David Runyon
Mr. David Paul Runyon, 53, of Metter, Ga., formerly of Pike County, Kentucky, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Ga., after a brief illness.

Mr. Runyon was a highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Marines. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart with two stars, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal and Combat Action Ribbon. He was a construction worker.

He was born Feb. 20, 1948 in Williamson.

Mr. Runyon was preceded in death by his mother, Blanch Marie Kennedy Runyon; a sister, Joan Runyon; and a brother, Edward J. Runyon.

He is survived by Teresa Miller, his loving companion of 15 years and the mother of his son, David Runyon, and daughter, Katie Runyon, all of Metter, Ga.

Survivors also include father, Paul E. Runyon of Belfry, Kentucky; two daughters, Martina Reid of Milton, Fla., and Renee Utley of Louisville, Kentucky; one sister, Virginia Pauline Robertson of McCarr, Kentucky; two brothers, Tony Runyon of Abbottsford, British Columbia, Canada, and Johnny Runyon of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and two grandsons, Trenton Utley and Austin Utley.

Lowell Darnell
Lowell Ray Darnell, 58, of Feds Creek, Kentucky, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Feds Creek Baptist Church.

Enoch Miller
Enoch Miller, 94, of Feds Creek, Kentucky, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Feds Creek Church of God.

Debra Ford
Debra Lou Ford, 51, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at the Elkhorn City Church of Christ.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Thomas Huffman, Jr.
Thomas (Dean) Huffman, Jr., 66, of Pikeville, Kentucky, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at his residence.

Born Feb. 26, 1935, in Pike County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Tommie and Mary Huffman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Octavia Hopkins Huffman; three brothers, Charles, Johnny and Buddy Huffman; and four sisters, Eula Tucker, Carol Huffman, Ellie Tucker and Velma Huffman.

He was a disabled coal miner.

He is survived by his wife, Doris (Slone) Huffman; five sons, Mitchell, Randy and Mike Huffman of Pikeville, Tommy Huffman of Peyton's Creek, Kentucky and Paul Huffman of Red Creek, Kentucky; three daughters, Leisha Slone of Red Creek, Vickie Huffman of Ferrell's Creek, Kentucky and Sonja Dale of Floyd County, Kentucky; two sisters, Dorothy King and Shirley Huffman, both of Michigan; five brothers, Cleve Huffman of Slone's Branch, Kentucky, Jack and Bobby Huffman of Tennessee, and Roger and Jimmy Huffman of Michigan; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Louisa Primitive Baptist Church of Rocky Road with the Revs. Robert Worrix, Paul Dean Justice, David Coleman Jr. and Noah Slone officiating. Burial will follow at the Coleman cemetery on Lower Pompey.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville, Kentucky

William Hatfield
William E. Hatfield, 54, of McAndrews, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky

He was a disabled coal miner.

Born Nov. 14, 1947 in Pike County, Kentucky, he was the son of David and Jeanette May of Pinsonfork, Kentucky

Mr. Hatfield was preceded in death by an infant son, William David Hatfield.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife of 30 years, Kim Hatfield of McAndrews; one step-sister, Wanda Sue Bowen of McAndrews; two half-brothers, Estil Hatfield of McAndrews and Frankie Hatfield of Blackberry, Kentucky; two nieces; and two nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Rogers Funeral Home with Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeannie Rivard, Martha Lovitch, Linda Hurley, Cindy Smith, Kristen Black, Barbara Dotson, Nila June Williamson and Betty Kay Plymale.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

Earl Sesco

Earl Sesco, 69, of South Williamson, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at the Neuro Science Ward of St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington.

Mr. Sesco worked 36 years for N&S Railroad. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 101 Airborne Division in the Korean War.

Born July 17, 1932 at Turkey Creek, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Westle and Bertha (Sarton) Sesco.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Talmadge and Willis Cesco.

