Edwin Sallee, Jr., 61, of Cardinal Avenue, Harrodsburg died Monday, March 19, 2007 at his residence. Born September 4, 1946 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Edwin and Ella Peavler Sallee, Sr. He was retired from IBM. Survivors include his wife Beverly Dean Sallee of Harrodsburg and two sons: Scott Sallee of Perryville and Nic Sallee of Harrodsburg. A private graveside service will be held at Spring Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. May Sanders Burchell 89, widow of David Lawson Burchell of Burgin, died Friday March 16, 2007 at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. She was born May 29, 1917 in Mercer County to the late Rome and Sally Springate Sanders. Mrs. Burchell was a member of Burgin Baptist Church.

Survivors include one step daughter Mrs. Dottie Burchell Sims (David) of Burgin. A twin sister Mrs. Garnett (Fay) Wilham of Covington. Two step granddaughters Cheryl (Barry) Currens and Lou Anne (Tom) Ison both of Harrodsburg. Three step great granddaughters LauraLee (Chris) Long of Harrodsburg, Lyndsey (Jason) Brinegar of Lexington and Kasey (Aaron) Satterly of Harrodsburg. Three step great great grandchildren Dylyn Brinegar and Gabriella Brinegar of Lexington, and Izaiah Satterly of Harrodsburg, one sister-in-law Pearl (J.C) Stine of Lawrenceburg, KY, and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister Nancy West and four brothers Hollie, Frank, Bill and Henry Sanders.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday March 19, 2007 at 2:30 P.M. at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home by David and Bonnie Woodward. Interment will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Barry Currens, Tom Ison, Chris Long, Jason Brinegar and Aaron Satterly. Honorary pallbearers will be Leo and Carolyn Wilham, Ron and Bobbie Wilham, Ted and Bonnie Wilham, Patsy and Joe Keller, Peggy and Eddie Russell, Linda and Charlie McDaniel, Jimmy Sanders, Billy Mac and Rachael Sanders, Marie Blacketeer and John and Nancy Sanders.

Visitation 4:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. Sunday and after 7:00 A.M. Monday

Sparks, Clifton "Joe"

Clifton “Joe” Sparks, 88, died Thursday, March 15 at his residence. Born June 9, 1918, he was the son of the late Isaac and Ruth Smith Sparks. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Eva Adkins Sparks, his sons: Fred, Earl, Bob, Danny, Darrel, Charles, Ricky, John, and Jimmy Sparks and his daughters; Betty Hazel Butler, Margaret Greenlee, Peggy Martin, and Linda Sparks. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by one son Donald Sparks.

A private visitation and funeral service will be held. Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Born Feb. 26, 1927, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late George Ive and Mattie Jane Pearson Lambert. She was a former employee of Cricketeer and Mercer County Elementary School. She was the widow of Marion Estill Rogers, Sr.

Survivors include her son Marion E. (Sandy) Rogers, Jr. of Burgin; one granddaughter, Andrea Rogers of Burgin; two great-grandsons, Landon Rogers and Jason P. Carey, both of Burgin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death her daughter, Priscilla Gaye Rogers; five sisters, Rose Luzader, Myrtle B. Taylor, Bertha M. Lambert, Sarah E. Mowry and Florence Niemi; and three brothers, George B. Lambert, Clifford L.. Lambert and Earl L.. Lambert.

Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Monday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Greg Warren officiating. Burial will be in Grapevine Christian Church Cemetery with Bobby Taylor, Gene Taylor, Gordon Rondeau, Johnny Rogers, Ralph Rogers and Randall Rogers serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Owen Lambert, William David Rogers, Leonard Rogers, Jamie Rogers, Jim O'Nan, Franky Cannon, Donnie Mowry, Raymond Royalty and Kenneth Royalty.

Larry Arnold Poynter, 53, of New Dixville Road, husband of Marsha Glover Poynter died Thursday, March 8, 2007 at his residence. Born December 31, 1953 in Boyle County, he was the son of Jessie Irene Whitis Poynter of Harrodsburg and the late William Arnold Poynter. Larry was a Bindery Tech at R.R. Donnelley & Sons, was a U.S. Army Veteran, and loved gardening; especially growing flowers.

Besides his wife and mother, Larry is survived by his son Thomas Poynter of Stanford, two brothers: Lloyd Poynter and Steven Dale Poynter both of Harrodsburg and one sister Sheila Poynter of Harrodsburg. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Walter officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday and after 7:00 a.m. Monday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Reva Hall Christman, 90, widow of the late Lucien Christman died Monday, March 05, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born August 23, 1916 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late Medley Lee and Betty Brown Hall. She was a graduate of Burgin High School, had served as clerk for three years at the Burgin Post Office; also was employed four years as a file clerk with the Federal Government, Darnall General Hospital during World War II. She had a long time service of forty-two years with the Harrodsburg Herald, where she was proofreader for the Advertising Department and for the Job Printing Department; the buyer for the Furniture and Office Supply Store, which she along with Miss Hutton, Editor, opened in 1949; she also did the accounts payable ledger.

She was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church, and a Volunteer at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital, joining the Auxiliary when it was formed in 1992.

