Ronald Marshall, was avid gardener

Ronald W. Marshall was an excellent golfer, gardener and worker.

Mr. Marshall, a retired Kroger employee, was a member of Devou Golf club who paid special attention to his own lawn and garden, said a daughter, Janet Marshall of Covington.

"He was very hard-working and a good provider for his family," Ms. Marshall said. "And his yard was his yard. He was an outdoorsman."

Mr. Marshall, 64, of Covington, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday at his home. He was a member of Covington Turner's Association for many years.

Mr. Marshall enjoyed rooting for the University of Kentucky men's basketball team and the Cincinnati Reds. A Covington native, Mr. Marshall was quiet but had a good sense of humor, his daughter said.

"He was a good family man. And he was active in his faith," Ms. Marshall said.

Another daughter, Lisa Marshall, said her father enjoyed traveling and reading.

Mr. Marshall is also survived by his wife, Jean Marshall; a son, David Marshall of Florence; a brother, John Marshall of Cincinnati; and sisters, Marylou Creelman of Union Township, Ohio, and Faith Ann Ball of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Benedict Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Entombment will be in Mother of God Mausoleum, Fort Wright.

Ann Gayle Bingham, 64, of Monterey, Calif., formerly of Covington, died Sunday at Beverly Health Care Center, Monterey. She was an interior designer with Bruener's, and a member of St. John Episcopal Chapel, Monterey. She was a volunteer cancer patient counselor with Community Hospital in Monterey.

Survivors include sons, Michael Bingham and Mark Bingham, both of Sacramento, and Brooke Bingham of Malibu, Calif.; a brother, Henry Schmidt of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Jane Windhorn of Villa Hills; and one granddaughter.

Memorial services will be at noon Saturday at St. John Episcopal Chapel, Monterey, Calif. Cremation will be at Paul Mortuary, Monterey.

Leroy H. Elliott, 70, of Dry Ridge, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired heating and air conditioning technician with Schneller Heating and Air Conditioning Co., Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include sons, Leston L. Elliott of Milford, Ohio, Robert Earl Elliott of Cincinnati and Paul D. Elliott of New Richmond, Ohio; daughters, Geraldine Henson of Hamersville, Ohio, Virginia Ann Adams of Berry and Vicky D. Crawford of New Richmond; brothers, Jimmy Elliott of Covington, Charles Elliott of Corbin, Robert Elliott of Williamstown and J. T. Elliott of Warsaw; sisters, Frances Hess of Felicity, Ohio, Sammy Martin of Williamstown, Millie Conrad of Dry Ridge, Brenda Roland of Warner-Robins, Ga., and Audrey Faye Turner of Union; 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grand children; and his fiancee, Ellen Clemons of Dry Ridge.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Florence E. Elswick, 94, of Fort Thomas, died Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Bellevue. Her husband, Samuel Elswick, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a sister, Emma Hock of Alexandria; and a brother, Irvin Class of Alexandria.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Taylor Fugate, 90, of Newport, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired laborer with Cincinnati Sheet Metal Co. His wife, Mary Deaton Fugate, and a son, Kermis Fugate, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Willis Fugate of Newport; daughters, Lillie Turner of Newport and Della Lemberg of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother, Vernis Fugate of Barwick; sisters, Opha Hudson and Luellen White, both of Jackson; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mill Dam Cemetery, Sebastian Branch.

Belle Juanita Furnish, 75, of Carrollton, died Monday at Kings Daughters Hospital, Madison, Ind. She was a homemaker and a member of Worthville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond W. Furnish; a daughter, Lisa Ann Wyatt of Hanover, Ind.; a brother, Larry Maxwell of Wheatley; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the Funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Evelyn Harris-Douthitt, 79, of Covington, died at 12:14 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a clerk and registrar with the Kenton County Health Department. Her husband, Julius Douthitt, preceded her in death. There are no immediate survivors.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ann Church, Covington. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Edith Juanita Baker Hayden, 73, of Carrollton, died Monday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. She was a homemaker and a member of United Pentecostal Church, Carrollton.

Survivors include her husband, Lesley Hayden; a daughter, Margaret N. Brokering Cruz of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Anna May Brokering of Glenwood, Ind.; brothers, James Kinny of Sparta and David Kinny of Rushville, Ind.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were this morning at IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton. Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton, handled arrangements.

William A. Kenney, 86, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Bellevue, died Saturday at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. He was a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service in Cincinnati, and a member of Sacred Heart Church and Knights of Columbus Desoto Council No. 5604, both in Bradenton.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Kenney; a son, Bill Kenney of Cincinnati; stepdaughters, Donna Gabbard of West Chester, Ohio, and Phyllis Miner of Palmetto, Fla.; a brother, Edward Kenney of Bellevue; four grandchildren and nine stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.

Herbert Tom King, 76, of Falmouth, died Monday at his home after an extended illness. He was a retired farmer and a member of Oakland Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Zelma Insko King; a son, Herbert Jerome King of Falmouth; a brother, Edwin King of Harrodsburg; and one stepgrandson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Margaret Menefee King, 95, of Florence, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a retired nurse's aide with Boothe Hospital and a member of Wilmington Baptist Church. Her husband, Ralph King, died in 1974.

