Edmund Carter, 86, widower of Marion Thompson Carter and Evelyn Patricia Carter died December 17, 2006 at his residence in Harrodsburg. Born June 3, 1920 in Montreal Quebec, Canada he was the son of the late Edmund and Catherine Noremac Carter. He was a retired Hall Mack Industrial Engineer, had served in the Canadian Army from 1939 – 1945 and was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. He enjoyed traveling and doing cross word puzzles.

Survivors include one son, Glenn Carter and his wife Kathy, Harrodsburg; one brother, Lindsey Carter, Canada; two sisters: Gloria Ryan and Margaret Carter, both of Canada; four grandchildren: Diane Adkins, Anthony Dennis, Mikki Carter and Erica Wilcher and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Keith Cameron Carter and one sister, Shirley Cadeux.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday with Father Danny Schwendemen officiating in the Spring Hill Cemetery with burial to follow. There will be no visitation.

Richard Jones, 46, husband of Traci Howard Jones died Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born September 28, 1960 in Harrodsburg he was the son of Dalton and Brenda Noel Jones, Harrodsburg and Bonnie Cowan Lay, Delray Beach, Florida. He was a Hitachi Automotive Material Handler and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and enjoyed Harley Davidson’s, fishing and gardening.

Additional survivors besides his wife and parents include one son, Derek Scott Jones, Harrodsburg; one brother: Barry Jones, Harrodsburg; three sisters: Lisa (Andy) Wik, Deerfield Beach, Florida, Kim Russell, Harrodsburg and Janet (Keith) Vivian, Georgetown and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Burkhead, Mike Baker and Gary Baker officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with Ken Pankow, William Madden, Tim Sallee, Kevin Horn, Jeff Greer, William Rogers, Mike Hale, Scott Beavers and James Taylor serving as pallbearers and members of Hopewell Baptist Church Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home and after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Alice Devine, 87, widow of George Thomas “Toddy” Devine, died December 11, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor. Born February 9, 1919 in Mercer County she was the daughter of the late Joe and Georgia Matherly Wilham. She was a retired Cricketeer Examiner and was presently a member of Ellers Memorial Baptist Church and a former member of Benton Baptist Church where she had been a Sunday School Teacher and pianist. Survivors include: one son: J.L. Devine and his wife, Betty, Harrodsburg; one grandson: Richard Todd Devine, Monroe, Tennessee; and one great-granddaughter: Tabitha Thomas Devine, Harrodsburg. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2006 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial will be in Patterson Cemetery with Oscar J. Bailey, Kyle Bailey, Larry Wilham, Mickey Gilliand, Tony Best and Mike Hudson serving as pallbearers.

Debra V. Morris, 42, Lexington, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at her residence. Born May 17, 1964 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Charles T. and Jo Ann Absher Venters. She was a homemaker who enjoyed arts and crafts, fishing, gardening and water sports.

Survivors include: one son: Christopher Morris, Lexington; one brother: Chuck Venters, Nicholasville; one sister: Suzie Hatfield, Burgin; two grandchildren and four nieces.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2006 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret Ruth Vaughn Lowery, 94, widow of Eddie Lee Lowery, died Saturday, November 25, 2006 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born December 13, 1911 in Georgetown, she was the daughter of the late William and Rose Bell Henry Vaughn. She was a homemaker, and a loyal faithful member of Cornishville Christian Church

Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: John, James and Joseph Vaughn and one sister: Rosa Mae Vaughn Martin.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Leonard Price and Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial will be in the Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery with Elwood Collier, Darren Sims, Terry Coslow, Roger Atwell, Archie Britton and Hughes Coslow serving as pallbearers and Bonnie Mae Sartin, Arzie Byrd, Maxine Byrd and Emanuel J. Rodoussakis serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 12:00 Noon Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Carlettia Mae Francis, 60, of Cornishville Road, wife of Troy Francis, died Thursday, November 23, 2006. Born October 16, 1946 in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Hazel Radcliff Dunn. She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Carlettia enjoyed working with pottery, ceramics, and flowers.

