John M. “Jack” Edrington of Bell Avenue, Campbellsville, son of the late Henry Stuart Edrington and Eloise Smith Edrington, was born icon in Taylor County, Kentucky, December 19, 1927. He died at 11:45 P. M., Sunday, July 21, 2002, in Campbellsville. Age: 74He had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Robinson Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and a youth advisor. He attended Campbellsville University, was former owner of Jack’s Grocery, an employee of Tennessee Gas Transmissions Co., and a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the United States Navy. He has been a member of the Campbellsville City Council since 1969, and was a member of the Campbellsville Kiwanis Club and Pitman Masonic Lodge #124 F&AM. He united in marriage to Patricia Anne “Patty” Masden May 21, 1948. She preceded him in death September 16, 1997. He is survived by three daughters and spouses: Pamela Anne & Steve Vinson of Millinocket, Maine, Barbara Jo & Ted Curtis of Horse Shoe, North Carolina, and Denise & Robert Skaggs of Campbellsville; seven grandchildren: Derek Curtis & his wife, Joy of McAllen, Texas, Aaron Vinson & his wife, Julie of Orland, Maine, Kim Davis & her husband, Jason of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Sara Libby & her husband, Tim of Gorham, Maine, Amy Chappel and Jay Chappel & Sarah Holmes of Campbellsville, and Johnna Callie Edrington of London, Kentucky; two great-grandsons, Gavin Blake Holmes of Campbellsville and Connor Libby of Gorham, Maine; one sister, Alice Lee of Campbellsville; several other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by one son, slain Kentucky State Trooper Johnny M. Edrington II on December 21, 1988 and one sister, Mary Jo Edrington.

Edna Chapell of Spurlington Road, Campbellsville, daughter of the late Chaney Davis and Ethel Head Davis was born icon January 22, 1917, in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at 10:00 P. M., Friday, October 18, 2002, in Campbellsville. Age: 85. She had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Barren County Primitive Baptist Church. She united in marriage to Ralph Chapell April 11, 1936. He preceded her in death August 15, 1989. She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Margaret Chappell of Campbellsville, three grandchildren and their spouses: Bobby and Janice Chappell and Kevin and Cindy Chappell of Campbellsville and Lisa and John Arnold of Columbia; three great-granddaughters: Robin Chappell and Jessica Chappell of Campbellsville and Katelyn Arnold of Columbia and one unborn great grandson, Kyle Wayne Chappell; three sisters: Hattie Berry and Kim Davis of Campbellsville and Christine Firkins of Cave City; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by one son Bobby Chappell Sr. March 12, 1991.

Russell N. Bryant of Matthew Street, Campbellsville, son of the late Carlie Bryant and Nona Belle Neat Bryant, was born icon in Adair County, Kentucky, September 7, 1920. He died at 10:30 P. M., Monday, October 14, 2002, in Elizabethtown. Age: 82He had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Campbellsville Christian Church. He was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville. He united in marriage to Edna Giles December 27, 1937. She preceded him in death August 30, 1997. He is survived by three daughters: Louise Croslin of Russellville, Jane Bryant of Bowling Green, and Brenda Worful of Louisville; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister: Herbert Bryant and Coy Bryant of Campbellsville, Layton Bryant of Michigan City, Indiana, and Levona Borrows of Boynton Beach, Florida; and several other relatives and many friends. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers and seven sisters: Lilburn Bryant, Leonard Bryant, Stanley Bryant, Claude Bryant, Kenneth Bryant, Robert Bryant, Buford Bryant, Lillian Thomas, Florence Grant, Evelyn Henson, Mary Grant, Cora Chelf, Beatrice Gallons, and Freeda Watson.

