Louis F. Simmins, 74, of Latonia, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. A son, Allan J. Simmins, died in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Simmins; Robert L. Simmins of Dayton, Edward J. Simmins of Monument, Colo., Thomas C. Simmins of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and James D. Simmins of Hamilton, Ohio; a daughter, Mary Louise Spencer of Castle Rock, Colo.; a brother, Bob Simmons of Cresson, Pa.; a sister, Ruth Lavery of Boonetown, N.J.; and 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were today at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Burial was in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright.

Lauretta Sullivan, 75, of Florence, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Sarah "Marie" Vaughn, 93, of Florence, died at 11:25 a.m. Sunday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Covington. Her husband, Lester Vaughn, died in 1972. A daughter, Roberta McNesse, died in 1971.
Survivors include a son, Roscoe Vaughn of Covington; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to Hope, Cooner, Bradley Fund of the nursing home, 7300 Woodspoint Drive, Florence 41042.

Florence R. Wilson, 82, of Erlanger, died Monday at University Hospital, Cincinnati, of injuries suffered in an auto accident. She was a retired bookbinder and a member of Florence United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Howard R. Wilson; a daughter, Joyce E. Bonar of Erlanger; a son, Carl M. Wilson of Burlington; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church's new location, 8585 Old Toll Road, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the church building fund. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron, is handling arrangements.

George Balz Jr., Hebron pharmacist
George W. Balz Jr. and his late wife, Irene, operated a pharmacy in Hebron for 38 years.
Mr. Balz, 87, of Ripley, Ohio, formerly of Hebron, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at Ohio Valley Nursing Home in Ripley.
He was a retired pharmacist and owner of Balz Pharmacy in Hebron. His wife died Nov. 3, 1996.
Mr. Balz graduated from Cincinnati College of Pharmacy in 1937 and worked at a Covington pharmacy until it was sold. Then he and his wife opened Balz Pharmacy, living in an apartment above the business.
"Everybody really liked George," said a sister-in-law, Jo Balz of Georgetown, Ohio. "He was really helpful to his customers."
Mr. Balz filled prescriptions while his wife worked in the store.
"It was definitely a mom-and-pop store," Jo Balz said.
The store closed in 1984.
Mr. Balz enjoyed fishing and, in later years, walking at Florence Mall, where he visited with friends.
He celebrated his 87th birthday at a party Sunday.
Survivors include a sister, Eloise Balz of Ft. Mitchell; and a brother, Charles R. Balz Sr. of Georgetown, Ohio.

Ruth Arnold, 65, of Alexandria, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a cashier and cook with Campbell County Schools and a member of St. Mary Church, Alexandria.
Survivors include her husband, Richard J. Arnold; a son, Rick Arnold of Alexandria; and sisters, Imogene Anders of Ft. Thomas and Verna Simon of Ft. Thomas.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.

Martha F. Beck, 82, of Covington, died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. She was a housekeeper with St. Luke Hospital West, Florence, and a member of Grace Church, Covington.
Survivors include a sister, Doretta Symes of Covington.

Robert H. Denniston, 76, of Belleview, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home. He was a retired lockman with the Army Corps of Engineers and a member of Belleview Church of Christ, where he was an elder. He was a former member of Belleview McVille Volunteer Fire Department and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay Batchelor Denniston; sons, Robby Denniston of Union and Mike Denniston of Florence; brothers, Wilbur Denniston of Edgewood and Ray Denniston of Higginsport, Ohio; a sister, Kathryn Ogden of Florence; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Belleview Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church.

James Marshall Engle, 72, of Silver Springs, Md., formerly of Newport, died May 31 in Silver Springs. He was a retired Newport police captain.
Survivors include a daughter, Denette Hales of Ashton, Md.; sisters, Shirley Rosteck of Ft. Thomas and Thelma McClanahan of Highland Heights; and one grandchild.

Richard Elmer Feldhaus, 78, of Florence, died at 12:29 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with Ohio Operating Engineers Union Local No. 18, Cincinnati, and a member of Elsmere Baptist Church. He was a member of Good Faith Masonic Lodge No. 95 F&AM, Erlanger, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Eileen Belew Feldhaus; a daughter, Judith Bullock of Burlington; a brother, George Feldhaus of Erlanger; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Wade C. Gibson Jr., 43, of Williamstown, died at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday at his home of cancer. He was a machinist with Meyer Tool Co., Cincinnati, and a member of First Baptist Church of Springdale in Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Carpenter Gibson; sons, William Louis Iha and Matthew Gibson, both of Florence, and Wade Gibson III of Holbrook; daughters, Theresa Ryan of Cincinnati, Christine Bates of Decatur, Ill., and Deborah Smith of Warsaw; his parents, Elizabeth Hodges and Wade C. Gibson Sr. of Greenhills, Ohio; sisters, Theresa Lewallen, Dori Schoenig and Gloria Gibson, all of Greenhills; a grandmother, Viola Hodges of Hurricane, W.Va.; and eight grandchildren.

Juanita Kelly Myers, 60, of Maysville, died Tuesday at Columbia Hospital in Maysville. She was a beautician and a past president of Maysville VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Maysville Eagles and Moose lodges, and Disabled American Veterans in Ripley, Ohio.

Glenn Irby Schmidt, 27, of Covington, died at 4 a.m. Saturday at University Hospital, Cincinnati, of a stab wound.
Survivors include his father, Emil Schmidt of Ft. Wright; sons, Glenn Schmidt and Chris Schmidt, both of Covington; brothers, Emil Schmidt, Terry Schmidt and Aaron Schmidt, all of Covington, and Melvin Schmidt of Petersburg; and a sister, Edna M. Schmidt of Ft. Wright.
