WILLIAM PINKSTON

William T. Pinkston, 92, Harrodsburg, widower of Elizabeth Gaynelle Gardner Pinkston, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at the St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis, Ind.

Born March 6, 1919 in Washington County, he was the son of the late A.H. “Arlie” and Nante Belle Graham Pinkston. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was the owner/operator of Gardner and Pinkston. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a life member of American Legion and the VFW, a member of the Central States, Green River and Ohio Archaeological Societies and the Genuine Indian Relic Society.

Survivors include two daughters, Gayla (Steve) March of Alachua, Fla.; Sherra (Bill) Hardy of Harrodsburg; one son, David Pinkston of Apachua, Fla.; brother-in-law, Bill Wilham; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 21 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with W.O. Wilham and Wayne Spivey officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael Taylor, Robert Patrick Hardy, Tim Taylor, Craig Thomas Hardy, William J. Hardy III, James Taylor, Kevin Groff, Gary Noel, Bob Franklin, Al Taylor, Steve March and William J. Hardy Jr.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Harrodsburg Baptist Church, 302 South Main Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

CECIL RILEY

Cecil L. Riley, 87, of Lebanon, formerly of Harrodsburg, husband of Mildred Birdwhistell Riley, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, in Lebanon.

Born Jan. 14, 1924 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Ernest and Lillie Riley. He was a WWII veteran, a retired Mago Construction Company engineer and worked for Standard Oil of California for several years. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He also served as chairman of the Joint Mercer County Planning and Zoning Commission for several years and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors other than his wife include a nephew, Monty Parman, two great-nephews and one great-niece and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Riley.

Services were held Sunday, Nov. 20 at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church with Darren Gillespie and Eddie Russell officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery with military honors.

Pallbearers were Phil Crump, Mark Mathis, Clint Parman, Alex Parman, Haley Parman and Kent Sparrow. Honorary bearers were members of the Faith, Hope and Love Sunday School Class.

CLYDE SHERROW

Clyde Sherrow, 90, of Hill N Dale in Lancaster, died Tuesday , November 22, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Medical Center in Danville.

Born December 2, 1920 in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Jess and Lucy Huffman Sherrow.

Clyde had been a school bus driver for the Garrard County School System for over 60 years, was a member of the Lancaster Baptist Church and a member of the Franklin Lodge.

His survivors include: one daughter, Rita (Bill) Carrier of Port Charlotte, FL; one son-in-law, Johnny Snyder; one brother, Earl Sherrow of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Evon Curtis of Lancaster and Ersi Ellis of NC; two granddaughters, Debbie (Kaywood) Morris and Susan (Brandon) Conley of Lancaster; and four great-grandchildren , Dalton and Mya Grace Morris and Devin and Payton Conley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Humphrey Sherrow, two daughters, Patsy Snyder and Connie Gayle Sherrow, a brother, Clarence Sherrow, a step brother, George Sam Adams, and two sisters, Hazel Woods and Juanita Bishop.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 26, at the Ramsey Funeral Home by Revs. Kaywood Morris and Bob Rush with burial following in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wes Dean, Kenny Curtis, Harold Sherrow, Ron Jenson, J. K. Simpson and James Werkmeister,

Honorary bearers will be David Abee, Charlie Rose, Sky Tudor, Carliss Conley, Buddy Arnold, Jackie Powers, Phil Murphy, Caywood Metcalfe, Jimmy Crutchfield, Paul East, John Ball, T. J. Taylor and Steve Horn.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may go to the American Diabetes. Association or the American Cancer Society.

HORACE ELLIS

Horace Ellis, 83, of Harrodsburg, husband of Marie Camic Ellis, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born May 10, 1928 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Elwood Lee and Kate McFarland Ellis. He was a graduate of Harrodsburg High School and Eastern Kentucky University, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and an industrial arts teacher and administrator in the Harrodsburg, Danville and Boyle County school districts. He was also a member of the Kentucky and Danville retired teachers association, a member of the Harrodsburg VFW and a member of the Mercer Church of Christ.

