Roxie Robertson of Mooristown, Tenn., died April 29, 2003 in Mooristown. Survivors include son Ricky Ray of Lovely, Kentucky; daughter Debbie Lowe of Mooristown; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Graveside services were in Mooristown, Tenn., at Jarnagin cemetery on May 1, 2003.

Lee Fluty

Lee Fluty, 84, of Louisa, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at his residence.

Born May 27, 1918 in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Richard H. and Carrie Damron Fluty. He was a coal miner and member of the Friendship United Baptist Church, which he joined in 1960.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Dave and Lafe Fluty and sisters Gracie Burke, Elsie Marcum and Hessie Chaffins.

Lee is survived by his wife, Georgia Copley Fluty, whom he married on December 14, 1939; four sons, Richard (Ruth) Fluty of Lovely, Franklin (Maxine) Fluty, Joe Ervin (Sarah) Fluty and Clifford Fluty, all of Louisa, Kentucky; two daughters, Patricia Ann Daniels of Morristown, Tenn., and Mary Lou Mollett of Louisa, Kentucky; three brothers, Roy Fluty of Ft. Gay, W.Va., Dick Fluty of Lavalette, W.Va., and Edward Fluty of Crum, W.Va.; two sisters, Carrie June Moore of Michigan and Hattie Kosto of Huntington, W.Va.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home with Sterling Marcum and Earnest McCoy officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fluty Lick cemetery in Louisa, Kentucky

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home.

Myrtle Ball

Myrtle Beatrice Ball, 80, of Belfry, Kentucky, died April 30, 2003 at her residence.

She was born Aug. 8, 1922 in Belfry, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Albert Hunt and Jenny Trout Hunt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Ball; three brothers, Troy Hunt, William Randale Hunt and Johnny Hunt; and two sisters, Rhoda Hunt and Magdalene Charles.

She was a homemaker and member of the Sharondale Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Ann Ball Brown of Belfry, Kentucky; one sister, Sara E. Williamson of Hayes, Va.; special nephew Robert Ball; special nieces Eunice Hackney, Faye Garrison, Lois and Beatrice Ball and Peggy Belford; special friend Pauline Hackney; a host of other nieces and nephews; three grandchildren, Troy (Karen) Brown of Grundy, Va., Michael Brown of Belfry, Kentucky, and Jennine Brown Dempsey of Belfry, Kentucky; two great-grandchildren, Bailee and Peyton Brown.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2003 at Sharondale Church of Christ with minister Bob Werntz officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Pallbearers will be Joey, Jerry and Gary Hackney, Sammy and Todd Ball, Nick Pecco and Jeff Garner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Kendrick, Robert Ball, Leroy Garrison III, Tony Pecco and Gary (Bear) Bostic.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday and anytime Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home. Special services will be conducted both nights at 7 p.m.

The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral on Sunday at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Wanda Wilson

Wanda Prater Wilson, 62, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at King's Daughters' Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by Chambers Funeral Home Inc.

Sylvia Collins

Sylvia Collins, age 54, resident of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2003, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky

She was born on January 27, 1949 at Freeburn, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Turner and Maggie Daugherty Branham.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dave Collins, who passed away on April 24, 2002; brother, Marcus Daugherty; and sister, Wanda Jean (Goat) Daugherty.

She was a member of the Freeburn Church of God and was employed as a cashier at Double Kwik at Phelps, Kentucky

She is survived by two sons, Hollie (Shari) Pruitt Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn. and Matthew (Carol) Pruitt of Phelps, Kentucky; step-sons, Jonathan A. Collins and Clifton Collins both of Marksburg, Ohio; daughter, Anita Jean (Rich) Evener of Port St. Lucie, FL; brothers, Terry Daugherty of Phelps, Kentucky, Bernard Young and Bobby Joe Young both of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Shirley Ann (Mark) Ranker of Freemont, Ohio, Evelyn Gail Daugherty of Freeburn, Kentucky, Joyce Ann Young and Donna Sue Young; grandchildren, Jessica Noel, Faith Molly, Chris, Emma (Angel), Seth Tobin, Dusty, and Beatrice Daniella; special friends, "Slick and Tosh, " Chell, Paula Gayle, Brenda, Nelda, Sandy, Granny, Diane, Richard Hurley and Carol Compton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2003, 1 p.m., at the Freeburn Church of God with the Revs. Gary Fields, Muncy Lester, Eddie Taylor, Peppi Francis and DeWitt Furrow officiating. Burial will follow in the Daugherty cemetery at Freeburn, Kentucky

Serving as pallbearers are Hollie Pruitt Jr., Matther Pruitt, Rich Evener, Jonathan Collins and Mark Ranker. Terry Daugherty will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at the church with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Phelps, Kentucky

Wanda Wilson

Wanda Prater Wilson, 61, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, formerly of Beech Creek, W.Va., died April 30, 2003 at King's Daughters' Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky

She was born June 30, 1942 in Woodman, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Pleas Prater and Polly Hardin Prater.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Bertha Pack, Virgie Justice and Lucille Hatfield; and three brothers, Oliver, Fred and Willie Prater.

