Mr. James L. Doolin, 87, husband of Martha Sherrow Doolin, Harrodsburg, died Monday, August 13, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born May 18, 1920 in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Jessie and Susan Elizabeth Strong Doolin. He was a retired Standard Products machine operator and was a self employed farmer until 1981. He was a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Norwood, OH. In August of 1953 he was saved, in 1962 he was ordained as a Baptist Minister at the Grace Baptist Church in Danville. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and enjoyed farming and crafts.

Additional survivors besides his wife include: one son: Jessie Ronald Doolin and his wife, Wilma of Harrodsburg; one daughter: Deborah Ruth Mitchell of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren: James Ronald Doolin, Michelle Lynn Doolin, Sara Ashley Doolin, Heather Nicole Neighbors and Marlena Lynnette Reed; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother: Charlie Doolin of Cynthiana; three sisters: Virginia Riley of Temple, Georgia, Grace Graham of Lexington, Betty Noe of Nicholasville, and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother: Jessie Claude Doolin.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Gadd and Bro. John Haynes officiating. Burial with military Honors will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with James Doolin, Justin Doolin, Joe Doolin, Wayne Doolin, Jimmy Doolin and Brian Neighbors serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

James E. Riley, 78, died Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born October 20, 1928 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Lafayette and Alma Sanders Riley. He was a Reed’s Horse Service truck driver and a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Survivors include his niece Rose Grider and friends of Cardinal Meadows. He was preceded in death by his sister, Reva Pelley. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Joe Sanders, Roy Lee Sanders, Jackie Riley, Lee Sanders and Larry Sanders serving as pallbearers. Junior Lee Turner, 65, husband of Betty Rose Turner, Harrodsburg, died Monday, July 30, 2007 at his residence. Born September 9, 1941 in Somerset, he was the son of the late Albert and Nonie Price Turner. He had worked 23 years with Cudahay, 8 years with Dairymen and 12 years at Dairy Queen. He enjoyed hunting, fishing gardening and was an avid fan of television westerns. Additional survivors besides his wife include: two sons: Terry Lee Turner and his wife, Stephanie of Harrodsburg, and Robert Charles Hayes of Harrodsburg; one daughter: Vickie Carol Arnold of Harrodsburg; four sisters: Evelyn Bush of Harrodsburg, Betty Jean Sears of Burgin, Sue Harrison of Harrodsburg and Violet Hafley of Mitchellsburg; four brothers: John Turner of Texas, Wilburn Turner of Harrodsburg, Lavonnie Turner of Missouri and Odell Turner of Ohio; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers: James and Louie J. Turner and one sister: Christine Mize. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Stuart Holt officiating.

Burkhead, Betty

Betty Burkhead, 68, New Castle, formerly of Harrodsburg, widow of Leon Burkhead, died Monday, July 30, 2007 at the Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville. Born February 9, 1939 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Hattie Quinn Lyons. She was a homemaker and a member of Dry Branch Baptist Church. Survivors include: one sister: Myrtle Lewis, Harrodsburg and one half-sister: Addie Bea Moberly, New Castle. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Elmer Pulliam and Charlie Lyons and two sisters: Sarah Pittman and Gladys Thornton. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Ira Martin, 85, Harrodsburg, widower of Hazel Goode Martin, died Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at his residence. Born February 7, 1922 in Mercer County he was the son of the late Charles Frank and Lillie Westerfield Martin. He was a member of Ellers Memorial Baptist Church and a retired U.S. Army Veteran. He served in World War II where he drove Army Tanks, and was the last Mercer County survivor of the Bataan Death March and was a Prisoner of War for three and a half years.

Survivors include his adopted family of William and Sue Ward of Harrodsburg.

A celebration of Mr. Martin’s life will be Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with his friends officiating. Burial with military Rites will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Tom Savage, Joey Savage, I, Joey Savage, II, Matthew Allen, Eric Coffman serving as pallbearers and the last survivor of the Bataan Death March, serving as an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Roy Thomas Buckley, 83, Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor where he resided for the past three years. Born February 29, 1924 in Buena Vista in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Thomas Edward and Bertha Pryor Buckley. He was the widower of Hazel Catlett Buckley and he was a member of Shakertown Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters: Evelyn Major of Newburgh, Indiana and Glenna Sanders of Burgin. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Gladys Stine, Cecil Buckley, Della Frances Buckley and Josephine McKinney.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery. His nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Friday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shakertown Baptist Church, 2894 Lexington Road, Harrodsburg, Kentucky 40330.

Donald E. Stumph 75, Harrodsburg, died Sunday, December 16, 2007 at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. Born January 30, 1932 in Washington County he was the son of the late Albert Joseph and Nannie Lou Darland Stumph. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer after 26 years with the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korea and Vietnam Wars and served another 20 years with the Army Corps Engineers. He was a member of Mackville Christian Church, Douglas Laws Post 52, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. His hobbies included gardening and fishing.

