Doris Marie Bertram
(November 19, 1930 - September 27, 2011)

Doris Marie Gregory Bertram was born November 19, 1930 and departed this life Tuesday, September 27, 2011 reaching the age of 80. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Linnie (Miller) Gregory.

She was united in marriage to Howard L. Bertram and to this union 3 children were born.

She is survived by: her husband, Howard L. Bertram, Sr. of Charlestown, IN; 2 sons, Howard L. Bertram, II of Otisco, IN and Mark Gregory Bertram of Charlestown, IN; 1 daughter, Caroline Bertram Clemens of Mt. Washington, KY; 1 sister, Ruth Evans of Evansville, IN; 6 grandchildren, Jason Clemens, Tommy Clemens, Mathew Clemens, Rebecca Struble, Lindsey Wolf, & Ben Bertram; and 8 great grandchildren; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Carl and Linnie Gregory, she was preceded in death by: 1 son, Matthew Bertram; 1 sister, Nell Back; and 2 brothers, Wallace and Howard Gregory.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Robert Hancock
(September 14, 1936 - August 26, 2011)

Robert Hancock was born September 14, 1936 and departed this life Friday, August 26, 2011 reaching the age of 74. He was the son of the late George Riley and Molly Lee (Neal) Hancock.

He was united in marriage to Mary Ada Stinson and to this union 3 children were born.

He is survived by: his wife, Mary Ada Hancock; 2 daughters, Melinda (Lloyd) Jones and Lora (Phillip) Massengale; 2 grandchildren, Stephen Jones and Jeremiah Massengale; and 2 great grandchildren, Isaiah Massengale and Mason Jones; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, George and Molly Hancock, he was preceded in death by: his son, Jimmy Randall Hancock; 1 brother, Oscar Hancock; and 2 sisters, Luella Stinson and Laura Dishman.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 28, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 29, 2011 at 1 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Daniel Richardson and Bro. Bill Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

Dorothy Lockridge
(September 13, 1922 - September 4, 2011)

Dorothy Lockridge, age 88, of Monticello, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2011 at the Wayne County Hospital.

She is survived by: 1 son…..Keith Lockridge 1 daughter…..Janice French 5 grandchildren…..John French, Jr., Ellen Stuffel, Delbert French, Raymond French, & Jordan Lockridge. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 after 5pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 1pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. David Frost officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

Judy Lynn Young
(January 1, 1955 - September 28, 2011)

Judy Lynn Stringer Young was born January 1, 1955 and departed this life Wednesday, September 28, 2011 reaching the age of 56. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Myrtle (Brown) Stringer.

She is survived by: 5 brothers, Paul, Larry, Randall, Gerald, and David Stringer; 2 sisters, Shirley McGuire and Sue Stringer; numerous nieces and nephews; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 30, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 11 am at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Darrell Ragan, Bro. Dillard Guffey, and Bro. Thomas Fulton officiating. Burial will be in Parnell Baptist Church cemetery.

Howard Lowe Corder
(June 28, 1931 - October 2, 2011)

U.S. Veteran
Howard Lowe Corder was born June 28, 1931 and departed this life Sunday, October 2, 2011 reaching the age of 80. He was the son of the late Herbert and Lillian Corder.

He is survived by: his wife, Katy Corder of Monticello, KY; step children, Frank Upchurch of Monticello, KY, Cindy Prestage of Madison, MS, Julie Rosson of Waveland, MS, and Holly Buckman of Lebanon, KY; and 7 grandchildren. He is also survived by: 1 sister, Joanne Corder of Waynesburg, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

After graduating from Wayne County High School, he went to Cumberland Junior College. He was then called to service in our local National Guard. After he was discharged, Howard enrolled in the University of Kentucky and earned his BA Degree in Health and Physical Education and a minor in Biological Sciences. Howard returned to the University of Kentucky to earn his MA Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 03, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 11 am at the First Christian Church with Bro. Joe Tipton officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 9 am - 11 am on Tuesday. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery. Military honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.

Harold Eugene Sullivan
(January 29, 1938 - October 2, 2011)

Harold Eugene Sullivan was born January 29, 1938 and departed this life Sunday, October 2, 2011 reaching the age of 73. He was the son of the late Oliver and Lona (Brumley) Sullivan.

He is survived by: his wife, Hazel Sullivan of Monticello, KY; 2 sons, Harold, Jr. and David Sullivan; 3 daughters, Ruby Foster, Brenda Smith and Joyce Shepherd; 3 step children, Debbie Gregory, Jamie Gregory, and Patsy Carrender; 16 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by: 1 brother, David Sullivan; 3 sisters, Mary Ett Sullivan, Juanita Vaughn and Linda Sullivan; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Oliver and Lona Sullivan, he was preceded in death by: 1 brother, Oliver Sullivan, Jr.; and 1 sister, Leila Hicks.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 11 am at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Hollars and Bro. Anson Perkins officiating. Burial will be in Piney Woods Mission Church cemetery.

