willis Garvin "Garvey" Barnett of Willisburg, and Kirtley "Kirt" (Lisa) Barnett of Harrodsburg, grandchildren: "Willis" Kendall (Julie Denise) Barnett; "Casee Keeler (Tonya) Barnett; "Jerrod" (Stefanie) Elam; Callee "Cal" (Sarah) Elam; "Tara" (Brian) Andre'; Alicia "Jordon" (Kris) Klein; "Jessika" Coe; great grandchildren: "Zhane" Patrick Elam; William Jessie Lee "Will" Elam; Camden Kristopher Klein; "Casey" Alexandra Galbreath; Ashley "Cheyenne" Elam; Kendall Denise Barnett; Mahala Rene' Andre'; Mattie Liberty Andre'; Cailee Wynne Klein. She is preceded in death by a grandson, "Jessie" Burnice Barnett, a sister, Ottie Hayes, brothers, Otto (Sallie), W,G, (Leila), and J.B., and Denny Satterly, brothers-in-law, Willis, O'Rear, and Homer (Nila) Barnett, Marvin Yates, Raymond Roster, sisters-in-law, Vivian (Marvin) Anderson, Eula (Pat) Patmore, and three nephews and two nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 PM, Monday, September 19 at the Bethel Baptist Church, Brad King and Lester Tirey officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 18 from 6-9 pm at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel and after 10 am Monday at the Church.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Gideon Memorial Bible Fund or Heritage Hospice.

BERTHA BOWMAN

Bertha Mae Bowman, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the age of 87.

She was born on February 4, 1924 to the union of Dan King and Sue Poe Bowman in Mercer County, Kentucky, the oldest of three children.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church in Burgin, Kentucky. She received her education at Bate School where she graduated in 1942 as valedictorian of her class. She continued her education by receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Kentucky State University and Master’s Degree from University of Kentucky both in Business.

Bertha taught at Bate School until integration. She was one of three black teachers to go to the fully integrated Danville High School. She retired after teaching in the Danville School system for 38 years.

She loved her family and for many years was the family historian at family reunions. She also loved entertaining, shopping for clothes, and traveling. Bertha was a member of the Flamingo Girls Social Club, Kentucky State University Alumni and Doric Benevolent Lodge Society #3 of East Burgin.

Bertha is survived by one sister, Beatrice Bowman Penman, Danville, Kentucky; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jack Bowman.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 17, at the Little Zion Baptist Church in Burgin.

Smith-Jackson Funeral Home in Danville was in charge of arrangements.

HAROLD BOYD

Harold Cline Boyd, 71, of Danville died Tuesday, September 13, 2011.

Born March 11, 1940 in Boyle County, he was the son the late John D. and Minnie Brummett Boyd.

He was an independent sales representative in farm machinery. He served in the U.S. Navy and was veteran of Vietnam. Harold was a Pentecostal and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by: his wife, Barbara Stephenson Boyd, three sons, Victor C. (Patricia) Boyd of Salvisa, Mark A. Boyd of Lexington, Matthew Lentry of Lexington; two daughters, Angela (Greg) Franklin of Casey County and Amanda Boyd (Sean) Bishop of Nicholasville; one brother, J. W. (Lillian) Boyd of Charleston, SC; a step-brother, Eugene (Carol) Wilson; and six grandchildren, Tristan Boyd, Justin Boyd, Morgan Boyd, Brittani Davis, Brooklin Franklin and Jackson Bishop; and four great-grandchildren, Ayden Davis, Dashay Davis, Bryson Martin and Cameron Boyd.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Janie Vandergriff, Geneva Travillian and Wanda June Boyd.

A funeral service was held Friday, September 16, at the Stith Funeral Home. Rev. Floying Thompson officiated. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gardner Travillian, Phillip Bradshaw, Terry Young, Harold Keith Young and Timmy Young.

The family suggests donations to Heritage Hospice.

JOYCE CASEY

Joyce Arnold Casey, 80, of Perryville, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, in Lexington. She was the widow of Robert H. Casey Jr.

Born Sept. 26, 1930, in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Walden and Mary Logue Arnold. Joyce was a retired employee of Cricketeer in Harrodsburg. She was a member of Perryville Baptist Church where she was church secretary for many years.

Joyce was an avid University of Kentucky sports fan. Some years back during March Madness, when Kentucky was playing, Joyce, her family and a few friends enjoyed getting together for potluck and cheering on the Cats. Joyce looked forward to Red Hats every month and spending time with her fellow Red Hat friends. She loved playing Rook, and in recent years she has been playing with a group at the Boyle County Senior Citizens Center.

The Senior Citizen Center, the staff and members of the center were a big part of her life. Joyce also enjoyed having and going to yard sales. She had been a very active member of the Perryville Battlefield Unit 301, American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include: two daughters, Brenda (Robby) Mayes of Perryville and Cissy Sandford of Lexington; three grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Mayes, Matthew Mayes and Ashley (Jerry) Menfee; and three great-grandchildren, Jordon, Myah and Jaeda Menfee.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Casey Sandford, and a sister, Bonnie Gorley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 22, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville by Revs. Doug Davis and Johnna Mansuetto, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Harold Logue, Jackie Casey, Robert Overstreet, Alec Russell, Randall Riley and Johnny Harmon.

Visiting hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Joni Wilder Scholarship Fund, Heritage Hospice and Boyle County Senior Citizens.

ALONZO CUNNINGHAM

Alonzo Carnegie “A. C.” Cunningham, 92, formerly of Harrodsburg, widower of Margaret Parrott Cunningham, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 at his residence.

He is the son of the late Alonzo Clay and Cora Lloyd Cunningham. He was a lifelong farmer and a retired carpenter. He was a member of the Anderson Christian Church and the Church Builders Sunday School class and a former elder at Alton Christian Church. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Lawrenceburg Senior Citizens Center. He was one of nine recipients of the 2011 William R. Markesbury Senior Star Award winners from the KY Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Foundation.

He is survived by a daughter, Joyce (Jackie) Gritton of Lawrenceburg; two sons, Roy (Renee) Cunningham and Carroll (Betty) Cunningham, both of Shelbyville; a son-in-law, Bobby Ritter of Lawrenceburg; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Zelma Rae Ritter; two sisters, Ellen Hurt and Frances “Fanny” Teater; two half brothers, Robert and David Cunningham; a half sister, Betty Cunningham Knox; three grandchildren and a step granddaughter.

Services held 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Doug Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Visitation 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601 or Lawrenceburg Senior Citizens Center, 160 Township Square, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

ONETA CURD

Oneta Rae Curd, 83, widow of the late Samuel Mundy Curd to whom she was married for 58 years, died Saturday, September 17 at the Royal Manor Nursing Home in Nicholasville.

Born in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Sally B. Snyder Curtsinger and Claude Curtsinger.

Oneta was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and a retired Texas Instruments employee.

She is survived by: one son, Gary L. (Sue) Curd; special grandson, Ethan G. Curd, both of Woodford County; one sister, Shirley Locker; one brother, William J. (Betty) Curtsinger, of Nicholasville, and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Cecil Curtsinger Sr. and Harlet Curtsinger, preceded her in death.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, September 20, at the Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Steve Alford officiating. Burial was in Rose Crest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eddie Dean Locker, Paul Morgan Locker, Joe Locker, Bobby Neal, Beau Neal, Ethan Curd, and Cecil Curtsinger, Jr.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Royal Manor Nursing Home, who became a loving part of her extended family, and Hospice of the Bluegrass for their gentle care and respect.