Ethel Cutler of Elkhorn Road, Campbellsville, daughter of the late Elmer McInroy and Cora Stoddard McInroy, was born icon in Cedar Falls, Iowa, April 12, 1914. She died at 1:50 P. M., Saturday, October 12, 2002, in Campbellsville. Age: 88She had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Bible Baptist Tabernacle. She united in marriage to Stanley D. Cutler in April, 1933. He preceded her in death in December, 1973. She is survived by four daughters and one son: Zelma Limkeman & her husband, Joe and Patricia Ann Preece of Cedar Falls, Iowa, June D. Hansen and Robert Cutler & his wife, Sue of Campbellsville, and Jean Bolhuis & her husband, Henry of Ft. Myers, Florida; fourteen grandchildren: James Preece of Tennessee, David Preece and Robert Preece of Chicago, Ronald Preece, Jerry Preece, and Janine Preece of Iowa, LaRita Nueman, Tonya Hansen, and Mark Cutler of Campbellsville, Lynnette Broline of Liberty, Matthew Cutler of Kiev, Ukraine, Gilbert Bolhuis and Mark Bolhuis of Virginia, and Judy DeVane of Florida; twenty-six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Merle McInroy of Cedar Falls, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Jonathan Cutler on November 15, 1999 and two brothers: Ernest McInroy and George McInroy.

Bernice Hayes of Hayes Road, Elkhorn, daughter of the late Dewey Herron and Della Cox Herron was born icon in Taylor County, Kentucky, May 7, 1928. She died at 10:40 A. M., Sunday, October 13, 2002, in Louisville, due to injuries received from an automobile accident that occurred October 4th. Age: 74She had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Stoner Creek United Methodist Church. She was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville. She united in marriage to Delmar Hayes March 27, 1943. He preceded her in death October 4, 2002, due to injuries received in the same accident. She is survived by one son and three daughters: Carroll R. Hayes and Vivian Cochran of Elkhorn and Delilah Cruse and Tonya Crain of Buffalo; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Whitledge of Evansville, Indiana; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother: Ruth Cox, Margaret Bays and Carl W. Herron.

M., Saturday, October 12, 2002, in Campbellsville. Age: 68He had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Lowell Avenue Baptist Church. He was a retired automotive body and paint mechanic. He united in marriage to Janet Hicks August 10, 1958. Besides his wife, Janet Osborne of Happy Hills Drive, Campbellsville, he is survived by one daughter and one son and their spouses: Mary and Gary Rogers and Jerry and LaDonna Osborne of Campbellsville; two grandchildren: Jordan Osborne and Austin Osborne of Campbellsville; one step-granddaughter and one step-grandson: Samantha Rogers of Campbellsville and Michael Jansen of Cincinnati, Ohio; four sisters and one brother: Jean Chen, Helen Bryant, and Billie Dean of Louisville, JoAnn Harp of Corydon, Indiana, and Earl Osborne of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

M., Wednesday, October 9, 2002, in Campbellsville. Age: 91He had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Basptist Church. He was a member of the Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge #450 F&AM. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Bland Smith of Old Lebanon Road, Campbellsville; two daughters: Norma Jean Long of Indianapolis and Judy Rinehart of Louisville; two step-sons: J. T. Bland of Campbellsville and Michael Bland of Maryville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; two sisters and one brother: Gladys Pennington of Campbellsville, Faye Yankey of Springfield, and Tommy Smith of Lebanon; several other relatives and many friends. Delmar Hayes of Hayes Road, Elkhorn, son of the late Luther Hayes and Catherine Herron Hayes was born icon August 6, 1922, in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 2:50 P. M., Friday, October 4, 2002, in Campbellsville, as the result of an automobile accident. Age: 80He had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Stoner Creek United Methodist Church. He was a retired construction worker, truck driver, and farmer. He served honorably during World War II as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He united in marriage to Bernice Herron on March 27, 1943. Besides his wife, Bernice Hayes, he is survived by one son and three daughters: Carroll R. Hayes and Vivian Cochran of Elkhorn and Delilah Cruse and Tonya Crain of Buffalo; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one brother: Kenneth Hayes of Elkhorn; several other relatives and many friends.

