Jessie Browning
Jessie Elizabeth Blackburn Browning, 85, of Belfry, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002 at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born July 20, 1917 in Pike County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Millard and Sally (Williamson) Blackburn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie F. Browning; son Jerry Browning; two sisters, JoAnn Blackburn and Bonnie Finley; and two brothers, Millard Blackburn Jr. and Clarence Blackburn.

Mrs. Browning was employed for approximately 14 years at VanMeter's Hallmark in Williamson, and was a kindergarten driver for the Pike County Board of Education. She was a member of the Belfry Homemakers Club and Old Pond Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Robert F. (Betsy) Browning of Beulaville, N.C., Edward A. (Vickie) Browning of Ashland, Ohio, and Richard A. (Pam) Browning of Belfry, Kentucky; three daughters, Sheb (Cecil) Hatfield and Wanda (Eugene) Hatfield, both of Belfry, Kentucky, and Terri (Donnie) Akers of Richmond, Kentucky; two brothers, Charles (Margaret) Blackburn of Williamson and Ronnie (Glendene) Blackburn of Greenville, S.C.; two sisters, Lillian Beverly of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, and Betty Hylton of Bradington, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; special caregivers Nadine May and Sue Johnson; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002 at Rogers Funeral Home with Brothers Michael Smith, Mike Elswick and Elmer Thacker officiating.

Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Pallbearers will be Randy Hatfield, Rodney Justice, Robert E. Browning, Brad Hatfield, Derik Browning, Aaron Fairchild and Julius Whitt.

Visitation began Thursday and will continue Friday after 6 p.m. at the funeral home with special services 7 p.m. each night.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Alcus Arrant
Alcus Arrant, 82, of Ransom, Kentucky, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002.

Born April 26, 1920 in Holmes County, Fla., he was a son of the late Daniel T. and Ida (Hicks) Arrant.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Coleman Arrant.

Survivors include a brother, Eric (Estella) Arrant of Pensacola, Fla.; nieces Anna Devoour of Niceville, Fla., and Esther Hawkins of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Church Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation began after 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at the funeral chapel.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel.

Thomas Hankins Sr.
Thomas Glenn Hankins Sr., 84, of Black Gem, Kentucky, met with the Lord on October 17, 2002 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Glenn is mourned by his devoted and loving helpmate of over 63 years, Anna McKee Hankins; son, Thomas Glenn Jr. (Vera) of Huddy, Kentucky; and daughters, Mary Ann (Darrell) Williams of Galena, Ohio, Jennifer (Edward) Wilford of Dublin, Ohio, Susie (Boyd) Phillips of Shelbyville, Kentucky, and Cindy (Rob) Robertson of Hurricane, West Virginia. Glenn leaves eleven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Brother, Paul (Sue) Hankins of Lady Lake, Florida, and sister, Aletha (Robert) Clay of Lexington, Kentucky, also survive Glenn. He is dearly missed by members of the ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) Group, a group that meets weekly for breakfast, consisting of Bob Handy, Dr. John Thambidurai, George Johnson, Jack Gillenwater and Jack Frost.

Glenn, born August 22, 1918 at Black Gem, was the son of the late William Harrison Hankins and Mary Vada (Runyon) Hankins. Sister Jessica Rinard, brothers Cecil, Burgess and Virgil and granddaughters Wendy and Sandy Phillips also preceded him in death.

Glenn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Williamson, where he served as a Trustee, member of the Property Committee and as a Food Committee member for the Men of Church and as an elder and trustee.

A 1936 graduate of Williamson High School, he was retired, after 35 years with the Norfolk and Western Railway, serving as brakeman and as yard conductor. As a young man, he worked several years with Sears Roebuck Company. He was a member of Moose Lodge Number 1613 in Williamson.

Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky. Funeral service will be Sunday, October 20, at 2 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, with Robert Schuler, and burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made to First Presbyterian Church, 29 West Sixth Avenue, Williamson, West Virginia, 25661, in Glenn's memory or Williamson Railroad Museum, 2nd and Harvey Streets, Williamson, W.Va., 25661.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris, Clark and Darnell Williams, Jason and Nicholas Hankins, Todd Phillips, Joey DeHart and Ben Robertson.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the ROMEO Group and Sam Steele.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky

Jenny Salyer
Jenny Salyer, 74, of Beaver Creek Rd., Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002 at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Elkhorn City Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in the Elkhorn City cemetery, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home.

Willie Perkins
Willie Perkins, 74, of Ulysses, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at King's Daughters' Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky

Born Sept. 21, 1928 in Salyersville, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Jess and Edith Perkins.