Kathryn Louise Wooton
(February 18, 1928 - October 3, 2011)

Kathryn Louise (Ward) Wooton was born February 18, 1928 and departed this life Monday, October 3, 2011 reaching the age of 83. She was the daughter of the late Judge Samuel and Octa (Bell) Ward.

She was united in marriage on July 10th, 1945 to Earl Wooton in Hyden, KY.

She is survived by: her husband, Earl Wooten of Monticello, KY; children, Earline (Bob) Anderson of Searcy, AR, Louise (Bro. Keith) McKim of Monticello, KY, Earl (Fran) Wooton, Jr. of Fort Smith, AR, B.B. (Bruce) Camilleri, Albany, NY, Sam (Tonia) Wooton of Bowling Green, KY, and Teresa Edwards of Monticello, KY. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings: Breta Brock, Mark Ward, Donald Ward, Ethel Melton, Henry Ward, Hugh Ward, Alice Wooton, and Mattie Steele. She accepted Christ at an early age in Hazard, KY. She and her husband served as Home Missionaries in 11 Kentucky counties. From 1967 to 1990, Mrs. Wooton served the Lord as the pastor’s wife at Old Bethel Bible Church. She enjoyed embroidering, bird and deer watching, playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading her Bible and praying for others.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 10 am – 12 pm at Old Bethel Bible Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 12 pm at the Old Bethel Bible Church with Bro. Jeff Bertram and Bro. Keith McKim officiating. Burial will be in Old Bethel Bible Church cemetery.

Roxie Guffey
(April 6, 1939 - October 5, 2011)

Roxie Guffey was born April 6, 1939 and departed this life Wednesday, October 5, 2011 reaching the age of 72. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Cole and Ola (Barnett) Adkins.

She is survived by: 1 son, Larry Winchester of Monticello, KY; 2 daughters, Juney Gaye Decker and Willa Jean Albertson; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 1 on the way; 1 great-great grandchild and 2 on the way. She is also survived by: 1 brother, Clyde Adkins of Monticello, KY; and 2 sisters, Beulah Bridgeman and Louise Doss; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Thomas and Ola Adkins, she was preceded in death by: 3 brothers, Hershel, Woodrow, and Paul Adkins; and 3 sisters, Mary Ann Clark, Judy Gregory, and Anna Keeton.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 2 pm at the Buck cemetery with Bro. Clyde Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Buck cemetery.

Diana Hobe
(August 9, 1950 - October 8, 2011)

Diana Hobe was born August 9, 1950 and departed this life Saturday, October 08, 2011 reaching the age of 61. She was the daughter of Anna (Meece) Malott and the late George Malott.

She is survived by: her husband, Thomas Hobe of Monticello, KY; and 3 daughters, Julia Bauer, Joanna Joanna Logsdon, and Angela Hobe all of Cincinnati, OH. She is also survived by: her mother, Anna Malott of Cincinnati, OH; and 1 brother, Steve Malott of Columbus, OH; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by: her father, George Malott.

Private family services will be held at a later time.

Kayla Michelle Doane
(July 28, 1995 - October 9, 2011)

Kayla Michele Doane was born July 28, 1995 and departed this life Sunday, October 09, 2011 reaching the age of 16. She was the daughter of Carol Elizabeth “Beth” West and Danny Lee Doane.

She is survived by: her mother, Carol Elizabeth “Beth” West of Monticello, KY; her father, Danny Lee Doane of Martinsburg, WV; and siblings, Daniel Wade and Hailey Doane both of Monticello, KY. She is also survived by: grandparents, Larry and Jenny West of Monticello, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Friday, October 21st, 2011 at 2 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home Chapel.

Oscar Bennett Franklin
(March 31, 1921 - October 14, 2011)

Oscar Bennett Franklin was born March 31, 1921 and departed this life Friday, October 14, 2011 reaching the age of 90. He was the son of the late Harrison and Clara (Bell) Franklin.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Ramsey and to this union 3 children were born.

He is survived by: 3 daughters, Linda (Kenneth) Jones, Sandra (Buddy) Troxell, and Patsy (Fred) West; 5 grandchildren; Kendra Jones, Holly West, Ryan Bennett Jones, Kyle Troxell, and Dillon West; and 1 great grandchild, Levi Jones; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Harrison and Clara Franklin, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Gladys Franklin; 4 brothers, Everett, Raymond, Carly Russell, and Hershel Franklin.

He was a WWII Army Veteran who received several medals including 3 Bronze Service Stars and the Purple Heart. He lived in the Stop community and was a member of the Stop Church of Christ, where he also served as minister and elder.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 17, 2011 after 5 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 11 am at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Tom Nelson, Billbert Allison, and Bill Allison officiating. Burial will be in Stop cemetery. Military honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: The Stop cemetery Fund