Survivors include wife, Ruth Sesco of South Williamson, Kentucky; two sons, Eugene (Maggie) Sesco of West Williamson and Dennis (Pam) Sesco of Stone, Kentucky; two daughters, Shelia (Tom) Plymale of Lexington, Kentucky, and Linda (Bobby) Nelson of Turkey Creek, Kentucky; one brother, Patterson Cesco of Boone, N.C.; two sisters, Stella Combs of Boone, N.C., and Madonna Smith of Morris, Tenn.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Rogers Funeral Home with Bill Browning and John Page officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce May, Bill Meredith, Eddie Harris, Carl Butter, Tommy Gannon and Frank Hammonds.

Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the funeral home with special service at 7 p.m.

Alpha Spaulding
Alpha Spaulding, 77, of Columbus, Ohio, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in Columbus.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Phelps and Son Funeral Home.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8.

Clyde Stepp
Clyde T. Stepp, 71, of Hatfield, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Appalachian Regional Hospital.

He was a retired coal miner, member of Nolan Freewill Baptist Church and U.S. Army veteran.

Born Oct. 10, 1930 in Martin County, Kentucky, he was the son of Virgie Farley Stepp, of Inez, Kentucky, and the late Bill Stepp.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by wife, Billie Marie Stepp.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two daughters, Jennifer Stepp and Betty Hickman, both of Turkey Creek, Kentucky; one sister, Betty Young of Inez, Kentucky; and one granddaughter, Rhonda Hickman.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Bros. Ray Taylor and Earl White officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday and anytime Saturday at the funeral home with services at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Kentucky

Wilma Thacker
Wilma Thacker, 86, of Hambley Blvd., Pikeville, Kentucky, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.

She was a member of the Philadelphia Old Regular Baptist Church.

Born Sept. 13, 1915 in Pike County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Louise (Oney) Blackburn.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thacker was preceded in death by her first husband, Alex Coleman, and her second husband, John C. Thacker.

Survivors include one son, Bruce Thacker of Pikeville; two daughters, Louise Ray and Nellie Wright, both of Pikeville; two brothers, Hazard Blackburn and Anthony Blackburn Jr.; five sisters, Norma Blackburn, Orma Worrix, Rissie Shares, Leslie Coleman and Erma Blackburn.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Thacker Memorial Funeral Home with John Paul Hamilton, Danny Hamilton and Windell Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow at Annie E. Young cemetery in the JU Thacker Mausoleum.

Visitation will be 6-10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.

Charles Keen
Charles C. "Paps" Keen, 70, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Elkhorn City Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home Inc.

Rosa Collins
Rosa (Dock) Collins, 74, of Tomahawk, Kentucky, formerly of Naugatuck, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at King's Daughters' Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky

She was a homemaker and wonderful mother.

Born Sept. 18, 1927 in Martin County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Hazel Evans.

Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by grandparents, Noah and Bid Evans; and two step-children, Mary Tennessee Rice and Garfield Collins.

Survivors include one son, Chief (Betty Jo) Collins of Naugatuck, Clearfield (Levern) Collins of Kermit, Whittfield (Wilda) Collins of Naugatuck, Winfield (Brenda) Collins of Lenore, Preston (Nancy) Collins of Wooster, Ohio; four daughters, Bonnie (John) Havir of Huntington, Nonnie (David) Hensley of Tomahawk, Kentucky, Peggy Collins of Columbia, S.C., and Alice (David) Centerbury of Ft. Gay; seven step-children, Warfield Collins, Virginia Lovins, Columbia Hodge, Faye Runyons, Judy Ruth Spaulding, Gladys Mahone and Genevieve Pippin; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Warfield (Kentucky) Chapel, with John Havir officiating. Burial will follow at Newsome Ridge cemetery, Marrowbone.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Warfield Chapel.

Helen Williams, 77, of Falls Branch Road, Turkey Creek, Kentucky, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, in the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

Troy "Buck" Hunt, 68, of Pecco Hollow, Belfry, Kentucky, died Saturday, February 16, 2002, in the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. at the funeral home Tuesday evening..

Steve Darnell, 49, of Belcher, Kentucky, died Saturday, March 30, 2002 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Bailey Funeral Home. Visitation began after 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
