Mrs. Lillie J. Camden, 93 of Lexington, KY, widow of Levi J. Camden died Thursday March 13, 2008 at Richmond Place Health & Rehabilitation in Lexington. She was born in Mercer County on March 15, 1914 to the late Ezra and Lillie Alice Click Tatum. She was a 1934 graduate of Rose Hill High School, a homemaker, long time member of Central Baptist Hospital Auxiliary, a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. She was also a retired antique dealer and had traveled extensively.

Survivors include a daughter Alice Jane (Charles) Bond, Ft. Worth, TX; a son David Brent (Sarah) Camden, Lexington; two sisters Beatrice Russell of Bardstown, and Jewell Best of Mercer County; a brother Ezra Tatum, Jr. of Mercer County; three grandsons, Calvin (Cindy) Bond of Keller, TX; David (Heidi) Bond of Temecula, CA, Andie Camden of Louisville, KY two granddaughters, Catherine (Scott) Tomlinson of Oklahoma City, OK, and Michelle (Dan) Eubank of Lexington, KY eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son Roger Camden, a sister Dorothy Noel and a brother Willie Tatum and two other siblings who died in childhood.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday March 17, 2008 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Walter officiating. Interment will be in Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Calvin Bond, David Bond, Andie Camden, Scott Tomlinson, Dan Eubank and Gary Best.

Charles Winfield Carr, 88, husband of Lynda Lee McGee Carr and former Mayor of the City of Harrodsburg, died Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor. Born January 7, 1920 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Sam and Era Coovert Carr. He was a mechanic and most recently he was a co-owner of Mercer Music Shop. He had served as a Harrodsburg City Commissioner from January of 1962 to July of 1970, was Mayor Pro-Tem in 1970 and served as Mayor from July of 1970 to December of 1973 and then was elected Mayor and served from January of 1978 to December of 1998. He was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and member of the Faith, Hope and Love Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Lonesome Buckaroos music group and was a 12 year volunteer at the Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

Additional survivors besides his wife include: one son: Sam (Kathy) Carr of Harrodsburg; one daughter: Charla (Roger) Pratt of Harrodsburg; one son-in-law: Gerald Hummell; three grandchildren: Jordan Hummell, Kevin Lampson and Spencer Carr; his two dogs: Misha and Mia and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Carolyn Hummell, step-son: Lee Phillips; brother: Buford Carr and his sister: Elsie Farnav.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Lona Mae Angel, 66, of Louisville, died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville. Born February 3, 1942 in Rockcastle County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Cornielus Jones Angel. She was a homemaker, a Baptist, and enjoyed cooking, gardening red roses, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her longtime companion Don Hodges, two sons: Jimmy (Lois) Deatherage of Perryville and Tommy Deatherage of Cocoa, Florida. Four daughters: Jannie Milburn of Cocoa, Florida, Lois (Billy) Whitaker of Burgin, Edith Cobb, and Carolyn Angel both of Indiana. One brother Hubert Angel of Perryville, and one sister Almeda Webb. Thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by one son Russell Wayne Deatherage and one daughter Juanita Deatherage.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial will be in Red Hill Cemetery in Livingston, KY with Ralph Bayes, Patrick Sims, Justin Followell, Lois Whittaker, Billy Whittaker, and Scooter Fortin serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Martha May Griffin, 57, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday March 5, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born January 23, 1951 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Calvin H.G. and Delila Price King. She was a homemaker and a member of the Magnolia Street Christian Church. Martha enjoyed playing Bingo, dancing, and spending time with her granddaughter Amber.

Survivors include her two sons: Timmy Griffin and Terry Griffin both of Harrodsburg, her granddaughter Amber Griffin also of Harrodsburg. Three brothers Gary (Carolyn) King, Calvin H.G. (Marsha) King, Jr., and Carthol (Judy) King all of Harrodsburg. Three sisters: Ruth (Jerry) Barker, Shirley Boyd, and Patricia (Fred) Johnson all of Nicholasville. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Moore officiating. Burial will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens with Chris Johns, Gary Wayne King, David King, William Griffin, Jr., Kendrick, King, Kevin Griffin, Harold Mullins, Ronnie Griffin, and Johnathon Griffin serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mrs. Margaret Dorsey Landers, 75, wife of 55 years to Lucian J. Landers, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at her residence. Born February 7, 1933, in Boyle County she was the daughter of late Ben and Sallie Lou Dorsey. She was a 1951 Graduate of Perryville High School, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a member of the Harrodsburg Lion’s Club where she volunteered several years at The Legend of Daniel Boone outdoor drama and was a volunteer for the Mercer County Senior Citizens.

