AVA DINSMORE

Ava Dinsmore, 83, of Danville, died Saturday October 15, 2011.

Born July 17, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Noah and Vina Belle Branham Salyer.

Survivors include: her husband, James Wiley Dinsmore Jr.; children, Jim (Marjorie) Dinsmore, Jeff Dinsmore and Darvan (Evia) Dinsmore, all of Danville, Brian (Brenda) Dinsmore of Harrodsburg, Kim (Mike) Hager of Louisville, Karen (Vincent) Coppola of Junction City and Glenda (Jay) Dixon of Danville; one brother, Richard Salyer of Louisville; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be private.

RALPH CUMMINS

Ralph Cummins, 77, of Danville, died Sunday, October 16, 2011.

Born Jan. 29, 1934, in Perryville, he was the son of Henry Milton and Rena Anderson Cummins.

He was retired from Modine Manufacturing in Harrodsburg. Ralph graduated from Perryville High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army for two years and the Air Force for four years. He loved the U.K. Wildcats and the St. Louis Cardinals and played baseball himself for many years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jean Montgomery Cummins. They were married on October 14, 1961.

Additional survivors are his many nieces and nephews.

Ralph was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Roy, his twin; and five sisters, Dorothy Portier, Lorene Hundley, Ruby Yankey, Clara Brown Duncan and Anna Pearl Rose.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 20, at the Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Ernest Martin and Rev. Brent Rowe will officiate. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Stith Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the chuch.

Memorials are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, Gideon's International or Danville Christian Academy.

ALLENE GORDON

Allene Elliott Gordon, 89, died Monday October 17, 2011.

Born January 24, 1922 to the late Lee Morgan and Ethel Young Trower, she is the widow of Virgil P. Elliott Sr. and Edgar Gordon.

She was a beautician and owner of the Town and Country Beauty Shop and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She volunteered at the front desk of Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for 22 years.

She is survived by: one son, Virgil P. (Linda Sue) Elliott Jr. of Harrodsburg; one step-son, Larry (Janet) Gordon of Moreland; one step-daughter, Beverly Presley, one sister, Jean Pittman of Clarksville, IN; three grandchildren, Colby (Ashley) Elliott, Camille Goodlet, Taylor Price Elliott, and five great-grandchildren, Brett Elliott, Gabe Elliott, Alyssa Goodlet, Aleksandra Goodlet, and Layne Price Elliott.

She was predeceased by a son, Ronald Dale Elliott and step-son, Ronald Gordon.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, October 21, at the Stith Funeral Home in Danville. Rev. Brent Rowe and Rev. Ernest Martin will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Cobly Elliott, James Murphy, Malone Anderson, Jack Tussey, Chuck Stallard, Steve Gilvin and Steve Gibson. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

The family suggests donations to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund.

STANLEY HELM

Stanley Helm, 95 of Danville, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011 at the Charleston Health Care Center in Danville.

Born Oct. 26, 1915 in Parksville was the son of the late Benjamin Hardin Helm and Mary Moore Helm. He was a former Union Pacific Railroad employee and a Veteran of World War 11. He was a member of Parksville Christian Church.

He is survived by four nephews, Wayne Westerfield of Harrodsburg, John Cocanougher of Oxford, Ohio, H.P. Durham of Prescott Ariz. and Donald Helm of Fish Creek, Wis.; two nieces, Lillian Scoyen of Palo Alto, Calif. and Mary Jo Helm of Fish Creek, Wis. and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Parksville Cemetery with Everett Priddy officiating.

JIMMY MONTGOMERY

Jimmy Nelson Montgomery, 52, husband of Tammy Kays Montgomery, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011 at his residence.

Born June 21, 1959 in Woodford County, he was the son of Joyce Baxter Montgomery and the late Bobby Nelson Montgomery. He was owner of M & M Home Improvement and in partnership of Wild Turkey Trace Golf Course. He was a 1977 graduate of Mercer County High School and was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors other than his mother and wife include two daughters, Christina Marie Montgomery and Jaclyn LaShea Montgomery; one sister, Wanda Montgomery; one brother, Leonard Montgomery and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services were held Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 at First Christian Church in Lawrenceburg with Rev. Jim Wheeler, Bro. Bryan Proctor and Rev. Micki McHugh officiating. Pallbearers were Mike Riley, Timmy Peavler, Rick Hawkins, Kent Rhodes, Red Evans, Charlie Craycraft and Steve Settles. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Shelton, Chuck Beagle, Chasidy and Sabrina Shelton, Jerry Crawford, Wade Hatchell and Harold Moore.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a Fund for the Benefit of Christina & Jaclyn Montgomery, c/o Century Bank, 201 W. Woodford St., Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

THELMA SCHMUCKER

Thelma Louise Preston Schmucker, 85, widow of Donald Henry Carl Schmucker, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2011.

Born Nov. 24, 1925 in Van Arsdell, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Elizabeth Patterson Preston. She was a 1944 graduate of Lafayette High School and the University of Kentucky. She was a retired Fayette County school teacher and member of Rosemont Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Donald (Lena) Schmucker, Jr. of Alexandria, Va; two daughters, Patricia (Jay) Ramsey of Salvisa and Gloria (Les) Burd of Lexington; one sister, Garnetta Rhoads Loucks of Lexington; one brother, Franklin (Doris) Preston of Port St. Lucie, Fla; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Rosemont Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Benton officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rosemont Baptist Church Elevator Fund, 556 Rosemont Garden, Lexington, KY 40503 or the American Cancer Society, 1504 College Way, Lexington, KY 40502.

