Susan Leona Gullett Francis, 58, of Harrodsburg, widow of Wendell Rickey Francis died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born, July 17, 1952 in Mercer County, Susan was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Bell Reed Gullett. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.

Susan is survived by one daughter: Krystal Francis-Blackburn of Harrodsburg, one grandchild: Elysha Blackburn, one daughter-in-law: Davida Blackburn, four brothers: Troy Francis, Bobby (Jean), Donnie (Shirleen) and Jerry (Margaret) Gullett all of Harrodsburg, a special cousin: Patty Hall and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Melvin, Jay and Verlin Gullett.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Logue officiating. Burial will be in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery with Corey Gullett, Mark Francis, Kevin Gullett, Mike Gullett, James Gullett, Robert Gullett, Eric Gullett and Victor Francis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Gullett, Anthony Wheeler, Hubert Hall, Johnny Brim, Hugh Raider and Glenn Francis.

Visitation will be 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Sunday, January 9, 2011 and after 7:00 A.M. Monday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Marie Tackett, 73, died Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born March 12, 1937 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Laura Elizabeth Carey Devine. She was a retired Inspector for Corning Glass in Harrodsburg and was a member of the Dry Branch Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter: Teresa (Donnie) Butler of Harrodsburg, four brothers: William B., Omer Leon, Jimmy Bruce, and Carlos Lynn Devine all of Harrodsburg. One sister Betty Jean Peavler of Harrodsburg, one grandson Chad (Barbara) Steele of Harrodsburg, one great granddaughter Cierra Renae Steele of Harrodsburg, special friends April Jones and children, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother R.C. Devine, one sister Dorothy Releford, and one son Roger Dale Tackett.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Derek Baker officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Ronnie Devine, Mike Sinkhorn, Ronnie Peavler, George Allen Devine, Bruce Devine, Arvid Tackett, Hobert Proctor, and Charlie Peel serving as active pallbearers. Robert Peavler will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mrs. Stella Stagner Quinn, 73, widow of Robert Lee Quinn, died Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born September 14, 1937 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Freeman and Eloise Harrison Stagner. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Stella loved reading, cooking, collecting cook books and china dolls, watching U.K. Basketball, going to yard sales, and being surrounded by the ones she loved.

Survivors include two sons: John William Quinn of Harrodsburg and Cecil Quinn of Florida. One daughter Janet (Danny) Lister of Harrodsburg, three sisters: Mollie (Pete) Whittney of Georgia, Rosa (Robert) Clausen of Florida, and Rita (Joe) Hamilton of Harrodsburg. Nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by one son Robert Lee Quinn, Jr., and one brother John Freeman Stagner.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Logue officiating. Burial will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens with Thomas Stewart, Carter Lister, Joe Hamilton, Robert Clausen, Pat Lear, Anthony Redford, Travis Quinn, and Paul Wilham serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 1, 2011 and after 10:00 a.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Debbie Ann Sadler, 38, daughter of John and Mary Evelyn Steele Sadler of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Born August 4, 1972 in Mercer County, she was a student at Kentucky State University, a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church in Harrodsburg, was a world traveler, and staunch Democrat.

Besides her parents, Debbie is survived by her sister Stacy Sadler (Phillip) Bush of Lawrenceburg, one brother Justin (Tamara) Sadler of Mercer County, and five nephews Cameron Sadler, Christian Sadler, Jobe Bush, Henry Bush, and Shane Sadler.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Ehr officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Phillip Bush, Timmy Rogers, Steven Terhune, Shane Sallee, Randy Steele, and Ronnie Steele serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until hour of service on Monday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.

Thurman, Pauline Bailey

Pauline Bailey Thurman, 87, died Saturday, December 25, 2010 at her residence. Born December 29, 1922 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Allie B. and Margaret Case Bailey. She was a homemaker and a member of the Anderson Christian Church. She enjoyed trail riding with her friends and also had won numerous awards showing her Racking Horses.

Survivors include her husband of Seventy-Two Years, Cecil Carl Thurman of Harrodsburg, two sons: Bobby (Sandy) Thurman of Lawrenceburg and Kelly Wayne Thurman of Harrodsburg. Three daughters: Bonnie (Paul) Crouch of Lawrenceburg, Kaye Woods of Harrodsburg and Faye Price also of Harrodsburg. Six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Vern Huber officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Kevin Kirkland, Jerry Shryock, Colby Elliott, and Doug Price serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422 and/or a church of one’s choice.

