Albert C. Giannini, 89, of Highland Heights, died Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas. He was a retired salesman for Valley Automotive. His wife, Barbara K. Smith Giannini, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Gerry Giannini of Newport Beach, Calif.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Kentucky 41075. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Leon Lemons, 93, of Latonia, died Monday at Rosedale Manor in Latonia.

He was a retired shopman for Lingo Manufacturing, Covington.

A son, Philip Lemons, preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters, Ruby Hensley and Linda Conley, both of Independence, Bonnie Chisolm of Largo, Fla., Mary Bruck of Elsmere, Wanda Hoeter of Latonia and Teresa Davis of Taylor Mill; a son, Virgil Lemons of Alexandria; 19 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at Catchen & Son Funeral Home, Elsmere-Erlanger.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral home.

Burial will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Richard Turner Lyon, 86, of Fort Wright, died Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport.

He was retired from the IRS. He was a member of St. Agnes Parish and Knights of Columbus. His wife, Helen Lyon, preceded him in death.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.

Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to Northern Kentucky Right To Life, 509 Scott St., Covington, Kentucky 41011. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Joe A. Marsh, 76, of Cynthiana, died Tuesday at Dover Manor in Georgetown. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Unity Christian Church. A stepson, William L. Galbreath, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie McGraw Marsh; a stepson, John Brinton Galbreath of Cynthiana; daughters, Mary Joan Marsh Crawley of Vevay, Ind., Phyllis Ann Marsh Giles of Versailles, Vicki Jane Marsh Craycraft of Lexington, Kathi Galbreath Patrick of Harrison County and Martha Galbreath Whitaker of Cynthiana; a brother, Harry Marsh of Tampa, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Donny Michael Mermon, 20, of Aurora, Ind., died at 6:49 p.m. Sunday in Hamilton County, Ohio. He was a construction worker.

Survivors include his fiancee, Cary Dowdy of Aurora; his mother, Emma Kemper of Aurora; his father, Donald Barry of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; a brother, David Allen Kemper of Elsmere; and grandmothers, Lou Kemper of Petersburg and Ann Mermon of Florence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery.

Martin J. Meyer, 57, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Covington, died Nov. 1 at his home.

He was a retired gas line supervisor for Laclede Gas Company, St. Louis. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Church in Ferguson, Mo.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Hardcorn Meyer; daughters, Maria Meyer and Julie Phillips, both of St. Louis; a son, Stephen Meyer of Denver; his father, George T. Meyer of Edgewood; a brother, Jack Meyer of Spartanburg, S.C.; sisters, Mary Jo Hardcorn of Edgewood and Martha Kuchle of Fort Mitchell; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday in St. Louis.

Memorials are suggested to Elsmere Senior Center, 179 Dell Ave., Elsmere, Kentucky 41018.

Florence Morgan, 94, of Corinth, died Monday at Batavia Nursing and Convalescent Inn, Batavia, Ohio, following a long illness.

She was a retired recruiting supervisor for the Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

Survivors include four nieces.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Hill Crest Cemetery Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Dorothy A. Webber, 66, of Elsmere, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. Her husband, Henry Webber, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Julia Addington of Latonia, Mary Dieckow of Lakeside Park, Margaret Webber of Crescent Springs, Laura Wyzevich of Phoenix, Vivian Rider of Cincinnati and Sara Burress of Knoxville, Tenn.; sons, Henry Webber II of Bellevue, Daniel Webber of Elsmere and Joseph Webber of Fairfield, Ohio; sisters, Norma Miller of Cincinnati and Delora Harbison of Fort Thomas; brothers, Robert Nichols of Dayton and William Tyree of Cincinnati; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Covington.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in Baltimore Pike Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Wanda Poore Atha, teacher, won Golden Apple Award

Wanda Poore Atha excelled at nearly every endeavor she undertook.

A Pendleton County native, Mrs. Atha and her husband of 51 years, William Atha, raised sheep, cattle and tobacco for many years in Grant County.

She was honored as Kentucky Master Farm Homemaker.

Then in 1968, the family left the farm for Florence. Atha, after the age of 40, enrolled at Northern Kentucky University and received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education. She went on to win a prestigious Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching.

She taught for more than 18 years in the Boone County School District, mostly at Florence Elementary School.

Mrs. Atha, 69, died of cancer at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at her home.

