Nellie Crabtree
(March 1, 1934 - September 6, 2011)

Nellie Elizabeth Crabtree went to be with her Lord on Sept. 6, 2011 at her home, reaching the age of 77.

She was born on March 1, 1934 and grew up in Spann Hill, KY, the daughter of John and Mary E. Roberts.

She was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Crabtree, who survives her in death. She is also survived by 3 children, Josephine (Donald) Frost of Monticello, KY, Ann (Lloyd) DeRossett of Somerset, KY, and Bruce (Debbie) Crabtree of Monticello, KY.

She leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Robyn Poynter, Terry Frost, Shannon (Amy) Dishman, Robert (Amy) Frost, Shanda(Rick) Gregory, Tara(Daryl) Page, and Seth Crabtree; 13 great-grandchildren, Caitlin Dick, Aaron Crabtree, Kaitlin Frost, Colten Poynter, Josie Jackson, Emily Jackson, Tristan Gregory, Kelsie Dishman, Elizabeth Frost, Maggie Jackson, Ethan Gregory, Alexander Frost, Landon Dishman; several nieces and nephews and other family.

She was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

Having accepted Christ as her Savior, she was a member of Newtown Baptist Church and attended Parmley’s Grove Baptist Church.

Many in the community will remember her from her years of service at the Cumberland Dairy.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 9, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 10 am at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Kenneth Dick, Bro. Larry Marcum, and Bro. Darrell Bunch officiating. Burial will be in Spann Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

In her memory donations may be made to the Parmley’s Grove Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.

Charles M. Shoemaker, Jr.
(February 7, 1928 - September 11, 2011)

Charles M. Shoemaker, Jr. was born February 7, 1928 and departed this life Sunday, September 11, 2011 reaching the age of 83. He was the son of the late Charles Shoemaker, Sr. and Eva (Humble) Shoemaker.

He was united in marriage to Mary Duncan and to this union 4 children were born. He later married Lois Sexton.

He is survived by: his wife, Lois Shoemaker of Monticello, KY; 1 son, Robert (Sharon) Shoemaker of Richmond, KY; 3 daughters, Barbara (Jeffrey) Barnett of Monticello, KY, Rebecca Harness of Lancaster, KY, and Annie (Barry) Cooper of Monticello, KY; 2 step sons, David Edward of Greenfield, IN and George Sigler of Mercer County, KY; 2 step daughters, Debbie Walton of Greenfield, IN and Rhonda Batchie of Lancaster, KY; 6 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by: 1 brother, James Shoemaker; and 2 sisters, Flora Bryant and Laura Bridgeman; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Charles Sr. and Eva Shoemaker, he was preceded in death by: his first wife, Mary Shoemaker.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 1 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Daniel Richardson and Bro. Jerry Browning officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery. Full military honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.

Roy Myers Curtis
(September 6, 1935 - September 15, 2011)

Roy Curtis was born September 6, 1935 and departed this life Thursday, September 15, 2011 reaching the age of 76. He was the son of the late Martin and Clarine (Tucker) Curtis.

He was united in marriage to Beulah Crawford and to this union 3 children were born.

He is survived by: his wife, Beulah Curtis of Monticello, KY; 2 sons, Roy Martin Curtis of Lexington, KY and Rodney Meyers Curtis of Harrodsburg, KY; 1 daughter, Lisa Howard of Monticello, KY; 6 grandchildren, Leslie, Leanna, Courtney, Alyssa, Brittany, and Cameron; and 2 great grandchildren, Jaelin and Liam. He is also survived by: 1 brother, Richard Curtis of Indiana; and 4 sisters, Bessie Harris of Louisville, KY, Faye Tipton of Paris, KY, Wilma Berryman of Paris, KY, and Ruth Ann ______ of Indiana; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Martin and Clarine Curtis he was preceded in death by: 1 brother, Steve Curtis.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 12 – 2 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 2 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Bell officiating. Military honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.

Roe Bertie Kelsay
(April 24, 1924 - September 18, 2011)

Roe Bertie Kelsay was born April 24, 1924 and departed this life Sunday, September 18, 2011 reaching the age of 87. He was the son of the late Fount Roe and Lucille (Crawford) Kelsay.

He was united in marriage to Carrie Jean Bertram and to this union 2 children were born.

He is survived by: his wife, Carrie Kelsay of Monticello, KY; 1 son, James (Sherry) Kelsay of Monticello, KY; 1 daughter, Roberta Downy of Bremen, GA; and 5 grandchildren, Thomas (Alisha), Jacob, Jack, Madisson, and Natalie; and 1 great grandchild, Ali. He is also survived by: 1 sister, Laura Dunagan of Monticello, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Fount and Lucille Kelsay, he was preceded in death by: 1 sister, Rose Huffaker.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 3 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Harvey Atkinson and Bro. Keith McKim officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

Sandra Camilla Sergent
(July 29, 1945 - September 19, 2011)

Sandra Camilla Sergent was born July 29, 1945 and departed this life Monday, September 19, 2011 reaching the age of 6. She was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Alice (Hensley) Fee.