Survivors other than his wife include one son, Dr. LeMayne (Georgia) Ellis of Harrodsburg; one brother, Elwood Lee Ellis, Jr. of Lakeland, Fla and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. David Dolen, three brothers James, Ed, and George Ellis and two sisters, Viola Castleberry and Marie Shewmaker.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at the Sims Funeral Services with Greg Warren and Craig Simon officiating. Burial was in the Springhill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Robert Bishop, Bruce Helm, Norman Jennings, Bill Robinson, Gary Sanford and Jerry Wilham. Honorary bearers were members of the Mercer Church of Christ.

Memorial donations may be made to Heritage Hospice or the American Lung Association.

HUGH FINDLAY

Hugh Thomas Findlay, 89, of Lexington, departed this life at his residence in on November 22, 2011.

He was born in Liverpool, England on March 2, 1922 to the late William and Matilda Findlay.

As a boy the family immigrated to Montreal, Canada where he grew up and joined the Canadian Army at the start of World War II. His distinguished military service contributed to the Allies victory for the principles of freedom.

In 1954 he married Sarah Whitelaw Dalton (originally of Edinburgh Scotland) in Toronto Canada and was a devoted husband and father for 56 years.

He is survived by: his wife, Sarah (Sally). Hugh; five children, Christopher Findlay of Fairfax, VA, Hugh J. Findlay of Durham, NC, Geralyn Latham of Harrodsburg, Sally Quigley and Doug Findlay, both of Lexington; and 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by his in-laws: Therese Findlay, Julia and George DuPont, Stan and Patty Dalton, Betty and Johnny Rae and multiple nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, William Findlay and Alan Findlay, and by his sister, Jean Taylor.

Funeral Mass was held Saturday, November 26, at 10 a.m. in the St. Peter Catholic Church with burial following in Calvary Cemetery.

Donations in Hugh T. Findlay’s remembrance can be made to the St Vincent DePaul Society % St. Peter Catholic Church, 153 Barr St., Lexington, KY 40507.

Milward – Man O’War, 1509 Trent Blvd. Lexington, was in charge of arrangements.

NICKOL GILLUM

Nickol Gail “Nicky” Gillum, 70, of Lexington, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011.

She was the daughter of the late A. C. and Amanda Ingram Power. She was a realtor.

Survivors include one sister, Rita Long of Lexington; two nieces, Tammy (Thad) Sullivan of Richmond and Tina (Robin) Hagenbuch of Salvisa; several great-nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 26 at Milward Southland with burial in the Lexington Cemetery. Milward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MARLEIGH HOWARD

Marleigh Rae Howard, infant daughter of Melissa Shannon and Jacob Howard, died Nov. 27, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Emilia and Donovan Cornish of Lawrenceburg, Sheila and Ray Shannon, Kenneth and Denise Thomas and Jeff Selby, all of Danville; her great-grandparents, Ruth and Cyrus Wesley of Casey County, Wanda Thomas of Harrodsburg. and Jimmy and Susan Howard of Selmer, Tenn.; six aunts, Michelle Shannon, Peyton Howard, Kasey Burchett, Molly Selby, Kelly Watts and Sonya Selby and two uncles, Derrik Cornish and Ryan Mitchell.

Service will be at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, at Stith Funeral Home in Junction City with Rev. Dale Denton and Rev. Ricky Shannon officiating. Burial will be in Junction City Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday in Junction City from 12 -1 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to a fund for Melissa Shannon and Jacob Howard at McNamara and Jones Law Office, 315 High Street, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.

GLENNA HUGHES

Glenna Boswell Hughes, 64, of Conyers, Ga. died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011.

