Betty D. Moore, 73, of Harrodsburg, widow of Robert Henry Moore died Monday, July 27, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born April 18, 1936 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Barnett and Opal Bottoms Settles. Betty was a homemaker and a member of the Battle Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, canning, gardening and sewing.

Betty is survived by one son: Robert A. (Tina) Moore, of Lebanon, three brothers: Randall (Charlotte) Settles and Mike Settles both of Harrodsburg and Barnett (Jo Anna) Settles of Danville and two sisters: Linda (Kenneth) Proctor of Harrodsburg and Faye (Danny) Adkins of McAfee, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Logue officiating, burial will be in the Ebenezer Church of Christ Cemetery with Mike Settles, Mark Settles, Billy Holiday, Dennis Holiday, Jimmy Holiday and Jerry Holiday serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 7:00 A.M. on Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Ralph G. McGuire, 75, of North Main Street, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington. Born November 18, 1933 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late John Henry and Eva Opal Darland McGuire. He was a self-employed painter for several years, a U.S. Marine and U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War; a member of the National Guard, the American Legion, a Life Member of the V.F.W., a Life Member of AMVET, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sisters: Pauline Caine of Louisville, Laverne Grider of Harrodsburg, and Irene Harlow also of Harrodsburg. Three brothers: Vernon McGuire of Harrodsburg, Leslie McGuire of Louisville, and Eugene McGuire of Harrodsburg. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Jr., James, Keith, and Kenneth McGuire and one sister Mary Evelyn McGuire.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating.

Burial with military Honors will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Eugene McGuire, Vernon McGuire, Leslie McGuire, Tim Springate, Jim Springate, Jim McGuire, and Tony McGuire serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Betty Lou Perkins, 65, wife of Ralph Perkins, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at her home. Born August 16, 1943 in Rockcastle County, she was the daughter of the late William Park and Mary Lula Lambert Thomas. She was a homemaker, attended Pioneer Baptist Church, and loved entertaining her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters: Jamie (Rick) Pinkston and Dana (PJ) Simpson both of Lawrenceburg. Two step-daughters: Donna (Mike) Stafford of Danville and Lisa (Bee) Sebastian of Lancaster. Three brothers: Amos Thomas of Carlisle, Willie Thomas of Franklin, OH., and Brownie Thomas of Berea. One sister Anna Ellen (Nannie) Reed of Burlington, four granddaughters: Jana Pinkston, Nikki (Travis) Daniels, and Whitney Simpson all of Lawrenceburg and Maggie Vandivier of Harrodsburg. One grandson David (Tonya) Steele of Oak Grove, one step granddaughter Tara Stafford and two step grandsons Brandon Sebastian and Jarrod Stafford. Two great grandsons: Landon Daniels and Alexander Steele and several nieces, nephews and in-laws also survive.

She was preceded in death by her only son Duane Perkins, several brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens with Donnie Hampton, Wayne Holiday, Dwayne Woods, Brandon Sebastian, Eddie Morehead, and Vance Smith serving as pallbearers. Lake Markham will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday and after 7:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Kristin (Kristy) Dawn Taylor, 24, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, July 2, 2009. Born March 13, 1985 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Michael Edward Taylor of Perryville and Lynne and Leo Vaughn, Jr. of Harrodsburg. She worked at Pizza Hut, attended National College and loved her children and animals.

Besides her parents, Kristin is survived by her son Kamren Jones of Harrodsburg, her daughter Kaylei Jones also of Harrodsburg; three brothers Brandon Taylor of Danville, Jason Vaughn and Austin Vaughn both of Harrodsburg. Two sisters: Shelby Lewis of Harrodsburg and Haley Taylor of Danville; paternal grandparents Bobby and Peggy Taylor of Waynesburg, and maternal step grandparents Dickie and Betty Steele of Harrodsburg.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Barbara Phillips and paternal great grandmother Garnye Taylor.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Cox and Gilbert Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Josh Humpert, Dylan Colvin, Brandon Taylor, Greg Taylor, Eric Taylor, Glenn Phillips, Mark Taylor, and Chris Taylor serving as active pallbearers. Bryan Phillips, Patricia Lambert, Haley Taylor, Hannah Anderson, Shelby Lewis, Clay Burkhead, Lex Burkhead, Jason Vaughn, and Austin Vaughn will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Effie Marie Royalty, 73, widow of Alvin Royalty, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born June 29, 1936 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Ada Drury Maddox. She was a retired cook for Beaumont Inn having worked there for Twenty-Five Years. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, enjoyed fishing, music, working crossword puzzles, and going to flea markets.

Survivors include one son Michael Wayne Royalty of Harrodsburg; two daughters: Glenda Lou Royalty and Patricia Ann Williams both of Harrodsburg. One brother James (Mildred) Maddox of Salvisa, one sister Mary Katherine (Robert) White of Harrodsburg, five grandchildren, and special friend Paul Snow also survive.

