Beulah Long

Beulah A. Moore Long, 78, of Naples, Fla., and Hardy, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on July 11, 2003. Born in Smithers, W.Va., she came to the area in 1965 from Venice, Fla.

She was a homemaker and long-time employee of the Naples Bath and Tennis Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Valido and Denise DeSear, both of Naples, and Patricia Russell of Bonita Springs, Fla.; one brother, Larry Thomas Moore of Troy, Ohio; four sisters, Bernice Macier of Naples, Wanda Oney of Plymouth, Mich., Ethel Thomasson of Alabaster, Ala.; and Winnis Boggs of Ohio; six grandchildren, Melanie Lowry of Lexington, Kentucky, Steven (Tricia) Tuner, Jason (Crystal) Turner, Matthew DeSear, Chad DeSear, and Shawn DeSear, all of Naples; four great grand children, Katie Turner, Steven Turner Jr., Mikayla DeSear, and Brandon Turner, all of Naples.

Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her son, Terry M. Long; two sisters, Immogene McCoy and Vivian Supple; and two brothers, Robert Moore and Earnest Moore.

Burial will be in West Virginia at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Walter Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home of Bonita Springs, Fla.

Willie P. Warrix
Willie P. Warrix, 82, of McCarr, Kentucky, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky

He was born August 9, 1920, in Pikeville, Kentucky, a son of the late George and Amanda Keesee Warrix.

Willie was a retired coal miner, World War II veteran and co-pastor of the Faith Tabernacle House of Prayer, Majestic, Kentucky

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Lee Warrix; a daughter-in-law, Linda Carol Smith Warrix; grandson, Ronald Warrix, Jr. and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Bailey Warrix; four daughters, Glenna (James) Bandy of Beech Creek; Patsy (Okey) Varney of Varney; Linda (Buddy) Dotson and Peggy (William Earl) Sullivan, both of McCarr, Kentucky; one sister, Hazel Wininger of Dearborne, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, Gail Gayles and Teresa Mayhorn, both of Mooresville, NC; Randy Varney of Thacker; Wanda Ross and Donna Kay Gannon, both of McCarr; Michele Bannister of Beech Creek; Stan Varney of Hickory, NC; Rhonda Spence of South Williamson, Kentucky; Gwen Varney of Varney; Jamie Dotson and Lilly Sullivan, both of Lexington, Kentucky; and Dorothea Hayton of Jonesborough, Tenn.; 18 great grandchildren, Jessica Sanders of Whitesburg, Kentucky; Jennifer Mayhorn and Candice Mayhorn, both of Mooresville; Andrew Varney, Kristy Varney, Jeramie Varney, Daniel Varney, Joshea Varney and Jonathan Varney, all of Thacker; Jonathan Varney of Hickory; Chasity Spence of Varney; Brandon Ross and Veronica Ross, both of McCarr; Stephanie Bannister and Justin Bannister, both of Beech Creek; Madison Hayton; Tylor Gannon and Kendra Gannon; and one great great-grandchild, Hope Sanders.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, July 25, 2003, at Fanning Funeral Home, Ieager, W.Va., with Charles Meek and Jason West officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cub Creek cemetery, at Ieager.

Grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the Fundamental Christian Church at Varney with special services at 7 p.m., and Thursday, 6-9 p.m., at Fanning Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Home, Inc., of Matewan and Fanning Funeral Home of Ieager.

Edward Blankenship Jr.

Edward "Buddy" Blankenship, Jr., 49, of Sidney, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky

Born December 19, 1953 at Matewan, W. Va., he was the son of the late Ed and Mary Ruth Christian Blankenship. He was a retired coal miner from Garrett Coal Co., and of the Pentecostal faith.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Smith Blankenship of Canada, Kentucky; son, E.J. Blankenship of Canada, Kentucky; daughter, Daisy Runyon of Sidney, Kentucky; step-sons, Orville (Misty) Blankenship and Michael Blankenship, both of McCarr, Kentucky; brothers, Bobby (Annie) Blankenship of Mouthcard, Kentucky, Willie (Pat) Blankenship of Harold, Kentucky, and Joe (Helen) Blankenship of Majestic, Kentucky; sisters, Janice (Richard) Rose of Ransom, Kentucky, Phyllis (Joe) Sweeny and Kathryn (Elmer) Bryant both of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Pauline (Robert) Stump of Pikeville, Kentucky; grandchild, Nathan Runyon, step-grandchildren, Karrie Blankenship, Chris and Tommy Fraley and Brittany Smith.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 5, 2003, 12 noon, at the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Odis Blankenship and Rev. Robert Stump officiating. Burial will follow in the Blankenship cemetery at Stopover, Kentucky

