William Hayden Martin
(July 5, 1945 - December 30, 2012)

U.S. Veteran
William Hayden Martin was born July 5, 1945 and departed this life Sunday, December 30, 2012 reaching the age of 67. He was the son of the late Sheard Martin and Eva Jane Coffey.

He is survived by: one daughter, Jill (Roger) Upchurch; and 2 grandchildren, Chelsey and Savannah. He is also survived by: 4 sisters, Joyce Anderson, Lyla Crabtree, Anna Miller, and Winona Humble; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

Hayden served his country faithfully in the Army National Guard from February 1963 to November 1994.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 1st, 2013 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home and Wednesday, January 2nd at Roger’s Grove Baptist Church from 8 am until the service time. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 1 pm at the Roger’s Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Danny Bell and Bro. Chris Blevins officiating. Burial will be in Dodson cemetery.

Kenneth "Earl" Hatfield
June 21, 1949 - December 31, 2012

Kenneth “Earl” Hatfield was born June 21, 1949 and departed this life Monday, December 31, 2012 reaching the age of 63. He was the son of the late George Frank and Ona Earl (Parmley) Hatfield.

He was united in marriage to Vannie Parmley and to this union 3 children were born.

He is survived by: his wife, Vannie Hatfield; 1 son, David Hatfield, (wife, Stacey); and 2 daughters, Rhonda Hatfield-Jeffers, (husband, William Kevin Jeffers) and Tammy Hatfield; and 3 grandchildren, Colton, Tanner, and Makena Hatfield. He is also survived by: 1 brother, Theo Hatfield; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Frank and Ona Hatfield, he was preceded in death by: 1 brother, George Hatfield, Jr.; and 5 sisters, Nell Morris, Faye Woody, Sue Marcum, Louise Morris, and Kaye Hatfield.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 5:30 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home and Saturday, January 5th from 9am – 1 pm at the Parmley’s Grove Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 1 pm at the Parmley’s Grove Church with Bro. Larry Marcum, Bro. Garry Lovit, and Bro. Walter Bell officiating. Burial will be in Parmley’s Grove Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: Parmley’s Grove Baptist Church

Ethel Faye Sullivan
(July 8, 1931 - January 5, 2013)

Ethel Faye Sullivan was born July 8, 1931 and departed this life Saturday, January 5, 2013 reaching the age of 81. She was the daughter of the late Marshall and Florence (Brumley) Hall.

She was united in marriage to Chester Sullivan and to this union 7 children were born.

She is survived by: 3 sons, James (Ruby) Sullivan, Bruce Sullivan, and Hank (Pamela) Sullivan; 4 daughters, Sue (Johnny) Craig, Dorothy Sullivan, Geraldine Sullivan (companion, Tommy), and Anna (Ricky) Brown; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Marshall and Florence Hall, she was preceded in death by: 4 brothers, Robert Sullivan, Glen, Cecil, and Lawrence Hall; sister, Louise Hall and 2 who died in infancy; 1 grandchild; and 2 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 7, 2013 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Bro. Keith McKim officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

Veola Katherine Pennington
December 3, 1932 - January 5, 2013

Veola Katherine Burks Pennington was born December 3, 1932 and departed this life Saturday, January 5, 2013 reaching the age of 80. She was the daughter of the late James and Alice (Southwood) Burks.

She is survived by: her husband, Eldon “Cotton” Pennington of Monticello, KY; 1 brother, Jack (Lena) Burks of Monticello, KY; and 1 sister, Mary Vivian Dodson of Monticello, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, James and Alice Burks, she was preceded in death by: 2 brothers, Robert and Jim Burks; and 2 sisters, Ruth Hicks and Vena Piercy.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 7, 2013 from 6 – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Bro. Harlan Ogle and Bro. Bob Duranceau officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

Kenneth Bowlin
June 29, 1935 - January 10, 2013

Kenneth Bowlin was born June 29, 1935 and departed this life Thursday, January 10, 2013 reaching the age of 77. He was the son of the late Leslie and Lou (Brummett) Bowlin.

He was united in marriage on November 3, 1956 to his sweetheart and friend, Mary Kay Abbott and to this union 3 children were born.

He is survived by: his wife, Mary Kay Bowlin of Monticello, KY; 2 daughters, Debbie Bowlin (Scott) Large of Cookeville, TN and Linda Bowlin Adkins of Monticello, KY; former son-in-law, Bruce Adkins; 4 grandchildren, Lindsey Large, Chris Large, Chad (Brittany) Adkins and Sherry Adkins (Jordan) Chriswell; and 1 great granddaughter (who was named after Kenneth and Mary Kay) Kinsley M’Kay Chriswell. Kenneth was the baby of his family of 12 children and is survived by: 1 sister, Francis Dugger of Lima, OH; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Leslie and Lou Bowlin, he was preceded in death by: his son, Kenneth Ray Bowlin, Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Margie (Poore) Bowlin; 2 brothers, Earl and Claude Bowlin; and 8 sisters, Ruth Brown, Jewel Lair, Marie Bowlin, Shirley Stinson, Lena Naftzger, Pauline Bowlin, Ovaline Bowlin, and Opal Kelley.