Survivors include two sisters: Bertie Mae (Jess) Todd of Seattle Washington and June (Stanley) Green of Harrodsburg; one brother: Sam (Barbara) Stumph of Mackville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister: Wanda Warner and two brothers: Bill Stumph and Albert “Bud” Stumph.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday December 20, 2007 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. George Dye officiating. Burial with military Rites will be in Peters Cemetery, Mackville with Jeff Warner, Barry Warner, Joey Stumph, Timmy Stumph, Donnie Stumph and Gary Stumph serving as pallbearers and Ron Hartman, Tony Dunning, Dennis Shewmaker, Teresa Miller, Tammy Yates, Pam Murphy, Gary Griffieth, Cody Stumph and Jamie Stumph serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 7:00 A.M. Thursday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Nancy Elizabeth Royalty, 74, widow of Phillip “Bud” Royalty, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor. Born November 26, 1933 in Mercer County she was the daughter of the late Ralph Ledmon and Ada Lee Drury Maddox. She was a homemaker and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She enjoyed karaoke, collecting dolls and dancing.

Survivors include one daughter: Mary Marie Bottoms of Harrodsburg; one brother: James Dick Maddox of Harrodsburg; two sisters: Effie Royalty of Harrodsburg and Mary Katherine White of Harrodsburg; two grandsons: Wally (Bridgett)Bottoms and Scottie (Melissa) Bottoms; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sons: Lee, Charles Eugene, Tony and Ernest Lee Royalty and one daughter: Rose Mary Royalty.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with burial in New Providence Cemetery with Wally Bottoms, Scottie Bottoms, Bob White, Mike Royalty, Nathan Bottoms and Eric Releford serving as pallbearers and Brian Drury and James Raymond Drury serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mr. Lewis Ray Hines, 59, of Salvisa, husband of Lytha Lowe Hines, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born August 26, 1948 in the Argyle Community of Casey County, he was the son of Rella Smith Hines of Casey County and the late Ray Hines.

He was an employee of Trane Company in Lexington, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietname War, member of the ARRL Amateur Radio Association where he was an Ace Ham Radio Operator. He was a member of the Golden Pathway Fellowship Church in Anderson County, enjoyed Ham Radios, and playing the guitar. Besides his wife and mother, Lewis is survived by his daughter Lisa Hines Lanham of Harrodsburg, one son Troy Richardson of Casey County, one grandson Christian Lanham of Harrodsburg, one brother Tim Hines of Argyle, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother Larry Hines.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Pastors Joe and Margaret Gay officiating. Burial with military Honors will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Robby Hatter, Jacky Hatter, Casey Hatter, Scotty Vest, Duane Herren, Justin Randolph, Jim Rogers, Tracy Reams,D.J. Reams, Josh Summers, Dustin Summers, and Jim Carroll serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Rosie Lee Price Peavler, 87, widow of A.G. Peavler, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born October 28, 1920 in Mercer County she was the daughter of the late Willie and Evalener Carmichael Price. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.

Survivors include three daughters: Ethel (Willard) Hamm, Shirley (Fred) Knickerbocker and Brenda (Bobby) Carpenter all of Mercer County. One brother: Leroy Price of Cincinnati; two sisters: Helen Foster of Harrodsburg and Irene Robinson of Salvisa; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: James Edmund Price, J.B. Price, and William Howard Price and two sisters: Lucille Sanders and Marie Willis.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church with Bro. Fred Knickerbocker and Bro. Lester Tirey officiating. Burial will be in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery with Joey Hardin, Clinton Hardin, Brian Carpenter, Jimmy Howard, Troy Howard, Billy Minton, Carroll Price and Donnie Webb serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home and after 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church.

Mrs. Jerleen Rasnake, 70, wife of Sam Rasnake, Harrodsburg, died Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington. Born January 18, 1937 in Russell County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Arch Kiser and Lillie Hurd Skeens. She was a homemaker, a retired Mercer Dress employee and was a member of Grapevine Christian Church. She was a member of the Marcella Ladies Circle and enjoyed music and playing rook.

Additional survivors besides her husband include: three daughters: Edna (Harold) Driskell and Lisa (David) Stagner both of Mercer County and Connie (Ralph) Boblitt of Washington County; two sons: Sam “Bo” (Patricia) Rasnake of Washington County and Brian Rasnake of Mercer County; two sisters: Shelby Skeens of Glade Springs, Virginia and Linda Griffith of Kingsport, Tennessee; one brother: Carl Skeens, Sr. of Bristol, Virginia; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren and two foster grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six siblings.

Mrs. Dorthy Peavler Tyler, 67, the widow of Winfield Tyler, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born July 28, 1940 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Peavler and Julia Bottom Peavler of Mercer County. She was a retired babysitter, a member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church, and enjoyed quilting.

Besides her mother, Dorthy is survived by her sister Frances Devine of Mercer County; a special friend Levi Jackson of Harrodsburg, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother Paul Peavler.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial will be in Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and after 7:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

Born July 10, 1930 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Freda Pulliam Snow. She had been a Shakertown employee and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, fishing and hunting. Survivors include one son: Richard Schmiers of Stanford; three daughters: Evelyn Ward of Corbin, Sharon Goode, of Danville and Barbara Hall of Middleburg; one sister: Helen Gass of Stanford; twelve grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Ruth Roberts and Alma Lee Tinsley and one brother: Ernest Ray Snow. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with David Noe officiating. Burial will be in the K.P. Hall Cemetery with William Ward, Jeff Snow, Michael Simmons, Danny Cross, Carey Stafford and Robert Price serving as pallbearers.
