Neoma Sanford Hatchett, 101, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Kennesaw, Georgia. Born September 16, 1907 in Bohon, KY., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Melinda Sanford. She was a former school teacher and homemaker. She was the widow of Woodson Albert Hatchett.

Survivors include her son James Powell (Linda) Hatchett of Wellington, Florida, and her daughter Anne Hatchett Tyler of Kennesaw, Georgia. Four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by one son William Hume Hatchett.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Julius Hovan officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Brad Railey, Tim Tyler, Adam Lebow, Patrick Hatchett, Delbert Reynolds, Greg Grothe, N.S. Buster, and Harold Reynolds serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Briscoe, Freda Caroline

Freda Caroline Briscoe 71, wife of the late Alfred Earl Briscoe, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at her residence. Born July 8, 1937 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Baker and Anna Byrd Carr. Freda operated a family care home for 25 years. She enjoyed music, gardening and animals. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son: Earl Briscoe of Harrodsburg, three daughters: Garnetta Wallace of Russellville KY, Alfreda Whitehouse and Kathy Briscoe both of Harrodsburg. One brother: Fonnie Baker and one sister: Barbara Green of Lawrenceburg. Twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Freda is preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. David Collier officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Mike Baker, Art Baker, James Ray Griffieth, Harold Baker, Robbie Baker and Connie Baker serving as pallbearers. Bob Martin, Nordy Votaw, Bill Baker, Maurice Jr. Baker, Tommy Simpson, Ronnie Simpson, Cleo Baker Jr., Timmy Baker, Scotty Baker, Charlie Baker, Shane Briscoe and Nohemy Ambrose will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 21, 2008, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday after 7:00 a.m. at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Jim Peck Campbell, 51, husband of Alice Simpson Staton died , Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born August 22, 1957 in Casey County he was the son of Lorene Peck Campbell of Mercer County and the late Carl Campbell. He was an employee of White’s Fencing and enjoyed farming, The Beatle’s and Elvis music.

Additional survivors besides his wife and mother include, one daughter: Melanie Campbell of West Virginia; one step-daughter Sarah Staton of Harrodsburg; four brothers: Wendell Campbell of Hustonville, Glenn Campbell of Boyle County; Gerald (Cheryl) Campbell of Burgin and Terry (Connie) Campbell of Stanford; one sister: Rose Mary Campbell of Harrodsburg; one grand-daughter: Calista Hall of West Virginia and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Janet Campbell.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Slagle officiating. Burial will be Spring Hill Cemetery with Wendell Campbell, Glenn Campbell, Gerald Campbell, Terry Campbell, Guy Driscol and Junior Campbell serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 12 Noon Thursday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Gertrude Gray, 85, died Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at her residence. Born January 19, 1923 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William S. “Doc” and Ora Mae Claunch Bailey Burns. She was a retired Cricketeer employee.

Survivors include two daughters: Nancy Lou Murphy of Harrodsburg and Glenda (Kenneth) Daugherty of Danville; two half-brothers: Danny and Bobby Bailey, both of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren: Kathy (Lee) Wilson, Earl Douglas (Angela) Murphy, Jr., Kimberly (Don) Smith, Kenneth Daugherty, Jr. and Shawn (Tina) Gray; thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son: Tony Gray; her sisters: Louise McMillan, Ella Steele, Hattie Semones, Lettie Adams and Iva Norvell and her son-in-law: Earl Douglas Murphy.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Chaplain Tim Johnson officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Earl Douglas Murphy, Jr.; Ken Daugherty, Clay Brown, Chris Murphy, Clay Wilson, Lee Wilson, Don Smith and Shawn Gray.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kentucky Council for the Blind, 148 Vernon Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206 and/or Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422.

Mary Speckner Beatty, 84, widow of Joseph A. Beatty died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor. Born March 14, 1925 in Louisville she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Schwartz Speckner. She was a retired Mercer County School Food Service employee, was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and enjoyed crafts.

Survivors include two sons: Paul (Angie) Beatty of Harrodsburg and Thomas Brooks Beatty of Nicholasville; one daughter: Lisa (Merle) Hart of Harrodsburg; one sister: Ethel Cooper of Louisville and four grandchildren: Audrey Beatty, Kristie Lynch, M.J. Hart and Brandon Hart; seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Michelle Cooper Thomas. She was preceded in death by one brother: George Speckner and one sister: Mildred Whalen.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Danny Schwendeman officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Nicholas Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church.

