Maudie Stanley
Maudie Jane (Scott) Stanley, 83, of Hardy, Kentucky, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, in the Skilled Nursing Facility at South Williamson ARH.

Born Nov. 17, 1918, in Hardy, she was a daughter of the late Julius and Polly "Sissy" Hatfield Scott.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Stanley; one son, Virgil Stanley Jr., and six brothers, Pete, Erman, Sherman, Charlie, John B. and Bankie Scott.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Narrows Branch Old Regular Baptist Church for 45 years.

Survivors include three sons, William Darrel Stanley of Cleviston, Fla., Eddie Lee Stanley of La Belle, Fla., and Larry Bruce Stanley of Hardy; two daughters, Carolyn Sue Varney of Jeffersonville, Tenn., and Betty Jane Ousley of Pikeville, Kentucky; three sisters, Magdaline Blackburn of Hardy, Fern Brown of Ceredo-Kenova and Georgia Brown, address unknown; 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel in Toler, Kentucky, with Elders Bobby Scott, Richard Staton, Hobart Hamilton and Lacy Walters officiating.

Burial will follow in Julius Scott cemetery in Hardy.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at the funeral home, with services scheduled for 7 p.m.

Leroy Garrison, Jr.
Leroy E. Garrison, Jr., 63, of Belfry, Kentucky, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at his residence.

Born Jan. 15, 1938, in Lebanon, Mo., he was a son of Dorothy Garrison of Lebanon and the late Leroy E. Garrison.

He was employed in the maintenance department at Appalachian Regional Hospital and was a member of the American Legion for 20 years, serving as a life member with DAV #141. He was a member of the Sharondale Church of Christ. He was also an Army veteran, serving as chief engineer of unlimited vessels, a warrant officer, retired officers association and the DAV Commanders Club.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Ellen Garrison, and one sister, Ellen Garrison.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Faye Garrison of Belfry; one son, Leroy Garrison III of Belfry; one daughter, Judith Elaine (Judy) Lipscomb of Hampton, Va.; three brothers, Bill Garrison of Kansas, Gary Gene Garrison of Springfield, Mo., and Harry Lynn Garrison of Jefferson, Mo., and three grandchildren, Ashley, Mahaly and Courtney Lipscomb, all of Hampton, Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, at Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, with Bob Werntz officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Huddy, Kentucky

DAV Rites will be performed by Chapter 141.

Pallbearers will be Clemmit Dillard, Gary Venturino, Shane Stanley, Glen Gannon, Gary and Barry Perdue, Jerry Moore and J.T. Varney.

Jimmy Thompson
Jimmy Gray Thompson, 51, of 110 Bird Hayes Manor, Louisa, Kentucky, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001.

Born Nov. 9, 1949, in Oppy, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Sidney G. and Elsie Chapman Thompson.

He was a retired custodian for the Mingo County Board of Education.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Thompson Jr. and Herman Thompson, both of Williamson; three sisters, Louirissia Burgess of Cleveland, Ohio, Marylin Evans of Naugatuck and Elsie Violet Frazier of Louisa, and two brothers, Thomas T. Thompson of Ravenswood and Charles E. Thompson of Springfield, Ohio.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at the Louisa Church of God, with the Rev. John Sims officiating.

Burial will follow in Chester and Rush Frazier cemetery in Clifford, Kentucky

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at the church.

Young Funeral Home, Inc., in Louisa is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Junior Justice
Earl Junior Justice, 62, of Frankfort, Kentucky, formerly of Ransom, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at his residence.

Born Jan. 24, 1939, he was the son of the late Jessie and Elma Thompson Justice.

He was a retired coal miner from Scott's Branch Coal Company and a member of the East Williamson Baptist Church and an army veteran, having served in the Bay of Pigs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Wilberta Estelle Farley Justice of Frankfort; a son, Tony Justice of Forest Hills, Kentucky; a daughter, Angie (Jamie) Bloom of Marion, Ill.; four sisters, Helen Keller of Henry, Va., Trudie Puddock of Warren, Mich., Ellen Collins of Niangua, Miss., and Eathel Witkowski of New Port, Mich.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Dr. Allen Shouse officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky D.A.V. rites will be preformed by Belfry Chapter 141.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Wayne Justice, Eddie Puddock, Tommy Keller, Jay Jay Keller, Edward Morris, Ryan Morris, David Hassloch, and Mike Hayse.

Honorary pallbearers are Jamie Bloom, Claude Keller, Dan Morris, Al Collins, Joe Witkowski, Jim Marcum, and Billy Adkins.

James Taylor
James R. Taylor, 79, of South Williamson, Kentucky, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born Aug. 31, 1922, he was the son of the late George W. and Lillian Raine Taylor.