A native of Harrodsburg, she retired from the Fulton County, Ga. DFCS after 30 years of service. She attended the University of Louisville and starred in musicals, helping start The Neighborhood Playhouse Theatre in Decatur, Ga.

She is survived by her husband, Holly R. Hughes of Conyers, Ga.; sons, Matthew Allrid of Snellville, Ga. and Brandon Hughes of Conyers, Ga.; step-daughter, Heather Johnson of Tenn.; brothers-in-law, Mike Hughes of Al, Ga., Kenny (Jayne) Hughes and Jeff Hughes, all of Waleska, Ga and several nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Horis A. Ward’s Rockdale Chapel.

BRANDY JONES

Brandy Denise “Sissy” Jones, 22, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday Nov. 23, 2011 at the University of Louisville Hospital.

She was a member of New Life Community Church in Ballardsville.

Survivors include her mother, Karen (Clyde) Miller of Shelbyville; her father, Lewis (Darren) Jones of Harrodsburg; one brother, Lewis Jones, Jr. of Shelbyville; one sister, Dominique Jones of Shelbyville; stepsisters, Heather Nalley and Crystal Eldridge; grandparents, Fannie Davis and Lewis and Jean Jones, all of Shelbyville.

Funeral service were held Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 at Shannon Funeral Home with Rev. Lonnie Hardin and Rev. Rob Marshall officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana, 982 Eastern Parkway, Louisville, KY 40217-1566.

MARY LANCASTER

Mary Burton Lancaster, 67, passed on November 19, 2011 at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.

She was the daughter of David Lee Burton and Leontyne Baughman on May 11, 1944 in Danville.

Mary was formerly employed by the Wal-Mart Corporation and the Kentucky State Hospital.

She is survived by: her husband, Donald Lancaster, Danville; four children, Twylla McKitric, Danville, William (Jennifer) Burton, Harrodsburg, David McKitric, Stanford and LeVar Burton, Danville; two sisters, Brenda (Michael) Hughes, Danville and Shirley (George) Baughman; one brother, James (Tacy) Baughman, Jr., all of Danville; nine grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 28, at The St. James AME Church with Pastor William Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Hilldale Cemetery.

Smith-Jackson Funeral Home, Danville, is in charge of services.

JANET LISTER

Janet Lee Lister 56, wife of Danny Lister, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Dec. 25, 1954 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Stella Stagner Quinn. She was a retired Head Start employee and a member of Burgin United Methodist Church.

Survivors other than her husband include two daughters, Stella Marie Lister of Harrodsburg and Stephanie Redford of Danville; one brother, J.W. Quinn of Harrodsburg and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Quinn, Jr.

Services were conducted Monday, Nov. 28, at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Phillip Yates officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Dennis Lister, Adam Lister, Carter Lister, Pat Lear, Marcus Baker and Jeremy Rolland. Honorary Pallbearers were Paul Wilham and Jessey Lister.

JOSÉ MEZA

José Fernando Navarro Meza, 26, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born July 18, 1985 in Vera Cruz, Mexico, he was the son of Serafin Navarro Ortiz and Yaris Meza Tabal of Vera Cruz, Mexico. He was a bus boy at LaFonda’s Restaurant.

Survivors besides his parents include his girlfriend, Helena Pascual Francisco of Harrodsburg; paternal grandparents Ana Ortiz Diaz and Adan Ortiz Galan of Vera Cruz, Mexico; one daughter, Yamilet Navarro Pascual and one stepdaughter, Christy Felix Pascual both, of Harrodsburg; one stepson Eduardo Felix Pascual of Harrodsburg; one brother, Silvestre Navarro Meza of Vera Cruz, Mexico; one sister, Yenesenia Navarro Meza of Vera Cruz, Mexico; one aunt, Florinda Cuellar Tabal of Harrodsburg and one uncle, Ruperto Ortiz Ortiz of Chippewa, Pa.

A vigil was held Monday, Nov. 28 at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Noel Zamora Officiating.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
