Annette Casey, 61, of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 1, 2002, at her residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Phelps Chapel.

Hester Williamson
Hester Webb Williamson, 78, of Pikeville, Kentucky, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the Upper Grapevine Church of Christ with Harold Hensley, Howard Pugh and Willie Abshire officiating.

Mary Barker
Mary Blankenship Barker, 91, of Stopover, Kentucky, died Friday, May 10, 2002 at South Williamson ARH Hospital.

Born Aug. 15, 1910 in Woodman, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Wheeler and Janie Vance Blankenship.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Barker; one granddaughter, Helen Marie Hurley; two sisters; and two brothers.

Mrs. Barker was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include a son, Jack (Alline) Hurley of Stopover, Kentucky; one adopted daughter, Debbie (John) Frey of Chambersburg, Pa.; seven grandsons, William, Darrell, Danny and Clifton Hurley, all of Stopover, Kentucky, John, Matthew and David Frey, all of Chambersburg, Pa.; one granddaughter, Barbara Hurley of Stopover; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2002 at Shepard Memorial Presbyterian Church at Stopover, Kentucky, with the Revs. DeWitt Furrow and Harold Layne officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dotson cemetery at Phelps, Kentucky

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin Saturday, May 11, at 6 p.m. at the church, with a special service on Sunday, May 12, at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phelps Funeral Services.

PFC Bryant Shannon
PFC Bryant Shannon, USMC, 25, of Fort Myers, Fla., passed away Thursday, May 16, 2002.

He was born January 12, 1977 in South Williamson, Kentucky, and has lived here since moving from Gilbert, W.Va., in July 1988.

He was a United States Marine since October 2001, and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri where he received military police training. He received his basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Calif., and combat training at Fort Pendleton, Calif., where he excelled in all his training and was an expert in marksmanship.

Mr. Shannon was home-schooled and received his GED at age 16. Prior to joining the Marine Corps, he was an over-the-road truck driver for Werner Enterprises, was a desk clerk at the Baymont Inn and was a computer technician when in Charlotte, N.C.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Gilbert Presbyterian Church in Gilbert, and attended a Southern Baptist Church in Lincolnton, N.C.

Mr. Shannon is survived by his parents, Frank and Armanda Shannon of Fort Myers; three sisters, Carolyne (Greg) Sigmon of Lincolnton, N.C., Anne-Marie (Mark) Pickett of Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., and Rebecca (Mike) Lewis of Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho; maternal grandmother, Josephine (Yarber) Black of Fort Myers; six uncles; one aunt; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 2438 Second St., Fort Myers, Fla.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 2438 Second St., Fort Myers, Fla., 33901.

Arrangements by Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home, 1600 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers.

Narie Dearnell
Narie Pope Dearnell, 94, of Kermit, died Sunday, May 19, 2002 at the Martin County Health Care Facility, Inez, Kentucky

Born June 6, 1907 in Martin County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Millard and America Pope.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Dearnell, and sons Will E. (Booty) and Thomas Dearnell.

Survivors include a son, Bernard Dearnell of Hamlin; a daughter, Helen Snow of Columbus, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Hensley of Warfield, Kentucky

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Warfield Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Dearnell cemetery, Stonecoal.

Visitation will be held Tuesday after 6 p.m. at the Warfield Chapel.

Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Collier
Ruby Collier, 80, of Warfield, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2002 at her residence.

Born Nov. 19, 1921 in Martin County, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Bessie (Horn) Dalton. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ray Collier Sr., and son, William L. Collier.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Lovely Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Ray (Judy) Collier Jr. of Grove City, Ohio, Larry Jack (Marty) Collier of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; grandchildren, Bently (Leah) Collier of Powell, Ohio, Nicholas Collier of Lexington, Kentucky, Dustin Collier of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, and Kim (Jim) Scott of Princeton; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Collier and Rachael Scott; sisters, Emogene (Fred) Parsley of Warfield, Kentucky, Virginia (Arthur) Collier of New Johnsonville, Tenn., Esther Cassidy of Inez, Kentucky, and Dean Campbell of Warfield, Kentucky

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lovely Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Lonnie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Warfield cemetery.

Friends may call at the Warfield Chapel of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Saturday.

Arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Inez, Kentucky

Gary Alley
Gary Russell Alley, 42, of McCarr, Kentucky, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Kentucky

Born Sept. 1, 1959 in Ransom, Kentucky, he was the son of James G. (Pete) Alley and Mildred Goldene Alley, who survive.

He was preceded in death by one brother, James David Alley.

Mr. Alley was owner and truck driver for Alley and Sons Trucking Co. He was a member of the Samaria Primitive Baptist Church, Ransom, Kentucky

He was a 1977 graduate of Belfry High School, where he was a star basketball player.

