James Cecil Keeling, 84, of Burgin died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at his residence. Born September 16, 1927 in Mercer County he was the son of the late Cecil and Rose Fowler Keeling. James was a retired United States Navy Chief. While serving he received the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was a former television repairman. He was a member or the Burgin Baptist Church where he was a long time greeter, served many years as an election officer and a lifetime member of the Cavite Lodge No. 2, F&AM.

James is survived by one sister: Juanita (Bob) Moss of Harrodsburg, one brother: Curtis (Anna Ruth) Keeling of Burgin and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the Burgin Baptist Church with Bro. Carl McCray officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Billy Lucas, Jason Lucas, Daniel Lucas, Lynn Moss, Cecil Keeling and Bill Waggener serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Moss and David Keeling.

Visitation will be 12:00 noon until the time of service at the Burgin Baptist Church.

Harrison Charles Farthing, 85 died Tuesday May 31, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Eva Craig Farthing for 65 years. Harrison was born December 6, 1925 in Rock Falls, IL., he was the son of the late Harrison M. and Mildred Fisher Farthing. Harrison was a WWII Navy Veteran, a member of the VFW, American Legion and the D.A.V. a retired member of the Steamfitters Local Union of 452, Lexington Kentucky Harrison enjoyed Fishing and Deer Hunting.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, he is survived by three sons, Jack Farthing of Danville, Jerry and Jim Farthing of Burgin. Three grandsons, Tab of Mercer County, J. Chris of Danville, Casey of Mercer, and one granddaughter: Sharon Willmarth of Dallas TX. Harrison was also survived by three great grandsons and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Tirey and Dr. Ralph Neal officiating. Burial will be in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery with grandsons, Tab Farthing, Chris Farthing, Casey Farthing, Donnie Web, Ricky Craig and Mark Harlow serving as pallbearers. The Members of the V.F.W. and the American Legion will be serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitations will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday June, 3 2011 and after 7:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Sam T. Watts, 70, husband of Linda Lewis Watts, died Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born December 22, 1940 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Charles T. and Florence P. Divine Watts. He was retired after Thirty-Eight Years from Dixie Cup as a Printing Press Operator, was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church, and enjoyed watching Westerns on TV.

Besides his wife, Sam is survived by one son Bueford Watts of Harrodsburg, one aunt Betty Divine of Harrodsburg, several nieces and nephews, and his loving dog Lilly. He was preceded in death by one son Mike Watts, three brothers: Billy, Orville Lee, and Kenny Watts, and two sisters: Glenna Deatherage and Louise Watts.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. George Dye and Bro. Dallas Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Joseph Hayslett, Jr., Bobby Watts, Benny Williams, Wesley Williams, Johnny Curtsinger, and Gary Dixon serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Whiteside, Jimmy Gibson, Tony Williams, Bobby Thompson and the Men of Hebron Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Garnett Mobley, 79, died Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. He was the husband of Rena Patterson Mobley. Born August 21, 1931 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Dewey and Myrtle Coker Mobley. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and was retired from Dairymen, Inc. (Cudahy) after thirty eight years. He enjoyed farming and loafing with the loafers and his McDonald’s friends.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter Rhonda (Dale) Darland and two grandsons: Brad (Michele) Barnett and Chad (Leanna) Barnett all of Harrodsburg. Two step-granddaughters: Robin (Kevin) Quinton of Harrodsburg and Kelli (Tim) Pike of Richmond. Five greatgrandchildren: Chase, Carson, Chloe, Logan, and Josh Barnett, and four step-great grandchildren Blake and Tori Quinton and Kaleb and Kamden Pike. Two brothers: Ernest and Howard Mobley, two sisters: Cornell Reynolds and Joyce Britton all of Harrodsburg. Two sisters-in-law Annetta Mobley and Geneva Mobley both of Indiana, and one brother-in-law Bruce DeRossett of Lexington, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Steven C. Barnett, two brothers Minor and Hanley Mobley, and a sister Kathleen DeRossett.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Robinson and Chris Holderman officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Wayne Hart, Chris Holderman, Kevin Quinton, Tim Pike, David Mobley, Tony Best, Darryl Catlett and Harry Barnett serving as active pallbearers. Larry Lance, Bobby Thompson with members of Gladhand Sunday School Class, Louis Kerick, Brent Curtsinger, Carroll Sanford, Jim Wheeler, Don Long and Nieces and Nephews serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mr. James Evans Belcher, 71, of Burgin, husband of Mary Ann Syrowski Belcher, died Friday May 27, 2011 at his residence. Born August 8, 1939 in Pike County, he was the son of the late Bernie (Bunch) and Dixie (Hackney) Belcher Mathney. He retired after thirty years from General Motors, was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church, and enjoyed working, farming, and NASCAR.

Besides his wife, Mr. Belcher is survived by one son James Scott Belcher of Burgin, one daughter Denise Lyn Belcher of Georgetown, one sister Geniva Hylton of Elkhorn City, and two grandchildren: Mikaio Salizar and Mayelia Salizar.

He was preceded in death by one brother Oral Belcher and one sister Ann Ray Bartley.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Melcher officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Amherst, Ohio. James Scott Belcher and Josh Wayman will serve as pallbearers.

Leon Gray Meeks, Jr., 87, widower of Eva Irene Cummins Meeks, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at his residence. Born February 6, 1924 in Axson, GA., he was the son of the late Leon Gray and Fannie Mae Starling Meeks, Sr. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of Mercer Masonic Lodge #777 F&AM, was retired from IBM, a member of Meadowthorpe Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed playing solitaire and bridge.