Willie was a retired coal miner having worked at Wolf Creek Collieries. He was affiliated with the Beauty (Kentucky) Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Webb Perkins of Ulysses, Kentucky; sons Harold Perkins of Louisa, Kentucky, and Darrell Perkins of Ulysses; grandchildren Tracy Williams, Ashley Perkins, Melissa Perkins, Steve Osborne, Kenny Osborne and Brad Perkins; great grandchild Tyler Osborne; daughters Brenda Osborne of Ulysses and Carolyn Copley of Lovely, Kentucky; brothers Chester Perkins of Dayton, Ohio, Johnnie Perkins of Mission, Texas, and Ernest Perkins of Salyersville, Kentucky; and sister Alka Faye Evans of Florida.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez Chapel, with James Maynard officiating.

Burial will follow in Yatesville Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held on Thursday after 5 p.m. at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez Chapel.

Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bessie Lee
Bessie Lee, 98, of Louisa, Kentucky, formerly of Toler, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky

Victor Martin
Victor Martin, 83, of Hardy, Kentucky, died Friday, April 18, 2002, at Mingo Manor Nursing Home, Williamson.

He was born April 5, 1919, at Drafford, Kentucky, a son of the late Henry and Rosie Stewart Martin.

In addition to his parents, Victor was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

A retired coal miner and United Mine Workers of America member. Victor was also a former prisoner of war (POW), having served as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Durie Adkins Martin; two sons, Roy (Jennifer) Martin of Sevierville, Tenn., and Steve Martin of South Williamson, Kentucky; one daughter, Bobbie (David) Hubbard of Chattanooga, Tenn, ; one brother, Larry Martin of Justiceville, Kentucky; three sisters, Gertrude Sawyers and Marie Adkins, both of Draffin, Kentucky; and Lena Martin of Phelps, Kentucky; three grandsons, Keith Hubbard of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; Ryan Martin of Sevierville; and Larry Martin of Forest Hills, Kentucky; two granddaughters, Kimberly Plummer of Villa Hills, Kentucky; and Krystal Martin of Lexington, Ky; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Kentucky, with Buddy Kendrick officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky, with rites being performed by Belfry Chapter 141 of the Disabled American Veterans.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home with special services nightly at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Chester Bartley
Chester Bartley, 72, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral services will conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Bailey Funeral Home, Elkhorn City.

Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Park at Pikeville, Kentucky

Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Tony Ward
Tony Jeffery Ward, 42, resident of Cynthiana, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2003 at the Bourbon Community Hospital in Paris, Kentucky

Born Oct. 18, 1960 in Williamson, W.Va., he was the son of Bernice (Danny) Willis Hurley of Stopover, Kentucky, and Troy "Ike" (Shelby) Ward of Freeburn, Kentucky

He was preceded in death by one sister, Pam Ward, and one brother, Stephen Keith Ward.

He was formerly employed as a truck driver and was of the Church of God faith.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Carol Rife Ward of Cynthiana, Kentucky; two daughters, Pamela Toni Ward of Cynthiana and Donetta (Johnny) Dotson of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; four sons, Tony Ward II of Majestic, Kentucky, Dustin Ryan Ward, Corey Keaton Ward and Cody Tyler Ward, all of Cynthiana; and one granddaughter, Abagail Dotson of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the Stopover Church of God with the Rev. Harold Layne, Rev. Larry Rife, Rev. Gary Stith and Rev. DeWitt Furrow officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mounts cemetery at Majestic, Kentucky

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation began Monday, March 31, after 6 p.m. at the Stopover Church of God with services being held nightly at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Phelps, Kentucky

Otis Bishop
Otis Bishop, 81, of Mouthcard, Kentucky, died Sunday, March 30, 2003 at home.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. April 2, 2003 at Bailey Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young cemetery, East Shel-biana, Kentucky

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday, March 31, at Bailey Funeral Home.

Joyce Senters
Joyce Virginia Senters, 77, of Canton, Ohio, formerly of Draffin, Kentucky, died Sunday, March 30, 2003 in Canton, Ohio.

Funeral service will be Friday, April 4, at 12 p.m. at the Little Pond Regular Baptist Church, Draffin, Kentucky

Visitation will be at the church Wednesday after 4 p.m.

Bailey Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Bercel Fields
Bercel Fields, 69, of Mouthcard, Kentucky, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003 at the State Line Pentecostal Church of God, Mouthcard, Kentucky

Burial will follow in the Annie Young cemetery, Shelbiana, Kentucky

Visitation began after 6 p.m. Friday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home Inc.

Cora May
Cora Compton May, 94, of Fords Branch, Kentucky, formerly of Draffin, Kentucky, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at her residence.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at Bailey Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Wilson cemetery, Draffin, Kentucky

Visitation began Friday after 6:30 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home.