Kenneth operated a local business, Bowlin’s Used Furniture for 46 years. He enjoyed working and talking to his customers. He also loved collecting and trading knives; as well as listening to and telling stories.

He was led to Christ through his daughter, Debbie Large on February 27, 1998 at the age of 62. He attended Sam Humble’s Life Temple Church and was currently attending Mt. Pleasant Fellowship with Bro. Darrell Bunch when his health permitted. He loved God and prayed every day for his family to all be saved. He had a strong faith in God, his Savior. After he found out he was sick, his favorite quote was “I’m no worse today than I was yesterday. I wasn’t promised a tomorrow.”

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 6 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Bro. Darrell Bunch officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

Payton Andrew Dobbs
(January 5, 2013 - January 10, 2013)

Payton Andrew Dobbs, infant child, born January 5, 2013 and entered into eternal life Thursday, January 10, 2013. He was the son of Dewayne Dobbs and Michelle McAninch.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by: 2 brothers, Braden and Parker Dobbs; and 2 sisters, Madison McAninch and Chloe Foster; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 14, 2013 from 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14, 2013 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Bro. Slade officiating. Burial will be in New Sandusky cemetery.

Dennis Ferrell
(May 8, 1931 - January 15, 2013)

Dennis Ferrell, age 81, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at his home. He was born, May 8, 1931 at Tolers Ridge, the son of George and Martha Jane (Winchester) Ferrell.

He was united in marriage to Doris Evelyn Kidd, whom he said was the prettiest little girl he had ever seen on August 4, 1951. To this union 5 children were born.

Dennis is survived by his wife - Doris, children, Kenneth, Rita, Donald, Steve (Joyce), and Danny (Kathy), all of Monticello. Grandchildren, Kristen, Tiffany, Micah, Ashley, Danielle, and Shandra, step-grandchildren, Selena, Kim, and Jessica, 9 great-grandchildren and 3 on the way, Sister, Marie and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother (Everett), and baby sister (Pearl).

Dennis loved to hunt, fish, pitch horseshoes, picnic, and cook out with the family. He loved to garden.

He worked in the Lumber Business most of his life. He retired from Monticello School and spent most of his time gardening and wood working until COPD forced him to stop.

He spent a lot of time with his grand-dog, Sassy and she loved him immensely and was very protective of him.

He read his Bible a lot. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized with his family there. What a wonderful day!

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 18, 2013 at 2 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Catron and Stan Martin officiating. Special music by Jared Duncan, Bill Hicks, & Lester Dishman. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

Bertha Cooper
January 16, 1918 - January 15, 2013

Bertha Cooper was born January 16, 1918 and departed this life Tuesday, January 15, 2013 reaching the age of 94. She was the daughter of the late William Alfred “Boose” and Belle (Coffey) Foster.

She was united in marriage on July 11, 1937 to Claudie Edwin Cooper and to this union 4 children were born.

She is survived by: one daughter, Katy (Robert) York, of Monticello, KY; three sons, Ken (Doris) of Louisville, KY, Mike (Donna) of Monticello, KY, and Terry (Elizabeth) of Boca Raton, FL; 7 grandchildren Jeff (Theresa) York, Vicki (Danny) Davis, Todd (Donya) York, Shawn Cooper, Jason Cooper, Vanessa (Wes) Cates, Lauren (David) Taylor; 10 Great- Grandchildren, Matthew & Tasia York, Brandon, Zoe, & Nikolas Davis, Ethan York, Cody & Dustin Mattingly, Briley & Avery Cates; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Boose and Belle Foster, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Claudie Cooper; and 2 brothers, Grover and Roy Foster.

Bertha was born in the Big Sinking community. She accepted Christ at an early age.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Dr. Chris Gray and Bro. Dennis Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring cemetery.

Debbie Atkinson
November 23, 2012

Debbie Atkinson was born January 27, 1963 and departed this life Friday, November 23, 2012 reaching the age of 47. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Effie (Ferrell) Allen.

She is survived by: her husband, Bill Atkinson; 1 daughter, Megan Atkinson; 1 step son, Justin Atkinson; 2 step grandchildren, Isaiah and Ava Atkinson; and 2 godchildren, Ryan Burke and Chloe Alvarez. She is also survived by: 5 sisters, Betty (Cecil) Lowe, Joyce Ann (Johnny) Garner, Gladys Faye McGuire (Lloyd Abbott), Kathy (Tommy) Russell, and Patricia Burnett (Jeff Alley); along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Richard and Effie Allen, she was preceded in death by: 2 sisters, Wanda Crabtree and Carolyn Sue Sharp.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 26, 2012 from 9 am – 3 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 26, 2012 at 3 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Bro. Ricco Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Roger’s Grove cemetery.
