Frank Bamberger, Latonia barber

For 45 years, Frank P. Bamberger walked next door to Frank's Barber Shop to cut hair at the business his father, also named Frank, had opened at 44th Street and Decoursey Pike in Latonia.

"Dad would go in there in the morning, start a fire in the furnace, walk back to the house, eat breakfast and then return to the shop," said Covington City Commissioner Jerry Bamberger.

Mr. Bamberger, who had been living in Cold Spring, died Monday night at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. He was 87 years old.

Mr. Bamberger was born icon and reared in the Latonia home next to the family barber shop. He retired from the shop in 1974.

"He was out here so many years that just about everybody I talk to remembers that he cut their hair when they were kids," Jerry Bamberger said.

Mr. Bamberger loved to bowl, but golf was his favorite hobby. He played until just two years ago - racking up five holes-in-one at the age of 85.

"When you'd go to get a haircut, you'd come out knowing how to play golf," Jerry Bamberger said.

Frank Bamberger's first wife, Lorna, died in 1974. He remarried nearly 17 years ago. Commissioner Bamberger said his father and stepmother, Rosemary Bamberger, had a wonderful marriage. They liked to go to a senior citizens group in Cold Spring called the Irish Rovers, he said.

"They played cards and drank beer and danced," Commissioner Bamberger said. "They were just great together."

Frank P. Bamberger was a man of great faith and a member of St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring, where he was leader of the eucharistic ministers at the church. He also was a former member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia, where he had been an usher and a member of the Holy Name Society.

"He went to Mass every morning," said Commissioner Bamberger. "He was a very religious man. He'd visit the sick and take communion to people."

Commissioner Bamberger said his father's generous spirit touched friends and family alike. "He was more than my father," he said. "He was my friend."

Other survivors include a son, Frank J. Bamberger of Taylor Mill; daughters, Betty Burger and Barb Jeffries, both of Taylor Mill; stepdaughters, Karen Clark and Sharon Clark, both of Cold Spring, and Georgia Greis of California; and a total of 34 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Connley Bros. Funeral Home in Latonia. Prayers will be at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery in Fort Wright.

Memorials are suggested to charity.

Robert Roseberry, took pride restoring historic facades

Robert J. Roseberry took pride in his work - and those who benefited from it agree the pride was justified.

Mr. Roseberry, 64, of Florence, cleaned and restored the historical facades of commercial and private buildings throughout Northern Kentucky.

Mr. Roseberry, who owned Roseberry Historical Restoration Co., died at 12:14 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

His work included Covington First Christian Church, the Covington Railroad Station Building, Economy Meat Market, Dee Felice Cafe, Mertack's Antiques and Fairhaven Rescue Mission, all in Covington.

"He was very innovative," said Ed Bessler, owner of Economy Markets. "He could do anything, and it was done right."

Mr. Roseberry's career ranged from being a tailor in his own men's shop in North Vernon, Ind., to designing bombs for the Army at an ammunition plant in Charleston Ind., said his wife, Carole Lee Roseberry.

In the 1970s, the couple moved to Northern Kentucky after Mr. Roseberry became a maintenance engineer for the Kroger Co., traveling across the country overseeing new store installations and equipment. He later worked for Sanitation District No. 1.

When the historic-restoration boom started in Northern Kentucky, Mr. Roseberry launched his chemical cleaning business. It wasn't long before he was in demand.

"He always had a joke and a smile. He always wanted to help somebody out," his wife said.

When he read a news story about vandals painting the side of a Bellevue church, he cleaned the walls of the church at no charge.

"He was proud of his work. He'd take you on tours, showing all the buildings he worked on," his wife said.

Other survivors include daughters, Tina Marie Scott of Elsmere and Tracy Kay Schultz of Independence; a stepson, Tony Powell of Florence; a sister, Marilyn Davis of North Vernon, Ind.; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes. Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45069.