He was a long-standing business and real estate owner and had operated the George W. Taylor Co. prior to his retirement several years ago. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Williamson, a World War II veteran, having served with the 468th Artillery Division, and was a Chief Warrant officer with the National Guard. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Williamson Elks Lodge and a Shriner. He was a pilot and a member of the 523 Flying Club. He was a graduate of Williamson High School and Kenosha School of Business and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Eric R. Taylor, a daughter, Cheryl Taylor Hall, and three brothers, Eugene, Richard and William (Bill) Taylor.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean R. Taylor; a daughter, Adrienne Taylor Thomas of South Williamson, Kentucky, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Weaver Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Evans officiating.

Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at the chapel.

Pallbearers will be Danny Stacey, Tony Hambrick, Joey McCoy, Charlie Johnson, Bill Young, Mike Anderson and George Poole. Honorary pallbearers will be Abe Hymore and Hal Epling.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospitality House of Huntington, PO Box 3046, Huntington, WV 25702.

Berry Rogers
Berry D. "Little Berry" Rogers, 64, of Taylor, Mich, formerly of Huddy, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001.

Born Sept. 6, 1937, in McAndrews, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Berry Devert and Birdie Rose Rogers.

He was a retired truck driver with Canton Waste Recycling with 30 years service and a member of the Eagles Aerie #2250.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Ann Osborn Rogers; a son, Kenneth; a sister and seven brothers.

He is survived by two sons, Berry and Eugene Rogers of Taylor, Mich.; a daughter, Deborah Lynn Rogers of Bradenton, Fla.; two brothers, Junior Ray and Harold Rogers, both of Ypsilanti, Mich.; four sisters, Gladys Vargo of Indiana, Pauline Farley of Michigan, Nora Franks of Arizona and Virginia Williamson of Williamson, and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 30, 2001, at the Stark Funeral Home, Moore Memorial Chapel with burial following at the Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton Township, Mich.

Arrangements directed by Weaver Mortuary of Williamson.

Delmer Church
Delmer Church, 79, of Ransom, Kentucky, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at his residence.

Born April 6, 1922, in Pike County, Kentucky, he was the son of late James Delmer and Rebecca Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tiny, six brothers, and two granddaughters.

He was a disabled coal miner and a member of the 1st Samaria Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Maudie Whitt Church of Ransom; seven sons, James (Linda) Church of Morehead, Kentucky, Donnie (Annie), Carl (Gail) Church, Michael and Mickey Church, all of Ransom, Delmer Jr. (Dianna) Church of Morehead, Kentucky, and Benny (Sue) Church of Matewan; four daughters, Arta (Bruce) Tilley, Sue (Tommy) Tilley and Ruthie Smith, all of Ransom, and Nita (Dean) Norman of McCarr; three brothers, Berl Church of South Carolina and Chester and Vanice Church, both of Ransom; three sisters, Pearlie Church of Florida, Mary Cook of Stone, Kentucky, and Ulee Church of Ohio; 32 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at the 1st Samaria Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Elmer Smith and Kenneth Hall officiating.

Burial will follow in the Whitt cemetery in Ransom.

Visitation will be anytime Sunday at the church with services at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Maxie Smith, David Church, Timmy Church, Kevin Tilley, Scotty Church, Randy Church, Jason Evans, Charlie Ward and Eddie Norman.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Kentucky

June Muncy
June Muncy, 43 of Warield, Kentucky, has died.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at the Little Annie Old Regular Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held on Monday until the time of the service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Phelps and Son Funeral Home.

Thelma Cochran
Thelma Mae Harrison Cochran, 79, of Huddy, Kentucky, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Parkview Nursing Home, Pikeville, Kentucky

She was a retired cook from the Old Sharondale Grade School, and member of the Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church.

Born Oct. 11, 1922 in Stone, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late William McKinley Harrison and Elsie Justice Harrison.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cochran was preceded in death by husband, Charlie Everette Cochran; daughter, Rosemary Stepp; sister, Juanita Bevins; and brother, Delmas Harrison.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Jean Cochran of Huddy, Kentucky; son-in-law, Roger Gene Stepp of Lovely, Kentucky; one brother, Alphonso Harrison of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and one grandchild, Amanda Cheryl (Darrell Wayne) Slone of Morehead, Kentucky

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Rogers Funeral Home with Eric Hubbard and Jerry Horn officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky

Zelma Runyon
Zelma Runyon, 78, of Pinsonfork, Kentucky, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Stone, Kentucky

Mrs. Runyon had lived with her sister-in-law, Lois Gannon, for 10 years before going to the Phelps Nursing Home about a year ago.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Born July 22, 1923 in McVeigh, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Johnny Gannon and Minnie Williamson Gannon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Jack Runyon; one son, Darrell Gannon; grandson, John Darrell Gannon; and two brothers, Harold and Reaford Gannon.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Anita Olson of Georgia, Rebecca Hill of Williamson and Randall West of McVeigh, Kentucky; and three great-grandchildren, Arron Tyler Hill, Michael Olson and Amber Olson.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at Rogers Funeral Home with Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Don Runyon cemetery, Pinsonfork, Kentucky

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Saturday after 6 p.m. with a special service at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky
