Elizabeth Ann Condit, artist, devoted to family
Throughout Elizabeth Ann Condit's life, Diabetes. caused untold problems. But her husband, Covington Attorney Joseph T. Condit, said she never let the illness dominate her spirit.
Mrs. Condit, 54, died at 11:38 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
She and her husband raised five children in Covington, and Mr. Condit said her role as mother was the most important thing in her life.
"She was just an excellent mother," he said. "Even though she had a very difficult 14- or 15-year period of illness. . . . And she was just always supportive of me, just as she was with the kids."
Mrs. Condit had studied art at Northern Kentucky University before marrying. She continued to paint and practice needlework throughout her life. She was also a member of St. Benedict Church, Covington.
In addition to her husband of 35 years, survivors include daughters, Vicky Kroger of Hernando Beach, Fla., Jeannine Condit of Southgate and Chrissy Condit of Covington; sons, Joseph P. Condit and Justin T. Condit, both of Covington; sisters, Ginny Ferguson of Sardinia, Ohio, and Susan Russell of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and one granddaughter.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Benedict Church. Visitation will begin there at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Entombment will be in Mother of God Mausoleum, Fort Wright. Charlene Alexander, 80, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at Summit Nursing Home, Cincinnati. Her husband, Elmer Alexander, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Cuzzileno of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a son, Elmer L. Alexander of Kentucky; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to charity of donor's choice.
Her body was donated to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Brad William Arnold, 34, of Fort Thomas, died Friday at his home. He was a laborer.
Survivors include his mother, Carol Ann Conradi Arnold of Fort Thomas; sisters, Janet Mason of Cincinnati and Kimberly Kues of Wilder; and a brother, Larry Arnold of Bridgetown, Ohio.

Annie Baker, 82, of Alexandria, died Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. She was a retired inspector for Holiday Inn, Cincinnati. Her husband, Alex Baker, died in 1988. Sons, Robert Baker and Alfred Baker, also preceded her in death.

James N. "Buck" Baughn, 69, of Gallatin County, died Sunday at Gallatin County Health Care Center, Warsaw. He was a retired employee with Liebel-Flarsheim Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Sherman Baptist Church and Disabled American Veterans.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
His wife, Margaret Baughn, died in 1991. A daughter, Linda Loman, died Jan. 23.
Survivors include a son, David Baughn of Florence; a daughter, Cynthia Vaughn of Corbin; a sister, Dolly Phillips of Florence; four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.

John William "Bill" Bezold, 86, of Foster, formerly of Camp Springs, died at 2:10 a.m. Monday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler. He was a retired mechanic with Neltner Oil Co. in Newport, and a member of Camp Springs Volunteer Fire Department and Catholic Order of Foresters Court No. 1725.
He was an officer with the Campbell County Soil Conservation District.
His wife, Ann Kremer Bezold, died in 1996. A son, Donald Bezold, died in 1977. A daughter, Anna Mae Bezold, died in 1945.

George E. Watkins, 77, of Newport, died Monday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a retired hod carrier and a World War II veteran.

Sparta's Zerelda Jane Lowe, farmer, devoted grandmother
Zerelda Jane Lowe, of Sparta, a hard-working mother who tended the farm for four years during World War II while her husband worked for the government, died Wednesday at her home. She was 82 .
When the war broke out Mrs. Lowe's husband, Alva, was one of the only people around who own ed a tractor and combine.
So, by order of the draft board, he spent the war years breaking the ground on farms all over Northern Kentucky, often leaving early in the morning and not returning until 10 or 11 at night.
This left Mrs. Lowe to work the farm by herself and take care of her two sons.
His mother did all that and more, said her son Hardin Lowe, a minister.
"She cooked many a meal for farm workers and anyone who came along," he said. "She prided herself in always having enough."
Mrs. Lowe owned her own farm enterprise from the late 1940s until the early 1960s, often spending hours weighing and grading eggs to sell at local grocery stores.
Once a week her husband would drive the eggs into Cincinnati and Covington to sell there.
Mrs. Lowe, a native of Gallatin County, met her husband at a church supper. The two were married 65 years. He died in 1998.
Mrs. Lowe did take time to enjoy life, particularly the outdoors, her son said.
Every night, if the weather was warm, she would go fishing, often taking her grandchildren with her.
"She was dearly loved and admired by her grandchildren," Hardin Lowe said.
Mrs. Lowe was a member of Sparta Baptist Church, a past president of Gallatin County Homemakers and chairwoman of the Republican Congressional District in Gallatin County from 1972-76.
Other survivors include son Joseph Lowe, of Sparta; three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Funeral home.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