She was preceded in death by one sister Nancy Royalty and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery with Roger Pemberton, Kenneth Michael Williams, Lennie Westerfield, Bryan Drury, James Jackson, Michael Christopher Royalty, Wally Bottoms and Scottie Bottoms serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Harold Douglas Snapp, 71, of Burgin, died Friday, June 26, 2009 at his residence. Born February 16, 1938 in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Carl and Ethel Elliott Snapp. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church, and was an avid fan of U.K. Basketball.

Survivors include one sister Eva Margaret O’Bannon of Burgin, two nieces: Eva Reynolds of Danville and Kathy Mitchell of Georgetown. Four great nieces, one great nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one sister Lillian Frances Snapp.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Geoff Barrett officiating. Burial will be in HillCrest Memorial Park in Lexington with Jimmy Matherly, Bob Williams, Mike Sanford, Jeff Woodrum, Peanut Riney, and Andy Reynolds serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mr. Lafon Darland, 93, of Harrodsburg, widower of DeEtte Sims Darland, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born January 19, 1916 in McClean, Ill., he was the son of the late John W. and Bertha Robinson Darland. He was a retired Television Repairman and Farmer. He was an avid Lionel Train Collector having over sixty antique engines which date back to the 1940’s. He was also a member of the Lionel Train Collectors Club and Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son Doyle Sims (Kim) Darland of Harrodsburg, one “adopted” son Willard (Ethel) Hamm of Harrodsburg, one sister Stacy Batts of Knoxville, TN., two grandsons Timothy Doyle (Krystal) Darland and Christopher Keith Darland both of Harrodsburg, one “adopted” granddaughter Karen Hamm of Harrodsburg, and four great grandchildren Logan Darland, Taylor Darland, Hunter Dean, and Colton Darland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by two sons Gerald Dale Darland and J.W. Darland, one brother W.H. Darland, and one sister Ladine Sheperson.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny Queener and Bro. Fred Knickerbocker officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Willard Hamm, Joe Harlow, Tim Darland, Chris Darland, Mike Matherly, J.L. Walker, and Milward Dedman serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Richard H. Schmiers, Jr., 57, died Monday, June 1, 2009 in Junction City. Born November 24, 1951 in Louisville, he was the son of the late Richard H. Schmiers, Sr., and Anna Mae Snow Rogers. Richard was a retired “Jack of All Trades” having worked at Spring Hill Cemetery, Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home, Lincoln Tool & Die, and Country Hearth Inn.

Survivors include three daughters: Patricia (Danny) Cross of Parksville, Donna Reenee (Marcos) Schmiers-Gomez of Danville, and Eva Lee (Wayne) Reeves of Waddy. Three sisters Sharon Goode of Junction City, Barbara Hall of Middlesburg, and Evelyn Ward of Corbin. Fourteen grandchildren, a special friend Vivian Martin, family friends: James Donald Dearing, Roy Kenneth Price, Troy Dale Claunch, and James Todd Wilson, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by one grandson Christopher Claunch and two brothers Tom and Chuck Schmiers.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Darlisa Holder officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Timmy Vineyard, Jimmy Roberts, Kenny Ward, Wayne Reeves, and Josh Goode serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Elizabeth L. Hayslett, 67, widow of Joseph Huston Hayslett, died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born December 14, 1941 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Pagie and Lomie Claunch Lewis. She was a member of Benton Baptist Church, retired from Cricketeer, enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, reading, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include one son Lt. Col. Joseph H. Hayslett, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Guam and one daughter Elizabeth Jean Fogakoldyke of Indiana. Four sisters: Opal French of Mercer County, Linda Watts of Mercer County, Florence Bee Devine of Mercer County, and Barbara Hodge of Boyle County. Four brothers Charles Lewis, Buford Lewis, Tony Lewis, and Pagie Lewis all of Mercer County. Six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers Bruce and Glenn Lewis.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. George Dye officiating. Burial will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mrs. Azille Goodlett Barnett, 88, widow of Floyd W. Barnett, died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Born February 13, 1921 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late W.J. and Verna Robinson Goodlett. She had served as a bus driver for thirteen years having driven for Bluegrass Community Action Mercer County Head Start.

She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church where she was very active in the Mission Ministry, had served as a Sunday School Teacher for fifty-three years, and was also a member of W.M.U. for over fifty years. Mrs. Barnett enjoyed fishing, gardening, and her flowers.

Mrs. Barnett was a 1939 graduate of Fairview High School and a member of Fairview Homemakers Club for more than fifty years.

Survivors include one son Jerry W. (Jean) Barnett of Salvisa, two daughters: Charlene (Tommy) Pinkston of Harrodsburg and Mitzi (Kelly) Bugg of Harrodsburg. Seven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, two nieces and one nephew also survive. She was preceded in death by one grandson Scott Bugg and two brothers Kenneth Davis Goodlett and Joseph W. Goodlett.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Brad King, Earl Pinkston, Bro. Lester Tirey, and Bro. David Culp officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Bobby Christerson, Curtis Sherrow, Garland Hoskins, Fred Herald, Kenny Long, and Danny McDonald serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Lady Sunday School Classes. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday and after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Gideons International, P.O. Box 176, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 and/or Bethel Baptist Church.
