Stella Bray

Stella (Reeves) Bray, 78, Adderholt Road, Bronston, died Thursday, May 11, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Lexington.

She was born icon Feb. 15, 1928, in Pulaski County, the daughter of the late Jessie Ernest and Minnie (Bolin) Reeves. She was a cook at Somerset Lodge Restaurant and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna (and Charles) Mayfield, Somerset and Brenda (and Boyd) Casada, Somerset; three sons, Eddie (and Linda) Bray, Joey (and Rita) Bray and Steve (and Carol) Bray, all of Somerset; a brother, Lee (and Ester) Reeves, Disputanto, Va.; a sister, Delphia Cook, Kokoma, Ind.; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Donald Hancock; her second husband, Edgar Bray; one sister, Elsie Bray; and two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Zachary Donahue.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2006, at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home, Somerset with Bro. Linn Wethington and Bro. Ulanda Price officiating.

Burial will be in the Quinton Cemetery, Bronston.

Pallbearers will be Danny Bray, Dennis Mayfield, Doug Bray, Jeff Donahue, Bobby Cook, Shane Bray, Shannon Mayfield and Kelvin Casada.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. tonight at the Funeral home and Monday at 2 p.m.

Mavene Stringer

Mavene Sweet Stringer, 65, Nancy, died Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

A Pulaski County native, she was born icon Nov. 10, 1940, daughter of the late James Dewey and Gertie Dick Sweet. She was a retired librarian with the Pulaski County Public Library and member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy (and Cindy) Stringer, Somerset, and Joey Stringer, Nancy; five brothers, Dale (and Marlene) Sweet, Somerset, Silas (and Margie) Sweet, Nancy, and Willis (and Pat) Sweet, Donnie (and Rosie) Sweet and Dannie (and Cory) Sweet, all of Ohio; a sister, Zelma Sweet, Ohio; two grandchildren, Josh and Kymber Stringer; three step-grandchildren, Scott Tomlinson and Luke and Amanda Coomer; two step-great-grandchildren, Tara Rollins and Samantha Tomlinson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Mary Sears.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Velva Early.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 15, at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company with Dr. James Floyd officiating.

Burial will be in Sweet Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Funeral home after 10 a.m. Monday, unit time for services.

Louise Bray

Somerset — Louise Bray, 76, a resident of East Limestone Street in Somerset, Kentucky, passed away, Sunday, May 14, 2006, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

She was born icon July 20, 1929, at Hart County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Ingram and Myrtle Foster Stevens. She was united in marriage to Vanis Wesley Bray on Oct. 7, 1944, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 2004. Louise enjoyed working in her flower beds and attended First Assembly of God.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Joe Bray and his friend Linda, and Virgil Bray and his wife Carolyn, all of Somerset; three daughters, Elsie Shoopman, Marlene Sweet and her husband Dail, and Kathy Dick, all of Somerset; 15 grandchildren, Connie Weddle, Bruce Brown, Diane Cook, Robin Young, Crystal Young, Ashley Tarter, Jessica Perry, Bobby Shoopman, Kenneth Shoopman Jr., Angela Bray, Rodney Dick, Nick Williams, Tina Haste, Samantha Smith and Chris McKee; and 16 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons, Eddie Wesley Bray and David Bray; and three daughters, Trucelia Bray, Margie Bray and Charlene Bray.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 17, at 1 p.m. at Lange & New Bros. Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Mullins officiating. Vocalist and guitarist Bobby Bell will provide the music.

Burial will be in the Ringgold Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening after 5 p.m. at Lange & New Bros. Family Funeral Home.

Wanda Piercy

Somerset — Wanda L. Piercy, 73, Wayne County, passed away Sunday, May 14, at Clinton County Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert Piercy; five children, Sula Mink, Delia Braggs, Bobby and Calvin Sexton and Gary Piercy; four step children, Carolyn Perdue, Charlotte Rose, Arlie and Arvie Piercy; and two siblings, Delia Clemmons and James Riddle.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Funeral Home Chapel of Hoyt G.. Hickey & Son Funeral Home, Monticello, Kentucky

Burial will be in the Taylor’s Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday until service time at Hoyt G. Hickey & Son Funeral Home.

