Harvey D. Duncan, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2006. He was a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church for over Fifty Years serving as deacon, trustee, treasurer, song leader, and teacher. He served three years in the South Pacific in the United States Army during World War II. He was a farmer, carpenter, and avid fisherman. He retired from the E.W. Brown Power Plant after twenty-five years of employment.

Born in Garrard County on October 13, 1923, he was the son of the late Jesse L. and Mary Preston Duncan. He is survived by his wife of Fifty-Nine Years Juanita Carter Duncan; four children: Brenda (Bill) Ray of Harrodsburg, Patricia G. “Pat” (Ronnie) Short of Junction City, Donnie (Kathy) Duncan of Harrodsburg, Sherri Williams also of Harrodsburg and Tammy (Eddie) Jenkins, his granddaughter whom he raised as his own, of Harrodsburg. Nine other grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and one brother Bill Duncan of Nicholasville also survive. He was preceded in death by six sisters.

Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church. Burial will be in Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday and from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home and after 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Family Life Center Building Fund, c/o Shawnee Run Baptist Church, 1486 Shakertown Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

Nicely, Joyce

Mrs. Joyce Nicely, 72, of Hughley Lane, wife of Elzie Nicely died Friday, December 23, 2005 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born March 10, 1933 in Lily, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Emmert Hobson and Laura Belle Harris Woodward. She was a retired Key Punch Operator and Office Worker for Chevron Corporation. She was a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church, the W.M.U., a former member of the Eastern Star, and she enjoyed sewing, crafts, and quilting.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Nicely is survived by her son Daniel (Joan) Nicely of Louisville and one daughter Pam (Doug) McIntosh of Richmond. Her special friend Sharon (Travis) Rose of Richmond, one granddaughter Michelle McIntosh of Richmond, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by one son Quinnen Bellou, three brothers: Billy Wayne Woodward, Emmert Hobson Woodward, Jr., and Cecil Randall Woodward, and one sister Janice Ann Woodward.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church with Bro. Ralph Neal and Bro. Lester Tirey officiating. Burial will be in McHargue Cemetery in Laurel County.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home, and after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Shawnee Run Baptist Church Building Fund, 1490 Shakertown Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

Barnett, Helen

She was the widow of Earl R. Barnett, Jr. Mrs. Barnett is survived by her son Michael Lynn Barnett of Mercer County, one sister Artie Sheperson of Harrodsburg. Jordan Young, Braden Young, and Kristin Roution were loved by Mrs. Barnett as though they were her own grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister Virginia Currens and three brothers: Joe David Sallee, William Sallee, and James Sallee.

Born September 30, 1931 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Beulah Moore Sallee. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2005 at the Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. David Culp and Bro. Jack Geurin officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Fallis, Anna Belle Sims

Mrs. Anna Belle Sims Fallis, of Sugar Street, Salvisa, widow of Howard Fallis, Sr., died Friday December 16, 2005 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born July 24, 1912 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Alvin L. and Nellie Gibson Sims. She was a homemaker, a member of the Salvisa Christian Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for over Fifty Years and also as a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Salvisa Homemakers Club and an avid reader.

Mrs. Fallis is survived by her daughter: Geraldine S. Green and her husband W. C. Green of Versailles and one son Howard Mitchell and his wife Charlotte Fallis, Jr. of Salvisa. One sister Christine Broughton of Ohio, six grandchildren: Mark Green, Kevin Green, Sean Green, Wendy Runnion, Mitzi Fallis, and Kirk Fallis. Seven great-grandchildren, one cousin and two nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2005 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bill Mounts and Vicki Ray officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Mark Green, Kevin Green, Sean Green, Kirk Fallis, Mark Runnion, Wayne Broughton, and Kenneth Taylor serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and after 7:00 a.m. Sunday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

She was the daughter of the late Fredrick Alexander and Carolyn Baker Forsythe. She was a retired retail clerk and a member of the Church of The Good Shepherd. She attended the University of Kentucky, adored classical music, was a sport enthusiast and was a descendant of Robert McAfee, one of the original settlers of Kentucky with James Harrod. She was the widow of Stanley Chapin.