Survivors include two sons, David Matthew (Matt) Alley and Mark Wesley Alley, both of McCarr, Kentucky; three sisters, Denise (David) New of McCarr, Kentucky, Karen (Jackie) Smith and Kathy (Doug) Staggs, both of Ransom; three nieces, Kyla Raisor of South Gate, Kentucky, Jessica Staggs and Lisa Smith, both of Ransom; a nephew, Douglas Staggs of Newport, Va.; a dear friend, Angie Estepp of Red Jacket; paternal grandmother, Vada Mayse of Phelps, Kentucky; and a host of special friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Rogers Funeral Home with Mike Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in the Alley cemetery, Ransom, Kentucky

Pallbearers will be Bill Prater, Delynn Meek, Jamie Trout, David Cook, Chris Ratliff and L.E. Simpkins.

Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Sullivan, Eddie Blackburn, Trent Riddle, Darrell Ratliff, Steve Henson, Greg Igo, Shelly Hensley, Paul Hall, Herbert Hayes, Otis Blankenship, Troy Rutherford, Larry Bevins, Tommy Smith, Dave Hunt, David Sullivan and Larry Mounts.

Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Sadie Carter
Sadie Carter, 91, of Marengo, Ill., formerly of Ransom, Kentucky, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at her daughter's home in Marengo.

Born May 20, 1910 at War Eagle, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Ida Mae (Hensley) Patrick.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Tommy" Carter, in 1966; one son, Hershell Carter; three sisters, Edith Scott, Beatrice Scott and Dimple Patrick; a granddaughter, Lisa Filmer; and a brother, Claude Patrick.

For the past 30 years, Mrs. Carter had been a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and its Women on Missions Group.

Survivors include four sons, James (Etta) Carter of Michigan, Bill (Rita) Carter of Ohio, Gary (Sue) Carter of West Chicago, Ill., and Don (Mag) Carter of Marengo, Ill; two daughters, Patricia (Lloyd) Smith and Pamela (Don) Moehling, both of Marengo; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Carter Yackle of Lombard, Ill.; one brother, Charlie Patrick of Cookeville, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002 at Rogers Funeral Home with Emery Varney officiating.

Burial will follow in the Anderson-Hatfield cemetery, Ransom, Kentucky

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Rogers Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky

Debra Ann Block, 44, of Grayson, Kentucky, died Sunday, May 12, 2002 at King's Daughters' Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Old Jennies Creek Church with Russell Messer officiating.

Lexia Smith
Lexia Irene Smith, 69, of Teaberry, Kentucky, died Friday, May 10, 2002 at UK Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. May 13 at Justice Funeral Home with Sam Crawford officiating.

Cynthia Crews
Cynthia Pearl Crews, 75, began her new life with our Heavenly Father on May 11, 2002. She was born Feb. 7, 1927 at Burnwell, Kentucky, as the daughter of the late Roland Thomas and Emma Jane Phillips McCoy.

During her 75 years she was a homemaker and a successful mother of two daughters, Doris Preece of Logan, W.Va., and Darby Crews-Cairns of Niceville, Fla., and the late Danny Keith Crews.

She is survived by grandchildren George Harman and Aaron Preece of Logan, W.Va., Matthew Varney and Jessica Varney of Niceville, Fla.; a sister, Annamae Bartosh of Bangor, Pa.; special friend Eulene Moricle of Varney, W.Va.; special sister-in-law, Patricia Kennedy of Delbarton, W.Va.; and nephews Walter Bartosh, Larry Butchie Bartosh, Gary, Sammy, Irvin and James McCoy.

She was preceded in death by brothers Ellison, Denver, J.C. and Trammell McCoy; and ex-husband Clifford Crews.

Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Wednesday morning May 15, 2002, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joe Toler officiating.

Burial will follow in the McCoy cemetery at Burnwell, Kentucky

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Pallbearers will be George and Aaron Preece, Matthew Varney, Gary, Irvin and Sammy McCoy, and Marion Kennedy.

Chafin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Maxie King
Maxie Stanley King, 93, of Forest Hills, Kentucky, died Monday, May 13, 2002 at the ARH Skilled Nursing, South Williamson, Kentucky

Born July 16, 1908 in Forest Hills, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late John "Gooden" Stanley and Ibba Burris Stanley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Mont King; son, Bobby J. King; brothers, Carl and Edward Stanley; sisters, Dorothy Nelson and Winnie Chapman.

Mrs. King was a retired store owner and post mistress at Turkey Creek, Kentucky

She was a member of the Fifth Avenue Church of Christ, Williamson.

Survivors include two sons, Charles (Ocie) King of Equality, Ill., and Joe (Peggy) King of Forest Hills; a daughter-in-law, Virginia King of Ravenswood; one brother, John Stanley of Kalamazoo, Mich.; one sister, Pina Bevins of Turkey Creek, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Rogers Funeral Home with Tommy Evans officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Rogers Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fifth Avenue Church of Christ, 11 West Fifth Ave., Williamson, W.Va., 25661.
