Victor Glenn Justice, 56, of Aflex, Kentucky, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at his residence.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1946, in Pike County, Kentucky, a son of the late Jerry and Cecile Justice. he was a mechanic.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Terry J. Justice and one brother, Jerome N. Justice.

He is survived by one son, Glen R. Justice of Jackson, Ohio; one daughter, Tina M. Maynard of Columbus, Ohio; one step daughter, Yulanda Shannon of Jackson, Ohio; one brother, Jerry Wayne Justice, Warren, Mich.; three sisters, Vivian Anderson of Phyllis, Kentucky; Norma Tincher of Westerville, Ohio; Janelle Felty of Berea, Kentucky; four grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2003, at the Rogers Funeral Home with the Rev. Franklin Mounts officiating. Burial will be in the Slone cemetery at Raccoon, Kentucky

Family and friends will be friends.

Visitation will be at after 5 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at the funeral home.

Eunice New
Eunice New, 61, of Freeburn, Kentucky, died April 5, 2003, at the South Williamson, Kentucky, Appalachian Regional Hospital.

She was born on March 14, 2002, to the late Charlie and Mary Dotson Compton. She was of the Church of God faith and a member of the Woodman Community Church. She was a retired custodian.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Inis Blankenship.

She is survived by one son, Grant William New; three brothers, George Compton and Jessie Compton, both of Freeburn, Kentucky, and Grant Compton of Phelps, Kentucky; one sister, Edis Blankenship of Freeburn, Kentucky; and one grandson, William Trevor New.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the Woodman Community Church at Woodman, Kentucky, with the Revs. Otis Blankenship and DeWitt Furrow officiating. Burial will be in the Freeburn cemetery at Freeburn, Kentucky

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at the church. Special services will begin nightly at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps Funeral Services of Phelps, Kentucky

Kermit Chapman
Kermit Lee Chapman, 34, of Phelps, Kentucky, died Saturday, April 5, 2003.

He was born in Mingo County on Nov. 6, 1968, to Jimmy Chapman of Phelps, Kentucky, and the late Carol Jean Chapman.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife Patsy Chapman.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 7, 2003, at noon in the Phelps Funeral Services' chapel at Phelps, Kentucky, with the Rev. Mitch Bowling officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Phelps.

Visitation will after 5 p.m. Sunday, April 6, with special services at 7 p.m. in the chapel.

Debra Anderson
Debra Lynn Anderson, 38, of Arcadia, Fla., formerly of Pike County, Kentucky, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Arcadia, Fla.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Bailey Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Bryant Family cemetery, Clintwood, Va.

Visitation began after 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Denita Layne

Denita Gayle Layne, 39, of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, died April 30, 2003 at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.

She was born May 11, 1963 in Freeburn, Kentucky, to Iva Lee (Preach) Layne and Pauleene Mounts Layne of Freeburn.

She was of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include a son, Justin Layne of Freeburn; three brothers, Allen Layne, Jerry Layne and Joey Layne, all of Freeburn; seven sisters, Linda Layne of Freeburn, Violet Orr of Orland Hills, Ill., Ola Layne of Cedar Bluff, Va., Pamela Perry of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, Sondra Johnson of Ronoke, Va., Sherry Layne of Freeburn and Teresa Hurley of Majestic, Kentucky

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003 at R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home with Bobby Dale Wolford, Doug Maynard and DeWitt Furrow officiating.

Burial will follow in the Layne Family cemetery, Freeburn, Kentucky

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home.

Bonnie Lewis

Bonnie Lou Lewis, 66, of Toler, Kentucky, widowed mother of five children whom she devoted her life to care for, died April 27, 2003, at U.K. Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky

She was born April 9, 1937, in Belfry, Kentucky, to the late Joseph Ralph Broadhead and Elizabeth Tye Broadhead.

She was a homemaker and artist of hand quilting and crafts. She was of the Christian faith and last affiliated with the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lewis was loved and adored by all her children and friends and will be sadly missed.

Survivors include three sons, Bobby Joe Lewis, James William Lewis and Jon David Lewis, all of Toler, Kentucky; two daughters, Nan Lewis Pack of Lexington, Kentucky, and Sue Lewis Tolar of Chesapeake, Va.; one brother, Joel Henry Broadhead of Ransom, Kentucky; two sisters, Nancy Jill Joyce of Toler, Kentucky, and Madge Slate of Raven, Va.; eight grandchildren, Robert William Lewis, Jeffrey Amos Lewis, Michael Joseph Adam Lewis, Jon Lewis Pack, Edward Lewis Compton, Charles Bryan Compton, Cassie Lewis Tetting and Candance Lewis Loy; and two great-grandchildren, Skyler Blake Loy and Kameron Nicholas Tetting.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2003, at Rogers Funeral Home with minister Lonnie Francis officiating.

Burial will follow in the Julius Scott cemetery, Hardy, Kentucky

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday at Rogers Funeral Home with special services at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Martha McNeil
Martha Larkin Christian McNeil, 87, of Louisville, Kentucky, died Friday, May 9, 2003.

