Florence Ferrell Robinett
Florence Ferrell Robinett, 89 years of age, a resident of Stopover, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center at Phelps, Kentucky

She was born on July 9, 1914, in Majestic, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Larkin and Dolly Steele Ferrell.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ira Robinett; sons, Charlie and Lincoln Robinett; grandsons, Ricky Allen, Vernon and Timothy Trent; brothers, Mel, John, Charlie, Rafe, Lee, Earl and Pat Ferrell; sister, Cora Hopson; half-sister, Mae Roberts, and son-in-law, Harold Trent.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Majestic Church of Christ for 56 years.

Surviving are one son, Frank Jr. (Gloria) Robinett of Stopover, Kentucky; daughters, Alice Allen of Justice, Nellie Trent of Stopover, Kentucky, and Betty Mae Paschute of Warren, Ohio; sisters, Bertha Sanson of Majestic, KY., and Dovie Robinett of Bucyrus, Ohio; grandchildren, Mike Allen, Virginia Cline, Debbie Hatfield, Terry Fuller, Penny Meade, Beverly Cumming, Donna White, Stacy Jones and John Paul Allen; 13 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home with Church of Christ ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Robinett cemetery at Stopover, Kentucky

Visitations will begin after 6 p.m. on Friday at the chapel with services to be held at 7 p.m. nightly.

Arrangements are under the direction of the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Phelps, Kentucky

Vina Salmons
Vina Salmons, 81, died Sept. 11, 2003, at her residence, 250 Trace Fork Rd., Tomahawk, Kentucky

She was the widow of Anderson J. Salmons.

Born June 21, 1922, in Martin County, she was a daughter of George Washing-ton Penix and Florence Penix. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include sons, Estel Salmons of Columbus, Ohio, and Galvin Lee Salmons of Tomahawk, Kentucky; a sister, Marie Branham of Cloten, W.Va.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held for the family at 5 p.m. tonight at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home chapel and at 6 p.m. for the public.

She will be removed to the Trace Fork United Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held at the church at 1 p.m. Sunday with Minister Glen Penix officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Tomahawk under the direction of the Richmond-Callaham funeral home

Truby 'T.J.' Jentrice Holland
Truby "T.J." Jentrice Holland, 80, of Regina, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Mt. View Health Care, Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at the Marrowbone Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Buddy Ratliff cemetery at Poorbottom, Kentucky

Visitations began after 6 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral directions are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home Inc. of Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Ireson Leo Blankenship
Ireson Leo Blankenship, 60, of Stopover, Kentucky, died Sept. 10, 2003, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, W.Va.

Arrangements for the funeral are incomplete and will be under the direction of the Phelps Funeral Services Inc. of Phelps, Kentucky

Garnet O'Bryan Cole
Garnet O'Bryan Cole, age 74, of South Williamson, Kentucky, died Sept. 10, 2003, at Tibb's Boarding Home in Pikeville, Kentucky

She was the wife of Raymond H. Cole of South Williamson, Kentucky, and was employed in retail sales for many years.

Born Feb. 3, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Eligah O'Bryan and Telia Thompson O'Bryan.

She was a member of the Belfry First Baptist Church and Stone Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was a Past Worthy Matron.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Lhea Cole.

Survivors include the husband; a son, Raymond B. (Sandi) Cole of Morehead, Kentucky; a sister, Ethel (Frank) Loyer of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Jackie and Chris Cole; and two great-grandchildren, Whitney and Dylan.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel. Minister Bob Norman will officiate.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens in Huddy, Kentucky with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitations will begin after 6 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Kentucky

Alex A. Varney
Alex A. Varney, 81, of Trinity Station, Flatwoods, Kentucky, and longtime resident of Ashland, Kentucky, died Sept. 11, 2003 in Ashland.

A member of a pioneer Pike County, Kentucky, family, he was born July 10, 1922 at Belfry, Kentucky

Mr. Varney was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Myrtle Hale Varney, and his loving wife of 51 years, Pat Varney. He also was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara Mae, Madeline and Nell Varney, and brothers, Opie, Clayton and Claude Varney.

Mr. Varney retired from Armco Steel in 1987 after 32 years of service. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific theater of operations.

A talented basketball player, he received many honors including Best Passer in Region 15 in 1940; captain of Belfry High School basketball teams from 1939 to 1941, and recipient of the Western Kentucky University Basketball Scholarship.

