Mirtie Robinson Preece, 77, of Inez, Kentucky, was called home to heaven on May 18, 2002 at her residence.

Born Oct. 12, 1924 in Martin County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Tinie McCoy Robinson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Connie Sue Preece; brothers Hayes and Charles Robinson; daughter-in-law Jean Preece; sisters Marie Lowe and Nadine Preece; granddaughter Crystal Renae Preece; and great grandson Christopher Ray Marcum.

Mrs. Preece was a homemaker.

Survivors include sons Don (Gay) Preece of Pilgrim, Kentucky, Pete Preece of Columbus, Ohio, Bob (Doddie) Preece of Inez, Randall (Gladys) Preece of Pilgrim and Crock Preece of Inez; daughters Betty (Dwight) Bowers of Louisa, Kentucky, Mary (Dwight) Sammons of Warfield, Kentucky, Kay (Buddy) Moore of Louisa, Kentucky, Patsy (Don) Muncy of Inez; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Rush Robinson of Warfield and Bill Robinson of Inez; and sister Betty Jean Bradford of Roann, Ind.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Leannah Old Regular Baptist Church with Sabert Nichols, Steve Robinson and Richard Stayton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Robinson cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday and Monday at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Kentucky, at 6 p.m.

Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hubert Ratliff
Hubert Ratliff, 78, of Georgetown, Kentucky, formerly of Pike County, died Friday, May 17, 2002, at the VA Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002 at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel.

Okie Fitzpatrick
Okie Fitzpatrick, 86, of Fedscreek, Kentucky, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at Mt. View Health Care.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Bailey Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held at the chapel after 6 p.m. Friday.

John Ball
John Baptist Ball, 63, of Sidney, Kentucky, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky

Born June 12, 1938 in Pike County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Asa Ball and Leona Stanley Ball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Grover and Everett Ball, and one sister, Mary Ball.

Mr. Ball was a retired assistant manager at Food City, South Williamson, Kentucky

He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Survivors include his wife, Velvia May Ball of Sidney; one son, Johnny R. Ball of Pinsonfork, Kentucky; one daughter, Cheryl Ann Donlon of Newport, N.C.; one brother, Frank Joe Ball of Pinsonfork, Kentucky; one sister, Virgie Sally Ball of Pinsonfork; and four grandchildren, Brandy Nicole Elliott, Brandon Keith Elliott, Stacey Lea Ball and Paula Dawn Ball.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Rogers Funeral Home with Bob Werntz officiating.

Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Pallbearers will be Dallas Ray May, James Donlon, Brandon Elliott, Johnny Ball, Frank Ball and Larry May.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday at Rogers Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral home of Belfry, Kentucky

Darrell Coleman
Darrell Joseph Coleman, 58, of McAndrews, Kentucky, died Thursday, May 9, 2002 at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 7, 1944 in Belfry, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Ezra Coleman Sr. and Lauda Allen Coleman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Maudie Tucker.

Mr. Coleman was employed as an M.T. in the lab department at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

He was a member of the Lenore Faith Outreach Church and attended Pinsonfork Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Ann Ratliff Coleman of McAndrews, Kentucky; one son, Darrell Joseph (Becky) Coleman II of McAndrews, Kentucky; two brothers, Ezra (Shirley) Coleman Jr. of McAndrews, Kentucky, and Cecil (June) Coleman of Pinsonfork, Kentucky; one sister, Maggie (Norman) Tucker of Canal Winchester, Ohio; one half-sister, Virginia Moore of Columbus, Ohio; a host of nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren, Taylor Shandel Coleman and Darrell Joseph (D.J.) Coleman III.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Rogers Funeral Home with Jerry Horn officiating.

Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Pallbearers will be Terry Kinser; Paul, Steve and Cecil Clinton Coleman; Gary, Randy and Del Williams; and Jamie Brown and Dan Woods.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday at Rogers Funeral Home.

Nellie Runyon
Nellie C. Runyon, 92, of Pinsonfork, Kentucky, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002 at Williamson Memorial Hospital, Williamson.

Born Nov. 17, 1909 in Pike County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Weldon Coleman and Ann Thornsbury Coleman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ace Runyon; four sons; a brother, Garfield Coleman; two sisters, Golda Bartram and Helen Hunt; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Runyon was a homemaker and member of the Long Fork Primitive Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Roger (Kelsie) Runyon and Fred (Myrtle) Runyon, both of Pinsonfork; three daughters, Lois Gannon of Stone, Kentucky, Sue (Bill) Sellards of LaGrange, Ohio, and Joann (James) Ward of Kimper, Kentucky; two brothers, Ray Coleman of McVeigh, Kentucky, and Johnny Coleman of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a sister, Jean Neff of Detroit, Mich.; 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2002 at Rogers Funeral Home with the Revs. Tommy Reed, Orbie Justice and Gary Runyon officiating.