She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont and the University of Kentucky, a retired teacher from the Pike County Board of Education who taught at the Belfry (Kentucky) High School. She was a member of the Hurstborne Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Starke McNeil Sr.; one son, John Christian McNeil Sr.; and one brother, Virgil Langdon Christian Jr.

Survivors include three daughters Victoria McNeil (Lisle) McAfee of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Marguerite McNeil (Prenice) Walker of Lexington, Kentucky, and Helen McNeil (Jerry) Russell of Lucasville, Ohio; three sons, Robert S. (Dottie) McNeil of Louisville, Thomas W. (Beverly) McNeil of Lexington, and Edward (Gay) Dye of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; one daughter-in-law, Betty Coleman McNeil of Greer, S.C.; one sister, Mary Walker Christian of Louisville; seven grandchildren, Kathryn McNeil (Seth) Spearman, Dr. John Christian (Katie) McNeil, Rev. Robert Coleman (Amy) McNeil, Thomas William McNeil Jr., Robert Carlisle McNeil, Victoria Larkin Walker and Cameron Jacob Walker; four great grandchildren, Susanna, Caroline, Mary Kathryn and Amanda Spearman.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 11, 2003, at the Pearson-Ratterman Bros. Funeral Home on Shelbyville Road, Louisville. Visitation will be Sunday after 2 p.m. Also, there will be services on Monday, May 12, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Forest Hills, Kentucky, beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Johnson Memorial Gardens in Pikeville, Kentucky

Memorial gifts may be made to her church or to the Center for the Blind.

Eli Barber

Eli J. "J.R." Barber, 79, of Lexington, Kentucky, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born Dec. 10, 1923 in West Virginia, a son of the late Ethel Burns Kimble and Eli Triva-novich.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Barber; daughter Pamela Bobby; one brother, Thomas Trivanovich.

He was self-employed as a furniture store owner. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, Elk Lodge and ABC Bowling Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include wife Ocelene Hall Barber; two stepsons, Dr. Ronald Hall and Howard Keith Hall, both of Pikeville, Kentucky; son-in-law Ron Rist; stepdaughter Mary Jo Keene of Pikeville; sister Ethel Conroy of New York City, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Jo-lyn Barber, David Barber, Cory Rist and Barry Rist; two great-grandchildren, Zachery Rist and Tyler Rist.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2003 at Given-Dawson Funeral Director, 186 Park Ave., Coshocton, Ohio.

Burial will follow in the West Lawn cemetery, Newcomerstown.

Visitation was Tuesday 12-9 p.m. at J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with services at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2884, Pikeville, Kentucky, 41502.

Audrey Patricia Smith

Audrey Patricia Smith, 68, of Marengo, Ill. and formerly of Ransom, Kentucky, died May 17, 2003 at her residence in Marengo, Ill.

Born November 23, 1934 at Ransom, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late William T. Carter and the late Sadie Patrick Carter.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Hershell Carter.

A retired secretary, she was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, for 30 years where she taught Children's Sunday School and was the Church Leader for the Women on Mission's Program. She did volunteer work at the Florence Nursing Home for 14 years doing hair in the beauty shop.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Smith, whom she married on April 11, 1956.

Other survivors include a son, Steven Smith of Marengo, Ill.; a daughter, Karen (William) Palakie of Marengo, Ill.; four brothers, James (Etta) Carter of Michigan, Bill (Rita) Carter of Ohio, Gary (Sue) Carter of West Chicago, Ill. and Don (Mag) Carter of Marengo, Ill.; one sister, Pamela (Don) Moehling of Marengo, Ill, and a granddaughter, Rhiannon Krause of Marengo, Ill.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 22, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Rogers Funeral Home with Rev. Emery Varney officiating. Burial will be at Alley cemetery, Ransom, Kentucky

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Rogers Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 20503 Telegraph St., Marengo, Ill. 60152.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Sylvia Collins

Sylvia Daugherty Collins, age 54, of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 19, 2003, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Phelps, Kentucky

Martha Marie Dillon

Martha Marie Dillon, age 71, of Inez, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at her residence.

Born December 21, 1931 in Pike Co., she was the daughter of the late Chris and Minerva Mann.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Ronnie and Curtis Vermillon.

She is survived by four sons, Larry Vermillon of Burnwell, Kentucky, Orville Darrell Vermillon of Chatteroy, W. Va., Roy Dillon of Louisa, Kentucky, Bruce Dillon of Delbarton, W. Va. and Chester Dillon of Crum, W. Va.; three daughters, Carolyn Vermillon of Tennessee, Jenny Dillon of Louisa, Kentucky and Brenda Holiday of Rockfunds, W. Va.; six brothers, Roger Mann, Bob Mann, Ed Mann and Chris Mann Jr., all of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, Lloyd Mann of Pilgrim, Kentucky and Eugene Mann of Pilgrim, Kentucky; and three sisters, Margaret Ann Francis, Joyce Francis and Pat Chaffin.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Inez Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W. Va.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Inez Chapel of the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home.

Creedie June Bishop
Creedie June Bishop, 87, of Mouthcard, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2003, at her daughter, Joyce Ann Daugherty's home in Mouthcard.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 1, 2003, 2 p.m., at Bailey Funeral Home with burial following at Mt. Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Virginia.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday at Bailey Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc.
