Charles E. Riehl, 79, of Bellevue, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a technician with Peter Paul Office Equipment, Cincinnati, a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society and Bellevue Lions Club, and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Hils Riehl; sons, David Riehl of Edgewood and Edward Riehl of Bellevue; daughters, Gloria Riehl of Cincinnati, Marianne Riehl fo Louisa, Rosemary Riehl and Theresa Riehl, both of Bellevue, and Virginia Riehl of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Jane Gasper of Whitehall, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Euel Sexton, 63, of Cincinnati, died Saturday at Hilltop Nursing Home in Cincinnati. He was a laborer and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include sisters, Loretta Evans and Wanda Bryant, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.

Henry Earl Vereen, 63, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana. He was a carpenter and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include a brother, Jimmy Vereen of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and a sister, Pauline Anderson of Myrtle Beach.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Harrison County Cemetery, Cynthiana. Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.

Florence Saladin, Lakeside Park
Florence E. Saladin made each member of her family feel special.

Whether it was cooking, hosting family gatherings or playing with her grandchildren, Mrs. Saladin was an inspiration, said a daughter, Judith Haney of Hebron.

"She was a positive, nice, gentle person," Mrs. Haney said. "The things that were most important to her were her church and her family."

Mrs. Saladin, 93, of Lakeside Park, died Tuesday at St. Charles Care Center in Covington. She was a retired billing clerk with the Kenton County Water Commission and a homemaker.

Mrs. Saladin was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell. Her husband, John D. "Dave" Saladin, died in 1985. A son, John J. "Jack" Saladin, died in 1994. A daughter, Mary Joan Blair, died earlier this year.

"She was proud of her family, no matter what field they were in. Her world was her family. We had the best mother. That's who you wanted to be like when you grew up."

"She loved to go to family parties. She used to like to read and did a lot of cooking and whatever her family needed," Mrs. Haney said.

Mrs. Saladin was a native of Northern Kentucky. She was a low-key person who had a gentle laugh and smile, her daughter said.

Other survivors include sons, Dr. Thomas Saladin of Lakeside Park, Capt. (ret.) Gerald Saladin of Moultrie, Ga., and David Michael Saladin of Hebron; 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Covington, Kentucky 41011; or the charity of the donor's choice. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Fenton Cain, 97, of Morning View, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired teacher with Newport Elementary School, a member of First Baptist Church of Independence, and a Sunday school teacher. Her husband, Thomas A. Cain, died in 1994. Sons, Thomas J. Cain and Richard B. Cain, died in 1969 and 1982.

Survivors include a son, David Cain of Plantation, Fla.; daughters, Karen Hubbs of Morning View and Esther Robbins of Taylor Mill; sisters, Carlie Lynch of Beattyville, Ollie Creech of Rock Hill, S.C., Julia Bradley of Britton, Mich., and Mabel Norman of South Lebanon, Ohio; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Evelyn "Robbins" Dwertman, 85, of Fort Wright, died at 12:05 p.m. Friday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. John Congregational Church, Covington. She was a member of the church Ladies Aid and Adult Bible Class, and the Fort Wright Hilltoppers Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Clem A. Dwertman; sons, David Dwertman of Fort Meyers, Fla., Mark Dwertman of Park Hills and Bernie Dwertman of Cincinnati; daughters, Susan Niles and Teri Timmerman, both of Cincinnati; brothers, John Robbins and Earl Robbins, both of Hot Springs, Ark.; a sister, Rosemary Weber of Fort Thomas; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m.Sunday at St. John Congregational Church, Covington. Mrs. Dwertman donated her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Zachary David Freeman, 9, of Verona, died at 8:40 a.m. Monday at Children's Hospital, Cincinnati, after an extended illness. He was a third grader at Gallatin County Elementary School.

Survivors include his parents, David L. and Laura Anne Peters Freeman of Verona; a brother, Jacob Freeman of Verona; a sister, Amanda Freeman of Verona; grandparents, Herschell and Nancy Freeman of Verona and Don and Janet Peters of Hamilton, Ohio; and great-grandparents, Arvil Byrd of Rabbit Hash and Willie Peters of Hamilton, Ohio.

William T. Fromme, 86, of Cold Spring, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a driver with Morrison Motor Freight Co., a member of St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marion Fromme; a daughter, Mariah Gayle Egan of New Philadelphia, Ohio; a son, William R. Fromme of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.

Maude Lee Hewitt, 90, of Carrollton, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of First Apostolic Church, Carrollton.

Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne Hewitt of Carrollton; a son, Patrick Henry "Pete" Hewitt of Carrollton; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Rena Frances Buckley Kramer, 104, of Elsmere, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Elsmere Church of Christ. She had received the Centenarian Award and the key to the city of Elsmere. Her husband, Leonard Joseph Kramer, died in 1999. A son, Claude Buckley, died in 1992.

Survivors include sons, Emmett Buckley of Erlanger and Howard Buckley of Elsmere; a daughter, Marie Mullins of Elsmere; a sister, Ora Alma Heis of Elsmere; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was a counselor for Marriage Encounter, and a member of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Christian Fellowship, Cursillo Moveland and Faith Alive Movement.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Wagner Ludwig; a daughter, Robin L. Acree of Fort Thomas; a son, Gary Ludwig of Dayton; a brother, Elmer Ludwig of Fort Thomas; and three grandchildren.

Carl Reams, 73, of Latonia, died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday at his home. He was a retired employee of Putman Trucking Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 100 in Cincinnati.

He was a member of Latonia Lodge No. 746 and an employee of B&O Railroad.

Mildred Strode Stanton, 88, of Maysville, died Wednesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville. She was a seamstress with New York Store, Maysville, and a member of St. Patrick Church in Maysville. She was a member of the St. Patrick Altar Society and Daughters of the American Revolution. Her husband, James B. Stanton, died in 1964. A son, James Anthony Stanton, also preceded her in death.

Joseph Matracia, 69, was A-1 business, family man

Joseph Matracia was a successful businessman who found plenty of time for family and friends.

Mr. Matracia, 69, the former owner of A-1 Liquors and Matracia Produce in Covington, died Wednesday at his home in Lakeside Park.

Born in Covington and raised in Fort Mitchell, Mr. Matracia grew up in the produce business. Many of his friends also were in the business.

In the 1970s, he opened A-1 Liquors on Fourth Street, which for years was one of the city's biggest liquor stores, and closed his wholesale produce business a few years later. After almost two decades, he also sold the liquor store. A Taco Bell now sits where the liquor store operated.

He was a hard worker who loved to work in the yard or his gardens after he retired, said his son, Vincent Matracia of Fort Mitchell.

Working in the public for so many years, Mr. Matracia created a diverse group of friends, his son said.

"He was loved by everybody," Vincent Matracia said. "He touched so many people, it was unbelieveable."

Mr. Matracia was a witty man who had a large group of close friends, his son said. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and was always there for his family and friends.

"He was one of those people you could always go to," his son said. "It didn't matter what kind of mood he was in; he made you smile."

Other survivors include his wife, Marie Collins Matracia; sons, Joseph Matracia Jr. of Florence and David Matracia of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Annette Gabbard of Crestview Hills, and eight grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, Pancreatic Cancer Research, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Kentucky 41042.