Louise Milburn Fogt, 88, widower of James Edward Fogt, Sr., died Saturday, March 21, 2009 in Harrodsburg. Born June 21, 1920 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Will and Florene Cocanougher Milburn. She was a former sales person for the J.L. Hudson Department and was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Michigan. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, sewing, reading, volunteering at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor and collecting dolls.

Survivors include one son, James Edward Fogt, Jr. and his wife, Vicki of Harrodsburg; one brother, James Milburn of Burgin; one grand-daughter, Melissa Fogt of Harrodsburg and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Milburn and three brothers, Donald, Garland and Billy Milburn.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. David Witten officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Schell, Virginia Rae Logue

Virginia Rae Logue Schell, 81, widow of Delmas Schell, Lawrenceburg died Saturday, March 21, 2009 in Lawrenceburg. Born August 8, 1927 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Reid and Vivion Dean Logue. She was a member of the Lawrenceburg Community Baptist Church. In 2003 she was Anderson County’s Citizen of the Year and in 2007 she was Anderson County’s Citizen of the Month and she was very active in God’s Basin for many years. She was a retired Texas Instrument employee and a retired apartment manager at Executive East Apartments in Lexington.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy (Norman) Ledford of Paris, three sons: Donnie (Jane) Sims of Lawrenceburg, Larry (Darlene) Sims of Harrodsburg and Gary (Becky) Sims of Salvisa; three sisters: Margaret Sims, Rebecca Kinder and Wanda Kinder all of Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her grand-daughter, Dana Leigh Sims.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donnie Sims, Larry Sims, Gary Sims, Clay Yocum, Brent McGinnis, Cory Sims, Norman Ledford, Steve Hill and Chris Harrod. Curtis Sims, Kenny Sims, Vincent Kinder, Tommy Logue, Miller Horn, Don Horn, Troy Thompson, JoJo Thompson and Rita Hendren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson County Senior Citizens.

Betty Jean Carpenter Hardin, 69, of Jeffersonville, widow of George Henry Carpenter, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington. Born September 26, 1939 in Mercer County she was the daughter of the late John D. and Virginia Browning Riley. She had attended The Assembly of God church in Jeffersonville. She was a Senior Companion and had attended Mid-Way College.

Survivors include: one son, Robert (Connie) Carpenter of Jeffersonville; one daughter, Brenda (Francis) Edwards of Salvisa; five brothers: Charles (Geneva) Riley of Salvisa, Raymond (Judy) Riley, Joe (Judy) Riley, Donnie (Shirley) Riley all of Lexington and Mike (Karen) Riley of Winchester; two sisters, Sue (Dan) Burkhart of Richmond and Aileen (Jim) Hisle of Winchester; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with burial in the Hebron Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Terhune, Earl

Earl Terhune, 86, widower of Oneida Bailey Terhune and Sue Anderson Terhue, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born March 20, 1922 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Elbridge “EB” and Cora Whiteneck Terhune. He was a retired supervisor of both Cricketeer and Palm Beach and during his retirement he served as a Bluegrass Transit Driver. Earl was a Army Veteran, member of the American Legion and Magnolia Street Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and sports.

Survivors include: two step- sons: Elvin Anderson of Perryville and Jimmy Anderson of Stanford; three step-daughters: Edith Lee of Danville, Linda Myers of Illinois and Bea Beasley of Harrodsburg; six step-grandchildren, nine step-great grandchildren and four step-great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother; Warren Terhune and his sister; Blanche Young.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with burial will in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and 7:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Taylor, Brenda

Brenda Taylor, 55, wife of Leslie J. Taylor died Sunday, March 8, 2009 at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born March 7, 1954 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of Irene Baker White and the late Cash White. Brenda was a personal care assistant and attended the Bohon Road Baptist Church. Brenda loved her dogs, basketball games, stock car races, doll collecting and movies.

Other than her husband and mother Brenda is survived by one daughter; Eva Francis (Jeff) Sanford of Junction City; two brothers; Robert C. (Melva) White of Harrodsburg and Tony Lee (Vickie) White of Lawrenceburg, three grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts.

She was preceded in death by a brother; Kenneth Cash White.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home, with Bro. Ken Calia officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Jimmy Cash White, Adam White, Earl Baker, Chad Worthington, Andrew Pulliam, Michael Hahn, Jeff Sanford and Stevie Pittman serving as pallbearers. Kassie Sanford, Jeffrey Sanford and Dustin Sanford will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009 and after 7:00 a.m. till 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home and after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Bohon Road Baptist Church.