Elizabeth S. Patterson of Lindsey Circle, Campbellsville, formerly of Middlesboro, Kentucky, daughter of the late John J. Southern and Nancy Marsee Southern, was born icon February 7, 1920, in Middlesboro, Kentucky. She died at 4:30 P. M., Friday, October 4, 2002, in Campbellsville. Age: 82She united in marriage to Robert Eugene Patterson on August 26, 1940. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1997. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Jean Elizabeth (Pat) Abell and Edwin P. Abell of Campbellsville; a granddaughter, Alyson Abell Thompson and her husband, Dale Thompson, of Summersville; a grandson, Shaun Patterson Abell of Perryville; two great-grandchildren: William Robert Payton Thompson of Summersville and Haley Jean Abell of Bardstown; one brother and two sisters: Earl Southern Sr. of Corbin, Kentucky, Mrs. Louis (Jewell) Russell of Knoxville, and Mrs. Frank (Bea) Fallon of Tampa; and many other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by one infant son, Robert Eugene Patterson Jr. and three brothers and two sisters. Private graveside services will be held Monday, October 7, 2002.

John Huel Madole, age 59, of Old Columbia Road, Campbellsville, died Friday, October 4, 2002, in Adair County after a brief illness. He is survived by one daughter and her spouse, Angela and Bobby Morrison of Burksville, a three very special friends, Jimmy Long; Cindy and Junior Alexander all of Columbia. Several other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services for John Huel Madole will be held at 11:00 A. M. Monday, October 7, 2002, at the Lyon-Dewitt Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Lebanon National Cemetery with full military honors by the Marion County Chapter of the D. A. V. The family request visitation from 5 to 9 P. M. Sunday at Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Central Kentucky. These may be made at the Funeral home.

CHARLES E. COX
Charles E. Cox of Landon Lane, Campbellsville, son of the late Otha Lee Cox and Toncie McDonald Cox was born icon October 28, 1925, in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 6:55 P. M., Monday, September 30, 2002, in Campbellsville. Age: 76. He had professed faith in Christ and attended the Campbellsville Christian Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Technician Fifth Grade with the 410th Engineer Construction Battalion. He and George A. Cox founded Cox Weather-stripping (which became Mannsville Sash and Door) and Cox Cabinet Company. He later founded Cox Interior. He united in marriage to Helen Bohanon December 16, 1944. Besides his wife, Helen Cox of Landon Lane, Campbellsville, he is survived by three sons and one daughter: Barry Cox and his wife Lucy, Lanny Cox and his wife, Joyce, Kay Cox Legg and her husband, Larry all of Campbellsville and Steve Cox of Louisville; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Taylor, Benjie Cox, Aaron Cox, and Carol Simmons of Campbellsville, Grant Cox, Landon Cox and Lanai Cox of Louisville and Leigh Ann Simmons of Cincinnati, five great-grandchildren: Morgan Taylor and Cayela Taylor of Campbellsville, Austin Cox of Columbia and Ashton Cox and Cody Ogden of Louisville; three sisters and four brothers: Kenneth Cox of Campbellsville, William A. Cox, Carl Cox, Evelyn Meadows, Mary Waller, Sylvia Graybeal and Cozetta Allen of Louisville; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Cox and Wallace Cox.

M., Wednesday, February 26, 2003, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Age: 66. He had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He retired as a meat cutter from Houchens Market after twenty-one years. He was a former owner of Wilson’s Family Restaurant. He united in marriage to Jean Bright September 23, 1956. Besides his wife, Jean Wilson of Old Lebanon Road, Campbellsville, he is survived by three daughters and one son and their spouses: Kathy Wilson, Stephen Miller and Libby Wilson, Shari Jo and Terry Daffron and Lisa and Tony Myers of Campbellsville; six grandchildren: Tessa Daffron, Torri Daffron, Nicholas Miller Wilson, Ashley Paige Wilson, Timothy Dewayne Bishop and Shawn Myers of Campbellsville; one sister, June Warren Sluder of Campbellsville; two special nieces, Karen Rafferty and Libby Richard and her husband and son, Todd and Blake; several other nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