Survivors include: one daughter: Leslie Chapin Camara and her husband, Richard of San Francisco, California; one sister: Barbara Forsythe Zambri of Monroe, New Jersey; two grandchildren: Laura Camara of San Francisco, California and Mark Camara of Dublin, California. She was preceded in death by one son: Gary Chapin and two brothers: Sidney and Donald Forsythe.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home, with Matthew Atha officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

She was the widow of Linzie Thomas Coffman. She was the daughter of the late John Edward Martin and Sarah Elizabeth Meece Bertram. Survivors include: two sons: Ronnie Thomas (Donna) Coffman, Harrodsburg and Charles James (Tina) Coffman, Lawrenceburg; five daughters: Florence “Cookie” Elizabeth (Billy) Conner, Burgin, Shelia Diane (Terry) Parnell, Harrodsburg, Angela Gail Renfro, Ocala, Florida, Sandra Renee (Danny) Johnson, Lexington and Connie Lynn (Darty) Hart, Harrodsburg; one sister: Maxine Bertram Coffman, Junction City; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one grandchild: Brandie Nacole Richardson and several brothers and sisters.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Harrodsburg Church of God and attended the Mitchellsburg Church of God.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2005 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Holbrook and Bro. Larry Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Billy Conner, Jr., Thomas Coffman, Jr., Chris Cooper, Roger Dale Lupson, II, Steven Lupson and Martin Abrams, Jr. serving as pallbearers and great-grandchildren serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Higginbotham, Jerry

He was the husband of Donna Thompson Higginbotham and the son of the late Carl and Julia Ross Higginbotham. Besides his wife, Jerry is survived by his two daughters: Tammy Higginbotham Nichols of Danville and Carla Higginbotham of Lancaster. One brother Michael Higginbotham of Harrodsburg, two grandchildren: Nathan and Kirsten Nichols.

He was a retired machinist for Universal Fasteners, a member of the Harrodsburg Church of Christ and the National Rifleman’s Association. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting coins and knives.

Benge, John Kenneth

John Kenneth Benge, Jr., 53 of Liberty Road, Lexington, died April 7, 2006 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington. Born July 4, 1952 in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he was the son of John Kenneth Benge, Sr. of Mercer County and the late Mary Helen Montgomery Benge.

He was a retired Counter Intelligence Agent with the United States Army. He was a Baptist, enjoyed woodworking, and portrait painting

Besides his father, survivors include two sons: Ian Benge of Silver City, New Mexico, and Lee Benge and his wife Crystal also of Silver City, New Mexico. One daughter Melanie Guarino of Danville, two brothers: Ronald Benge of Sacramento, CA, and James Benge of Minneapolis, MN. One sister; Carolyn Benge of Mercer County, his former wife Sandy Mastin of Danville, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one sister Laura James.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. David Culp officiating. Burial with military Honors will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County. Ian Benge, Lee Benge, Jeremy Curnuti, Michael Guarino, and Kenny James will serve as pallbearers.

She was the daughter of the late Fred and Effie Mae Yeaste Shewmaker. Survivors include: one daughter: Mae Rue Burns, Lexington; one son: Fred Reid Burns, Lexington; two sisters: Rosella Lawson and her husband, Marvin, Harrodsburg and Elva Oldham, Harrodsburg; one grandchild: Meredith Rue Burns, Lexington and a special friend: Alison Kae Hiler, Lexington. She was preceded in death by one brother: Merlin Shewmaker, one sister: Ethia Bussell, and her husband of 38 years: Norvia Rue Burns.

She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lexington. She had taught clogging and line dancing for a number of years, enjoyed square dancing, was a member of the Thoroughbred Square Dance Club and the Rhythm Rounds and also enjoyed bowling, golf and crafts.

He was the husband of Alma Darland Black, the son of the late William Clay and Maude Johnson Black. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Donna Black Bell and her husband Ray of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Gayle Black, Shirley Horn and one grandson: Harold Dewayne Horn.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.

He was a retired DryWall Contractor and a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and sang with the Pioneer Quartet. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and a former staff member of Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 4 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Walter officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Keith McDonald, Ross Bell, Marion Howard, John Stomberger, Bryan Horn, and Ronnie Black serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be James Merchant, Bryant Merchant, John Gumm, James Grimes, Ed Hudson, and Harry Harmon.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
