Michael Gregory Sanders

Michael Gregory Sanders, 53, of Lancaster, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at his home.

Born April 8, 1950, in West Virginia to the late John B. and Patsy Tabor Sanders, he was president of Christian Appalachian Project of Lancaster and Corbin, Kentucky He was a member of St. William Catholic Church of Lancaster, Kentucky and a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his wife, Jackie Sanders of Lancaster; one son, Michael B. Sanders (Karen) of Milden Hall, England; two daughters, Melissa Renae Fannon (Robert) of Lexington, Kentucky and Kelli Ann Sanders of Lancaster, Kentucky; brother, Marilyn Mayhorn (Steve) of Morehead, Kentucky; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Lauren Fannon.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2003, 1 p.m., at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Danville, Kentucky with Father Steve Gallenstein officiating. A private burial service will follow at Camp Nelson National cemetery.

Pallbearers are Charles (Monk) Sanders, Claude Sanders, Jr., Hilman Dotson, Steve Mayhorn, Joseph Mayhorn, Richard Ginn and Jim Finegan.

Visitation will be held at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Lancaster, Kentucky Thursday, July 17, 5 - 9 p.m. and Friday, July 18, 5 - 9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Christian Appalachian Project, 322 Crab Orchard Street, Lancaster, Kentucky 40444.

Rennia Lou Dasher

Rennia Lou Dasher, 51, of Canada, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at her home.

Born November 6, 1951, in Kimper, Kentucky, to the late Rennie Slone and Melda Smith Slone, she was a homemaker and a member of the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Gene Dasher of Canada, Kentucky; one son, Stephen Paul Dasher of Lexington, Kentucky; one daughter, Melynei (Tony) Mullins of Elkhorn City, Kentucky; one brother, Paul C. Slone of Canada, Kentucky; one sister, Marilyn Robinette of Canada, Kentucky; and two grandchildren, Cassidy Hope Mullins and Madison Renee' Mullins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2003, 1 p.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Stanley officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

Pallbearers are Rodney Scott, Jimmy Nolte, Mike Thacker, Gary Thacker, David Maynard and Ronnie West. Honorary pallbearer is Chad Robinette.

Visitation will be held Thursday and Friday after 6 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home with special services both nights at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Rodney Watson, 46, of Belfry, KY. died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, KY.

Lola Johnson

Lola M. Johnson, age 78, of Holiday, Fla., passed away July 7, 2003, under the care of Hernando Pasco Hospice Care Center, New Port Richey, Fl.

She was born in Canada, Kentucky and moved to this area 1977 from West Virginia.

She is survived by two sons, Paul of Columbus, Ohio and Daryl Johnson of Hudson, Fl.; a daughter, Fay Jones of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband, Melburn Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of New Port Richey, Fl. Dr. Guy Sanders, Pastor of First Baptist Church will officiate.

Visitation will precede the service from 9-10 a.m. Interment will be in Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens, New Port Richey, Fl.

Arrangements are under the direction of North/Meadowlawn Funeral Home, New Port Richey, Fl. 727-849-9281.

William Murphy

William McAdoo Murphy, 85, of Okeechobee, Florida, formerly of Belfry, Kentucky, died Tuesday morning, July 8, 2003 in Florida.

Arrangements are incomplete but will be announced later by Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Dennis Keith Coleman
Dennis Keith Coleman, 47, of Regina, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2003, at Mount View Health Care of Elkhorn City.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2003, noon, at Bailey Funeral Home with burial following at Russell Coleman cemetery, Wolfpit, Kentucky

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Monday with services at 7 p.m. nightly at Bailey Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc.

Rodney Watson
Rodney Watson, 46, of Huddy, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2003, at his residence.

Born May 18, 1957, in Pike County, Kentucky to Dialpha Spencer Watson of Belfry, Kentucky, and the late Walter Aaron Watson, he was a general laborer and served with the U.S. Marine Corps.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Holsback.

Surviving are his wife, Georgia Blair Watson of Huddy, Kentucky; three step-children, Bill Harris of Johns Creek, Kentucky, Joseph Harris of Florida and Jessica Harris of Florida; six brothers, Gene Watson and Mike Watson, both of Bristol, Tn., Gary Watson of Pikeville, Kentucky, Richard Watson, Jimmy Watson and Ronnie Watson, all of Belfry, Kentucky; five sisters, Margaret Matney of Grundy, Va., Ollie Rowe of Van Zant, Va., Shelby Varney of Morristown, Tn., Janet Thacker of North Carolina and Louise Dotson of Pinsonfork, Kentucky; five step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2003, 2 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

His brothers, Gene, Richard, Jimmy, Ronnie, Mike and Gary Watson, will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Monday and Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home with special services Tuesday at 7 p.m. with Bob Werntz officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Richard Edwards
Richard Edwards, 39, a resident of Freeburn, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 28, 2003, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky

He was born October 14, 1963, in Pike Co., Kentucky, the son of the late Hursel and Emmogean Ball Edwards, he was of the Pentecostal faith. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Edwards.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn "Buttons" Price Edwards of Freeburn, Kentucky; two sons, Richard Edwards, Jr. and Kevin Edwards, both of the home; two brothers, Hursel Eugene (Sharon) Edwards of Edgarton, W. Va., and Paul (Vicki) Edwards of Gussy Fork, Va.; two sisters, Barbara (Jimmy) Bowling and Margaret (Donald) Stevens, both of Freeburn, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Jackie Edwards of Freeburn, Kentucky; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 31, 2003, 2 p.m., at the R. S. Jones and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Odis Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwards cemetery at Freeburn.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the chapel with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the R. S. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Phelps, Kentucky

Neva Vines White
Neva Vines White, 75, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2003, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center, Morehead, Kentucky due to an illness over the past several weeks.

