Dr. Joseph Back was born March 14, 1920 and departed this life Wednesday, October 19, 2011 reaching the age of 91. He was the son of the late William Martin and Mary (Goddard) Back.

He was united in marriage to Oneida Blanche (Skinner)Back and to this union 5 children were born.

He is survived by: 3 sons, Van Back and Edward Back both of Monticello, KY, and Jim Back of Versailles, KY; 2 daughters, Kim Aspley of Peachtree City, GA and DeLana Adkins of Frankfort, KY; 8 grandchildren, Jeremy Back, Laura Back, Tauna Aspley, Lizz Aspley, Alex Aspley, Joseph Back, Olivia Back, and Katie Jo Adkins; and 2 great grandchildren, Eli Back and Gus Back; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Martin and Mary Back, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Blanche Back; 3 brothers, Sydney, Tom, and Jack Back; and 3 sisters, Lucy Breeding, Laura Ford, and Alta Lusk.

Dr. Back was a Navy Veteran who served his country faithfully during WWII. He was a long-time optometrist in Monticello, where he also served as a volunteer firefighter. He was a member and deacon of the First Christian Church in Monticello. He was civic minded serving as chairman of the Housing Authority, a member of the Lions Club, and other local organizations.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 12 noon until 3 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 3pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Harlan Ogle and Bro. Joe Tipton officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery. Military honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.

Loren Foster
(September 25, 1944 - October 20, 2011)

Loren Foster was born September 25, 1944 and departed this life Thursday, October 20, 2011 reaching the age of 67. He was the son of the late Clay Foster and Derlie (Meredith) Foster Shelton.

He is survived by: 3 sons, Thomas (Lisa) Foster, Scotty (Wanneta) Foster, and Jeffrey (Kassandra) Foster; 9 grandchildren, Mindy Foster Jones, Shane, Josh, Dustin, Tylor, Sethia, Dakota, Jimmy, and Sierra Foster; 6 great grandchildren, Corey Young, Braxton and Madelyn Jones, Savanna and Zachary Foster, and Shalaiana Brown. He is also survived by: 1 brother, George Foster; 7 half brothers, Ronnie, Billy, David, Jethro, Porter, Fred, and Sammy Shelton; and 1 half sister, Maggy Shelton Meredith; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Clay Foster and Derlie Shelton, he was preceded in death by: 1 brother, Randy Foster; 1 sister, Laurie Lee Phipps; half sister, Arlene Shelton Prince; and 2 half brothers, Willie and Ed Ray Shelton.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2011 after 5:30 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Anson Perkins and Bro. Keith McKim officiating. Burial will be in Grant Roberts cemetery.

Helen Viola Brown
(December 31, 1950 - October 24, 2011)

Helen Viola Brown was born December 31, 1950 and departed this life Monday, October 24, 2011 reaching the age of 60. She was the daughter of the late James Alfred and Alma Joyce (Baker) Gregory.

She was united in marriage to Eugene Brown and to this union 1 child was born.

She is survived by: 1 son, James Brown of Monticello, KY; 1 daughter, Ashley Abbott of Monticello, KY; and 1 grandchild, Destiny Mounce of Monticello, KY. She is also survived by: 2 sisters, Jean Brown of Monticello, KY and Anna Raleigh of Bronston, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, James and Alma Gregory, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Eugene Brown.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 1 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Foster and Bro. Danny Bell officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

Wilma J. Dishman
(May 11, 1943 - October 25, 2011)

Wilma Dishman was born May 11, 1943 and departed this life Tuesday, October 25, 2011 reaching the age of 68. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Essie (Roberts) Lewis.

She was united in marriage to Homer Dishman and to this union 3 children were born.

She is survived by: her husband, Homer Dishman of Monticello, KY; 1 son, James Lyle Dishman of Monticello, KY; 2 daughters, Tammy Louise and Joelene Dishman both of Monticello, KY; and Cody Stinson who is like a son. She is also survived by: 1 brother, David Lewis of Monticello, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: 3 brothers, General, Hershel, and Gilbert Lewis; and 1 sister, Roma Lewis.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 12 – 2 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 2 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Luther Dishman officiating. Burial will be in Dishman cemetery.

Kay Winfrey
(November 19, 1941 - October 31, 2011)

Kay Winfrey was born November 19, 1941 and departed this life Monday, October 31, 2011 reaching the age of 69. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Russell and Ruby (Dean) Russell Prince.

She was united in marriage to Bill Winfrey and to this union 3 children were born.

She is survived by: 1 son, Douglas Winfrey of Indianapolis, IN; and 1 daughter, Tami (J.R.) Sims of South Lyon, MI. She is also survived by: 1 brother, Gary Russell of Monticello, KY; and 3 sisters, Linda Roberts, Phyllis Southwood, and Debbie Dishman all of Monticello, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, John Henry Russell and Ruby Prince, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Bill Winfrey; 1 son, Ronnie Winfrey; and 4 brothers, Logan, Bobby Lynn, and Billy Bruce Russell and Lannie Prince.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 5 – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10 am at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Darrell Ragan officiating. Burial will be in Parnell Baptist Church cemetery.

