Bennie L. Jenkins, 68, husband of Linda Baugh Jenkins, died Tuesday, February 3, 2008, at Charleston Health Care Manor, in Danville. Born October 10, 1940 in Mercer County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Herbert R. Jenkins and Lena Jones Jenkins.

He was a employee of Hallmack Inc. and WalMart, and a member of the Shakertown Baptist Church

Additional survivors besides his wife include: his children Marcus L. Jenkins of Stanford, Gregory L. Jenkins of Harrodsburg, Pamela Ryan and Sharon Jenkins both of Harrodsburg and Stephanie Peavyhouse of Junction City. Three brothers: Dudley Jenkins and James Jenkins both of Danville and Lonnie Jenkins of Harrodsburg, one sister: Mary Georgia Bennett, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Bennie is preceded in death by three brothers: Franklin, Lawrence and Howard Jenkins and two sisters: Nancy Inman and Diane Cornish.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2009 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Smith officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Marion Ray Inman, Michael Jenkins, Russell Jenkins, Gary Ryan II, Kyle Jenkins, Ronald Baugh and Daniel Edwards serving as pallbearers. Robert Peavyhouse and Johnny Inman will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Votaw, Loretta
February 24, 1931 - January 25, 2009

Loretta Laverne Votaw, 77, died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Born February 24, 1931 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Coleman and Edna Riley Votaw, and a homemaker.

Survivors include two brothers: Fred Votaw and John C. Votaw both of Harrodsburg, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the Lancaster Cemetery, with Bro. Lewis Walters officiating.

No visitation will be held, Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Taylor, Herman

August 24, 1939 - January 25, 2009
Harrodsburg, Kentucky

Herman Taylor, 69, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at his residence. Born August 24, 1939 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Edwin and Mary Coleman Taylor. He was a retired auto body repairman having worked for Elwood Long Used Cars and the Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort. He was a retired veteran of the National Guard, a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church, and enjoyed music and collecting guns.

Survivors include one son Doug (Angie) Taylor of Harrodsburg, one sister Carolyn Hardin of Moreland, one half brother Fred Darson of Washington, D.C., and several nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by one brother Leroy Taylor and one sister Ruby Harrison.

No services are planned, the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Margaret E. Thompson, 78, wife of Floying Thompson, Sr., Harrodsburg, died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born January 12, 1931 in Mercer County she was the daughter of the late Walter Kyle “Doc” and Cordelia Williams Harmon. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and a member of Cornishville Baptist Church.

Additional survivors besides her husband include: two sons: Dennis Thompson and his wife, Rose of Harrodsburg and Floying Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Marsha of Danville; two brothers: Cornell Powell of Harrodsburg and Dale Powell of Lancaster; two sisters: Judy Rivers Reed of Burgin and Charlotte Sallee of Harrodsburg; and two grandchildren: Troy Thompson and Denise Leeanne Thompson; she was preceded in death by one grandson: Travis Thompson and one brother: W.C. Harmon.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with burial in the Danville Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Zachary Fyffe, Floying Thompson, Jr., Troy Thompson, Dennis Thompson, Aubrey McMullin and Larry Reed will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Purvis, Fred A.

Fred A. Purvis, 86, husband of the late Dolly Purvis died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born June 21, 1922 in Salvisa, he was the son of the late James and Saphronia Purvis. He was the former owner of Purvis Grocery which he operated for twenty-three years. He had worked at ATR in Danville and the Harrodsburg Gateway. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his son, Fred Purvis, Jr. of Campbellsville and one granddaughter Bethany Sprowles of Campbellsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with John David Lane officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Jackie Taylor, Jeremy Sprowles, and David Taylor serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Virginia Yeast, 94, widow of Hugh Yeast, died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born October 31, 1914 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret Newby Lawson. She was a retired Corning Glass employee and a lifelong member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son: Bronson Yeast and his wife, Nancy of Mercer County; one daughter: Sherry Rayma of Frankfort; two grandchildren: Bronna Yeast Scoggins and her husband Chuck and Shane Willhoite and two great-grandchildren: Chris and Laura Scoggins. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Marcus Arnold Lawson and William Lawson and two sisters: Velva Sanders and Elizabeth Lawson Rogers.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Shane Willhoite, Chris Scoggins, Harold Lawson, Bobby Newby, Vance Lawson, , Frank Martin and Jackie Springate serving as pallbearers and Don Billy Rogers, Jimmy Best and John “Bill” Sutter serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday and after 7:00 a.m. Sunday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Geneva B. Litteral, 92, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. Born March 21, 1916 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late George Thomas and Louisa Katherine Pinkston Litteral. She was retired from Beaumont Inn and was a member of the Mt. Freedom Baptist Church.

