Cecil Ray Hendren, Jr., 62, of Lexington, died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at his residence. Born June 15, 1948 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Beulah Mae Hill Hendren of Lexington and the late Cecil Hendren. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam, had done Masonry Work, and was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church.

Besides his mother, Cecil is survived by one daughter Melissa Gullett Christopher of Harrodsburg, one grandson Christopher Blake Gullett of Harrodsburg; two nephews Teddy Cleveland Hendren of Lexington and Christopher Mayes of Florida, and one niece Sunshine Nichols of Georgetown.

He was preceded in death by one brother Teddy Hendren.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Matthew Cole officiating. Burial will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens with Alan Sparks, Todd Hill, James Hill, Mark Craig and Joe Craig serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 12:00 noon Wednesday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Carroll, James Lee

July 17, 1944 - February 17, 2011

James Lee Carroll, 66, husband of Maxie Stapleton Carroll, died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born July 17, 1944 in Garrard County, he was the son of Lilly Powell Carroll of Lawrenceburg and the late James William Carroll. He was retired from the Boilermakers Union after Thirty-Five Years and was a member of the Burnside Masonic Lodge #634. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors.

Survivors other than his mother and wife include one daughter Elizabeth Carroll of Stamping Ground, two sons: Richard (Carol) Stapleton of Lexington, Michael (Kelley) Stapleton of Harrodsburg, and close family friend Jimmy (Brigette) Howard of Harrodsburg. Several brothers, sisters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his "Baby" Dog, Molly Marie.

He was preceded in death by one son Jessie Carroll.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with John Westerfield officiating. Burial will be in Lawrenceburg Cemetery with Scott Patton, Stanley Patton, Edwin Riley, Delaine Christopher Riley, Steve Brogle, and Ronnie Broce serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Delaine Riley, E.J. Riley, Otis Knox, and R.D. Knox.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday and after 7:00 a.m. Monday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. A Boilermakers Rites Service will be performed 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home.

Smoot, Clarinda May

Clarinda May Smoot, 85, wife of 59 years to Ellsworth Smoot of Harrodsburg died Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. May was born July 23, 1925 in Liverpool, England. She was the daughter of the late David Thomas and Clarinda Rhone Pritchard. She was a member of the Benton Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a retired employee of the Second National Bank, a Kentucky Colonel and lover of animals and the outdoors.

In addition to her husband May is survived by one son: David (Libby) Smoot of Lexington, one daughter: Dana Smoot (Jeff) Hammons of Laurel County, two grandchildren: Matthew Smoot and Clark Kendall, two great grandchildren: Julia and Olivia Smoot, a host of nieces and nephews also survive, among whom are four that reside in England.

She was preceded in death by a brother David Pritchard and a sister Patricia Jennings.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Tim Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Tony Best, David Best, Mike Hudson, Jack Herring, David Warner serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Monday, February 14, 2011 and after 7:00 A. M. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the Mercer County Humane Society in honor of May Smoot.

Chumbley, Loydie Ethel Gossett

Loydie Ethel Gossett Chumbley, 90, widow of Elvert Chumbley, died Thursday Feb. 10, 2011 at Harrodsburg Health Care in Harrodsburg. She was born July 2, 1920 in Casey County to the late Rass Manford Gossett and Viola Eastham Gossett. She was retired from the Boyle County School System, was a member of Salt River Baptist in Boyle County and had attended Somerset Active Day Program in Somerset.

Survivors include one son Leonard (Patricia) Chumbley of Harrodsburg. Three daughters: Ethel Kendall of Somerset, Olene Dials (Ed) of Lady Lake, FL. and Janet Young (Damon) of Georgetown. A son-in-law Steve Anderson and a daughter-in-law Shirley Chumbley. Ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren also survive

One son Phillip Lowell Chumbley and a daughter Linda Anderson preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Lowell Gossett officiating. Burial will be in Birdie Russell Cemetery in Casey County with Adam Chumbley, Jared Cocanougher, Phillip Chumbley, Shane Noel, Hunter Kendrick, Dustin Anderson, Lucas Noel, Toby Chumbley serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday and after 7:00 a.m. Monday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Velma Jean Douglas, 78, widow of Earl Douglas, died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Charleston Health Care Center in Danville. Born February 1, 1933 in Lebanon, KY., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Shelton and Bessie Beatrice Hafley Russell. She was a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church.

