Siler, Paul

April 14, 1932 - May 29, 2009

Paul Siler, 77, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, May 29, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born April 14, 1932 in Whitley County, he was the son of the late William Ernest and Artie Perkins Siler. He was a retired cook having worked at Jerry’s in Danville and Arby’s in Tampa, Florida. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a Methodist.

Survivors include two brothers Delbert “Doc” Siler of Harrodsburg and Clifford Siler of Indiana, and one sister Geneva R. Lower of Cincinnati. Several nieces and nephews also survive

A private funeral service will be held at a later date.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Jewell Peavler Anderson, 77, widow of John R. Anderson, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Charleston Health Care Center in Danville. Born October 4, 1931 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Bob Peavler and Omie Logue. She was a retired nursing assistant at the Friendship House in Danville, had worked at the Boyle Pharmacy, and had attended the Perryville Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons: James Kenneth (Neena) Peavler of Danville and Monte Anderson of Danville. Two stepsons Johnny & Tommy Anderson both of Indiana. Thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by one stepdaughter Annette Heffelfinger, four brothers: Connie B., William Lee, James T., and Everett Marshall Peavler and two sisters Ella Sallee and Ovie Gaines.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Larry Holbrook officiating. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery in Perryville with Cody Ragle, Cole Peavler, W.T. Peavler, Kenny Wayne Gaines, Len Yates, and Toby Turner serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Joseph W. “Billy” Peavler, 69, of Burgin died Wednesday May 20, 2009 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Born August 25, 1939 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William and Josie Marksbury Peavler. He was a retired Machine Operator at Modine, a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church, a graduate of Mercer County High School, an antique dealer, and knife trader.

Survivors include his step-mother Nan Peavler of Greenwood, IN., two daughters: Lawana (Ethan) Wilson of Richmond and Melody (Brent McGaughey) Greenup of Waddy, and three grandchildren: Robyn Wilson, Cameron Wilson, and Samantha Greenup.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Tirey officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Bill Grimes, George Hendrix, Dennis Coslow, Donnie Webb, Billy Minton, and Jim Carpenter serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday and after 7:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Lyons, Mary Lou

November 29, 1933 - May 17, 2009

Mary Lou Durham Lyons, formerly of Cummins Drive, widow of Delmar R. Lyons, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the Charleston Health Care Center in Danville after a long illness. Born November 29, 1933 in Yosemite, KY where she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Ruth Rainey Durham. She was a press operator at the former Cricketeer Manufacturing Corporation, a member of the Baptist faith and attended Southside Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons: Stephen (Pam) Lyons, Harrodsburg and Michael (Dale) Lyons, Waddy; three daughters, Melody “Bitsy” (Kenny) Stephens, Kathy (Dan) Albright and Beth Lyons all of Harrodsburg; one sister Jeanette Thompson, Danville and thirteen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Chester, Elbert, J.E, Clayton, and Richard Durham and by five sisters, Ellen and Shelby Jean Durham, Laura Swango, Waneda Thompson, and Brenda Galloway.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 am Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home by Pastor Matthew Robbins. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 19, 2009 from 5 until 8 pm and 7:00 am until the service on Wednesday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are: Eric Lyons, John Lyons, Adam Hartman, Jordan Lyons, Ben Hartman, Ryan Albright, Zachary Lyons, and Jacob Lyons.

Ruby Melton, 87, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Professional Care Rehabilitation Center in Dale, Indiana. Born December 11, 1921 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late John Lewis and Bessie Beatrice Jenkins Bishop. She was a homemaker, a seamstress, and an artist.

Survivors include one daughter Cheryl Wurst of Louisville, one sister Shirley Todd of Richmond, and several nieces and nephews. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by one son Stevie Melton, two brothers Lewis Bishop and Willard Bishop, and three sisters: Lola Sellman, Margaret Fiebelkorn, and Katherine Corbet.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Mark King officiating. Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Highlawn Memorial Gardens in Washington Courthouse, Ohio.

Kenneth Littleton Price, 73, husband of Faye Thurman Price, died Thursday, May 07, 2009 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Born November 12, 1935 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late William Littleton and Mary Hawkins Price. He was retired after thirty-nine years from Square D, was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, a member of the Carpenter’s Christian Church where he served as former Treasurer and Elder, and was a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge 777 F&AM.