Additional survivors besides her husband include: two sons: Steven (Cathy) Landers of Harrodsburg and David (Kimberly) Landers of Arlington, Tennessee; two daughters: Betty Lou Ingraham of Pleasantview, Tennessee and Paula Landers Black of Harrodsburg; one brother: Donald Dorsey of Louisville; one sister: Juanita Dorsey Kraft of Chicago, Illinois; seven grandchildren: Erika Makey, Lucian Ray Landers, Amanda Landers, Benjamin Landers, Larry Poynter, Jr., Marie Landers and Chad Landers and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Spring Hill Cemetery. Steven Landers, David Landers, Larry Poynter, Jr., Chad Landers, Lucian Ray Landers, and Benjamin Landers will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Gladys Shewmaker Releford, 87, widow of Grover C. Releford, died Sunday, March 02, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born November 13, 1920 in Mercer County she was the daughter of the late Howard and Sarah Robinson Shewmaker. She was a retired Mercer County School Teacher, a graduate of Eastern State College and was a member of Cornishville Baptist Church where she served as historian, teacher and treasurer. She was a also a member of the Kentucky Education Association and the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed reading and needlecrafts.

Survivors include: one daughter: Hope (Aubrey) Releford McMullin of Mercer County; one son: Lee Howard (Trish) Releford of Mercer County; three grandchildren: Traci (Greg) Brown, Marty McMullin and Phillip Howard Releford; five step-grandchildren; three-great-grandchildren: Fred Howard Releford, Curry Brown, and Courtney Brown; four great-great grandchildren: Kristopher, Sierra, Jacob and Payton Releford.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with burial in Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery. Phillip Releford, Fred Howard Releford, Tim Darland, Chris Darland, Marty McMullin and Greg Brown will serve as pallbearers and Traci Brown, Crystal Darland, Bonnie Carrey, Curry Brown and Courtney Brown will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Monday and after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Edwin Harrison Green, 91, died March 2,2008 at home. He was born in Mercer County, Kentucky on September 8, 1916. His parents were Edwin R. Green and Anna Francis Watts.

Survivors include his wife Naomi Frances ( Pierce ) Green, formerly of Burgin, whom he had been married to for 58 years, his son Edwin Harrison Green of Tacoma , Washington along with his wife Gail and their children Katelynn, Harrison and Jesse. Another son, Michael Thomas Green lives in Morehead, Kentucky with his wife Tara and their children Joshua and Moriah. He also has two other sons, Howard Lee Green and Herman Ray Green , both of whom resides in Charlotte, NC.

During World War II he served with the 454th Bombardment Group , piloting a B-24. He later served in the USAF where he retired after serving his final year of service , flying out of Guam and doing weather reconnaissance, often over the Sea of Japan. He retired at the rank of Major. Upon his retirement from the Air Force in 1968, he moved to Charlotte, NC where he worked for Greenline Conveyor Company until 1981 as their company's pilot and as an office manager.

A memorial service will be held 2 PM Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Burgin Baptist Church in Kentucky followed by a grave site ceremony at Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg , KY. Harry and Bryant Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements from Charlotte. Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home in Harrodsburg, Kentucky will handle the arrangements in Kentucky.

Memorial contributions may be made out to the American Heart Association, the Carolina's Historic Aviation Museum located in Charlotte, NC and to Disabled American Veterans.

Tony Darrell Dearing, 47, husband of Nancy K. Roberts Dearing, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born October 10, 1960 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William G. and Jeannette Ingram Dearing, Sr. Tony was Co-owner of Dearing’s Body Shop and was a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed car racing, car cruises, and restoring cars.