Survivors include one sister Beatrice L. Hourigan of Harrodsburg; two nephews Donald Litteral of Cornishville and Robbie Litteral of Danville, one niece Hilda Mae Pike of Lexington. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Jamie Chesser officiating. Burial will be in Grapevine Christian Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of service Wednesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lena Mae Royalty, 91, of Harrodsburg, widow of James Royalty, died Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the Taylor Manor Nursing Home in Versailles. Born July 20, 1917 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Hattie Downey Hulett. She was a Charter Member of the Magnolia Street Christian Church, the founding Trustee of Royalty Cemetery in Bohon, and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include two sons: James (Kerry) Royalty of Versailles and Jerry Lee (Ann K.) Royalty of Louisville. One daughter Mary Agnes (Lonnie) Hatchel of Harrodsburg, two grandchildren Michael Dean Hatchel and Amy Lee Royalty Sparks; three great grandchildren: Bryce Hatchel, and Madison and Morgan Sparks, and two special friends Garnet Leonard and Leona Royalty-Berg both of Harrodsburg.

She was preceded in death by one brother Arthur Hulett.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Walter and Matthew Atha officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Michael Hatchel, George Buchanan, William Sparks, Ed Berg, Bud Royalty, J.L. Devine, Jerry Burns, and Glenn Preston serving as active pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Hospice of Bluegrass, 208 Steele Street, Frankfort KY 40601 and Royalty Cemetery Trust Fund, c/o Whitaker Bank, 211 S. Main Street, Harrodsburg KY 40330.

William F. Turner, 82, husband of the late Clara Lucas Turner, died Saturday, January 3, 2009 in Medina, OH. Born September 14, 1926 in Danville, he was the son of the late Ernest and Bertha Carter Turner. He was a farmer, a truck driver, a Baptist, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include one daughter Brenda Hensley of Norfolk, VA., three sons: Billy Turner of Harrodsburg, Tony Turner of Brunswick, OH., and Ricky Turner of Harrodsburg. Three sisters: Ruth Brown of Burgin, Helen Miller of Richmond, and Mary Hanna DiLuzio of Pennsylvania. Two brothers: Robert Turner of Burgin and Marion Turner of Harrodsburg. Thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Smith officiating. Burial will be in Parksville Cemetery with Danny Turner, Chris Turner, Chad Turner, Cody Turner, David Turner, T.J. Turner, and Leon Phillips serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Virginia Helm, 102, of Danville, died January 2, 2009 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born July 23, 1906 in Parksville, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Hardin and Mary Moore Helm.

She retired after Forty-Two Years from Kentucky School for the Deaf, having served as an Executive Secretary to four superintendents from the late 1920s to the early 1970s. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Danville, she enjoyed playing bridge, reading books and periodicals, and taking walks.

Survivors include her brother Stanley Helm of Danville, four nephews: Wayne Westerfield of Harrodsburg, John Cocanougher of Oxford, Ohio, H.P. Durham of Prescott, AZ., and Donald Helm of Fish Creek, WI. Two nieces Lillian Scoyen of Palo Alto, CA., and Mary Jo Helm of Fish Creek, WI. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2 P.M. on Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Parksville Cemetery with Larry Camic officiating. John Cocanougher, Larry Camic, Wayne Westerfield, Bruce Helm, John Helm and Stuart Powell are serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be McDowell Place of Danville Staff, Harrodsburg Health Care Center Staff, G.G. Harmon, Bob Reister Sr.and Bill Dishman.

There will be no visitation, Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to First Christian Church, P.O. Box 1398, Danville, KY 40422-1557 and/or Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40423.