Besides his wife, survivors include one son Douglas Littleton Price of Lexington, two sisters: Nancy Hanson of Chicago and Rosemary Marksbury of Winchester. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Carpenter’s Christian Church with Greg Warren, Richard McKinley, and Larry Camic officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Mike Votaw and the Elders of Carpenter’s Christian Church serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Votaw and members of the Joy Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the Carpenter’s Christian Church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Carpenter’s Christian Church, 1340 U.S. Hwy 127 Bypass, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

Maxine “Mimi” Pinkston, 82, widow of Ray Pinkston, of Harrodsburg died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born April 2, 1927 in McQueary County, Maxine was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Watts Ashton. She was a member of the housekeeping staff at Shakertown at Pleasant Hill. Maxine enjoyed bowling and gardening and was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.

Maxine is survived by three sons: Charles Pinkston of Springfield, KY., Earl (Barbara) Pinkston of Danville, KY and Steve (Kim) Pinkston of Harrodsburg, KY, two sisters: Lura Stephens and Dessie Arns both of Cincinnati, OH, eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Donald and Larry Pinkston, one grandson: Kevin Pinkston, and one great great granddaughter: Makaylie Ashton Sapp and two brothers: Charlie Ashton and Herbert Ashton.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Steve James and Wendell Correll officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Keith Pinkston, Don Pinkston, Bradley Pinkston, Nick Williams, Vernon Linder and Herbie Ashton serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be David Ashton, John Arns, Bill Arns and Howard Stephens.

Mary B. Carter, 85, formerly of Harrodsburg died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Hospice Care Center of Lexington. Born in Mercer County, Mary was the daughter of the late Bishop and Ruth Langford Davenport Carter. She was a 1942 graduate of Harrodsburg High School and a 1945 graduate of Good Samaritan where she continued a 44 year career in nursing.

Mary was a member of the Lafayette Christian Church and enjoyed knitting sweaters, reading, cats, cardinals and all music especially Perry Como.

Mary leaves behind her best friends James and Patty Mason and Elizabeth of Lexington, in addition, her good friends Wallace and Jane White, also of Lexington.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home, with burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. Thursday and after 12:00 noon Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Karen Brown Fletcher, 57, Clarksville IN, formerly of Burgin and Harrodsburg died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Wedgewood Health Care Manor in Clarksville IN. Born October 9, 1951 in Harrodsburg she was the daughter of the late Horace and Elizabeth Spaulding Brown. She was the widow of Tommy Fletcher and attended the Baptist Church. Karen was a 1969 graduate of Burgin High School and a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and Mid-America College of Funeral Service. She was a former music teacher of the Lincoln County School System. She was a former funeral director and embalmer for Alexander & Royalty INC. While in Harrodsburg, Karen was the founder of the Widow to Widow group, had been a member of the Anna Elliott Bohon Women’s Club and the Fort Harrods Business and Professional Women’s Club. She had served on the National Funeral Directors Association Pursuit of Excellence Committee and was a former instructor at the Mid-America College of Funeral Service.

Survivors include two cousins.

Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Jolene Bailey officiating with burial in the Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be 6:00 till 8:00 p.m., Thursday and after 8:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Wafford, Phillip B.

He was the son of Lucille Wafford and the late Robert Brown Wafford. He is survived by one daughter: Phillita Jill Wafford Ammons of Harrodsburg, one brother: Raymond Wafford of MT. Washington Kentucky, and one son: Mitch Doyle of Harrodsburg. Phillip is survived by Two Grandchildren Sarah Ammons and Sophia Ammons: of Harrodsburg, also surviving are two nieces. Phillip was preceded in death by two sisters Irene Rhorer and Bobbie Ann Spaulding.

He was a retired Master Electrician and recently employed with White House Electric in Georgetown, Kentucky

Memorial services will be conducted at the Faith Temple Pentecostal Church, 205 Otter Street, Danville Kentucky June 30, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. with Sister Jolene Bailey officiating. A Reception will follow.
