She was the wife of Jack Ryan, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Rastie and Evelyn Gash Brown. Additional survivors besides her husband include: five sons: Norman (Norma) Ryan, Harrodsburg, David (Helen) Ryan, Stanford, Ricky Ryan, Harrodsburg, Timmy (Dolly) Ryan, Stanford and Gary (Pam) Ryan, Harrodsburg; two daughters: Darlene (Roy) Watts, Salvisa and Sharon (Bill) Price, Danville; twenty-two grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by two children: B.B. Ryan and Jackie Ryan and one brother: Billy Brown.

She was a co-owner of Ryan’s Grocery Store, a member of Glennsboro Baptist Church and enjoyed working and painting.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2005 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Andy Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with B.J. Price, Gary Ryan, II, Ricky Dale Ryan, II, Daniel Ryan, Jr., John Rasty Ryan and David Ryan, Jr. serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday and after 7:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

She was the wife of J.C. Catlett and the daughter of the late Tom & Mae Claunch Claunch. Additional survivors besides her husband include: one son: Bruce (Freda) Catlett, Harrodsburg, one sister: Hattie (Charles) McMurry, Harrodsburg; one brother: Marvin (Helen) Claunch, Harrodsburg; one granddaughter: Scarlett (Brad) Ingram, Harrodsburg; two great-granddaughters: Hannah and Kellie Ingram and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother: Jakie Claunch.

She was a member of Benton Baptist Church where she was a former Adult Ladies Sunday School Teacher, an avid quilter and a retired Genesco Plant employee.

She was born May 2nd 1909 in Mackville, Washington County, Kentucky. Descended from some of the earliest English settlers in Kentucky she was a lifelong Kentucky resident, moving to Florida from Louisville in 2001 to be near her daughters. She graduated from Rose Hill High School (1928) and, as a Teacher, from Nazareth College in Louisville (1955).

She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Mercer County Kentucky, where, among many others, she taught all of her brothers and sisters. Later, she taught school in Louisville at Semple Elementary, Jacob Elementary, and fifth Grade at Beechmont Elementary School, where she retired in 1974. In 1992, Governor Paul E. Patton honored her for her lifelong commitment to teaching and her positive influence on many young lives. She was a member of the Beechmont Baptist Church in Louisville, the Beechmont Women’s Club, Spalding University Alumni Association, Jefferson County Retired Teacher’s Association, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Noel of Louisville; her Parents, Ezra Tatum, Sr. and Lillie Alice Tatum (ne: Click) of Mercer County; two sisters who died in childhood; three nephews; and many dear friends. She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Ann Tatum Davis of Estero, Florida; Mrs. Gloria Hughes Franklin of Orlando Florida; four Grandchildren, Mr. Christopher Hughes of Hendersonville North Carolina; Mrs. Dawn Davis Laubheimer of Fort Meyers, Florida; Ms. Wendy Hughes of Atlanta, Georgia; Mr. Scott Davis of Estero Florida; and her great grandson, Seth Laubheimer. She is also survived by five brothers and sisters, Mrs, Lillie J. Camden of Lexington; Mrs. Beatrice Russell of Bardstown; Mrs. Jewell Best of Rose Hill; Mr. Willie Tatum of Bowling Green; Mr. Ezra Tatum, Jr. of Harrodsburg; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was a Christian who lived her faith, and now resides in peace with her heavenly father. Her faith, will, indomitable spirit, and her keen sense of humor were ever-present in her life. By these, she partook of the many joys and triumphs of her long and rich life, and prevailed against adversities that might have deterred others.

Her children and family will miss her always, for she brought great joy, laughter, unconditional love, and support to our lives. She was a wonderful mother and she adored her grandchildren. Those who knew and loved her are grateful and thankful for the gift of her influence on our lives. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 22, 2005, from11:00AM to 12:00 Noon, followed by Funeral Services at, 2:00 PM, at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Kentucky. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery. Arrangements will be handled by Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home, Harrodsburg, Kentucky, (859) 734-3361, or (800) 928-3361.

She was the daughter of the late William H. and Dora Florence Lambdin Jones. She was the widow of Hobert Lee Jackson and James S. Gibson. Survivors include: two sons: Kenneth Eugene Jackson and his wife, Lee Ora, Harrodsburg and James Ralph “Rusty” Jackson and his wife Mary M., Versailles and one daughter: Dora Lee Higginbotham and her husband, Michael, Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren and her special friend, Nellie Turner. She was preceded in death by one daughter Kathleen “Kitty” Guthrie.

She was a retired James B. Haggin dietician and self-employed merchant. She was a member of Ellers Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and quilting.

Thomas, Taylor
May 20, 1951 - November 13, 2005

He was the son of the late James Taylor and the late Della Holt Johnson. Survivors include: three sons: Tommy Taylor of Somerset, Thomas Taylor of New York and Brandon Taylor of Lawrenceburg; two daughters: Amanda Coots of Big Laurel, Kentucky and Susan Taylor of New York; his twin brother: John Taylor of Somerset and one sister: Dora Mae Wright of Frankfort. He was preceded in death by one sister: Josephine Brewer.

He was a truck driver, a member of the Tyrone Baptist Church and he enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.

Daisy Marcum Clark, 80, formerly of Mooreland Avenue, the widow of Asher Marcum and Francis Clark, died Sunday, January 29, 2006 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born January 18, 1926 in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Ollie Doyle n. She was a homemaker, a member of the Mayo Christian Church. She enjoyed quilting many beautiful quilts that her family will enjoy for generations.

