Garnet H. Hook, 81, of Maysville, died at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday at Vanceburg Health Care Center. She was a nurse's aide with Hayswood Hospital in Maysville, and a member of Bethany Christian Church, Springdale. Her husband, Aaron Daniel Hook, died Jan. 6, 1999.

Survivors include sons, Frank C. Hook, Ernie R. Hook and Aaron E. "Gene" Hook, all of Maysville; nine grandchildren;and several great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Maysville.

Richard Allen Mains, 67, of Covington, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired truck driver with CL&A Truck Lines and an Army veteran of the Korean War. A son, Jerry Lee Mains, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Johnson Mains; sons, Samuel Mains and Michael Mains, both of Covington, and Timmy Mains of Florence; daughters, Lesia Bishop, Sandy Mains, Julie Henderson and Judy Boothe, all of Covington, and Cathy Mains of Newport; brothers, Larry, Harold, James, Donnie, Kenny, Robert and Roy; sisters, Marcella, Lois and Ilene ; and 27 grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Susan Elaine Schlarman, 40, of Southgate, died at 4:05 a.m. Monday at University Hospital in Cincinnati of injuries suffered in an accident.

She was an English teacher at Holy Cross High School in Latonia, where she was the head o f the academic enhancement program, publisher of the school newspaper and supervisor of first-year teachers. She was a member of St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas.

Survivors include her husband, Doug Schlarman; sons, Doug Schlarman Jr. and Jake Schlarman, both at home; daughters, Megan Schlarman and Mollie Schlarman, both at home; her mother, Mary E. Eifert of Latonia; brothers, Paul S. Eifert Jr. of Covington and Clay Eifert of Latonia; and sisters, Theresa Vietor of Taylor Mill, and Connie Lenihan and Veronica Schweitzer, both of Latonia.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Prayers will be at 9:45 a.m. Friday at Connley Bros. Loraine R. Simpson, 80, of Ludlow, died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a member of Leisure Time Senior Citizens. Her husband, James Simpson, died in 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Rucker of Edgewood; a son, Jim Simpson of Cold Spring; a brother, Roland Lohmeier of Ludlow; a sister, Mildred Edwards of Fairfield Glades, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

Audrey Cleo Sipple, 78, of Wharton, W.Va., formerly of Erlanger, died Monday at Boone Memorial Hospital in Wharton. She attended Erlanger Baptist Church.

Jerome A. Thamann Sr., 80, of Park Hills, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Cente r North, Covington. He was a retired public accountant and partner in the firm of Bailey and Thamann Public Accountants of Covington. He was a member of St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright, and a member of the church Holy Name Society. He was a former city councilman for the city of Lookout Heights, a former president of the Lookout Heights Civic Club and a member of Catholic War Veterans; the Fort Mitchell Lions Club; and the Covington Optimist Club. He was a former volunteer police officer with the City of Lookout Heights and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Ruth E. Krieg Thamann, died in 1991. A daughter, Pat Snyder, died in April 1999.

Survivors include daughters, Ruth Tayce of Union and Jeanne Lawson of Covington; sons, Jay Thamann Jr. of Fort Mitchell, Bill Thamann and Bob Thamann, both of Fort Wright, and Joe Thamann of Florence; a sister, Betty Kampsen of Crescent Springs; 24 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Agnes Church. Visitation will begin there at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Robert Corbett, dedicated to family

Robert Corbett of Ludlow always put his family first.

"His family was very important to him," said a son, Robert J. Corbett of Villa Hills. "He just came from a really strong family with a lot of brothers and a sister. They were real close all their lives."

Mr. Corbett, 85, died at 12:06 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired warehouse manager with Armstrong Stationary Co. and a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church in Ludlow. He also was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

In addition, Mr. Corbett was a member of Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame and the Ludlow High School Hall of Fame. He was an all-around athlete who played football, baseball and ran track.

Mr. Corbett loved spending time with his grandchildren, often attending their sporting events.

Mr. Corbett's wife, Madeline Corbett, died Aug. 22. Two sons, James Corbett and Joseph Corbett, died in 1963.

Other survivors include son Edward Corbett of Berea; a daughter, Rose Hall of Ludlow; brothers, William Corbett of Ludlow and Joseph Corbett of Fort Mitchell; a sister, Peggy Corbett of Ludlow; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Boniface and James Church. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Dorothy Mae "Dotty" Brue, 53, of Covington, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a housekeeper with St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington for 33 years.

Survivors include brothers, James Brue and Rickey Brue, both of Covington; and sisters, Carol Jean Brue and Betty Whitaker, both of Covington.

Estelle Catherine Caruso, 67, of Southgate, died Monday at Hospice of Cincinnati. She was a waitress with El Greco Restaurant in Southgate, and a member of St. Therese Church in Southgate. Her husband, John Caruso, died in 1990.

Survivors include sons, Joe Caruso of Houston and John Caruso of Grants Lick; sisters, Mary Jo Conners of Crystal River, Fla., Evelyn Crawford of Highland Heights, Maxine Diciero of Bellevue, Vivian Megous of Cincinnati and Vi Newton of Edgewood; brothers, Bud Lehman of Taylor Mill and Ed Lehman of Covington; and five grandchildren.

Roger V. Crawford, 63, of Hebron, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a machinist and a Marine Corps veteran.

Survivors include sons, Edwin T. Crawford of Florence and Roger V. Crawford Jr. of Fort Wright; a daughter, Kathy Hays of Hebron; a brother, Robert Crawford of Lawrenceburg; sisters, Edwina Crawford of Albuquerque, N.M., and Luella Harden of Murphy, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.

Donn Alan Curtis, 67, of Southgate, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired employee of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Ward B. Hadden, 89, of California, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired employee of Interlake Steel in Newport and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margaret Hadden; sons, Charles Hadden of Sunman, Ind., Richard Hadden and Robert Hadden, both of California; a daughter, Joyce Fogle of California; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Gladys Haigis-Veal, 71, of Fort Thomas, died at 1:32 p.m. Friday at her home. She was a homemaker. A son, Vernon Haigis, preceded her in death.

Mikus Knoerl, 38, of Covington, died at 1:13 p.m. Saturday at his home. Mr. Knoerl competed in the Newport Junior Olympics as a 15 year old and still holds the shot put record for the competition.

Elizabeth Neusch, 63, of Burnet, Texas, formerly of Newport and Fort Thomas, died Saturday in Burnet, of injuries suffered in an auto accident. She was active in the ministry at Anchor of Hope Church in Burnet. Her first husband, Kenneth Johnson, died in 1991.

Survivors include her husband, Herman Neusch; a son, Dr. David Johnson of Denver; a daughter, Susan Schweinzger of Burnet; stepdaughters, Donna Neusch and Mary Theresa Neusch, both of Dallas, Esta Ingle and Gay Harris, both of Austin of Dallas; stepsons, Bill Neusch of Burnet and Dick Neusch of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren; and 15 step-grandchildren.