William Crockett

Somerset — William Crockett, son of the late Clonie and Pearl Cundiff Crockett, was born icon in Casey County on Oct. 15, 1934 and departed this life on May 12, 2006, at the Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford, Kentucky At the time of his death he was 71 years, 6 months and 27 days of age

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by three sisters, Ola Gilpin, Mable Turner and Helen Gray; and a brother, David Crockett.

He is survived by two sister, Judy Smith of Somerset, Kentucky, Carol Hollars of Atlanta, Ga. an a brother, Jack Crockett, Richmond, Kentucky, and several other relatives and friends.

Mr. Crockett lived in Stanford and had formerly lived in Casey County and Somerset, Kentucky

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, graveside at Salem Cemetery in Casey County with the Rev. David Crockett officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. There will be in o visitation.

McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, Liberty, Kentucky, is in charge of arrangements.

Eileen Floro

Somerset — Eileen Edna Rayne Flora, 84, Salisbury, New Hampshire, died May 12, 2006, at Franklin Regional Hospital.

Born April 16, 1922, in the Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Alice Nash Rayne. After growing up in Queens, N.Y., she graduated from Mary Immaculate Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse and later specialized as an operating room nurse. She lived in New Hyde Park, N.Y., for 31 years before moving to N.H. in 1983. She was of the Roman Catholic faith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bruno Floro. Survivors include her daughter, Eileen P. (and Fred) Richardson of Salisbury N.H.; two sons, Robert J. (and Karen) Floro of Danville, Kentucky and Thomas G. (and Jane) Floro of Somerset, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Robert (and Sherri) Richardson of Rockland, Pa., Dana Floro of Richmond, Kentucky, Tony (and Jessica) and Mike Floro of Moreland, Kentucky, Chris (and Elaine) Floro of Somerset, Kentucky, Suzanne (and Chris) Coulombe of Andover, NH and Meghan Richardson of Salisbury, NH; and six great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jonathan Richardson and Samantha, Allison, Gabriel and Isabella Floro.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland, Kentucky, by Father Joe Muench.

Burial will be Hustonville Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Visitation was held in NH on Sunday, May 14, at William S. Smart Memorial Home in Tilton, NH. Pallbearers are Bob, Tom, Tony, Mike, Chris, Dana, Jessica and Elaine Floro.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Kentucky, 4100 Churchman Ave., Louisville, Kentucky 40215-9067.

Joshua Vanhook

Somerset — Joshua Michael Vanhook, age 18, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2006, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

Born April 28, 1988 in Lincoln County, he was the son of Steve Vanhook of Waynesburg and Ronda Edwards (Patrick) of Somerset. Josh was a graduating senior at Fort Logan High School in Stanford.

In addition to his parents, survivors include a brother, Steven Odell (and Amber) Vanhook of Somerset; a sister, Rachel Edwards of Columbia, Kentucky; maternal grandparents Virgil and Saundra Haste of Eubank, Kentucky and Edward and Janie Vanhook of Waynesburg; maternal great-grandparents, Alvin and Hazel Ray of Ladoga, Ind.; paternal great-grandmother, Doris Vanhook of Waynesburg; a special cousin, Trace Vanhook of Waynesburg; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Josh was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Odell May; maternal great-grandparents, Willis and Flossie May; paternal great-grandfather, Vola Vanhook; and paternal great-grandparents, Phillip and Dolly Roberts.

Funeral Services for Josh Vanhook will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Eubank Baptist Church with the Rev. Shelby Reynolds officiating.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.

Burial will be in the Pilot Cemetery, Waynesburg.

Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Elise Linder

Somerset — Elise P. Linder, 73, Spring Road, Nancy, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at her residence.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 22, at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, at the Funeral home.

Don Black

Somerset — Don Black, age 75, of Phenix, Alabama, formerly of Mt. Victory, passed away on May 17, 2006.

