Jacob Aaron Gunkel, infant son of Heather Louise Southers and Joshua Aaron Gunkel died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Jacob was born June 3, 2010 in Danville, Kentucky.

Survivors in addition to his parents are one sister: Bailey Floyd of Burgin, his maternal grandparents: Lois (Tilton) Bradshaw of Harrodsburg and Tom Southers of Burgin, his paternal grandparents: Sandra Kay Gunkel and Clifford Dale Gunkel of Burgin, his maternal great-grandmother: Barbara Stinnett of Burgin and his maternal great-grandparents: Bill and Shelia Southers also of Burgin. Jacob is also survived by several cousins.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Bro. Randy Myers officiating.

Nettie Kurtz Scott, devoted wife of Archie Scott for 69 years, departed this life Wednesday, June 2, at the age of 93. She leaves behind two daughters: Sandra Scott, who shared their home in Burgin, and Pat Scott of Garrard County; a brother, Lee (Rhoda) Kurtz, Lancaster; and a sister, Bessie Kellar, Knoxville,TN. She had three grandchildren, Jana (Steve) Fortner, and Hayliegh and Adam Scott, all of Garrard County. She had two great-grandsons, Ryan and Jay Fortner, 13 nieces and nephews, and a heartful of dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jim; her parents, Handy and Mattie Kurtz; and sisters Margaret Edwards, Lucille Crutchfield, Elizabeth Peterman, and Lowie Clary.

Nettie was an active member of the Mercer Church of Christ. She was a registered nurse, trained at WKU and employed in public health in Dallas, TX, and in several hospitals. She was a thoughtful Bible student and teacher who touched the lives of many people all over the world. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Mercer Church of Christ in Harrodsburg with Rick Leach officiating. Burial will be in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

Maurice Evan Turner, 64, husband of Connie Elliott Turner, died Saturday, May 29, 2010 at his home in Montgomery, Texas. Born July 29, 1945 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Nellie Rae Kinder Turner of Harrodsburg and the late Ralph Ernest Turner. He was a retired Project-Design Engineer with Whirlpool Corporation, was a Baptist, and a member of the Official NASCAR Association.

Besides his wife and mother, Maurice is survived by two daughters: Angela Turner (Karl) Kederis of Lexington, and Kristin Turner (Steve) Kim of Spring, TX. One brother David Howard Turner of Birmingham, AL., five grandchildren: Slayman Ali, Yasmine Ali, Robert Kederis, Nathan Kederis, and Maya Kim.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Marty Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Karl Kederis, Steve Kim, Slayman Ali, Allen Turner, Matt Wood, and Billy Abell serving as active pallbearers. Robert Kederis and Nathan Kederis will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday and after 7:00 a.m. Monday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jonnetta N. Lear, 77, wife of John E. “Pat” Lear of Burgin died Monday, May 24, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born February 7, 1933 in Garrard County she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Margaret Askins Naylor. Jonnetta was a forty year employee of the Farmers Bank in Burgin, where she served as Assistant Vice President. She was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, Jonnetta is survived by one niece and four great nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Carl McCray officiating. Burial will be in the Burgin Memorial Gardens with Rice Lear, Matthew Todd, Tyler Williamson, Roy Lee Sanders, Granville Sherrow, Rueben Naylor, Curtis Bailey and William Lee Hayslett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Donna Hayslett, Judy Royalty, David and Dottie Sims, Bob and Jane Williams, Bob and Mary Cecil Thompson, Mrs. Dean Shearer’s Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Brenda Carolyn Devine Sallee, 65, wife of Bobby Gene Sallee died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at the University Of Kentucky Medical Center. Born November 6, 1944 in Mercer County Brenda was the daughter of the late Cecil and Ella Devine. She was a homemaker. She was also a nurse’s aide at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital and with McDowell Home Health. Brenda was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing, basket collecting and cooking.

In addition to her husband Brenda is survived by one son: Brent (Patty) Sallee of Harrodsburg, one daughter: Bobbi Dawn (Keith) Rightmyer of Mercer County, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one sister: Virginia (Glenn) Reynolds of Mercer County and one brother: Curtis (Adelaide) Devine of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by one daughter Amy Carter Sallee

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Ethan Sallee, Nelson Storie, Matt Storie, Bill Spears, Larry Reed and Keith Rightmyer serving as pallbearers

Ethel L. Peavler Hamm left her earthly family and friends Wednesday, May 19, 2010. She was the daughter of the late A.G. And Rosie Lee Peavler.