Mrs. Douglas is survived by her daughter Becky (Marty) Milburn of Harrodsburg and son William Shelton Douglas of San Francisco, CA. One brother Gilbert Russell of Hustonville and three sisters: June Allison of Gallatin, TN, Mary Ann Reeves of Danville, and Helen Vanoy of Junction City. Two grandchildren Corey Douglas Milburn and Carissa Thomas Milburn both of Harrodsburg and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by two brothers Elmer Thomas Russell and Ray Shelton Russell.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Ernest Martin and Bro. Lewis Walter officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with David Reeves, Brian Vanoy, Randall Russell, Tyler Wash, Bobby Reeves, and Timothy Combs serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mr. Cecil Thurman, 88, husband of the late Pauline Bailey Thurman, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Born October 18, 1922 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Murphy and Myrtle Huffman Thurman. He was a retired Supervisor for the Kentucky Department of Transportation, was a member of the Anderson Christian Church, was an accomplished Fiddle Player having won several contests.

Survivors include his two sons: Bobby (Sandy) Thurman of Lawrenceburg and Kelly Wayne Thurman of Harrodsburg. Three daughters: Bonnie (Paul) Crouch of Lawrenceburg, Kaye Woods of Harrodsburg and Faye Price also of Harrodsburg. Six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter also survive.

A private funeral service will be held at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Sandra Lee Hutchinson Sabo, 63, wife of Tony Sabo, Jr. of Jenkins, Kentucky died Friday, January 28, 2011 at Letcher Manor Nursing Home. Born March 9, 1947 in Chapmanville, West Virginia, Sandra was the daughter of the late Lucas Gray and Herma Louise Beckett Hutchinson. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Myra, Kentucky.

In addition to her husband, Sandra is survived by two children: Michael Anthony Sabo and Cari Suzanne Sabo Rice, one brother: Charles Hutchinson, one sister: Marion Morgan and two grandchildren: Megan Delaney Rice and Ashley Paige Rice.

A memorial service will conducted 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Faith Baptist Church in Myra, Kentucky.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to: Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, 800 South Limestone Street, 204 Sanders-Brown Building, Lexington, KY 40536.

Judith Powell, 63, widow of Kenneth Lester Powell, died Thursday, January 27, 2011 at her residence. Born January 14, 1948 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Lee and Anna Pearl Devine Noel. She retired after several years with Powell Oil Company in Harrodsburg, was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include one son Mark Noel Powell of Harrodsburg, two daughters: Kendra Joy (Randy) Connelly of Salvisa and Leigh Ann Robinson of Harrodsburg. Two brothers Buford (Betty) Noel and Bruce (Glenda) Noel all of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren: Mollie Robinson, Hunter Robinson, Jenna Connelly, Jasa Connelly, Jo Beth Connelly, and Lucas Cole Powell also survive.

A graveside funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg with Bro. Arnold Moon and Rick Snyder officiating. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Noel, Donald Logue, Darrell Noel, Tommy Dale Collard, Jeff Stumph, and Randy Connelly.

No visitation will be held prior to the funeral service.

James Walter Edwards, 72, of Harrodsburg died Monday, January 24, 2011. Born March 17, 1938 in Boyle County, James was the son of the late Aubrey LaFayette and Hazel Honaker Edwards. He was a self-employed auto body mechanic. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and NASCAR racing.

James is survived by three sons: James Ricky (Kimberly Ann) Edwards, Donald Wayne Edwards and Danny Ray (Cynthia Bernice) Edwards all of Harrodsburg, one daughter: Debra Fay (Homer, Jr.) White of Harrodsburg, two brothers: Carl Edwards and Dewey Ronald Edwards both of Frankfort, one sister: Maxine Goode of Eminence, KY, thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by one grandson: Brandon Scott Edwards and two brothers: Randall and Jackson Edwards.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Mike Herring, Jeremiah Edwards, Joseph Edwards, Jason Daily, Scotty Baker, Steve Watts, and Daniel Edwards serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Gordon Beasley, 52, husband of Lisa Maitlen Beasley, died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born April 10, 1958 in Lynn, Indiana, he was the son of Earl Gordon and Shirley Kennedy Beasley, Sr. both of Crab Orchard. He was currently enrolled at Bluegrass Community and Technical College and had worked at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. Gordon enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Besides his wife and parents, Gordon is survived by one daughter Samantha Sparkman of Crab Orchard, one step-daughter Ciara Browning of Harrodsburg, one step-son Dylan Hawes of Harrodsburg, one brother Alan Beasley of California, two sisters; Jill Beasley of Nicholasville and Monica Kirby of Lexington. Two grandchildren: Nevaeh and Isaac Sparkman, and nephew Nicholas Beasley and niece Jamie Duncan also survive.

A memorial service will be held 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
