Dorothy Rae Gowins, 83, widow of Hershel Allen “Tal” Gowins, died Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born August 21, 1926 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Rastus and Bessie Walls Wells. She was retired after twenty six years at Cricketeer, was a member of the Cornishville Christian Church, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and cooking.

Survivors include two sons: Tony (Brenda) Gowins of Harrodsburg and Larry (Debbie) Gowins of Mt. Washington. One daughter Jo Ann (Kelly) Bowman of Harrodsburg, one brother Cletus (Betty) Wells of Lawrenceburg, two sisters: Gertie (Evel) Satterly of Lawrenceburg and Onita (Carl) McGauhey of Frankfort. Six grandchildren, three step grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Donald Litteral and Leonard Price officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Troy Gowins, Larry Wayne Gowins, Michael Gowins, Terry Coslow, Dennis Coslow, and Travis Gowins serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Stagner, Dollie Dell

October 22, 1932 - June 26, 2010

Dollie Dell Stagner, 77, of Burgin, widow of both James C. Stagner and John F. Stagner, died Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born October 21, 1932 in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Richard M. and Nannie Grimes Cheatham. She was a retired Caregiver, a member of Ellers Memorial Baptist Church, enjoyed cooking, baking, playing bingo, cards, and volleyball.

Survivors include one son David A. (Lisa) Stagner of Burgin and one daughter Marsha S. (Gary) Royalty also of Burgin. Four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her special friend William Buchanan also survive.

She was preceded in death by one son Richard Stagner. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Al Giesler officiating. Burial will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Stagner’s grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Heritage Hospice, P.O. Taylor, Michael

Michael Taylor, 40, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, June 21, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born January 16, 1970 in Lexington, he was the son of Wallace L. Taylor and the late Margaret G. Goforth Taylor.

He was a construction worker, a member of Southside Christian Church, he enjoyed detailing cars and hot rods.

Survivors besides his father include three sons: Joseph Taylor of Harrodsburg, Christopher Taylor of Salvisa, and Wallace Matthew Taylor of Salvisa. One daughter Mallie Taylor of Salvisa, three brothers James Leon (Laurie) Taylor of Taylorsville, N.C., Wayne (Angela) Taylor of St. Augustine, FL., and David Taylor of Green Cove Springs, FL. One sister Valerie (Jimmy) Edwards of St. Augustine, FL., and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Matthew Robbins officiating. No visitation will be held.

Gibson, Mary Thomas

Mary Thomas Gibson, 76, of Harrodsburg, widow of James Gibson, Jr. died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born November 11, 1933 in Mercer County, Mary was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rosie Moore Hardin. She was a retired housekeeper for the Bright Leaf Resort in Harrodsburg, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and enjoyed canning.

Mary is survived by two sons: James Michael Gibson of Harrodsburg and Garret Martin Gibson of Salvisa, four daughters: Sandra Medley of Danville, Karen Taylor of Mooreland, Teresa Laymon and Conda Adams both of Harrodsburg, twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M., Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Brad King officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with her grandsons Clint Medley, Mike Medley, Dale Taylor, Josh Taylor, Damian Laymon and Brandon Adams serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Kelvin Lee Devine, 46, of Stanford, husband of Jo Ann Fox Devine died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at his residence. Born September 1, 1964 in Mercer County, Kelvin was the son of William B. Devine of Harrodsburg and Joyce Simpson Hill of Danville. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

In addition to his wife and parents Kelvin is survived by three sons: Eric Devine of Harrodsburg, Daniel and Brandon Fox both of Stanford, two daughters: Leann Dennis and Connie Simpson both of Stanford, two brothers: George Devine of Harrodsburg and Keithy Devine of Danville, two sisters: Garnetta Benge and Sheila Lunsford both of Junction City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 25, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Jeremy James officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Daniel Fox, Johnathan Devine, Brandon Johnson, Harold Partin, Phillip Caudill, Aaron Moore and Brad Moore serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Carol Joann Dennis, 75, of Harrodsburg, widow of Herbert Dennis, Jr. died Thursday, June 17, 2010 at her residence. Born February 5, 1935 in Mackville, Joann was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Ruby A. Fowler Isham. Joann was a former waitress at Stone Manor Restaurant for many years and a retired cashier at Gateway and also was a private sitter. She was a member of the Cornishville Baptist Church and enjoyed her children and grandchildren.