Survivors include one daughter Sherry G. Wright of Georgetown, two brothers: George Meeks of Gainesville, FL., and Jimmy Meeks of Mandarin, FL. Five sisters: Mabel Efthim of St. Louis, Helen Taylor of Jacksonville, FL., Marian Booth of Waycross, GA., Lynette Wallace of Jacksonville, FL., and Ann Williams of Gainesville, FL. Three grandchildren: Donald Gray Wright of Lexington, Eric Wright of Charleston, SC., and Jodi (Matt) Gay Wright Perry of Georgetown. Five great grandchildren: Ashley Wright, Crystal Wright, Zachary Perry, Hunter Perry, and Skylar Perry. Two great great grandchildren: Maddison Marie Cole and Michael Steven Cole, Jr.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Charles and Eddie Meeks and one sister Mary Emily Cummins.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial with military Honors will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Donald Gray Wright, Eric Wright, Van Wiley, Joe Burgin, Matt Perry, and John Paul Cummins serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Bright, Brett Bright, Paul Cummins, Eddie Cummins, Thomas Lee Cummins, Wendell Grider, Andy Efthim, George Meeks, John Cummins, Paul Sturgill, and Glenn Greathouse.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society.

Darlene James, 60, of Danville, wife of Donald Ray James died Thursday, May 19, 2011 at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born in Hamilton, Ohio on February 19, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Naomi Francis Risen and Sam Carlos. Besides being an exemplary wife, mother, and homemaker, during her lifetime, she was a Baptist and enjoyed fishing and camping.

Survivors include two daughters; Donna (Steve) Duncan of Ashland KY, and Dawn James of Danville, two sons; William Carvel (Kathy) Gibson, Randall Johnson and three sisters; Teresa (Lester) Sanders of Stanford, Joann (Doug) Lower and Pam Brooks both of Cin., Ohio, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother Sam Carlos.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Eldridge officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randall Johnson, Scott Gibson, Anthony Gibson, Steven James, Michael Johnson, Robert Haney, Bob Haney, Kenny Ward and Clayton Gibson.

Mary K. Russell, 94, widow of William Allen Russell, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born October 11, 1916 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Lee Hardin and Ruth Bell Gritton Watts. She was retired from Cricketeer, was a member of the Carpenters Christian Church, and enjoyed working in her flowers and sewing.

Survivors include her close friend Phoebe Brown and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother Allin L. Watts and five sisters: Mrs. Lewis VanPelt, Mrs. Leona Barr, Pauline Bugg, Edna Watts, and Mrs. Mildred Taylor.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Greg Warren officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Steve Taylor, Ronnie Watts, Brian Watts, Randy Fletcher, Lee Bivins and Jeffery Bivins serving as active pallbearers. Ada M. Cooksey, 86, of Harrodsburg, widow of Morgan Weldon and Lorraine Cooksey died Monday, April 25, 2011 at her residence. Ada was born January 8, 1925 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Leslie C. and Laura Mae Adams McGinnis. Ada was an employed at Cricketeer, a member of the Magnolia Street Christian Church and a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting and going to church.

Ada is survived by one step-son: James Norris (Alma) Cooksey of Willisburg, two brothers: Ernest Clay McGinnis and Jay Lee McGinnis, three sisters: Lula M. Bugg of Harrodsburg, Dorothy Foster of Hopkinsville and Betty Lou (Bob) Oswald of AZ, one granddaughter: Kimberly Lee Weldon, two step-granddaughters: Charlotte Allen and Melissa Pierce, one step-grandson: James Cooksey, Jr, two great-grandchildren: Rick Allen and Killian Pierce, several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Donald Winston Weldon and Warnell E. Weldon, one brother: David Lee McGinnis and two sisters: Margaret Lee (Virgil) Prewitt and Mary Louise (Gorman) Campbell.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M., April 28, 2011 at the Magnolia Street Christian Church with Caleb Penwell and Greg Bowen officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Mike Hreha, Roger Hardin, Dion Long, Bud Isham and Rick Allen serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Willing Workers Sunday School Class at the Magnolia Street Christian Church.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home and after 12:00 noon Thursday at the Magnolia Street Christian Church. Gertrude Dalton Brown Reed, beloved wife of Clifford G. Reed, and mother of Myra Ann Reed Prewitt, died Saturday, April 23, 2011 at her residence. A native of Harrodsburg, living on Poplar Street her entire life, she was born on September 4, 1917, daughter of the late J. Eli and Gertrude Brown. A 1938 graduate of Centre College, she worked with her father in the Mercer County National Bank. After the birth of her daughter, she became a homemaker. She was a lifelong, active member of the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church where she was an elder, served on the Flower Committee, Memorial Committee, led Children’s Church, and was a faithful member of the Kate Riker Circle.

She is survived by her husband, Clifford Reed, a daughter, Myra Ann Reed Prewitt (Lewis) of Midway, two granddaughters, Ann Lewis Denton (Matt) of Lexington, and Sarah Elizabeth Prewitt of Lexington. Nieces, Linda Rue Allen (Jacob) of New York City, Joan Rue (Marc Schlackman) of Lexington and Trudy Thomas (Bill) of Hamilton, VA.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Frances Brown Rue (Skip) and Sarah Brown Van Arsdale (Jim).

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andy Wing and Rev. Stephanie Wing officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Andy Harris, Tom Lynn, Patrick Hatchett, David Prewitt, Marc Schlackman, Alan Whitenack, Matt Denton, and Tyler Alexander serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Current and Former Members of the Kate Riker Circle, Bobbi Rightmyer, Howard Howells, and Harold Davis.

Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church, 326 South Main Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.
