MARTIN PORTER SR.

Martin Spalding Porter Sr., 77, of Lebanon, died Sunday November 27, 2011 at his residence after an illness.

He is survived by: his wife Fannie Moffitt Porter of Lebanon; five sons, Martin S. Porter Jr. of Louisville, Tyrone Porter of Harrodsburg, James (Chili) Porter and Terry Michael Porter of Lebanon, William Darrell Porter of Lexington; two step sons, Michael Moffitt of Lexington and Richard Moffitt of Lebanon; three daughters, Sheila Gunn and Vivian Porter both of Lebanon and Mary Joyce Porter of Elizabethtown; three step daughters, Mary Moffitt and Jackie Moffitt, both of Lebanon, Diane Ray of Louisville; one brother, Willie Steve Porter Sr. of Louisville; and five sisters, Lucy Brown, Ollie Calhoun, Grace Owen, Rose Graves, all of Lebanon and Mary Catherine Webster of Louisville. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 1st at St. Augustine Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.

The family requests visitation after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30 at the Campbell-Dewitt funeral home in Lebanon.

LUCY ROGERS

Lucy C. Stratton Rogers, 86, widow of Roy H. Rogers, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Lawrenceburg.

Born April 26, 1925 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Susan Betsy Disponett Stratton. She was a former employee of Kentucky Overall, a janitor at Rutherford School for the Anderson County Board of Education and a former election officer. She was a member of Goshen Baptist Church and the Goshen Gals Homemakers.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Ed) Sweasy and Sandra (Butch) Dunning, all of Mercer County; four sons, Jimmy (Cheryl) Rogers of Woodford County, Mike (Jan) Rogers, Roger (Carrie) Rogers and Tim (Marsha) Rogers, all of Lawrenceburg; daughter-in-law Betty Rogers of Harrodsburg; a sister, Susan Mary Searcy of Lawrenceburg; a brother, Stanley Stratton of Ga.; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roy Jeffrey Rogers and three sisters Dollie Goodlett, Maggie Pearl Stratton and Trixie Riley.

Services were held Monday, Nov. 28 at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Debell officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lynn and Loren Wells, Josh, Patrick, Kent, Keith and Timmy Rogers. Her remaining grandchildren served as honorary bearers.

CARROLL SETTLES

Carroll Davis Settles, 63, of Tatam Springs Road, Willisburg, passed away at 8:15 p.m. at his home.

Survivors include: his wife, Anita Derringer Settles; one daughter, Denita Simms of Springfield; one son, Carroll “Dinky” Settles of Willisburg; four grandchildren; his mother, Eliza Jane Settles of Willisburg; his father-in-law and step-mother-in-law, Richard & Naomi Derringer of Harrodsburg; four brothers, Benjamin Settles of Springfield, Stevie Settles and Donnie Settles, both of Mackville and Gary Settles of Willisburg; Seven sisters, Eleanor Moore of Springfield, Barbara Lewis of Bloomfield, Judy Payton, Kathy Divine and Gloria Hamlin, all of Harrodsburg, Connie Chesser and Sherry Boblitt, both of Willisburg.

Funeral Services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home in Springfield with burial in Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: The Mt. Freedom Baptist Church.

LONNIE SPAULDING SR.

Lonnie Lee Spaulding Sr., 72, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011.

He is survived by his wife, Donnie Lee Foley Spaulding; a daughter, Jonnie (Frank) Horneman and a son, Lonnie Lee (Mattie) Spaulding Jr., all of Lawrenceburg.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011 at Gash Memorial Chapel in with Bro. Robert Logue officiating.

LONNIE SPAULDING SR.

Lonnie Lee Spaulding Sr., age 72, of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, November 26, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