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. on Thursday at the chapel with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Phelps, Kentucky

Charlie Wooten

Charlie Hubert Wooten, 80, of Haysi, Va., of Hellier, Kentucky, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2003, at the Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City, Kentucky Burial will be in the Owens cemetery in Haysi. Visitation will be after 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ronnie Ford

Ronnie Ford, 51, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Pikeville, Kentucky, died Tuesday, July 2, 2003, at the Kindred Hospital in Louisville.

Funeral services for Mr. Ford will be at 11 a.m., Sunday, July 6, 2003, at the Justice Funeral Home of Pikeville. Burial will be in the Dan Adkins cemetery at Fords Branch, Shelbiana, Kentucky Visitation will be at funeral home after 6 p.m.

Mae D. Burgraff
Mae D. Burgraff, 89, or Morehead, Kentucky, formerly of McAndrews, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2003, at St. Claire Medical Center, Morehead, Kentucky

Born June 8, 1914, at Big Stone Gap, Va., to the late Thomas Daugherty and Martha Ford Daugherty, she was a homemaker and formerly worked for Brown's Dress Shop in Williamson, W. Va. She was a member of Stone United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Hawthorne Burgraff, five sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are her two sons, Rev. Richard Thomas Burgraff of Owensboro, Kentucky and Donald Burgraff of Avenale, N.J.; one daughter, Melissa Higginbotham of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister, Dorothy Fee of Athens, Tn.; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2003, 2 p.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Thomas Burgraff and Rev. Franklin Mounts officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Friday, 6-9 p.m., at Rogers Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Cloyd Blankenship
Cloyd Blankenship, 86, of Stopover, Kentucky, died on Thursday, July 24, 2003, in Stopover.

He was the husband of Donna Mae Blankenship.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be released at a later date by the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home of Phelps, Kentucky

Edna Mavis Slone
Edna Mavis Slone, 87, Harless Creek, Regina, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Parkview Manor Nursing Home, Pikeville.

She was born August 15, 1915, to the late Hammond Coleman and Sylvia Hill Coleman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2003, 11 a.m. at Justice Funeral Home with Heiko Giese and Leroy Kirby officiating. Burial will follow at Willie Coleman cemetery, Wolfpit, Kentucky

Visitation will be held at the chapel Thursday, 6-9 p.m., and Friday 6-9 p.m.

C.W. Fraley

C.W. "Fuzz" Fraley, 76, of Inez, Kentucky, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at his residence.

He was born in Martin County, Kentucky, on May 31, 1927, a son of the late Link and Ida Blackburn Fraley. He was a retired coal miner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Fraley and Emmitt Fraley; and one sister Lena Mae Chapman.

Mr. Fraley is survived by his wife, Emma Chapman Fraley; two sons, Donald Ray Fraley and Darrell Fraley, both of Inez; three sisters, Betty Howard of Debord, Kentucky, and Thelma Goble and Ellen Goble, both of Inez; one granddaughter; four grandsons; two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, July 7, at the Inez Chapel of the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home with Lonnie Preece and Tim Preece officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapman cemetery in Inez

Visitation will be at the funeral home after 6 p.m.

Ora Mullins

Ora Maynor Mullins, 88, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 14, 2003 at Mt. View Health Care Center, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 18, 2003, 11 a.m., at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2003, beginning at 6 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc.

Timothy Bentley

Timothy Brent Bentley, 37, of Lake Wales, Fla., formerly of Letcher County, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 4, 2003, at his home. He had lived in Kimper, Kentucky, prior to moving to Lake Wales three years ago.

He was born on Oct. 22, 1965, to Delores Jean Bentley of Burdine, Kentucky, and the late Britton Levi Bentley. He was a disabled truck driver and was of the Christian Missionary Alliance faith.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Bentley is survived by his wife, Cathy Lynn Dotson Bentley; a son Kain Britton Bentley of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Brittney Ann Ellswick and Casey Danielle Ellswick, both of Barbourville, Kentucky; a step-daughter, Kayla Daniels of Lake Wales; one brother, Steve Bentley, of Jenkins, Kentucky; two sisters, Sheila Hall of Jackson, Ohio, and Cheryl Wright of Isom, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at noon on Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at the Peak's Branch Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Jenkins with the Rev. John Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Potter cemetery in Burdine.