Gary R. Tackett, 62, died Friday, December 24, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born April 13, 1948 in Pike County, he was the son of Orbe and Marmie Roberts Tackett. He was a Baptist, a retired Blacktopper having worked for Pheonix Paving and Owen Stanley Paving. Gary loved all U.K. Sports, traveling, hunting, and fishing.

Survivors include one daughter Cheri (Barry) Pike of Danville, two brothers: Arvid (Ruby) Tackett of Harrodsburg and John Holt of Minnesota. Five sisters: Marcella White of Lancaster, Joyce Hall of Harrodsburg, Jean (Jerry) Compton of Harrodsburg, Linda (Dennis) Shewmaker of Harrodsburg, and Patricia Yeast of Harrodsburg. Two grandsons Andrew and Dustin Pike, and one great great granddaughter Kiya Pike. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Richard and Orville Tackett.

Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. No funeral service will be conducted.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.

Eddie Eugene Lawson, 67, widower of Janice Peacock Lawson of Knoxville, TN. died Friday, December 24, 2010 at his residence. Born October 26, 1943 Eddie is the son of Savannah L Vaughn of Knoxville, TN and Colston Lawson of Corbin, KY. He was a retired truck driver for the Hess Co., a Protestant and enjoyed working on cars and military documentaries.

In addition to his parents Eddie is survived by a daughter: Sally Christine Lawson McFarlane of California, a sister: Marilyn C. Lawson Gazikas of Knoxville, Tennessee, one granddaughter: Amanda McFarlane of California and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Keith Weldon officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Jesse Johnson, Lonnie Grayson, Petie Lewis, James Lee Taylor, Christopher Linton and Cody Linton serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 until the time of service at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Ernestine Mae Hammons, 91, widow of Henry Hammons, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born December 28, 1918 in Spencer County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Edward and Myrtle Mae Franklin Ross. She was a retired Computer Tester with IBM and was a member of the Mackville Christian Church. She was preceded in death by two children: Thomas Edward Edwards and Mary Elizabeth Edwards.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 24, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Cemetery in Georgetown, KY with Sandy Carey, Randy Gabhart, Andrew Miller, Charles Miller, Larry Miller, Doug Pinkston, Donnie Settles, Lanny Sutton, and Ken Young serving as pallbearers.

James Davis “Jakie” Claunch, 92, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. Born March 10, 1918 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Jakie and Eunie Hatchell Claunch. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater and was retired from Kroger. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. Jakie was an avid fisherman and loved participating in and watching sports.

Survivors include his wife of Sixty-Five Years Opal Patterson Claunch and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial with military Honors will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Huntley Royalty, Billy Claunch, Dale Darland, Brad Barnett, Chad Barnett, Wayne Hart, Chuck Robinson, and Chris Holderman serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Garnett Mobley, Aaron Gray, Larry Royalty, Monte Hart, Darty Hart, John Trisler, Bob Hunt, Genie Sims, and Doug Robinson.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service Thursday, December 23 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Donna Gayle Higginbotham, 64, of Harrodsburg, widow of Jerry Higginbotham died Monday, December 20, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born October 29, 1946 in Mercer County, Donna was the daughter of the late John T. and Annelle Cosby Thompson. She was an employee of the Gateway Grocery Store, attended the Shakertown Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time with her family.

Donna is survived by two daughters: Tammy Higginbotham Nichols of Danville and Carla Higginbotham of Harrodsburg, one brother: Lee (Pam) Thompson of Harrodsburg and two sisters: Ann (Lonnie) Harley and Pam (Steve) Lyons both of Harrodsburg. She is also survived by two grandchildren: Nathan (Brittany) Nichols and Kirsten Nichols, two great grandchildren: Makayla and Makenzie Nichols, two aunts and several cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Sonny Thompson, Paul Harley, John Michael Lyons, Jordon Lyons, Chris Higginbotham and Kevin Higginbotham serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Harley, John Caroll Spaulding, Steven Reed, Lee Thompson, Lonnie Harley, Stephen Lyons, Nathan Nichols and Michael Higginbotham.

Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 and after 7:00 A.M. Wednesday until the time of service.