She leaves behind her husband Willard and her only child Karen Hamm. She was preceded in death by a son Darrell Wayne. Also surviving are two sisters Shirley Knickerbocker and Brenda Carpenter both of Mercer County. Also her constant companions Misty, Harley, Savannah, Patches, Meade, and Sissy.

There will be no visitation and no funeral service. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hal's Haven, a safe haven for homeless cats, at 2108 Wells Landing Road, Danville, KY 40422.

Robert Lee “Bobby” Kirkland, Jr., 64 of Harrodsburg died Monday, May 17, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care. Born April 23, 1946 in Mercer County, Bobby was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Britton Kirkland, Sr.. He was a retired Farmer and former owner of Leesburg Grocery and Farm Supply, and a member of the Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Mercer County Fish & Game Club. Bobby enjoyed Barrel Racing and gardening.

Survivors include two sons: Alex Kirkland of Oakwood Village, Ohio and Lee (Jennifer) Kirkland of Mercer County. One daughter Stephanie (Ken) Allen of Mercer County, three sisters: Lorraine Adkins, Lorretta Vandivier, and Betty Tiffey all of Harrodsburg. Two grandsons Mason Lee Kirkland and Dylan Minix, and one granddaughter Alexandria Allen. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by two sisters Judy Burns and Joann Maruschak.

A Graveside funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Mike Cox officiating. No visitation will be held.

Lillie Mae Boblitt, 100, widow of Paul Boblitt, died Friday May 7, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born September 13, 1909 in Bath County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Elizabeth Barber Crouch. She was a former Grocery Store Owner and Homemaker. Mrs. Boblitt was a member of the Non-Denominational Christian Fellowship and enjoyed cooking and sewing.

Survivors include her son P.H. Boblitt of Harrodsburg, one brother Walter Crouch of Owingsville, and two sisters: Ada Marie Crouch and Ruby Crouch both of Owingsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Greg Harger and Charlie Kerr officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Doug Wilson, Marvin Crouch, Clarence Crouch, Jim Crouch, Dan Perry, Jim Klaty, Geoff Crouch serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday and after 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Ruby Catherine Carroll, 84, wife of James L. Carroll of Burgin died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born May 30, 1925 in Estill County, Ruby was the daughter of the late Joe and Jesse Connor White. She was a retired glass inspector for Corning Incorporated, attended the Church of God and enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Ruby is survived by two sons: William Thomas Carroll and Richard Carroll both of Burgin, two brothers: Robert Earl White of Harrodsburg and Homer White of Junction City. Eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Ruby was preceded in death by one son: Homer Carroll, one sister: Lucille Freeman and two brothers: James and Herbert White.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Jim Kelly Wasson, Eric Masters, Brian Hale, Chase Hale, Isaiah Smith, and Josh Smith serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Deborah H. O’Nan, 52, wife of James O’Nan, Jr. of Harrodsburg died Tuesday, April 27, 2010. Debbie was born September 14, 1957 in Lebanon, Kentucky, she is the daughter of Betty Lou Sagrecy Hardin and the late Lee Roy Hardin. She was an employee of American Greeting, a member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church. Debbie was an avid reader of all sorts of books and enjoyed collecting dolls.

In addition to her husband and mother Debbie is survived by one step-daughter: Robin O’Nan and one step-son: Jimmy O’Nan both of Harrodsburg, two brothers: Walter Hardin of Jeffersonville, KY and Raymond (Tinker) Hardin and his wife Kim Hardin of Liberty, KY, four sisters: Peggy (Connie) Phillips of Harrodsburg, Carolyn (Joe) Carrier of Winchester, Brenda Peavler of Mackville and Missy (Adam Chumbley) Hardin of Harrodsburg, two step-grandchildren: Drew and Kayleigh Meaux of Harrodsburg, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Debbie is also preceded in death by two brothers: Marty and Doug Hardin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Jeff Phillips, Josh Noel, Johnathan Hardin, Jimmy O’Nan, Adam McIver and Adam Chumbley serving as pallbearers

Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