Survivors include a daughter, Lena Marie Thompson of Florence; sisters, Ruth Caldwell of Demossville and Naomi Phillips of Covington; brothers, Kenneth Menefee of Oklahoma, Tilford Menefee of Demossville, Lloyd Menefee of Louisville, Kline Menefee of Crittenden and Marvin Menefee of Covington; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Harvey H. Orme, 54, of Crescent Springs, died Monday at his home. He was a mechanic and supervisor with Newport Schools Bus System.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Taylor Orme; daughters, Elaine Orme of Bellevue and Kelly Kiskaden of Piner; sons, Harvey Orme of Bellevue and Ricky Lawson Orme of Crescent Springs; brothers, Lee Orme of Butler and Jim Orme of Foster; sisters, Nancy Thomas and Jenny Tackett, both of Newport, Calmey McOveney of Cold Spring; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Hattie Ott, of Independence, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Art Ott, died in 1971. A son, Douglas Anderson, died in 1976.

Survivors include four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Eddie L. Reed, 68, of Fort Mitchell, died at 6:56 a.m. Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a supervisor with Cincinnati Gas and Electric, a past master of Bradford Lodge No. 123 in Independence and a member of St. Paul Christian Community Church, Fort Wright, and the Scottish Rite.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene M. Ballinger Reed; daughters, Cindy Meiners and Kim Jones, both of Fort Mitchell, and Ginger Baehner of Cincinnati; a brother, Charles Reed of Covington; sisters, Mary Davis of Cincinnati, Wanda Terlau of Palmetto, Fla., Carol Mullins of Dry Ridge and Linda McDaniel of Taylor Mill; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Rev. Irene Young, minister at
Church of God Trinity Assembly

The Rev. E. Irene Young of Covington was an ordained minister for nearly 40 years.

She served at the Church of God Trinity Assembly in Covington the last 16 years assisting her brother, the Rev. Wendell A. Bell of Latonia, who is pastor.

Before that, Rev. Young worked at churches in Kentucky and Ohio with her husband, the Rev. Hampton Young, who died in 1984.

When the Youngs were a team, he served as pastor and she did secretarial work.

A daughter, Julia Renee Reed of Southgate, couldn't keep from crying as she spoke about her mother, but she's certain her mother is happy.

"She always sang the song, 'My foot's on the Rock, and my mind's made up.'

"From the beginning, their minds were made up to meet in heaven, and they did."

Rev. E. Irene Young, 73, died early Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

Rev. Young was born icon in Burnside. Her father and stepmother both were ministers, said her son, George R. Young of Latonia.

Young said his parents first opened a church on Colerain Avenue in Cincinnati in 1963.

A couple of years later they moved the church to Eighth Street in Covington, where they stayed until 1971.

Then, they moved the church back to Ohio, to Camp Washington.

Finally, in 1976, they opened the church at its present site on Garrard Street in Covington.

Other survivors include a daughter, Edna L. Caldwell of Latonia; her stepmother, Julia Bell Gadd of Florence; brothers, Billy "Jr." Bell and Henry A. Bell, both of Hebron, Charles B. Bell of Kentucky; sisters, E. Christina Daulton and Deborah Flets, both of Hebron, and Imolene Snelling of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of God Trinity Assembly in Covington.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home in Covington, and from 10 a.m. until the time services Friday at the church.

Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Ethel Edna Rhodes Bryson, 90, of Independence, died Tuesday at Carmel Manor nursing home, Fort Thomas. She was a retired bookkeeper with Arnamack and a member of Florence Christian Church. Her husband, LeRoy Bryson, died in 1988.

Survivors include a son, Gordon A. Bryson of Independence; a brother, Harold O. Rhodes of Anderson, N.C.; a sister, Laverne Heuser of Hebron; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.

Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Elmer L. Caskey, 75, of Cynthiana, died Tuesday at his home. He was a former president of Trojan Manufacturing Co. in Piqua, Ohio, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Cynthiana Baptist Church, the Troy, Ohio, Masonic Lodge and Flow Blue International Collector's Club.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Caskey; sons, William Richard Caskey of Topanga, Calif., Stephen Gilliam of Niceville, Fla., Kevin Brian Caskey of Cynthiana, Fred Ferrell and Billy Ferrell, both of Cincinnati, and Brett Ferrell of Brazil; a brother, Herman Elmo Caskey of Cincinnati; a sister, Faye Schreiner of Enon, Ohio; and several grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana.

William Fred Cottengim, 58, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died at 1 a.m. Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. He was an employee of the Kenton County Boys and Girls Club.

Alberta L. Remke Hausman, 95, of Fort Mitchell, died Tuesday at Madonna Manor, Villa Hills. She was a retired corporate secretary with W. F. Hausman Paper Co. in Cincinnati and a member of St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. Her husband, William F. Hausman, died in 1965.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.