Wanda was retired from Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include a son, David Leroy (Crystal) Prater of Wayne County, W.Va.; brothers Woodrow Prater of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, and Ernest Prater of Williamson, W.Va.; sisters Betty Daniels and Lola Blankenship, both of Beech Creek; and four grandchildren, Joshua Michael and Emily Nicole Prater, both of Wayne, David Prater of Ohio and Kayla Prater of Beech Creek. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Beech Creek Church of God with Charles Ferguson and Lowell Sparks officiating.

Burial will follow in the Daniels cemetery, Beech Creek, W.Va.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Saturday evening at the Beech Creek Church of God from 6-9 p.m., with services at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Home Inc.

Ernest Cochran
Ernest Cochran, 85, of Sidney, Kentucky, passed away May 22, 2003, at his home.

Born June 3, 1917, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late John H. Cochran and Octavia Cochran, he was a loving husband and father; a minister of the Old Regular Baptist Church and a retired union coal miner and farmer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Stoney Cochran; three brothers, Earl Cochran, Julius Cochran and an infant brother.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey Blackburn Cochran of Sidney, Kentucky; two sons, Ernie Lee (Deanna) Cochran of Roanoke, Va. and John Edward (Dana) Cochran of Dunn, N.C.; four daughters, Joy (Edward) Smith of Huntington, WV, June (Walt) Ferguson of Benson, NC, Gail (Dan) Bailey of Jacksonville, NC and Judy (Jack) Walters of Pikeville, Kentucky; five brothers, Billy, Chester, Luther and Harold Cochran all of Pt. Pleasant, WV and Eugene Cochran of Jackson, Ohio; two sisters, Grace Slone of Pt. Pleasant, WV and Magelene Smith of Sidney, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday nights at Rogers Funeral Home with special services at 7 p.m. both nights.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2003, 11 a.m., at Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church with Edward Smith, David Crigger, W.H. Cochran, Chester Cochran, Tommy Dials, Richard Staton and Dewey Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow at the Cochran cemetery, Sidney, Kentucky

Pallbearers are grandsons, Mark and Aaron Bailey, Ben Powell, Ernie Cochran II, Jordan and Cole Cochran, Zachariah and Joshua Cox and brother, Eugene Cochran.

Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters and great granddaughters, Peggy Smith, Sheri and Rachel Cox, Jenny Coats, Ryan Cochran, Kirby Walters, Hope, Lauren and Tyler Bailey and Macy Powell.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church c/o James Brown, PO Box 152, Forest Hills, KY 41527.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Starling McCoy
Starling McCoy, 86, of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away May 22, 2003, at South Williamson ARH. Born January 9, 1917, at Jamboree, Kentucky, to the late Green and America McCoy, he was a retired merchant and of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma; one daughter, Mildred Daugherty; and one half brother, Lonnie Daugherty.

Surviving are his son-in-law, Larry "Sonny" Daugherty; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Phelps Funeral Services Chapel Sunday, may 25, 2003, 11 a.m., with Revs. Mitch Bowling and Ronnie Bowling officiating. Burial will follow in the McCoy cemetery at Jamboree, Kentucky

Visitation will begin Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the chapel, at 6 p.m., with a special service at 7 p.m.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phelps Funeral Service.

Lydia Smith

Lydia Elizabeth Smith, 54, of Canada, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 2, 2003, at the Skilled Nursing Center of Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky

She was born in Pike County, Kentucky, on May 16, 1948, a daughter of the late Burl and Nellie Scott. She was a homemaker and a sister of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Buck and Fernie Hatfield Scott and Bill Hayes and Julie Hayes Jude.

She is survived by a loved one, Danny Smith; three sons, Ron (Debra) Smith of Hatfield, Kentucky, and Don (Lola) Smith and Danny (Belinda) Smith, both of Canada, Kentucky; two stepsons, Richie Smith and Scotty Smith, both of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Darlene (David) Woolum of Canada, Kentucky, and Betty (Steve) Redmond of Barboursville, W.Va.; two brothers, Bucky Scott of Hardy, Kentucky, and Johnny Scott of Belfry, Kentucky; four sisters, Ruth Nusser of New Haven, Kentucky, Mildred May and Phyllis Dove, both of Hardy, Kentucky, and Kathy Rose Griffey, of Williamson; 14 grandchildren, Jordan Anderson, David Austin Woolum, Matt, Mikey, Taylor, Haley, Sydney, Samantha, Ashlea and Emily Smith, Chelsea, Kasi and Kendra Webb, and Caitlin Woolum; two step-grandchildren, Scott and Leah Redmond; and two special nephews, Jonathan and Shaun Scott of Belfry, Kentucky

Funeral services will be Monday, May 5, 2003, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky, with the Rev. Buddy Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Canada, Kentucky

Visitation will be at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m. nightly.

Jack Salisbury

Jack Raymond Salisbury, 69, of Lithonia, Ga., formerly of Harold, Kentucky, died May 10, 2003.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at Justice Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Salisbury Family cemetery, Harold, Kentucky

Janice Artrip Spears, 67, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Pike County, Kentucky, died Friday, May 9, 2003 in Chicago, Ill.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Bailey Funeral Home.

Entombment will follow at Annie E. Young cemetery, East Shelbiana, Kentucky

Visitation began after 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey Funeral Home.

Laydia Smith