JERRY TAYLOR

Jerry Justin Taylor, 54, husband of Malinda Jane Taylor of Harrodsburg died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011.

Born, Sept. 26, 1957 in Harrisburg, Penn., he was the son of the late Richard and Cynthia Taylor. He was a self-employed construction worker, served in the United States Navy, was a member of the Southside Christian Church, the VFW and the NRA.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sharon Bartley of Springfield and Melissa Bowman; one brother, Gary (Dee) Taylor of Chincoteague, Penn.; two sisters, Vivian Bradds of Chincoteague, Penn. and Amy (Billy) Carter of Chesapeake, Va.; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one God-daughter.

He was preceded in death by one brother Rick Taylor and a grandson, Timothy Holt.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Oc. 23, at Old Fort Harrod State Park, under the Osage Orange tree, with Bro. Scott Bugg officiating.

Contributions may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society or the Mercer County Relay For Life. Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES CAREY

James M. Carey, 87, of Milwaukee, Wis., formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011. He was an Army veteran of WWII.

Survivors include his wife, Eulaine Carey; a son, Jim (Kathleen) Carey; a brother, Carl (Dorothy) Carey and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dalton Carey.

A private funeral service for the family is planned in Milwaukee.

WILLIAM CASH

William Garland Cash, 74, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the Saint Joseph Hospital, Lexington.

Born July 19, 1937 in Marion, KY, he was the son of the late Homer and Ruby Maxfield Cash.

He served during Vietname War in the U S Army. He was a retired from the Corp. of Engineers.

Survivors include: his wife, Shirley Proctor; one daughter, Kimberly Cash Peterson of Paducah; one sister, Connie Perryman of Marion; four grandchildren, Brandi Cash, Sierra Mason, Ashton Huffman, Rachael Huffman; and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by five siblings, James Ray, John Ed Cash, Willene Cash, Pauline Conyer and Louise Larue.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 22 at the Myers Funeral Home in Marion by Bro. Alexander with burial in the Salem Cemetery.

Pallbearers were family members.

GEORGE DARLAND

George W. Darland, 77, husband of Mary L. Darland, died Oct. 18, 2011.

Born July 15, 1934, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Ray (Divine) Darland. He was a member of the Oakland Masonic Lodge and the Murat Shrine.

Survivors other than his wife include three daughters, Marie L. (Tim) Longmont of Colorado, Nancy A. (Tom) Moore of Indianapolis, Ind., Marilyn Schafer of Winder, Ga.; a son, Karl W. (Debbie) Darland of New Castle, Ind.; three brothers, Marvin (Pearl) Darland of Lexington, Floyd (Pat) Darland of Indianapolis, Ind., Connie (Joyce) Darland of Harrodsburg and Dale (Rhonda) Darland of Harrodsburg and three sisters, Margaret Ward of Harrodsburg, Ruth Hatter of Danville and Gloria Murphy of Harrodsburg; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, J. B. Darland, Earl D. Darland, a sister, Virginia Matherly and a grandson, Nicholas Benjamin Schafer.

Services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 22. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery.

WILLIAM FRANKLIN

William Franklin, 80, of Stanford, died Wednesday October 19, 2011.

Born June 2, 1928 to William and Elizabeth Parker Franklin, he was a bricklayer. He is the widower of Thelma Franklin.

He is survived by: two sons, James William “Billy” (Sharon) Franklin and Tony (Sue) Franklin, both of Stanford; three daughters, Janie (Fred) Stibral of Danville, Diane (Mike) Rogers of Junction City, and Barbara (Tommy) Neice of Lexington; one sister, Dorothy Hogue of Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Saturday, October 22, at the Stith Funeral Home in Danville. Rev. David Fralix officiated. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were his grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters.

STEVEN FORSYTHE

Steven Lee Forsythe, 59, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 23, 1952 in Pickaway, Ohio, he was the son of the late Donald E. and Leah M. Davis Forsythe. He was an advocate for handicap awareness and accessibility for Ohio disabled in Washington, D.C. He was a retired thoroughbred horse trainer, woodworker and artist.

Survivors include two sisters, Susan DeCan of Harrodsburg and Nancy Elgin of Texas and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Forsythe, Sr., and a nephew, Mathew E. DeCan.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Bethel-Cumberland Presbyterian #1 Cemetery. Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

MARTHA KEETON

Martha Elizabeth Leonard Keeton, 84, of Richmond, passed away on Tuesday, October 25th, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond after a long illness.

She was born on March 22, 1927 in Harrodsburg, to Harvey D. Leonard and Wilhelmina Satterly Leonard.

She graduated from Harrodsburg High School in 1944 and was an alumnus of Georgetown College where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music and a Master’s degree in Business Education. Martha spent her career in the education field as a teacher and Curriculum Specialist in Vocational Education for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Martha was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Richmond, Kentucky. She brought joy to many through her sense of humor and talent for music. She was especially known for playing the piano, which she enjoyed for 80 years.

Martha is survived by: Lloyd Keeton, her husband of 64 years. She is also survived by her two sons, Gregory Leonard Keeton of Federal Way, Washington and David Price Keeton of Berea, her grandson, Robert Michael Keeton of Powell, TN, her granddaughter, Victoria Diamond Keeton of Berea, and one great-grandson, Benjamin Lloyd Keeton of Powell, TN.

Service is to be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2011, at the Oldham, Roberts, and Powell Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation after 10 a.m. until service time. Martha will be laid to rest in Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

In lieu of flowers, friends can make an honorary donation to Hospice Care Plus, Inc., 208 Kidd Drive, Berea, Kentucky 40403.