He also was the first member inducted into the Belfry High School Athletic Hall of Fame on April 23, 1988.

He is survived by his sister, Nina Trout of Georgetown, Kentucky He is the beloved father and grandfather of his daughters, Rhonda (Robert) Osburn of Ashland, Kentucky, and Mary Branstetter of Reading, Pa., and his son, Bob (Angela) Varney of Ashland, Kentucky; grandchildren, Julia (Robert) Smith, Jason (Jennifer) Hutchinson, Brad (Shelley) Osburn, Chris Fleming, Emily Fleming, Colin Varney and Morgan Varney; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Smith and Drew Osburn. He also is the uncle to a host of nieces and nephews.

Pastor Ed Caudill will hold funeral services Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Steen Funeral Home's Ashland Chapel on Central Avenue. Entombment will be in the Ashland cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at Steen Funeral Home's Ashland Chapel, and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Contribution may be made to the Trinity Station Retirement Center Activities Fund, 2121 Argillite Rd., Flatwoods, Kentucky 41139.

Basil Gillman
Basil Gillman, 72, native of Hatfield, Kentucky, died Friday Sept. 19, 2003.

The son of the late Hi Gillman, he was a retired coal miner and also retired from the Eastman Kodak Co. in N.Y.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Robinette Gillman.

Funeral services will be held at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003 at Scobee Funeral Home with Rev. Elbet Sisco and Rev. Danny Runyon officiating. Burial will follow in the Winchester cemetery.

George Charles Howell
George Charles Howell, 57, of Ashland, Kentucky, passed away Monday, September 1, 2003, in Ashland.

He was born February 3, 1946, in Williamson, W. Va. to the late Julius Ferrell and Pearl Bailey Howell.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, 2003, 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Ashland, with Rev. Dale Carden officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashland cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 4, 5-8 p.m. at Marshall Steen Funeral Home, 3409 13th Street, Ashland, Kentucky

Monteville Mullins
Monteville Mullins, 91, of Gallipolis, Ohio, died on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at the Holzer Senior Care Center..

Private services and entombment were conducted at the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens.

Ireson Blankenship
Ireson Leo Blankenship, 60, of Stopover, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 in Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Born Sept. 4, 1943 at Stopover, he was a son of the late Floyd Blankenship and Linda Keene Blankenship. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita and Maudie Blankenship.

Mr. Blankenship was of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include brothers, Lonnie Blankenship of Cynthiana, Kentucky, Douglas Blankenship of Mainville, Ohio, and Donald and Mack Blankenship of Stopover, Kentucky, and sisters, Gertrude Chinn and Hazel Foster of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Bobbie Ferrell of Mainville, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at the Stopover Church of God, Stopover, Kentucky, with the Rev. Harold Layne officiating.

Burial will follow in the Blankenship cemetery at Stopover. Pallbearers will be Jody Ferrell, Reco Ferrell, Rick Blankenship, Rocky Blankenship, Paul Hurley and Chuck Blankenship.

Visitation began at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at the church. Services were held Friday night and will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Mary R. Farley
Mary R. Farley, 77, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Majestic, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus/

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Farley; parents, Martin C. and Mary Toler Tabor.

She is survived by her son, Martin E. (Karen) Browning of Columbus; daughter, Sandra (Joe) Nightwine of Galloway, Ohio; grandchildren, Nikki (Brian) Budd, Angie Browning and Martin Browning; four great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Tabor of Galloway, Eva (Gene) Holm and Patsy (J.B.) Sanders, both of Kentucky; special niece, Stephanie (Jim) Finegan; and other nieces, nephews and family members.

Visitation is Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 3047 East Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus. Funeral service will be conducted on Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Pastor Joe Toler will officiate. Interment will be in the Blenden-Central cemetery, Westerville, Ohio.

Alex A. Varney
Alex A. Varney, 81, of Trinity Station, Flatwoods, Kentucky, and longtime resident of Ashland, Kentucky, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at his home at Trinity Station Retirement Community.

Bobby Lee Merritt, 59, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, passed away Monday, September 1, 2003, at James H. Quillen DVAMC, Johnson City, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, 2003, 11 a.m., at Bailey Funeral Home with burial following at the Johnson memorial Park, Pikeville, Kentucky

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