Sheila Yvonne Jackson
(October 20, 1947 - November 12, 2011)

Sheila Yvonne Abbott Jackson was born October 20, 1947 and departed this life Saturday, November 12, 2011 reaching the age of 64. She was the daughter of the late Orvin Rue Abbott, Sr. and Ethel Beatrice Bertram. She was united in marriage to Robert Jackson who precedes her in death.

Robert and Sheila are survived by their children, Rob (Carla) Jackson and Marty (Connie) Jackson, and Vicki Basham all of Monticello, KY; and 8 grandchildren, Shawn and Sydney Jackson; Jordan, Logan and Landan Basham; Blake Roberts, Robert Jackson, II and Robert Lowe. Sheila is also survived by her brother, Orvin Rue Abbott, Jr. of Monticello, KY; and her sisters, Sandra Marlene White of Lexington, KY, Pamela Darlene Bertram of Tucson, AZ, and Donna Arleen Gramling of Nancy, KY. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends who mourn her passing. Sheila had accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was a member of the Fall Creek Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 4 – 7 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 7 pm at the Marvin S. Micki Pierce
(March 29, 1953 - November 16, 2011)

Micki Alexander Pierce was born March 29, 1953 and departed this life Wednesday, November 16, 2011 reaching the age of 58. She was the daughter of Stella (Watson) Sexton and the late Milton Alexander.

She is survived by: her husband, Roy Pierce of Monticello, KY; 7 children, Tawnya Evans and Doug Fowler both of New Castle, IN, Nikki (Michael) Turnage of Las Vegas, NV, Michelle (David) Newman, Michael Pierce, Melissa (Fred) Weisheit, Mark (Kellie) Pierce, and Kelli Rishforth all of New Castle, IN; 13 grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, and Jonathan Evans, Toby Emmons, Angel Fowler, Megan and Morgan McIver, Kyle and Emily Pierce, Brittany and Brooke Woods, Brandi Wiesheit, and Jayla White; and 1 great grandchild, Carrie Evans.

She is also survived by: her mother, Stella Sexton and step father, Kenneth Sexton of Monticello, KY; 1 brother, Bruce Alexander of New Castle, IN; and 1 sister, Diane (Lee) Beard of Greenfield, IN; step brother; step sisters; special aunts, uncles, and cousins; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her father, Milton Alexander, she was preceded in death by: 1 brother, Milton Thomas Alexander; 1 sister, Rita Gaye Alexander; and 1 great granddaughter, Gracie Evans.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 19, 2011 from 2 – 6 pm in the chapel of the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home and on Monday, November 21, 2011 from 3 – 8 pm in the chapel of the Hinsey-Brown Funeral Home in New Castle, IN. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 1 pm at the Hinsey-Brown Funeral Home with burial will be in the South Mound cemetery in New Castle, IN.

Katherine Hawkins
(August 19, 1934 - November 18, 2011)

Katherine Hawkins, age 77 of Monticello, KY, passed away Friday, November 18, 2011 at Golden Years Nursing Home in Monticello, KY after an extended illness.

She was born August 19, 1934 in Warrensburg, NY; the daughter of the late John Raymond and Edith (Krueger) Heingartner.

She is survived by: 3 children, Bonnie Hongo of Monticello, KY, Carl Hongo and Timothy Hongo both of Shelton, CT; 12 grandchildren, Christopher Hongo, Kimberly Hongo, and Paul Hongo, Jr., Jeffrey K. Cyr, Brandy K. Bigelow- Denney, Crystal Bigelow, Eric Ritter, Jill E. Hongo, Stacy A. Hongo, Stephanie L. Hongo, Hailey E. Hongo and Quinton T. Hongo; and 5 great grandchildren, Ryan Massingale, Damion Massingale, William Cyr, Tyler Cyr, and Chase Hongo. She is also survived by: 1 sister, Virginia Nettleton of Las Vegas, NV; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Raymond and Edith Heingartner, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Jim Hawkins; 1 son, Joseph Paul Hongo; 1 daughter, Julia S. Hongo; and 1 grandson, Aaron Hongo.

He is survived by: his wife, Mary (Anderson) Guinn; 1 son, William Howard Daniel of Monticello, KY; 1 daughter, Joyce Hancock of Monticello, KY; 9 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Grover Cleveland and Mary Alice Guinn, he was preceded in death by: 1 son, Nathan Wayne Guinn; 1 daughter, Hazel Charlene Owens; 5 brothers, Walter, Luther, Hayden, Wendell and Grover Cleveland “G.C.” Guinn; and 1 sister, Floy Guinn.

Russell Turner, age 73, formerly of Monticello, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