Joann is survived by three sons: Steven Wayne Dennis, Mark Dennis and James Douglas Dennis all of Harrodsburg, three daughters: Janet Carol Hardin, Sandra Gwen Coffman and Pamela Ann Kendrick all of Harrodsburg, six sisters: Doris Dennis of Louisville, Jane Traynor of Midway, Kay Boswell Traynor of Springfield, Donna Harmon of Mackville, Betty Burton of Harrodsburg and Mary K Jones of Danville, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother, father and husband Joann is preceded in death by one son: Bobby Allen Dennis, two brothers: Billy C. Isham and Jimmy R. Isham, and one grandson: Richard Joseph Dennis.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M., Monday, June 21, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial will be in the Peters Cemetery in Mackville with Mick Caudill, Rickey Spain, Sean Sanders, John Sanders, Daniel Miller and Chip Hartman serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Darland, Angela Dawn Bottom, Ammie Jo Dennis, Anthony Dennis and Robert Dennis.

Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Monday, June 21, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mr. Walter Best, 95, widower of Gladys Bishop Best whom he was married to for 55 years, died Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born October 28, 1914 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James Burnett and Vica Bottom Best. Walter was a farmer, carpenter and a floor manager of Hollis Moberly and Freeman’s Tobacco Warehouse. He traveled to Madison, FL from 1971 till 1981 to manage the tobacco warehouse floor for Freeman’s. He was the oldest member of the Mackville Baptist Church.

Walter is survived by a special niece: Jana (fiancé David Harbolt) Cocanougher Peavler, a special great nephew: Jamie Peavler, a special great niece: Amber Peavler, one sister: Eunice Best Cocanougher and one brother: Billy (Zella) Best.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Elmer and Edward (Ebb) Best, one sister: Ada Jewel Bishop and a great nephew: Don Allen Peavler

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 21, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial will be in the Peters Cemetery in Mackville with Eugene Bishop, Jamie Peavler, Dennis Cocanougher, Gary Bishop, Milward Dedman, and Ronnie Best serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews: Janet Best Harmon, Patsy Best Harmon, Bernice Best Tucker, Brenda Bishop Ludwick, Larry Bishop, W.D. Cocanougher Jr., Jimmy Cocanougher, Bonnie Best Pillars and Mary Anne Best. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2010 and after 7:00 a.m. Monday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Lloyd Shewmaker 98 of Burgin, died Saturday June 12, 2010 at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 28, 1911 in Washington County to the late Walter and Mayme Bottoms Shewmaker. He had attended University of KY, served during WWII in Saipan with the U.S. Army. A member of the Mackville Baptist Church, and a retired building contractor. He built several churches and was a well known clock builder.

Survivors include: one son Mitch Shewmaker (Sue) of Louisville, KY, one daughter Ann Shewmaker Boswell of Georgetown, KY. Five grandchildren and seven grandchildren also survive.

One daughter Carolyn Skimmerhorn, one son Lloyd Shewmaker and one grandchild preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday June 15, 2010 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Donnie Releford. Interment will be in Peters Cemetery in Mackville.

Visitation 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Hendren, Teddy Brady

Teddy Brady Hendren, 53 of Lexington, widower of Vivian Crawley, died Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born August 5, 1956 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Cecil Hendren and Beulah Mae Hill Hendren of Harrodsburg. He was a retired Stone Mason, a Baptist, enjoyed Bingo, fishing, and his automobiles.

Besides his mother, Teddy is survived by two sons: Christopher May of Florida and Teddy Cleveland Hendren of Lexington. One daughter Sunshine Brady Ann (Damien) Nichols of Georgetown, one brother Cecil Ray Hendren of Lexington, two grandchildren: Lainey Ann Yates and Chloe Brooke Yates both of Georgetown, and one niece also survives.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Pastor Rodney Mason and Rev. James H. Stowe officiating. Burial will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens with Mark Craig, Joe W. Craig, Hunter Bradley Craig, Payton Craig, Vern Daley, Damien Lee Nichols, and Darrell Wayne Tackett serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

David Nelson Ison age 64 of Harrodsburg, died Friday June 11, 2010 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Lexington. He was born May 12, 1946 in Harrodsburg to James H. Ison of Harrodsburg and the late Eula Rue Ison. A veteran the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He was a retired electrician, enjoyed hunting and fishing. A member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints.

In addition to his father he is survived by one daughter Angel Myers of Junction City. Three sons: Jacob Dewayne Ison, David Bryan Ison and James Lynn Ison all of Junction City, KY. Three sisters: Cathy Knight of NC, Jean Conaster of TN. and Sallie Phelps of Hawaii. Two brothers: Larry Ison of Harrodsburg and Mike Ison of Junction City. Seven grandchildren, one great grand child and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Tuesday June 15, 2010 at the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints 111 Water Works Road Danville, KY. by Bishop Jeff Tritapoe and Andrew Myers. Pallbearers will be Larry Ison, Mike Ison, Jacob Ison, David Bryan Ison, James Lynn Ison. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with military Rites.

Visitation Monday 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
