MARY FREEMAN

Mary Claunch Freeman, 83, widow of Vincent P. Freeman, died Saturday at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late Marcus Samuel Claunch and Effie Bottoms Claunch of Harrodsburg. She was an employee at Eastern State Hospital, retiring in 1995.

She is survived by a daughter Rebecca Ann (Stephen) Stanley, a son Mark S. (Vicki) Freeman, four granddaughters Rebecca Ann Freeman, Brandy Dawn Freeman, Sonya Hodge, and Stephanie Stanley, two grandsons Andrew and Matthew Shepherd and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Wednesday at Milward – Southland Funeral Home. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Bluegrass.

OLEN GOVER

Olen Joe “O. J.” Gover of Junction City died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at his residence.

Born Sept. 10, 1952 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late W.B. and Gladys Clarkston Gover II. He was a Past Master of the Rockyford Lodge 765, a self employed spray painter, an iron worker and carpenter.

Survivors include two children, Victoria Worthington and April Fulton, three stepchildren, Kevin Montegomery, Debbie Claunch and Jerry Montegomery, two half sisters, Mary Ellen Phillips and Wendy (Elby) Smith, a half brother, Raymond Phillips, five grandchildren, a great granddaughter, seven step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and Wesley Bruce Gover III.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 31, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Denton officiating. Burial was in the Hustonville Cemetery with Noah Smith, D.J. Alcorn, Justin Worthington, Richard Davidson, Kevin Montegomery, Jerry Montegomery, Harold Fulton and Steve Mayle serving as pallbearers.

BRUCE HUFFMAN

Bruce Wayne Huffman, 70, Harrodsburg, husband of Bonnie Marie Chapman Huffman died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011 at his residence.

Born April 27, 1941 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James Ray and Lillie Mae Foster Huffman. He was self employed and a Baptist.

Survivors other than his wife include two sons, Mark Wayne (Lee) Huffman of Waldorf, Md. and Robin Huffman of Harrodsburg, five daughters, Tammie (Danny) Richardson of Springfield, Wanda (Gary) Dixon of Salvisa, Patty (Brent) Sallee of Harrodsburg, Kimberly (Rex) Wilkes of Burgin, and Bruce Annette (Todd) Russell of Danville, one brother, Harold Huffman of Lexington, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four great- great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by a son, Mickeal Chapman, four brothers, Arthur, William, Hugh and James Huffman and one sister, Wanda Mae Huffman Dean.

Funeral services were 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. George Dye officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brent Sallee, Ethan Sallee, Matthew Dixon, Gary Dixon, Michael Lee Chapman and Todd Russell. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Michael Geile, Rex Wilkes, James Laswell, Doug Harmon, Bronson Yeast, Buford Noel, Jim Baker and Danny Richardson.

Memorial may be sent to Heritage Hospice, 120 Enterprise Drive, Danville, KY 40422.

MARTHA KEETON

Martha Elizabeth Leonard Keeton, 84, of Richmond, wife of Lloyd Keeton, died Tuesday, Oct. 25 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

Born March 22, 1927 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Harvey D. Leonard and Wilhelmina Satterly Leonard. She graduated from Harrodsburg High School and Georgetown College. She was a teacher and curriculum specialist in vocational education for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

She was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Richmond.

Survivors other than her husband include two sons, Gregory Leonard Keeton of Federal Way, Wa. and David Price Keeton of Berea, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services were held Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice Care Plus, Inc., 208 Kidd Drive, Berea, KY 40403.

ALYSSA KELTY

Alyssa Danielle Kelty, 17, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2011.

Born Oct. 5, 1994 in Danville, she was the daughter of Frances Lisa Cambron of Lexington and Ernest Russell Kelty, Jr. of Harrodsburg. She was a student at Mercer County Senior High and a cheerleader.

Survivors other than her parents include, two brothers, Patrick (Chelsie) Kelty of Lexington, Dylan Kelty of Harrodsburg, step mother, Melissa Jane Readnower Kelty, two step brothers, Brandon and Justin Short of Harrodsburg, maternal grandmother, Shirley Ann Cambron of Springfield and paternal grandmother, Barbara Kelty of Springfield.

Funeral services were 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Southside Christian Church with Bro. Matt Robbins and Bro. Phil Yates officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brandon Short, Justin Short, Jerod Kelty, Lucas Readnower, Matt Readnower and Kyle Hagan. Honorary bearers were members of the Mercer County Senior High Cheerleading Squad.

BILLY LUNSFORD

Billy Phillip Lunsford, 65, of Harrodsburg, husband of Linda Bays Lunsford, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011 at his residence.

Born Feb. 20, 1946 in Noblesville, Ind., he was the son of the late Eugene and Floy McKinley Lunsford. He was a retired Chrysler-Dodge Technician, was co-owner of the Ohio County Chrysler Dealership in Beaver Dam and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors in addition to his wife include one son Phillip Lunsford of Kokomo, Ind., four brothers, Tommy, Buddy and Charles Lunsford all of Hartford and Kenny Lunsford of Beaver Dam, five sisters, Jo Lynn Sowers of Noblesville, Ind., Mary Jane Gustin of Anderson, Ind., Darlene Jones of Hartford, Kathy Rhineheimer of Lawrenceburg and Dottie Rose of Nicholasville, five half-sisters,Wilma Lunsford, Midge Ball and Corinne Lunsford all of Anderson, Ind., Louise Lunsford of Atlanta and Betty Sue Lunsford of Noblesville, Ind. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Billy Phillip Lunsford, Jr. and Todd Lunsford, and two brothers, Jimmy and Leroy Lunsford.

Memorial service was Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. John Kesel officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Church of Christ Cemetery.