Burial will follow in the Don Runyon cemetery at Pinsonfork.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Rogers Funeral Home with special services both nights at 7 p.m.

Gary Rose
Gary F. Rose, 63, of Hardy, Kentucky, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at his residence.

Born Jan. 14, 1939 in Pike County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Arnold and Lucy Marie (Blackburn) Rose.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby, Gene and Jimmy Rose, and one sister, Naomi McNeely.

Mr. Rose was a disabled mechanic and copper mill worker. He was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church and the Belfry DAV Chapter 141.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy, having served during the Vietnam conflict.

Survivors include one son, Burl C. "Tiddle" Rose and daughter-in-law Louwanna Rose of Hardy; two sisters, Kathy (Robert) Allen of DeFiance, Ohio, and Diane (Bill) Huff of Inverness, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Corey Rose.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at Rogers Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Kendrick officiating.

Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Hardy.

Military rites will be performed by the Belfry DAV Chapter 141.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Rogers Funeral Home with special services at 7 p.m. both nights.

Angela Walters
Angela Ruth Maynard Walters, 22, of Brushy Rd., Varney, Kentucky, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002 at Pikeville (Kentucky) Methodist Hospital.

Born Oct. 30, 1979 in Pike County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Phyllis Stanley Maynard of Brushy Rd., Varney, Kentucky, and the late Vernon Maynard.

Mrs. Walters was employed by Community Trust Bank, and was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Old Regular Baptist Church at Brushy, Varney, Kentucky

Survivors include a daughter, Abigail Ruth Walters of the home; and many cousins whom she thought of as her brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at Pilgrim Rest Old Regular Baptist Church with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.

Burial will follow in the Stanley-Hinkel cemetery at Brushy, Varney, Kentucky

Cousins will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation began after 5 p.m. Sunday at Community Funeral Home. It will be held after 2 p.m. Monday at the Pilgrim Rest Old Regular Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Community Funeral Home, Zebulon Highway, Pikeville, Kentucky

Gene Ramey

Gene David Ramey, 47, of Berkley Ill., formerly of Pike County, Kentucky, died July 30, 2002 at Elmhurst Hospital, Berkley, Ill.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Mouthcard Baptist Church.

Entombment will follow at Mt. Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Va.

Visitation was held at the church after 6 p.m. Friday.

Angela Walters
Angela Ruth Maynard Walters, 22, of Brushy Rd., Varney, Kentucky, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002 at Pikeville (Kentucky) Methodist Hospital.

Walter Whitt
Walter E. Whitt, age 92, of Frankfort, Kentucky, former attorney for Ashland Oil Inc., died Monday, August 12, 2002 in Frankfort, Kentucky

Mr. Whitt, a long time resident of Ashland, retired in 1975 after 34 years of service to the company. He joined Ashland Oil Inc. in 1941 as one of the first lawyers hired by Ashland's founder, Paul G. Blazer. During his tenure with Ashland, Whitt became an expert in the field of oil and gas law, and his advice was sought by other oil company attorneys in the region and around the country. He was appointed Asst. Secy-Counsel and senior process agent for Boyd County in 1959. In addition to his regular duties in the law department, he helped recruit, hire and train many young attorneys who later distinguished themselves in positions of leadership throughout the company.

Mr. Whitt was educated at Marshall University and the University of Kentucky Law School. After law school, he began the practice of law in 1933 in Pike County, serving as Asst. County Attorney briefly during the 1930s. He was active in civic affairs as well as local and state politics while a resident of Ashland and served a brief stint on the Ashland Board of Education in 1955. Mr. Whitt was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ashland before moving to Frankfort with his wife in 1995. He attended Buckrun Baptist Church while in Frankfort.

Born in Pond Creek, Kentucky, in Pike County, he was reared in Williamson, W.Va., and graduated from Williamson High School in 1928. He was preceded in death in 1998 by his wife, the former Vicie Keesee of Belfry, Kentucky Also preceding Mr. Whitt in death are his parents, the late W. Scott and Ida Varney Whitt of Pond Creek; his brother, John B. Whitt; and two sisters, Lucille Galyean and Winnie Price. He is survived by two children, Cooper Whitt (Linda) of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Kathryn W. Zachem who currently resides in Haifa, Israel; a brother, South Whitt of Pikeville, Kentucky; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 15, 2002 at 11 a.m. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, Kentucky, with Rev. Carl Hess officiating. Burial will follow in the Varney-Whitt cemetery at Toler. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to either the First Baptist Church of Ashland, Kentucky, or the Missionary Baptist Church of Belfry, Kentucky