He was born in Mercer County to the late Charles Clayton and Ruth Mae Brown Spaulding. He was a member, deacon, and song leader at Freedom Baptist Church. He was an electrician, dozer operator, and was an employee of the Anderson County Road Department. He was a member of the Stringtown Ruritan Club and Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donnie Lee Foley Spaulding; a daughter, Jonnie (Frank) Horneman; a son, Lonnie Lee (Mattie) Spaulding Jr., both of Lawrenceburg; 4 grandchildren, Katelyn Danielle Hughes, and Krista Grace Spaulding, Lawrenceburg, Justin Spaulding (Kelcie) Hughes, Versailles, and Jesse Thomas Spaulding, Salvisa; step granddaughter, Kelly Cheak, Lawrenceburg; a great grandson, Hunter Joseph Hughes, Versailles; 2 step great grandchildren, Heather Cheak, Lawrenceburg, and Dylan Hollis, Georgetown; a brother, Jessie (Alene) Spaulding, Harrodsburg; 2 sisters in law, Geraldine Spaulding and Marie Spaulding, Lawrenceburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Spaulding Hughes; 3 sisters, Betty Stinnett, Penny Drury, and Nellie Sherrow; and 4 brothers, William Glenn, Robert, Johnny, and Allen Spaulding.

Funeral services 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Robert Logue officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation from 5-8 P.M. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Relay For Life, c/o Derek Ruble, 106 Hamlin Way, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

Casketbearers will be Justin Hughes, Frank Horneman, Lonnie Spaulding Jr., Bobby Hyatt, Tyler Hill, and James Phillips.

Honorary Bearers will be Katelyn Hughes, Kelcie Hughes, Krista Spaulding, Carolyn Crawford, Debbie Trainer, Blanche Perry, Russell Foley Jr., and Stacy Brown.

LYLE WEAVER

Lyle Amos Weaver, 87, of Harrodsburg, husband of Barbara Ann Royalty Weaver, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at his home.

Born April 24, 1924 in Tunnelton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Gertrude Alice (Wright) Weaver. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, and was retired from Shawnee Farm maintenance.

Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Wendy (Brian) Allen of Harrodsburg, Lyla Mae (Rick) Kepler of Canton, Ohio; three sons, Edward “Gus” (Kim) Weaver of Harrodsburg, Larry Eugene (Debie) Weaver of Massillon, Ohio, and James Robert (Karen) Weaver of Salvisa; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, Gordon, Glen, Norman, and Arnett Weaver, and two sisters, Hilda Rhodes and Delores Shaffer.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 30 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with James Harley officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery with military honors.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Bennett, Ryan Weaver, Derek Patterson, Colby Taylor, Trevor Allen and Curry Haven. Honorary bearers are the Fudge Factory Jammers and Terry Cline

JIMMY BOSWELL

Jimmy Boswell, 48, of Lexington, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Born March 31, 1963 in Lexington, he was the son of the late Clarence Bryan and Helen Virginia Coffman Boswell. He was a tile installer for Martina Brothers.

Survivors include three brothers, Billy (Jean) Boswell of New Albany, Freddie (Sharon) Boswell of Mercer County and Barry (Sharon) Boswell of Waco; three sisters, Clara Darlene (Lee) King of Lexington, Peggy Traylor of Lexington, and Neita Combs of Berea and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at Spring Hill Cemetery with John Bailey officiating. No visitation will be held.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WALTER BOTTOM

Walter O. Bottom, 69, husband of Tracey Bottoms, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at his residence.

Born Oct. 9, 1942 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Taylor and Mary Frances Bottom. He was a retired appliance service technician with Pleak Hardware, was a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church and was a past Governor of the Greensburg Moose Lodge #2203 in Greensburg, Ind.

Survivors other than his wife include four sons, Walter (Sherri) Bottoms of Harrodsburg, Scott (Rebecca) Bottoms, Greg (Amanda) Bottoms and James Buell, all of Greensburg, Ind.; six daughters, Helen Frances (Kevin) Bray, Wanda Gail Melton and Tina Jean Bottoms, all of Frankfort, Ind., Angela S. (Jeff) Black and Amanda Casey, both of Greensburg, Ind., and Barbara (Seth) Lowery of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Darrell (Sue) Bottom and Wathen (Deborah) Bottom, both of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Wandola (Butch) Cheatham of Harrodsburg and Barbara (James) Steele of La Canta, Fla.; 21 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, J.T., Billy, Bobby and Neil Bottom.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the Deep Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Hale and Bro. Lewis Walter officiating. Burial was in Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Bottoms, Scott Bottoms, Greg Bottoms, James Buell, Darrell Bottom and Wathen Bottom. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Black, Jesse Bottoms, William Vanderpohl and Nathan Bottoms.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in Harrodsburg was in charge of arrangements.