Mrs. Clark is survived by her son Cecil Carson Marcum of Harrodsburg; three daughters: Theresa Ann (David) Sparks of Lexington, Lorraine (Larry M.) Baker of Lexington, and Judy (William Frank) Giles of Stamping Ground. One brother Preston Allen of Las Vegas, and one sister Bessie Allen of Harrodsburg. Her granddaughter she raised Mary Carr of Lexington, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by one son Russell Marcum.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2006 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Larry Peyton officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Church of Christ Cemetery with Carlos Broce, Jr., Steve Broce, Mary Carr, John Broce, Michael Gullett, Russell Lynn Marcum, and Daisy Bradshaw serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Robert “Bob” Wesley Anderson 74, husband of Margaret Hatfield Anderson of Bohon died Monday January 23, 2006 at his residence. He was born August 17, 1931 in Garrard County to the late Edward and Ida Poiyter Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a retired employee of Kentucky Department of Highways. He was member of Hopewell Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and University of Kentucky sports.

Additional survivors include one son Ronald “Rusty” Russell Anderson and his wife Mary of Mercer County. One daughter Robin Jo Burkhead and husband Freddie of Roebuck, SC. Three sisters Burdetta Trent and husband Charles of Danville, Pairie Yates and husband Gordon of Danville and Mary Boyd of Lancaster. Three grandsons Jason Lane Burkhead, Wesley Blake Anderson and Brandon Anderson. One step granddaughter Nina Case and husband Donnie. Two step great grandchildren Nikki and Kimber Reynolds. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Three brothers Virgil, James, and Leslie Anderson and one sister Shirley Hall preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday January 26, 2006 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Burkhead and Rodney Thompson officiating. Pallbearers will be Jason Burkhead, Wesley Anderson, Brandon Anderson, Michael Stevens, David Stevens and Phillip Stevens. Interment will be in Paint Lick Cemetery in Garrard County.

Visitation 5:00 – 9:00 P.M. Wednesday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home and 7:00 A.M. Thursday until the hour of service at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Slone, Ella Mae

April 08, 1916 - January 19, 2006

Mrs. Ella Mae Slone, 89, widow of John Slone, died Thursday January 19, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born April 8, 1916 in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Beatley Spaulding. She was a member of the Hill Crest Baptist Church in Lexington. Survivors include one daughter Sara Blakeman of Lexington, three grandsons: Michael Lowery of Jeffersonville, IN., Dan Blakeman of Lexington and Todd Blakeman also of Lexington. Four great-grandchildren: Tim Vickery, Corey Blakeman, Tia Blakeman, and Krystina Blakeman. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2006 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Bro. Lewis Walter officiating. No visitation will be held. Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in Harrodsburg in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Opal Hockensmith, age 84, widow of Onie Hockensmith died Saturday January 14, at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. She was born December 8, 1921 in Woodford County to the late Nealy and Debbie Floren McDaniel. A former nursing assistant at the Kentucky State Hospital, she and her husband owned and operated Hockensmith Grocery in Burgin for 16 years. She was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, cross word puzzles, reading her Bible, and being an avid U. K. sports fan.

Survivors include two sons Ronnie Hockensmith and his wife Linda of Harrodsburg. Phillip Hockensmith and his wife Dee Dee of Mercer County. Three daughters Doris Bugg and husband Don of Burgin. Sue Lewis and husband Richard of Mercer County. Debbie Pinkston and husband John of Mercer County. Ten grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, one half sister Christine Baker of Versailles, three half-brothers: William McDaniel of Versailles, Sterling McDaniel of Lawrenceburg, and Leonard McDaniel of Georgetown.

One sister Catherine Hockensmith, and one half-brother Eugene McDaniel preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday January 17, 2006 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Geoff Barrett officiating. Interment will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Chad Pinkston, Shawn Hockensmith, Phillip Hockensmith, II, Justin Lilly, Blake Sexton, and Michael Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Sexton and Jeremy Phillips.

Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. Monday and after 7:00 A.M. Tuesday until the hour of service at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Born October 16, 1910 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late James M. and Claudia Yocum Cornish. She had worked at the Commodity House, Arnold’s Florist & Greenhouse, was a farmer, a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and flowers.

Survivors include: two grandchildren: Kathleen Luttrell, Harrodsburg and Tom Drury, Lexington; one great-granddaughter: Victoria Everman; one sister: Dorothy Martin, Danville; one sister-in-law: Ina Cornish, Harrodsburg; five nieces: Janice Hughes, Frankie Sims, Donna Martin, Erline Dunn, Mary Emily Wheeler and Jean Drury, one nephew: Bruce Martin and her friend and caretaker: John Burks, Harrodsburg. She was preceded in death by one son: Dale Stumph; one brother: William Cornish and one sister: Tava Hendren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday January 10, 2006 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Visitation will begin after 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lela F. Brumback, 76, of Mooreland Avenue, Harrodsburg, widow of Elder Brumback, Jr., died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at the Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, TN. Born September 3, 1929 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Ethel VanArsdall Peavler. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. Mrs. Brumback retired after having worked at Kroger for Forty-Two Years. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with others, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters: Toni (Robert) Brumback Preston of Harrodsburg, Cherie Lynn (Robert) Clark of Harrodsburg, and Tammie (Stephen) Brumback Mann of Nashville, TN. Five grandchildren: Whitnie Clark, Bobby Clark, Abbie Clark, Ryan Mann, and Sean Mann. Three sisters: Imogene (James) Carey of Harrodsburg, Doris (Don) Freeman of Lexington, and Elizabeth Disponett of Lexington. One aunt Elsie Pinkston of Harrodsburg also survives. She was preceded in death by her brother J.P. Peavler.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church with Dr. Robert DeFoor, Rev. Wayne Smith, and Rob Clark officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Jim Davis, Jim Underwood, J.W. Logue, Andrew Alexander, John Wayne Peavler, and Freddie Peavler serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Clark, Ryan Mann, and Sean Mann.

Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, P.O. Box 286, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.