JAMES ROYALTY

James Huntley Royalty, 89, of Harrodsburg, widower of Margaret Isham Royalty, died Thursday Oct. 27, 2011, at Veterans Administration Hospice Center in Lexington.

Born June 6, 1922 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Hollie G. and Emma Sallee Royalty. He was a WWII veteran serving with the U.S. Army, and a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a farmer, originally owned Royalty’s Florist of Harrodsburg and elder emeritus of Harrodsburg Christian Church.

Survivors include a son Larry (Beverly) Royalty of Harrodsburg, a daughter-in-law, Cindy Royalty of Harrodsburg, a brother, Gene (Mildred) Royalty of Jamestown, four grandchildren, Tammy (Phil) Barton of Md., Kathy (John) Cooley of Harrodsburg, Brian Royalty of Lebanon, Tenn. and Holly (David) Young of Harrodsburg and seven great-grandchildren .

He was preceded in death by a son Mike Royalty and a brother Hollie Boyd Royalty.

Funeral services were Saturday Oct. 29, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home where Phil Williams officiated. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with military Honors.

Pallbearers were David Young, John Cooley, Clint Lester, Phil Barton, Brian Royalty, Frank Kemplin and Jerry Foster. Honorary pallbearers were Brennan Royalty, Garland Yankey, Tom Cox and Ben Lee Britton, Jr.

Memorials may be to Harrodsburg Christian Church, 305 South Main Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

JUDY BAKER

Judy Baker, 64, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Lancaster, passed away, Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.

She was born Monday, February 10, 1947 in Boyle County.

She was a homemaker, member of Hyattsville Baptist Church, enjoyed cleaning her house and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include: her children, Stephanie Preston of Danville, Julian Baker of Crab Orchard, Stevie Baker of Lancaster, Kathy Sterberl of Stanford, Blake Baker of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Jaden, Jonathan, Taven, and Brayli Steberl, Isaiah and Nathanial Baker.

She was preceded in death by her parents' Clarence and Elizabeth Chambers Belcher, and her husband, Clifton.

Services were conducted Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Lancaster with Bro. Max Hester officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Stanford Baptist Youth.

Ramsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HATTIE CHILTON

Hattie B. Chilton, 93, of Harrodsburg, widow of Lewis M. Chilton, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born May 2, 1918 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late James Daniel “J.D.” and Hester Newby Black. She was retired from the Kentucky Department of Human Resources.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Chilton of Harrodsburg and David (Julia) Chilton of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Hazel Lester and sister-in-law, Sarah Black, both of Harrodsburg.

The funeral was held Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Phil Williams officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Doug Greenburg, Tupper Hardman, Jim Ingram, Brent Moseley, Kevin Perkins, Darell Rickmers and Kenny Wade. The Elders of Harrodsburg Christian Church served as honorary bearers.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Harrodsburg Christian Church, 305 South Main Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

JOHN DARSIE III

John C. Darsie III, 49, of Lexington, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at the Markey Cancer Center Hospice Unit.

Born at Sewart Air Force Base, TN, he was the son of Jenny Flynn Darsie of Lexington, formerly of Harrodsburg, and the late John C. Darsie Jr.

He attended Transylvania University and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He worked for 10 years at The Mansion at the Griffin Gate Marriott in Lexington before joining Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance, Fayette County, in 1996 as an agent. He also became an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Versailles, where he participated in various charitable activities and served as co-chair of the Roger Reeves Golf Tournament to benefit children in the Woodford County Reading Club.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by: one son, John Patrick Darsie, Lexington; one brother, Jeffrey L. Darsie, Baltimore, MD; two aunts, Judy Parente, Falls Church, VA, and Janet Pay, Pasadena, TX; an uncle, William L. Flynn, Cumming, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; the mother of his son, Lisa Darsie, Lexington, and her mother, Sheila Easton, Frankfort; and his stepmother, Gay Elste Darsie Glenn, Versailles.

An uncle, Glenn Flynn, is deceased.

Services were conducted Friday, November 4, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Versailles, by Rev. Dr. Philip C. Linder.

Honorary casket bearers were Robert Fugate, Tim Downey, Matthew Barry, Tim Miller, Michael Davis, Mary Legge, Carrie Johnson, Debbie Canter, and Janet Young.

Milward Funeral Home, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, the Markey Cancer Center, or the St. John’s Episcopal Church Reading Club.

MARGARETTE MURPHY

Margarette Jane Murphy, age 90, Harrodsburg, widow of Virgil Murphy, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center,

Born March 20, 1921 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Hollie Chumley Nichols.

She was a retired Modine factory worker and was a member of the Bethel #1 Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Wanda Dean of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren, Jane Campbell and Kimberly Gorham; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

There will be no visitation and no service.

Arrangements by Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg.

FRAN NAPIER

Fran Denney Napier, 60, of Danville, died November 3, 2011.

Born June 10, 1951 in Broughtontown, she was the daughter of Carl and lena Alice Abbott Denney.

Fran was a homemaker and a member of the Greater Life Apostolic Church, Harrodsburg.

She is survived by: her husband, Robert Napier, Danville; one son, Chris (Rhonda) Napier, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Rona Napier, Danville; two brothers, Carl (Diana) Denney, Cincinnati, OH and Bobby Lee Denney, Brodhead; two sisters, Juanita Harrison, Lancaster and Loretta (Charles) Gilliam, Mt. Olivet; and a granddaughter, Makenna Brook Napier.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bettie Lou Pearl and Pauline Denney and three brothers, Carlos, Danny and Billy Denney.

The funeral service was conducted Wednesday, November 9, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. Brother Randy Myers and Brother Wayne Naylor officiated. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.