RON COX

JUNCTION CITY — The soul of Ron Cox was set free on Tuesday, November 29, 2011. Formerly of Walton, KY,

Ron and his wife, Beverly (Hardin) Cox have lived in Junction City, for over 25 years.

Survivors include: his wife, Beverly; six children, Louis, Curtis, Jody, Julie, Janel and Jennifer; seven grandchildren; a loving family at Burgin Christian Church; and many special friends made during his life.

A private family gathering is planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Ron requested for friends to bury their sorrow by doing a good deed for the elderly, ill, or for a caregiver of an ill person.

W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MARY HARLOW

Sister Mary Gemma Harlow, SCN, 92, of Nazareth, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011 at the Nazareth Home in Louisville.

Born Oct. 4, 1919 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Thomas McCrystal Harlow. She was a graduate of Cornishville High School and Nazareth College. She was a teacher, principal and superintendent in the Memphis, Tenn. Diocese and a professor at Union College in Barbourville.

Survivors include a niece, Barbara Davis Kincaid; a great-niece, Kimberly Kincaid; a great nephew, Steven Kincaid and four great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Everett Harlow and two sisters, Ruby Harlow Davis and Eva Harlow.

Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 30 at St. Vincent DePaul Church in Nazareth with the Rev. Gary Young officiating. Burial was in Nazareth Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Ralston, Richard Sweazy, Joe Ruby and Van Ruby.

ELIZABETH HARRIS

Elizabeth Harris, 94, of Danville, widow of Rufus Harris, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at the Charleston Health Care Center in Danville.

Born Oct. 29, 1917 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Nelson and Hattie Buchanan Davenport. She was retired from the Harrodsburg Board of Education as secretary to the superintendent.

Survivors include a brother: Robert Davenport of Danville, and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Monday, Dec. 5 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Andy Wing officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Her nephews served as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church, 326 South Main Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 or the Salvation Army.

EILEEN PHILLIPS

Eileen Joyce Phillips, 86, of Harrodsburg, widow of Ralph B. Phillips, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.

Born Nov. 16, 1925 in Lanchas, England, she was the daughter of the late John and Nellie Howard Joyce. She was a retired homemaker.

Survivors include four daughters, Elaine Logue, Brenda Sims, Pam Sexton and Nancy Stratton, all of Harrodsburg; one son, Michael B. Phillips of Lexington; four sisters, Margaret Joyce, Anne Smith and Evelyn Oneil, all of England, and Susan Doering of Alaska; three brothers, Richard, Robert and William Joyce, all of England; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Lowe.

Services were conducted Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Michael Phillips II officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brian Sims, Brennan Sexton, McKinley Stratton, Terry Taylor, Meredith Sims, Deidra Williams, Pansy Coffman, Brandy Lewis, John Phillips, Michael Phillips II and Michael Taylor. Honorary bearers were George Hensley, Clyde Sims, Kenny Stratton, J. T. Logue, Matthew Sims, Russell Sims, Brayden Sims, Lee Williams, Jonathan Coffman, Logan Lewis, Mikaya Taylor, Von Taylor, Barran Sexton, Kasen Sexton, Gracie Carroll, Alyssa Phillips, Victoria Phillips and Addyson Williams.

Memorial contributions may be sent to The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extened Care.

THOMAS RAINES

Thomas Leon Raines, of Sacramento, CA, formerly of Danville, KY died November 30, at Harrodsburg Health Care.

He was born October 21, 1929 in Atoka, KY to the late William and Georgia Raines.

He served in the Army and Air Force and retired from Christy Truck Lines, San Francisco, CA.

He is survived by: two nieces, Gloria (Paul) Lewis and Linda (Bruce) Warren, two nephews, John Raines, Jr. (Sherry), all of Danville, and George Trigg (Bonita) of Harrodsburg; a step-son, Glen Gibson; a special friend, Jenny Turner; her children and granddaughter, Edith Draper (Alvin), Elbert Turner, and Lisa Turner, of California; several great nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Emma Shannon, Danville, and Lillie R. Johnson, Indianapolis, IN.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, J. W. Raines and Charles Raines, a sister, Jean Alice Trigg, and a nephew, Ronald C. Raines.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 5, at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Smith-Jackson Funeral Home in Danville was in charge of arrangements.