Besides her husband, Carlettia is survived by four sons: Victor Leon (Martha) Francis of Versailles, Mark Douglas (Tonya) Francis of Harrodsburg, John Keith Francis of Harrodsburg, and Joey Francis also of Harrodsburg. One daughter Mary Lee (Matthew) McGinnis of Harrodsburg, four brothers: Donnie Dunn of Middletown, OH, Junior (June) Dunn of Harrodsburg, Ronald Dunn of Middletown, OH., and Roger Dunn also of Middletown, OH. Eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by three sisters: Juanita Miller, Minnie Channey, and Brenda Morton, and one brother Bobby Dunn.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Harley Humfleet officiating. Burial will be in the Reed Family Cemetery, Magoffin County with Clayton Francis, Michael Gullett, James Gullett, Christopher Richardson, Chris Gullett and Jeffrey Bradshaw serving as pallbearers and Matthew L. Francis and Tristan McGinnis serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hazel Shanahan Boswell, 83, of Harrodsburg, widow of Edwin Boswell, died Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born December 11, 1922 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Myrtle Northcutt Shanahan. She was retired from Cricketeer after thirty years, was a member of Berea Christian Church, had cared for children in her home for twenty years, and enjoyed sewing.

Survivors include two daughters: Diana Hilvers of Bradenton, FL, and Donna (Larry) Stinnett of Harrodsburg. One sister, Mrs. Annabel Shanahan Miller of Louisville, four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren three nieces and two nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her brother Thomas L. Shanahan.

Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 25 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Eddie Hudson, Dean Lewis, Larry Stinnett, Jr., Nicholas Stinnett, Ricky Stinnett, and John Brandon serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday and after 7:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

Thelma White, 73, Danville, widow of Giles White, Sr., died Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born June 19, 1933 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Martin Wray. Survivors include: two sons: Giles White, Jr. and his wife, Loretta, Stanford and Maurice White, Harrodsburg; two daughters: Barbara Burchette, Danville and Judy Whitaker and her husband, Mark, Lawrenceburg; two sisters: Faye Wray White, Harrodsburg, and Nancy Wray Stamper, Danville; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Thelma Irene Wren; one sister: Elma Wray and three brothers: Benny Wray, Billy Wray, Jr., and James Allen Wray.

Ms. Elizabeth “Beth” Dell Taylor, 35, of Owosso, Michigan, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, November 6, 2006 at the Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI. Born June 30, 1971 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Kenneth Ray and Phyllis Dell Warner Taylor. She was Music Teacher at the Marshall School of Music.

After graduating from Mercer County High School in 1989, Beth went on to the University of Kentucky where she played saxophone in the Marching Band and several Jazz Bands. An accomplished composer and saxophonist, Beth was more recently a member of the Lansing Concert Band, the Lansing Swing Band and numerous theatrical productions.

Besides her parents, Beth is survived by her maternal grandmother Garnetta Warner of Harrodsburg and her aunt Elizabeth Souleyrette of Burgin. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Marvin and Alma Taylor and her maternal grandfather Marcus Warner.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2006 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Porter officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Marshall Sims, Jr., Brian Sims, Tommy Crawford, Howard Fallis, Wayne Broughton, William Lawson Taylor,Jr., and Mark Harlow serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dewayne Whitaker, C.M. Shewmaker, and Betty Ann Shewmaker.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9 and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Harrison Leroy Spaulding, 51, husband of Alana Peavler Spaulding, Harrodsburg, died Friday, November 3, 2006 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born October 31, 1955 in Frankfort, he was the son of Jessie “Fuzz” and Alline Kinder Spaulding of Harrodsburg.

He was employed at OSRAM Sylvania in Versailles, a member of the Cornishville Christian Church and attended the Joseph’s Chapel Methodist Church. Harrison was a U.K. Basketball Fan, an avid softball player and sports enthusiast.

Besides his wife and parents, Harrison is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Jessie Spaulding (Will) Carlton of Harrodsburg, one sister: Tammy (Steve) Darland of Harrodsburg, and two nephews: Steven Christopher and Eric Clayton Darland both of Harrodsburg. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 6 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Gill Duffy officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, November 5 and after 7:00 a.m. Monday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