Mrs. Atha was the older sister of Dr. Floyd G. Poore of Florence, a former Kentucky transportation secretary and Democratic gubernatorial candidate.

Like her brother, Mrs. Atha was a people person who made friends wherever she went, said her daughter, Cheryl Caldwell of Georgetown.

"She was rather quiet, but she was always hard-working," Ms. Caldwell said. "That was her greatest strength."

She said her mother was an excellent role model.

"She was always there for me," Ms. Caldwell said.

"She always made sure I got my projects done. She taught me to be persistent and consistent. She was a great mom. She couldn't have been better."

Mrs. Atha was a member of Florence Baptist Church.

Other survivors include her husband, William A. Atha Sr.; a son, William Allen Atha Jr. of Monterey; her stepmother, Pearl Poore of Williamstown; a brother, Ralph Poore of Florence; a sister, Jewell Martin of Williamstown; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Funeral home. Entombment will be in Highland Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Kentucky 41075.

Arthur W. Averbeck, 68, of Fort Wright, died Wednesday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a machine repairman with the Ford Motor Co., Cincinnati, and owner of Averbeck Photography. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

His wife, Anna H. Averbeck, died in 1994. A son, Dennis Anthony Averbeck, died in 1979.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence J. Averbeck of Walton; a sister, Evelyn Patton of Covington; and three grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Timothy Church, Union. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to University Hospital Congestive Heart Failure Clinic, 234 Goodman St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45267.

Catherine E. Rekers Behler, 76, of Fort Wright, died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Her husband, Walter F. Behler, and a son, Joseph Behler, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Mark A. Behler of Fort Wright, Mike Behler of Decatur, Ga., and Jerry Behler of Fort Thomas; a daughter, Mary Pat Behler of Independence; a brother, William Rekers of Taylor Mill; and three grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Agnes Church. Mrs. Behler bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Alice L. Childers, 78, of Cincinnati, formerly of Latonia, died Saturday at Vista Care Hospice, Cincinnati. She was a credit officer with Shillito's Department Store.

Survivors include her husband, George J. Childers; a daughter, Barbara J. Rendler of Newtown, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Hayes Coleman Jr., 62, of Sparta, died Saturday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. He was a member of Sparta Christian Church. A son, Gregory Allen Coleman, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lewis Coleman; daughters, Cathy Armstrong and Pam Coleman, both of Sparta; sisters, Judy Snodgrass of Maysville and Phyllis Runion of Kentucky; and two grandchildren.

Marjorie M. Heim Donovan, 77, of Crestview, died Aug. 18 at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired commercial artist with Gibson Perin Lithographers, Cincinnati.

Survivors include her husband, Charles M. Donovan.

Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 4 at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Ohio Cremation and Memorial Society, Cincinnati, is handling arrangements.

Judy Ann Dyas, 52, of Highland Heights, died Tuesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. She was a retired nurse's aide with Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport and a member of First Baptist Church, Newport.

Survivors include sons, Mike Slone of Newport, Denny Slone of Edgewood, Robert Dyas of Florence and Tim Dyas of Elsmere; daughters, Judy Dyas of Newport and Karen Spurlock of Atlanta; a sister, Carol Wells of Newport; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Kathleen Key Farrah, 86, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a former teacher. Her husband, Emerson Farrah, preceded her in death.

Louis M. Henderson, 55, of DeLand, Fla., formerly of Morning View, died at 10:45 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Hospital West Volusia in DeLand. He was a retired mechanical technician with Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, and a member of Corpus Christian Church, Cincinnati. He was a member of the COPS law enforcement program in DeLand.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Brown Webster Henderson; a son, William Roy Henderson of Chicago; daughters, Regina M. Brownfield of Erlanger and Tracy Clayton of Chicago; stepsons, Charles Allen Webster and John Thomas Webster, both of Walton; his mother, Mary Theresa Henderson of Cincinnati; brothers, John Robert Henderson of Seven Hills, Ohio, and Richard Henderson of Cincinnati; sisters, Toni Hurst of Mason, Ohio, and Doris Reuthe of Cincinnati; and eight grandchildren.

Ouida A. Hensley, 82, of Ludlow, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth South, Edgewood. She was a retired tax examiner with the Internal Revenue Service in Covington and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ludlow. Her husband, Richard C. Hensley, died in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Richard L. Hensley of Ludlow; a brother, Tom Rose of Lexington; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