Visitation will be after 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Polly & Craft Funeral Home of Jenkins.

Goldie Wells

Goldie Wells, 93, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at the Mountain View Heath Care Center in Elkhorn City.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wells will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at the Bailey Funeral Home in Elkhorn City. Burial will follow in the Childers cemetery at Bowling Fork.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m., Monday, July 7, at the funeral home.

Mary Wallace

Mary Nan Stanley Wallace, 96, of Hardy, Kentucky, died on Friday, July 25, 2003, at the Skilled Nursing Facility of the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky

She was born on Jan. 5, 1907, in Knox County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Speed and Phoebe Sears Tye. She was a homemaker and a member of the Toler Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her two husbands, John B. Stanley and Dewey Wallace; one son, Ralph "Jabo" Stanley; one son-in-law, Elder Don Hatfield; four sisters, Linda Hughes, Nell Canada, Eva Bell, and Elizabeth Broadhead; and three brothers, Elbert Tye, Arthur Tye and Homer Tye.

She is survived by one daughter, Delores Hatfield of Hardy; one daughter-in-law, Colleen Stanley of Toler, Kentucky; one sister, Rose Williamson of Kinsport, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Norine (Dennis) Fite, Randall (Jenny) Stanley, Kevin Hatfield, and Tim (Joni) Hatfield; and four great grandchildren, Chris Fite, Chad Fite, Shane Hatfield, and Jessie Hatfield.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 28, 2003, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky, with Johnny Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky

Pallbearers will be Dennis Fite, Donald Thacker, Kevin Hatfield, Tim Hatfield, Chris Fite, Chad Fite and Carl Joyce.

Visitation will be at the funeral home at 6 p.m., Sunday, July 27, with special services beginning at 7 p.m.

Robert Hager

Robert Harold Hager, 51, of McCarr, Kentucky, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at his residence.

He was born on Aug. 29, 1951, in Matewan to Josephine Fields Hager, of McCarr, and the late James Harold Hager. He was a disabled coal miner and a member of the House of Prayer in Jesus' Name Church.

In addition to his father, Mr. Hager was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Opal Fields; and paternal grandmother, Elias and Sarah Hager.

He is survived, in addition to his mother, by two brothers, Brian Keith (Keri) Hager of Ransom, Kentucky, and James Gary Hager of Newtown; six sisters, Cassandra Hager of Ransom, Helen Marie (Darrell) Baker and Laura Lee Hager, both of McCarr, Lisa Kay (Roger) Workman of Hardy, Kentucky, Patsy Sue (Ervin) Workman of Belfry, Kentucky, and Sandra Marie (Robert) Gooslin of Red Jacket; his maternal grandmother, Lillie Fields of McCarr; and a special caregiver and friend, Josie Hager of McCarr.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at the House of Prayer in Jesus' Name Church in McCarr with the Elders Robert Gooslin and John Paige and Brother Bill Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in the Hager cemetery at Old House Branch Road in Ransom, Kentucky

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Sunday, July 27, and Monday, July 28, at the church with special services each night beginning at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hatfield Funeral Home of Toler, Kentucky

Cloyd Blankenship

Cloyd "Tiny Frog" Blankenship, 86, of Stopover, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2003, at his residence.

He was born on April 29, 1917, in Jamboree, Kentucky, the son of the late Bird and Lena Lester Blankenship. He was retired having worked in the timber industry and as a county worker. He was of the Church of God faith.

He was the loving husband of Donna Mae Casey Blankenship; the loving father of Randy Blankenship, Kenneth Blankenship, Patricia Ann Blankenship, all of Stopover, and Luther Blankenship of Morehead, Kentucky; the loving grandfather of nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving is one sister, Pricey Willingham of Ohio.

Mr. Blankenship was preceded in death by two children, Earlin and Linda Sue Blankenship; four brothers and eight sisters.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 28, at 2 p.m., at the Jamboree Church of God with the Revs. Willie Gordon, Muncy Lester, and Mitch Bowling officiating. Burial will follow in the Wolford cemetery in Phelps, Kentucky

Arrangements are under the direction of the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home of Phelps.