She was united in marriage to Jerry Sergent and to this union 2 children were born.

She is survived by: her husband, Jerry Sergent of Monticello, KY; 2 sons, Jerry Dale Sergent of Middletown, OH and Jamie (Tracie) Sergent of Hamilton, OH; and 6 grandchildren, Jason (Erica), Jacob, Cody, Zach, Johnathan, and Justin Sergent. She is also survived by: 1 brother, Willard (Tiny) Fee of Frankfort, KY; 4 sisters, Athalene Chitwood of Loyall, KY, Beulah (Charles) Robinson of Trenton, OH, Mary Jean (Everett) Owens, of Cleveland, OH, and Cilla (Paul) Boggs of Port Orange, FL; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Roscoe and Alice Fee, she was preceded in death by: 5 brothers, Gilford, Virgie, and Earl Hensley, Ralph and Rodney Fee; and 3 sisters, Katie Ellen and Jerlene Hensley, and Myrtle Bird.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 11am - 1pm at the Fall Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 1 pm at the Fall Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Dewey Burks officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

Ruby Carrender
(November 1, 1952 - September 20, 2011)

Ruby Carrender was born November 1, 1952 and departed this life Tuesday, September 20, 2011 reaching the age of 58. She was the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Neeley) Prince.

She is survived by: 3 daughters, Kim Lowe, Misty Garner, and Heather Carrender all of Monticello, KY; and 4 grandchildren. She is also survived by: 1 brother, Billy Joe Prince of Monticello, KY; 1 sister, Anne Acrey of Monticello, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, John and Sarah Prince, she was preceded in death by: 1 son, Jonathan Carrender; 4 brothers, Jessie, Howard, Lonnie, and Estil Prince; and 1 sister, Mary Sue Prince.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 23, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 1 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Smedley and Bro. Rodney McGinnis officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

James Alfred Abbott
(March 12, 1925 - September 20, 2011)

James Alfred Abbott was born March 12, 1925 and departed this life Tuesday, September 20, 2011 reaching the age of 86. He was the son of the late George and Artie Abbott.

He was united in marriage to Geneva Anderson and to this union 2 children were born.

He is survived by: his wife, Geneva Abbott of Monticello, KY; 1 son, David Abbott of Somerset, KY; 1 daughter, Reeda Sue Worley of Oklahoma City, OK; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by: 1 sister, Dorothy Coffey of Monticello, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, George and Artie Abbott, he was preceded in death by: 6 brothers, Coy, Roy, Robert, Claude, Obie, and Elmer Abbott; and 2 sisters, Lona Abbott and Minnie Vaughn.

An Army Veteran, he served his country faithfully during World War II. A long time member of First Baptist Church, he attended as long as his health allowed.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 6 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 23, 2011 at 1 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery. Military honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.

Joe Bruce Fairchild
(February 22, 1930 - September 23, 2011)

Joe Bruce Fairchild was born February 22, 1930 and departed this life Friday, September 23, 2011 reaching the age of 81. He was the son of the late Kirk and Pearl (Bertram) Fairchild. He was united in marriage to Doris Ballenger and to this union 3 children were born.

He is survived by: his wife, Doris Fairchild of Monticello, KY; 3 sons, Joe (Vickie) Fairchild and Ricky Fairchild, and Bobby (Anita) Brake all of Monticello, KY; 8 grandchildren, Kimberly (Arthur) Crabtree, Kari (Steve) Sullivan, Jared Fairchild, Kristy Haggard, Josh Fairchild, Ashley Fairchild, Terra Boston, and Orry Brake; and 8 great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kenzie, Kassandra Crabtree, Kadence Fairchild, Chloe Haggard, Brayden Fairchild, Terrance and Mariah Boston. He is also survived by: 1 sister, Edna Brasier of Lawrenceburg, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26, 2011 at 1 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Koger Ramsey and Bro. Steve Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

Patricia Watson Barnhart
(December 8, 1943 - September 27, 2011)

Patricia Watson Barnhart was born December 8, 1943 and departed this life Tuesday, September 27, 2011 reaching the age of 67. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Thelma (Stephenson) Calhoun.

She is survived by: her husband, Ernie Barnhart; 9 children, Oreta Rumbawa, Rebecca Beckman, Ellisa Smith, Scott Barnhart, Lori Pruitt, Jill Mabry, Kelly Barnhart, Melissa Martin, and Andrea Barnhart; 16 grandchildren, Jonathan, Samantha, Romano, Sarah, Zachariah, Alexander, Kelsay, Luke, Ryan, Megan, Abby, Brandon, Trenton, Rachel, Patrick, and Kevin; and 1 great grandchild, Malcolm; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Carl and Thelma Calhoun, she was preceded in death by: 1 son, Chris Allen Watson; 1 brother, Benjamin Perry; 1 sister, Wilma Henry; and 1 granddaughter, Emily Joann.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 29, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 2011 at 1 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Old Sandusky cemetery.
