Betty J. Maloney, 74, of Newport, died Tuesday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Don Maloney, died in 1990.

Survivors include a son, Richard Maloney of Newport; a daughter, Donna L. Nicholas of California; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Mary Elizabeth "Granny" Miller, 85, of Augusta, died at 6:10 a.m. Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her first husband, Henry Tucker, died in 1955. Her second husband, Sylvester Miller, died in 1984.

Survivors include daughters, Valeria Jean Bell and Mary K. Fryman, both of Augusta, Carolyn Louise French of Umatilla, Fla., and Delores Ann French of Tavares, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Bobbie Jean Mazzei of Pittsburgh; a stepson, Perry Glen Miller of Falmouth; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 909 Kenton Station, Maysville, Kentucky 41056; or Make A Wish Foundation, 100 W. Clarendon, Phoenix, Ariz. 85013.

Roger Morris, 56, of Covington, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Arvella M. Ott, 84, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at Mercy Anderson Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Ott, died in 1997.

Survivors include brothers, Richard Carter of Long Beach, Calif., and Wayne Carter of Mount Orab; and sisters, JoAnn Docter of Loveland, Ohio, and Mary Emerson of Monroe, N.C.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Julius "Ralph" Overmann, 81, of Elsmere, died at 10 p.m. Tuesday at his home. He was a deliveryman with Heidelburg Distributing Co., a member of St. Henry Church and the church seniors group, and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Mary Margaret Ahlers Overmann, died in 1996.

Survivors include sons, Mark Overmann of Elsmere and Gary Overmann of Batavia, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Henry Church, Elsmere. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Home-Health Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Kentucky 41014.

Frances L. Patrick, 86, of Hamilton, Ohio, died Friday at Butler County Care Center in Hamilton. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Kenneth A. Patrick, and son, Charles E. Brandenburg Jr., both preceded her in death.

Survivors include sisters, Virginia Schweitzer of Highland Heights and Lillian Belew; and three grandchildren.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Zettler Funeral Home, Hamilton, is handling arrangements.

Sandra J. Robinson, 62, of Dry Ridge, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown.

Mary Elizabeth Stribling, 105, of Cleveland, formerly of Covington, died Sunday at her home. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as the church secretary, a Sunday school teacher and usher. Her husband, Dr. Sim Stribling, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a niece, Nancy Fletcher of Cleveland.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones & Simpson Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Edward L. Tippitt, 74, of Chillicothe, Ohio, died at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was a retired factory worker an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Marion Tippitt, died in 1969.

Survivors include sons, Larry Tippitt and Richard Tippitt, both of Covington; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Russell Whitson, 75, of Latonia, died at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.

Gerald Eckler, Funeral director

During his 29 years as a Funeral director, Gerald Philip Eckler comforted hundreds of people in times of grief.

But Mr. Eckler's sense of humor was one of his most endearing qualities, said his nephew, Jon Stephenson.

"My uncle was just always a big teaser," his nephew said. "He liked to tease everybody. . . . But he was a wonderful, caring man. When I was young my mom and dad were very poor, and he used to let me come down there and stay with them in the summer at the Funeral home."

Mr. Eckler, 87, of Carrollton, died Monday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Louisville.

Mr. Eckler retired in 1975 after 29 years as a Carrollton Funeral home owner, Funeral director and embalmer. From 1946 through 1955 he was the owner and operator of Kipping and Eckler Funeral Home, which merged with Tandy Funeral Home in 1955. The Funeral home later became Tandy-Eckler-Darnold Funeral Home, operated by Mr. Eckler and James Darnold until Mr. Eckler's retirement in 1975.

Mr. Eckler served with the hospital corps in the Philippines during World War II.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Carrollton. He was a former member of Carrollton Kiwanis Club and a charter member of Webster's Drug Store Coffee Club.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ruth T. Bingham Eckler; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Ray of Woodstock, Ga.; a brother, Don Eckler of Ghent; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Funeral home. military honors will be presented by American Legion Post No. 41, Carrollton, at the grave. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Carrollton.

Phyllis Anderson, 63, of Southgate, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

She was a waitress for the Green Derby restaurant in Newport for over 30 years.

Survivors include her daughters, Lisa Anderson and Melissa Davidson, both of Silver Grove; a son, Rick Anderson of Alexandria; sisters, Pearl Chadwell of Seymour, Ind., and Claudia Curry and Eva Jarvis, both of London; brothers, Carl Root, E. H. Root, Jimmy Root and Johnny Root, all of London; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Avis Baker, 85, of Grants Lick, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a member of the Grants Lick Baptist Church. Her husband, Arthur Baker, and a son, Arthur Garrett Baker, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Anna Burch of Grants Lick, Yvonne Mullins of Alexandria, Beverly Waldemeyer of Cumming, Ga., Norma Hafer of California and Freda Clair of Port Lucy, Fla.; sons, Hal Baker of Verona and Robert Daniel Baker of California; sisters, Josephine Hall of Trenton, Ohio, and Forestine Fallon of Lexington; a brother, Robert Little of Mount Sterling; 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.
