Robert A. Fisher

As a Newport City Commissioner in the 1950s, Robert A. Fischer served with some of the more colorful figures in area politics.
Mr. Fischer, 74, of Newport, died Friday in St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.

Mr. Fischer was in his early 30s when he was elected to the commission. He served two terms, from 1956 to 1960, and then ran unsuccessfully for mayor, said his wife, Mary Fischer.

"Bob Sidell was the mayor when he was on the commission. He lost the mayor election in 1960 to Ralph Mussman," Mrs. Fischer said.

With politics behind him, Mr. Fischer concentrated on a business career, and was president of Fischer Enterprises, Newport, a fund-raising endeavor. He retired several years ago.

"He raised funds for organizations throughout the tri-state, including the Cincinnati school system, and for 4-H groups all over Kentucky," Mrs. Fischer said.

Her husband was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Holy Name Society and the Elks, Mrs. Fischer said.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Lisa M. Fischer of Newport; a son, Robert J. Fischer of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Albert J. Fischer of Ft. Thomas; and two grandchildren. A daughter, Therese M. Fischer, died in 1994.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to Redwood Rehabilitation Center, 71 Orphanage Road, Ft. Mitchell 41017.

Family, kids' teams vital to Joyce Matteoli

Family was everything to Joyce Ann Fields Matteoli.

"With Joyce, her family came first. They all loved and supported each other," said long-time friend Pat Earlywine.

Mrs. Matteoli, 56, of Florence, died early Saturday in St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

"Her daughter, Holly, played, and she helped getting the girls pepped up," Angie Matteoli said of her mother-in-law.