Besides his wife, Tony is survived by three sons: Darrell Dearing and Gary (Tasha) Dearing both of Harrodsburg, and Kipp Hurst also of Harrodsburg. Two step-sons: Steven Roberts and Justin Randolph both of Harrodsburg, two step daughters: Lisa Stratton of Danville and Samantha Randolph of Harrodsburg. Three sisters: Janice (Keith) Albright, Mary Bush, and Wanda (Michael) Infield all of Harrodsburg. One brother Dalton (Jennie) Hurst of Harrodsburg, one great-aunt Edith Dearing of Harrodsburg, seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother William Dearing, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 noon Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Brad King and Bro. Scott Hurst officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Charles Watts, Don Smith, Mike Settles, Todd Ransdell, Danny Bugg, Billy Ray, Gary Yeager, and Ronnie Roberts serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Ross, Zack Shewmaker, John Tyler, Calvin Taylor, and Monty Trower.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday and after 7:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

William Allen Monroe, 69, wife of Martha Hisle Monroe, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at his residence in Burgin. Born March 31, 1939 in Harrodsburg he was the son of the late Sidney S. and Margerie Taylor Monroe. He was a retired carpenter, security officer, police officer and a fireman for the City of Burgin for many years. He was a Veteran of the Kentucky Army National Guard. He was a member of the Burgin Christian Church where he served as a deacon, Past Patron of the Eastern Star #309 and Past Master of the Mercer Masonic Lodge #777. He enjoyed collecting knives, clocks and cigarette lighters.

Additional survivors besides his wife include: two sons: Joseph Allen (Pam) Monroe of Burgin and William Lee (Jeanne) Monroe of Waco; two sisters: Mary Alma Carmack and Betty Tackett both of Harrodsburg; ten grandchildren: Gerria, Heather, Joseph, Josh, Ashley, Matthew, Justin, Jeannie Lee, “Sassy” and Megan. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother: Eugene Monroe and one grandson: Josh A. Monroe.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 20, 2009, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Mandye Yates officiating. Burial will be in the Burgin Memorial Gardens with Bob Coffman, George Hensley, Jim Hogue, Ed Hudson, Ralph Anderson and Paul Parks serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday with Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m. and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mrs. Joyce Ann Medley Sallee, 75, wife of Howard T. Sallee died Sunday, February 15, 2009 at her residence. Born November 14, 1933 in Anderson County she was the daughter of the late Worley and Nettie Casey Medley. Joyce was a caregiver for several years. She was a member of the Indian Hills Christian Church and spent her free time flower gardening, watching and feeding birds and collecting and restoring antiques.

In addition to her husband Joyce is survived by a son: Howard Butch Sallee, Jr. of Mercer County and a daughter: Susan (Lee) Readnower of Mercer County, two brothers: Bobby Medley and Carol Medley both of Anderson County and one sister: Barbara Hatchell of Anderson County. Five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Joyce is preceded in death by one brother Herbert Maurice Medley.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Odis Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Tanner Readnower, Tyler Readnower, Lee Readnower, Ernest Hopkins, William Hatchell and Johnny Ashburn serving as pallbearers. Taylor Readnower, Shannon Hopkins, Lee Hopkins, Ethan Hopkins, Eastin Hopkins, Trintin Ashburn, Tristin Ashburn, Katie Ashburn and Kyle Ashburn will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 17, 2009 and after 7:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mr. Eugene “Gene” Hendren, 82, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington. Born April 6, 1926 in Washington County he was the son of the late Irvin and Addie Bruner Hendren. He was a retired Corning Incorporated employee where he was a production supervisor. He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army, attended Ebenezer Church of Christ and loved fishing and spending time in Florida, gardening, golf and taking his dog Spanky for rides on the golf cart.

Survivors include two sons: Irvin Eugene (Sue) Hendren of Etowah, North Carolina and Wendell Brack (Ann) Hendren of Harrisburg, North Carolina; one daughter: Teresa Ann (Jim) Davis of Harrodsburg; one brother: Reid Hendren of Harrodsburg; his companion, Brenda Collier of Harrodsburg, Spanky his dachshund; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with John Kesel officiating. Burial with military Rites will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Todd Davis, Dennis Davis, Matt Belcher, Chad Hendren, Travis Hendren, Nathaniel Hendren and Chris Collier serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday and after 7:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
