Nancy Air, hospital volunteer

Nancy C. Air of Crescent Springs taught her children valuable lessons about helping the sick and underprivileged during the years she volunteered at Booth Hospital and the Covington Protestant Children's Home.

Mrs. Air also taught her children that the good health and stable home they enjoyed obligated them to make the most of their advantages.

"She was loving and practical, a mother who made you do for yourself and be responsible for yourself," said her son, Dr. Gordon W. Air of Crescent Springs.

Mrs. Air died Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was 92 years old.

Mrs. Air was born icon Nancy Smith in the southern West Virginia town of Bluefield and reared in Granville, Ohio.

"My dad was a doctor and he was always busy and involved and she saw that as part of her duty," said Dr. Gordon Air.

He said his mother's commitment to duty did not mean she was a dour person. She had a wonderful, dry sense of humor and loved to read, he said.

Mrs. Air was a former board member of the Covington Protestant Children's Home.