Survivors include his wife, Polly Ann (Roark) Black; two children, Donna Hodges and Bruce Black; three grandsons; one granddaughter; a sister, Pat Lance, of London, Kentucky and two brother, Leroy Black, of Corbin, Kentucky and Harvey Black, of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobart and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Farmer Black; two sisters, Geraldine Black and Betty Sears.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Vance Memorial Chapel, N. Phenix, Alabama.

Robert Louis Fitzgerald

Somerset — Robert Louis (Louie) Fitzgerald, 80, Miami Township, Ohio, formerly of Science Hill, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at Hospice Care Center in Ohio.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 22, at Union Cemetery in Science Hill with Evangelist Michael Hardin officiating.

Burial is in Union Cemetery.

Peggy Haste

Somerset — Peggy (Dungan) Haste, 48, N. Hwy 1247, Eubank, Kentucky, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky

She was born icon March 13, 1958 in Somerset to Paul Dungan of Eubank and the late Dot Keith Dungan. She was a pharmaceutical technician. Her special interests were her sons, family, UK basketball and gardening. She was a member of the Science Hill Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her father; her husband, David Haste, whom she married Dec. 22, 1978; two sons, Matt (and Cheyenne) Haste, Bowling Green, and Chad Haste, Eubank; a sister, Vicky Dungan, Eubank; and special nieces, Paula (and Michael) Robinson, Chanissa Robinson, and Autumn Robinson.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill, with Pastor Rob Tranthem and Bro. Bob Stokes officiating.

Burial will be at Freedom Cemetery in Eubank.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Funeral home.

Donations may be made to the Leukemia Society of Kentucky Chapter 710 W. Main Suite 100, Louisville, Kentucky, 40202.

Stiman D. Luck

Services for Stiman D. Luck, 74, of Onton were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Tompkins Funeral Homes, Sebree/Poole Chapel. The Revs. Billy Raby, Les Chapman, and Russell East officiated, with burial in Onton.

Mr. Luck died at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at his residence.

He was a retired farmer. He was also a member of Onton United Methodist Church, member of Bailey-Onton Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Madisonville Temple, and was a member of The Melody Men gospel quartet.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ada Brown Luck; a daughter, Sydney Reed of Madisonville; three sons, Tom Luck and Joe Luck, both of Hanson, and Jon Luck of Onton; six grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Dorothy Mae (Bean) Marshal

Services for Dorothy Mae (Bean) Marshall, 90, of the Chicago, IL, area, formerly of Nebo, are pending at Tompkins Funeral Homes, Slaughters and Hanson Chapel.

Mrs. Marshall died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, in Chicago.

Irene Morse

Services for Irene Morse of Providence are pending at Melton Funeral Home in Providence.

Mrs. Morse died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

John Richard Nichols

Services for John Richard Nichols, 73, of Sebree, were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Tompkins Sebree/Poole Chapel. The Rev. Billy Raby officiated, with burial in Springdale Cemetery in Sebree, with full military rites.

Mr. Nichols died at 2:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at his residence.

He attended Sebree Pentecostal Mission and was a retired disabled World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Wilson Nichols; three daughters, Belinda Powell of Robards, Debra Wilson of Sebree, and Kathy Aud of Mt. Carmel, IL; three sons, David Wilson, Michael Nichols, and Steven Nichols, all of Henderson; a brother, Clifford Nichols of San Francisco, CA; and 11 grandchildren.

Luke Campbell Orsburn

Services for Luke Campbell Orsburn, 81, of Corydon, were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home in Henderson. Rob. L. Whitacre officiated, with burial in Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson.

Mr. Orsburn died at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center’s Welborn Campus in Evansville, IN.

A retired farmer, he was past chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization Committee. He was also the local manager in the oil field for Shulman Brothers in Vandalia, IL, for 40 years and a director of Poole Deposit Bank. He was a member of Poole Church of Christ, Poole Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 604 for 50 years, a Shriner with Western Kentucky Consistory in Madisonville and a Kentucky Colonel. He was also a volunteer for St. Anthony’s Hospice.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Orsburn; a daughter, Pat Meazles of Niagara; a son, Mike Orsburn of Henderson; and three grandchildren.