Born October 5, 1927, in Dorton, Kentucky, to the late Percy L. Vines and Maude Horn Vines, she was a retired school teacher having taught science at Rowan County Senior High School for 29 1/2 years.

She had been chairperson of the science department and a senior class sponsor. She was a graduate of Belfry High School and she obtained her B.S., M.A. and Rank I degrees from Morehead State University.

She was currently a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - Owingsville Ward and was previously a member of the Morehead First United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the Order of the Eastern Star where she was a Past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed reading, cooking and her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Fortune White, who passed away Sept. 25, 1986, and one grandson, Eugene Martin Noger, who passed away Oct. 20, 1989.

Surviving are her son, Eugene David White of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter, Rebecca White Noger of Lexington, Kentucky; two brothers, Robert L. Vines and his wife, Evelyn, of Springfield, Va. and Ernest N. Vines and his wife, Bernice of Centerville, Ohio; two grandchildren, Jacob Stallard Noger and Margaret Hall Noger; special friend and sister-in-law, Lyda White; close friends, Betty Stucky and Nan Holbrook; several nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2003, 11 a.m., at Morehead First United Methodist Church with Bishop Robert Bylund, J.D. Reeder and Dr. Donald Durham officiating. Burial will follow in the Lee cemetery.

Pallbearers are Allen Hicks, Ted Trent, J.T. Holbrook, Johnny Pennington, Mark Noger and Robert L. Vines II.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Tuesday at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Rowan County Senior High School Science Department.

Patsy Chafin

Patsy Chafin, 72, of Kentucky 292, Martin County, Kentucky, died on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky

She was born on Dec. 27, 1930, in Mingo County to the late Chris and Minervia Mullett Mann. She was a homemaker and a member of the Philadelphia United Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chafin was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Chafin; one infant daughter; one brother; and one sister.

Mrs. Chafin is survived by four sons, Doug (Diana) Chafin of Delbarton, Gary Neil (Donna) Chafin of Nolan, Wayne (Angie) Chafin of Ft. Gay, W.Va., and Christopher Ance Chafin of Turkey, Creek, Kentucky; six brothers, Bill Man, Roger Mann and Lloyd Mann, all of Martin County, Bobby Mann of Tennessee, Chris Mann Jr. of Georgia and Ed Mann of Ohio; two sisters, Margaret Francis of Tennessee and Joyce Francis of Hatfield, Kentucky; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at the Nolan Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Ray Taylor and Earl White. Burial will be in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher.

Visitation will be at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, Kentucky, after 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 22. The body will be moved to the church on Tuesday where it will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hatfield Funeral Chapel.

Stephen C. Younger
Stephen C. Younger, 97, formerly of New Camp, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Morton Plant Hospital of Clearwater, Fla.

Of the Catholic faith, he was born in Oliver, Pa., Sept. 23, 1905.

He served for many years as safety director for the N&W Mines before moving to Florida in 1953.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Elizabeth Younger; his mother and father; two sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by six children: Stephen P. (Una) of Williamson, Joseph J. (Betty Jean) of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Eugene A (Patricia) of Hampton, Va., George M. of Clearwater, Fla., Rudolph C. (Dorie) of Madras, Ore. and Elizabeth D. (Dean) Stone of Clinton, Iowa; one brother, John P. (Helen) of Indialantic, Fla.; 19 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Interment was at the Garden of Memories, Tampa, Fla.

Clemmie Maynard
Clemmie Maynard, 74, of Elyria, Ohio, formerly of Pinsonfork, Kentucky, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at her Ohio residence.

Daisy Ching, 39, of West Liberty, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2003, at Paul B. Hall Medical Center, Paints-ville, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, 11 a.m., at the Jesus Outreach Church, Big Rock, Va. with burial following at the Big Hackney's Creek Ceme-tery, Moutchard, Kentucky

Visitation will be held at the church Monday, Sept. 1, after 2 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc.

Bobby Hill

Bobby Joe Hill, 67, of Grapevine Road, Phyllis, Kentucky, passed away Satur-day, Aug. 30, 2003, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, 11 a.m., at Bailey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Va. Graveside service will be conducted by the American Legion Post 164, Grundy, Va.

Visitation was held after 6 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2003, at Bailey Funeral Home.

Ernest Chatman
Ernest Chatman, 73, of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center at Phelps.
