Delbert Lee Wesley, 66, of Dry Ridge, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday in an accident near Verona.

He was a retired carpenter and a member of Bethel Ridge Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Ann Wesley; a son, Danny Lee Wesley of Glencoe; daughters, Betty Sue Ross and Beverly Ann Dallas, both of Dry Ridge; sisters, Juanita Wesley of Columbus, Ind., Lonnie Kathryn Ellison of Mount Olive, Audrey Foster of Science Hill, Mary Emmerson of Somerset and Cora May Holder of Mittenville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.

Elwood 'Snakey' Wilson, meat store owner, pitcher

Elwood "Snakey" Wilson spent more than 30 years behind the counter of his store on Ninth Street in Newport.

Mr. Wilson and his wife, Ruth Demler Wilson, opened Wilson Meats in the mid 1940s and operated it until 1980.

"They worked together side by side in that store for all those years," said their son Robert Wilson, of Cold Spring. The couple was married 64 years.

Mr. Wilson, 85, of Fort Thomas, died at 1:45 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

In addition to being remembered in connection with the meat store, Mr. Wilson's peers will remember his ability on the softball field. He played fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball in the 1940s and 1950s, when Northern Kentucky was known nationally for excellent softball. Mr. Wilson re ceived his nickname, Snakey, because of the movement on the ball when he pitched fast-pitch. He was a member of the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame.

Mr. Wilson loved to fish and hunt when he was young and loved being around people.

He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and his son Robert, survivors include a daughter, Beverly Pelle of Fort Thomas; son Larry Wilson of Greer, S.C.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Beulah A. Alexander, 76, of Warsaw, died Saturday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Harvey Alexander; daughters, Barbara Reiner of Brookville, Ind., Karlyn Turocy of Campbellsburg and Sherry Schachleiter of Aurora, Ind.; a son, Wayne McFarland of Defoe; brothers, George Webster of Warsaw and Tom Webster of Madison, Ind.; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial was in Paint Lick Cemetery, Warsaw.

Laurel "Curly" Ballinger, 64, of Frankfort, formerly of Owen County, died Thursday at Bradford Square Health Care Center in Frankfort. She was a former employee of Kenwell Industries and Bendix Manufacturing companies.

Survivors include a son, Billy Ray Ballinger of Monterey; stepsons, Ronald New and David New, both of Monterey; a daughter, Lori Ballinger of Frankfort; brothers, Westley Ballinger, Charles Ballinger, James Ballinger, Danny Ballinger and Kenneth Ballinger, all of Frankfort; sisters, Mildred Robinson, Rosemary Dews, Joan Penn, Linda Leitch and Janet Johnson, all of Frankfort, and Marsette Harris of Lake Charles, La.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Monterey Masonic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Bradford Square Health Care, 1040 U.S. Highway 127, South, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.

Loretta Bernens, 95, of Fort Mitchell, died Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Walter Bernens, preceded her in death.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 0 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Edith M. Brown, 70, of Verona, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was an order filler with Levi Strauss Co. A son, James Michael Brown, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Jeanie Ermer of Vevay, Ind., Jewell Gilbert of Dry Ridge and Jackie Hacker of Burlington; sons, Joey Brown of Shepherd, Texas, and Jeff Brown of Verona; a brother, Floyd Conrad of Williamstown; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes. Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45069.

Betty K. Caldwell, 83, of Florence, died Wednesday at Medical Center of Southern Indiana, Charlestown, Ind. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Curtis P. Caldwell; daughters, Judy Mitchell of Perry Park and Linda Smith of Florence; a son, John Caldwell of Wallingford, Pa.; a sister, JoAnn Ames of Detroit; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Becky Lynn Cooper, 44, of Latonia, died at 10:58 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a reservation clerk with several local restaurants.

Survivors include a daughter, Teresa C. Mary Claire Jones Dougherty, 57, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired data entry employee with the Internal Revenue Service, Covington.

Survivors include a daughter, Christine Hammer of California; sons, Anthony Dougherty of Erlanger, Joseph Dougherty of Fort Mitchell and Thomas Dougherty of Wagener, S.C.; brothers, Ed Jones of Golden Valley, Ariz., Al Jones of Issaquah, Wash., Tom Jones of Dillsboro, Ind., and Bill Jones of Clarksville, Tenn.; sisters, Flora Spille of Elsmere, Liz Nelson of Crescent Springs and Lucy Griggs of Murray; and five grandchildren.

Mary Jane Gesling Gideon, 62, of Lexington, formerly of Covington, died Thursday at her home. She was a retired assistant medical administrator with Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington and a member of Crossroads Christian Church, Lexington. Her husband, Michael J. Gideon, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Diana Toles of Nicholasville and Kristi Gideon of Lexington; sons, Jack Francis Jr. and Michael Gideon, both of Lexington; a sister, Betty Ann Briggs of Defiance, Ohio; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Maryline Glover, 64, of Louisville, died Thursday at Norton Suburban Hospital, Louisville. She was a retired professor with Thomas More College and a member of Altrusa and the American Sociological Society.

Survivors include daughters, Threesae Washer-Gabbard and Terah Gill; a brother, Frank Head; a sister, Barbara Bunch; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. CST Saturday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home, Bowling Green. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Camp Nelson Cemetery. Hazel M. Gulick, 93, of Falmouth, died Thursday at Georgetown Health Care Center. She was a retired saleswoman with Conrad Hardware and Furniture Store in Falmouth, and a member of Falmouth Baptist Church and the Ladies Aid at the church. Her husband, Thomas Gulick, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Short Fitterer of Mountainside, N.J.; a brother, Clifford Callen of Hamilton, Ohio; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at noon Saturday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to Falmouth Baptist Church, 403 Maple Ave., Falmouth, Kentucky 41040.