Survivors include a sister, Beatrice Foster, a nephew Jerry Lee Foster; two great nieces, Teresa Lee Foster Hicks; and Stacy Foster Bennett, three great-great nieces Morgan Hicks, Madison Hicks, and Cassy Bennett; and a great-great nephew Chance Bennett. She was preceded in death by a nephew Glenn Foster and a great nephew Stephen Foster.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rick Snyder officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Bellevue Cemetery, Danville.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Mercer Relay for Life, American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 411, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

Troy Wayne Taylor, 29, husband of Trisha Lee Drury Taylor, Salvisa, died Monday, March 5, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born August 25, 1977 in Mercer County, he was the son of Rita Shewmaker Taylor, Lexington and the late Harold Wayne Taylor. He was a United States Marine Veteran where he had served in Bosnia and was a letter carrier of the United States Postal Service. Additional survivors besides his wife and mother include two sons: Blake and Trevor Taylor, both of Salvisa; one brother: James Bast, Lexington; paternal grandmother: Beatrice Taylor, Harrodsburg; several cousins, aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with John David Lane officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Nancy Jean Oldham, 76, widow of William Frank Oldham, died Monday, February 19, 2007 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington. Born June 13, 1930 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late James and Delta Rae Drury Cammack. She was a laundry attendant at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters: Alice Boswell, Sandy Hook and Kay Underwood, Harrodsburg; three brothers: James Cammack, Willisburg, Jess Cammack, Louisville and Coy Cammack, Harrodsburg; two sisters: Elsie Coulter, Springfield and Betty Turner, Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Graham, Margie Thelma Colvin

Margie Thelma Graham, 96, of Harrodsburg, widow of Hubert Nelson Graham, died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Extended Care. Born January 15, 1911 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Luster and Myrtle Scott Colvin. She was a Bookkeeper and Co-Owner of Graham’s Cash Store and Graham’s General Supply in Mackville, was Accountant and Co-Owner of Eastern Wholesale Supply in Lexington, and was Secretary and Co-Owner of Sure Flame Gas Company in Springfield. She was a member of the Willisburg Baptist Church, a Fifty Year Member of Mercer County Homemakers, served as a Harrodsburg Band Parent-Mother, enjoyed quilting, growing roses, arts and crafts, basket weaving, and was an exceptional tailor and seamstress.

Survivors include two daughters: Marilyn Fern Gray of Harrodsburg and Margie Dianne (Ken) Thomas of Summerville, S.C. Three grandsons: Norman Bruce “Buck” (Julie) Graham, Jr. of Danville, Shawn Gray of Lexington, and William Montrose “Monty” (Laura Linn) Graham of Mobile, AL. One granddaughter Virginia Colvin “Ginny” (Bill) McDonald of Chicago, three step grandchildren: Angela Kaye (Adam) Burnett, John Perry (Sondra) Morton-Chaffin, and Leigh Ann (Rick) Potantus all of Nashville. Six great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her son Norman Bruce Graham, one sister Vivian Fern Colvin, and one brother Charles Colvin.

Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. J.W. Hatfield and her nephew Rev. Charles Scott Colvin officiating. Burial will be in Ever Green Cemetery in Willisburg with Shawn Gray, Buck Graham, Joe Colvin, Dudley Colvin, Ken Colvin, Charles Scott Colvin, James Arthur Graham, and Leland Graham serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack and Will Graham and Nursing Staff at James B. Haggin Extended Care.

Visitation will be after 5:00 p.m. Monday and after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to one’s favorite charity.

Mr. Warren Keith Carpenter 70, husband of the late Edna Claunch Carpenter of Louisville, died Sunday at Hospice & Palliative Care of Louisville. He was born June 6, 1936 in Washington County, KY to the late Hubert and Florence Rea Logue Carpenter. A retired manager for the U.S. Postal Service. A member of Shively Heights Baptist Church and a member of Harrodsburg and Lincoln County Historical Society. An avid fisherman, genealogist and historian. Survivors include on son Michael W. Carpenter Louisville. One brother McKinley Ray Carpenter Liberty. Three sisters Carolyn Horn Danville, Ina (Thomas) Russell Stanford and Mary Faye (Larry) Cannada Harrodsburg. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Two sons Gary Keith and Larry Warren Carpenter and one sister Norma Hope Carpenter preceded him in death. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Thursday May 30, 2007 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home by Bobby Logue and Steve James officiating. Interment will be Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mr. William Odell Hendren, 77, of Harrodsburg, husband of Betty Dixon Hendren, died Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born May 21, 1930 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Bermie and Muriel Robinson Hendren. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of the D.A.V., V.F.W., and American Legion. Mr. Hendren was retired from Square D after thirty years, was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors besides his wife include two step-sons: Jessie David Price of Danville and William Harold (Ava Lynn) Price of Junction City. One step-daughter Sharon Inez Price of Danville, one brother James Cornell (Arnetta) Hendren of Louisville, one sister Linda Sue Rogers of London, one uncle Mayford (Lucille) Hendren of Cuyahoga Falls, OH., one brother-in-law Wilbur Britton of Mercer County, , six step grandchildren: Jackie Ann (Phillip) Patterson of Hustonville, Brittany Nicole Price of Harrodsburg, Shawna Gullett of Boyle County, Chris Weldon of Junction City, Hannah Long of Junction City, and Ethan Long of Junction City, and three step great grandchildren: Victoria Weldon and Lance Weldon both of Junction City, and Tyler Patterson of Eubank and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday May 30, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with John Bailey officiating. Burial with military Honors will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Johnson, Bruce Board, Ronnie Dailey, Mike Riley, Alan Britton, and Jonathan Rogers serving as pallbearers. Allen Neal and Gary King will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association, c/o Mrs. Lou Bugg, P.O. Box 198, Burgin, KY 40310 and/or the Alzheimers Association, 3703 Taylorsville Road, Suite 102, Louisville, KY 40220-1330.
